The digital ecosystem exhibits self-organizing environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution of its ´digital components¡, in which resources provided by each entity are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources mainly comprehend data management, innovative services, computational intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and value-creating. The application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as data management, web technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources. The International Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (EDES) aims to develop and bring together a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. The conference seeks related original research papers, industrial papers and proposals for demonstrations, and tutorials and workshops. Topics ------- We solicit original research and technical papers not published elsewhere. In particular, sensor networks are currently recognized as one of the priority research areas and research activities are booming recently. The workshop scope includes network layer problems like data communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple local node behavior achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes. The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques Topics of Interest ------------------ We are seeking papers that describe original and unpublished contributions addressing various aspects of ad hoc networking. Possible topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Medium access control for ad hoc networks * Analytical, mobility and validation models for ad hoc networks * Hybrid networks and wireless Internet * Security in ad hoc networks * Data management, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks * Unicast routing, multicasting, and broadcasting in ad hoc networks * Geocasting and anycasting in ad hoc networks * Energy-efficient and bandwidth-efficient protocols for ad hoc networks * Quality of service in medium access control and routing * Topology construction and maintenance in ad hoc networks * Neighborhood discovery and mobility management in ad hoc networks * Localized protocols for duty-cycled sensor networks * Auto-configuration and network formation protocols and algorithms * Relative positioning algorithms * Lower bounds on information exchange required for localized solutions * Network graph properties supporting localized protocols * Worst and average case analysis on the deviation from optimal solutions Submissions ----------- Papers must not exceed 6 single-spaced and two-column pages using at least 10 point size type on 8.5 x 11 inches pages. Having the development of low-cost imaging sensors, CMOS cameras, sensitive microphones, PMSN have been proposed and drawn lots of attention from the research community. PMSN are a new and emerging type of sensor network that contains sensor nodes equipped with cameras, microphones, and other sensors producing multimedia content. These networks have the potential to enable a large class of applications ranging from assisting elderly in public spaces to border protection that benefit from the use of numerous sensor nodes that deliver multimedia content, e.g., multimedia surveillance networks, target tracking, environmental monitoring, and traffic management systems. PMSNs require effective harvesting and communication of event features in the form of multimedia such as audio, image, and video. Comparing with traditional wireless sensor networks, a lot of new challenges are faced by PMSNs, e.g., energy efficient multimedia processing and communication, heterogeneous multimedia reliability definitions, tight QoS expectations, and high bandwidth demands. This workshop is intended to provide a forum for presenting, exchanging and discussing the most recent advances in different aspects of pervasive multimedia sensor networks and applications. In particular, this workshop will bring together leading researchers, industry professionals, and research students to study the special problems and challenges of multimedia mobile and wireless environments. Examples of complex networ ks are found in living organisms, in engineering systems, as well as in social networks. Most of the real-world systems have the required degree of complexity to be called "complex systems". Complex may have to do with the intricate dynamics of the interacting components, with the non-trivial properties of the underlying network topology, or with the sheer size of the system itself. Despite the numerous workshops and conferences related to network science, it is still a set of loosely interacting communities. Those communities would benefit from better interactions. Researchers in network science can be categorized according to the theoretical school from which they come, e.g. statistical physics, game theory, information theory, distributed algorithms. Each school tackles a very particular aspect of complex systems, like statistical interactions between components, or the computation of the equilibrium of a particular system. The assumptions made by each school to apply their theoretical tools makes it very difficult for practitioners to apply their results to practical situations. Simplex is expected to trigger the communication networks community to propose the topics that should be tackled from the network science perspective, and let the network community explain how to best use their tools for practical problems of communication networks. Two types of contributions are foreseen from prospective authors. The first type would consist of use-cases of theoretical tools and methods to solve practical problems. Such contributions should be as usable as possible by practitioners in the related field. The second type of contributions would come from practitioners that have identified a problem that may be solved by tools from network sciences. The point of such contributions is to make the network sciences community aware of the importance of a high-impact problem, and to suggest means by which the problem may be solved by the network sciences community. Both contributions should stimulate interaction between theoreticians and practitioners, and also have high potential impact in either field. Topics of interest include (but are not restricted to): - Design of wired/wireless networks - Representing and analyzing dynamic networks - Network robustness to failures and attacks - Mining of large scale networks - Forwarding/routing for opportunistic network - Mobility/connectivity modeling - Anti-spam and Sybil attacks All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression.
