Demos should be standalone: you should not expect any local support, including Internet connectivity. Submissions should be in 2 parts: * A demo abstract, not more than three pages long, describing the demo. This will be published in the workshop proceedings. The submission must be in pdf format and must include the authors names and affiliations. Submissions must also follow the formatting guidelines here. * A demo abstract addendum, not more than two pages long, describing any additional aspects of the demo, including any special requirements for setting up the demo. Call for Papers IEEE Communications Magazine Consumer Communications and Networking Series Recent trends in consumer networking are that consumers are both creators and producers of content (albeit of varying quality!) and peer distribution is the natural model. This is one of the emerging trends that impact how consumers can use devices to create, manipulate, store, and access content — and is surely a much different view compared to only five years ago where most experts still viewed the world in terms of servers and clients, producers and consumers as distinct and separate entities….indeed, there are still dinosaur organizations out there today who are fighting a rearguard action to protect their dwindling revenue streams because they haven’t been brave enough to embrace this new model. Trends like this are ones that papers for the consumer communications and networking series should address. We have also seen the technological reach of existing solutions being applied in unconventional ways where all aspects of our digital lives are being consumed to provide novel platforms where interoperation between disparate technologies is now possible. For example, the automotive industry is now producing cars that include ad hoc networks designed to provide multimedia solutions as well as links to wide area communications via satellite networks. Using these networking capabilities and interfaces such as USB we see automobile functionality being extended. In this sense the boundaries between the car and conventional consumer devices are beginning to blur. Perhaps the sole technology responsible for the many technological advances we see today is communications. Example communications technologies include the emergence of 3G and 4G, LTE and WiMax, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Ultrawideband, TV-band, and Powerline and Free space optical. Applications of these technologies include personal and body area networking, home networking, game networking, ad-hoc networking, and sensor networking. These networks may be connected through networking layers that are cognitive, peer-to-peer enabled, and have the properties of self organisation and management. These networks will become key enablers where we are already seeing ubiquitous content distribution models, for example, television can now be viewed wherever we are and on any devices capable of connecting to one of the many networking paradigms defined above. With these networks we can expect a platform for true innovation where content distribution will overlay these networks using compression, rights management, delivery, and appropriate quality of service mechanisms that can be seamlessly moved over these next generation networks. All of this is made possible by networking, software and middleware that present to the service designer the tools to provide ease of use, security, and stunning interactivity to the end consumer. With this in mind the IEEE Communications Magazine is seeking papers that emphasize consumer networking in whatever physical environment it finds itself. Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSAN) are the confluence point where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSN), robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner. The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field, WSAN are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for current and future applications of WSAN. The purpose of the fourth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments of wireless sensor networks. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 9 or 10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be selected based on originality, technical merit and relevance. Due to our demands for higher data rate and more seamless connectivity, new technologies keep being developed and merchandised, including wireless sensor networks, wireless mesh networks, social networks, smart grid communications, etc. Therefore, many new problems have been proposed and most of which can be formulated as optimization problems. However, many such optimization problems do not have the corresponding good algorithms developed or they are so hard (usually classified as NP-hard) that no algorithm is available to find the optimal solution in polynomial time. Although it may be difficult to find the optimal solutions for these problems, we can still approximate the best solutions with reasonably good ones. When we focus on NP-hard problems and computation time is our concern, approximate algorithms are the good choice. Since the evolutionary computational approaches were developed in the past few decades, many works rely on the nature-inspired algorithms to do optimization. The relatively classical ones are Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Artificial Immune System, Ant Colony Optimization, and Particle Swarm Optimization, etc. Some recently proposed algorithms include Harmony Search, Bee Algorithm, Bacterial Foraging Optimization, Group Search Optimization, Biogeography-based Optimization, Chemical Reaction Optimization, etc. This special issue is focused on highlighting the nature-inspired techniques to solve optimization for designing computer networks. They should demonstrate advantages or improvements in some aspects over the existing methods. The goal is to develop nature-inspired approaches which enhance the adaptability, autonomicity, and scalability of any kinds of computer networks. We also welcome submissions that demonstrate real-world experience in and theoretical works on applying nature-inspired optimization techniques to networking research problems. Wireless access devices already outnumber stationary Internet hosts and an increasing share of traffic traverses at least one wireless link. These trends can be expected to continue in the near future and call for a reexamination of the architectural design of the current and future internets. The current TCP/IP architecture was originally designed for communication between stationary mainframes and servers, and later used for wired PCs. While Mobile IP and the IPv6 mobility extensions have sought to evolve the current architecture to provide support for connections under device mobility, their adoption has lagged behind expectations. This lack of adoption and additional challenges posed by mobility have led to renewed interest in a clean-slate design that comprehensively addresses mobility, free of existing architectural constraints. A clean-slate design requires rethinking current architectural foundations like the end-to-end principle as well as associated Internet business models. It requires addressing issues such as efficient mobility management and optimization, locator-identifier split, multi-homing, security, transport over wireless access and related operational/deployment concerns. Moreover, the architecture will also need to include new services to meet the changed needs of the majority of mobile applications. MobiArch 2010 welcomes submissions from both researchers and practitioners that explore challenges or advances in architectures, protocols, and technologies to address mobility in the current Internet or in future clean-slate Internets. We especially welcome position papers that describe highly original ideas, discuss new directions, or generate insightful discussion at the workshop. Topics of MobiArch 2010 cover all aspects of architectural issues and system support for mobility in the Internet, including but not limited to: * Impact of new wireless technologies/services, networking technologies, and mobility patterns on the Internet architecture * Architectures and protocols for mobility support in the Internet, ranging from link to application layers or cross-layer design solutions * Addressing and routing issues (e.g., locator/identifier split, content routing, multi-homing) * Location management, representation of geolocation, and support for location-aware application and protocols * Security and privacy issues in mobile networks and impact on Internet architecture * Role of network virtualization in mobile Internet architecture * Economic, regulation, and deployment issues of mobility solutions (infrastructure and devices) Submissions must present original results.
