CALL FOR PAPERS
3rd International Workshop on Dependable Network Computing and Mobile
Systems (DNCMS 2010), in conjunction with the 28th IEEE International
Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS 2010)
Scope:
The strong growth in mobile devices, networked embedded systems and
wireless sensors provides a flexible and cheap infrastructure for
collecting and monitoring real-world data nearly everywhere. This is
complemented by the ever increasing information and computing power
offered by computing clusters and information services over stationary
networks The integration of network computing and mobile systems presents
new challenges especially with respect to the dependability of integrated
applications: accepted measures of availability, costs, and quality of
service for high-bandwidth, high-quality stationary systems have to be
re-thought facing possibly new dependability paradigms for cheap, resource
restricted, unreliable mobile systems with low-bandwidth communication
facilities, being embedded and subject to the conditions in the physical
world.
Topics:
This workshop solicits papers addressing dependability issues related to
the design, analysis, and implementation, of infrastructures, systems,
architectures, algorithms and protocols that deal with network computing
and mobile/ubiquitous systems. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Wireless communication protocols and mobile networks
Sensor networks
Architectures and middleware for mobile device integration
Location-based computing and data analysis
Intelligent sensors in networked environments
Cluster computing, ubiquitous computing
Grid-Computing for mobile applications
Distributed data mining for mobile applications
Ubiquitous Knowledge Discovery
Applications such as cooperative mobile robots, embedded
applications, ...
Hardware security methods for mobile applications
Security methods for network computing and mobile systems
Intelligent mobile systems
Important Dates:
Submission due: July 20, 2010
Decision due: August 10, 2010
Camera-ready due: August 31, 2010
Workshop date: Oct. 31, 2010
Papers submission:
Papers submission should be made through EasyChair. You must first create

CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of wireless networks, realistic
models
and credible simulation scenarios are crucial. Recently, in the area of
wireless
networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility,
traffic, and
signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to
provide
more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and
then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We
solicit
papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various
wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers
on trace
measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless
networks are
also welcome.
The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research
interests and
activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at
increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers
working in
this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related,
theoretical, and
work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement
traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modelling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling
* Combined mobility and traffic modelling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modelling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modelling on performance
Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for
presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 6 camera-ready pages
in IEEE
conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously
unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or
journal.
All submissions will be handled via EDAS: http://edas.info/N9078
For detailed submission instructions, together with format files, see
the MASS
2010 website: https://mass2010.soe.ucsc.edu/

Fifth IEEE International Workshop on
Personalized Networks (PerNets)
http://pernets.irctr.tudelft.nl/
to be held in conjunction with the
IEEE Consumer Communications and
Networking Conference (CCNC 2011)
January 8-11, 2011 -
Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Accepted papers will be published in the
conference proceedings and the IEEE Digital Library
**************************************************************************************************************
Purpose of this workshop
The ubiquitous nature of wireless networks has
spawned many interesting applications that were
unimagined hitherto. It has also brought many
challenges for the communication and networking
community to address. On one hand we see present
day mobile devices are capable of providing many
services that required several devices before.
For example, most cell phones nowadays provide
high speed data access, still and video cameras,
PDA functionality, etc. These advances in device
sophistication and service offerings, including
wireless hotspots, have made a difference in the
way we communicate. With increased user mobility
and user's desire to always be connected, we have
seen a growing interest in Personal Area Networks
(PANs) and Body Area Networks (BANs). These
networks can be tuned and applied meaningfully
for individual users and their requirements. On
the other hand the Internet has changed our way
of interacting dramatically. These two major
communication areas are having an in-depth
influence on the way we communicate; it is worth
considering them 'together' as the future communication vehicle.
Personalized Networks is one such future oriented
concept where we seek to bring BANs, PANs, WLAN,
sensor networks, ad hoc networks, home networks,
vehicular networks and the Internet together onto
one platform under one broader vision of future
(4G) communication networks and the Internet of
Your Things. The idea is to enable continuous and
seamless connectivity of all the personal devices
of a user, information sources, and network
enabled controllers in an unobtrusive way,
regardless of where these entities are located -
be they local or remote. It is a microcosm of the
persons themselves with their associated
accessories somewhere on the Internet. It is
equivalent to the Internet presence that has
become a prominent concept in the last decade.
This advanced overlay network is strongly person
oriented and must be ad hoc, intelligent and must
behave as a user-friendly virtual intelligent
personal assistant to its owner. It is a personal
distributed environment, global in scope that can
co-exist on the present day Internet with its
active participation. Such a platform enables
many new applications, especially for users with
rapidly changing communication demands that often
operate in various contexts simultaneously. It
can also provide the much needed user-friendliness to many services of
today.
There are numerous issues which are challenging
to the communication network community in
realizing a Personalized Network. Most of them
arise from the lack of current technology to deal
in a transparent way with the dynamic and mobile
nature of the entities, the unpredictable
topology of the network, the power constraints of
the mobile devices, and the heterogeneity of the
networking and link-level technologies.
Therefore, creating a Personalized Network yields
new architectures, protocols, algorithms,
platforms, middleware, etc. They take care of
addressing, routing, resource and service
discovery, the self-organization of the network,
the localization of the devices/person, the
complex security and privacy requirements, the
offering of context aware services and service
management. Many of these issues, ventured upon
earlier under various mobile ad hoc networks
(MANET) and mobile network research initiatives,
need to be reconsidered in this case. These
technologies have to meet strict requirements
with respect to user perception, viable business
models, usage of communication bandwidth,
protocol complexity, robustness, availability of
links and infrastructure, dependability and trust.
Scope of the submission
We seek original contributions which are aimed at
finding solutions to the problems that are
outlined above towards realization of a
Personalized Network. We have identified the
following major topics under which we try to
categorize the submissions. However, we will
consider any other original, interesting, and
imaginative ideas and thoughts towards meeting
this goal of a Personalized Network.

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
"Game Theory in Wireless Communications"
Wireless communication networks are undergoing a transformation, shifting
network intelligence from the core network towards the edges of the network.
Correspondingly, the process of decision making in wireless networks is
migrating towards more distributed approaches. This calls for adoption of
novel analytical approaches to capture the new degrees of freedom available
for decision making processes in future communication technologies, fitting
examples of which include femto-base-stations in beyond-3G systems and
Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs).
Game theory provides a powerful mathematical framework that can accommodate
the preferences and requirements of various stakeholders in a given process
as regards the outcome of the process. The application of game theory to the
modeling and analysis of wireless networks has received considerable
attention in recent years. Game theoretic approaches are multifarious,
including among others cooperative and non-cooperative models, static and
dynamic games, single-shot and repeated games, and finite- and
infinite-horizon games.
This special issue aims to bring together a comprehensive view of the
application of game theoretic models to emerging wireless systems. We
specially encourage studies that demonstrate the capabilities of game theory
in wireless communication when other techniques have failed to produce
insight, when complex wireless scenarios have helped advance game-theoretic
models, and alternatively when limitations of game theory in practical
wireless networks are captured. Hence, original previously un-published
contributions are solicited in relevant topics, including but not limited to
the following:
* Game theoretic approaches to the design of PHY and MAC layers in
future cellular and broadband technologies
* Game models for cognitive radio and self-organizing networks
* Application of novel solution concepts such as equilibrium or core
solutions in wireless scenarios
* Wireless network analysis using dynamic, stochastic, super-modular
and sub-modular games
* Coalition formation and other cooperative strategies for wireless
radio networks
* Evolutionary game theory for wireless networks
* Radio resource allocation and interference management
* Distributed load balancing, congestion control policies and routing
protocols based on game theory
* Mechanism design in auctions and other wireless applications
* Reinforcement and Q-learning for various wireless network
equilibria, such as the correlated equilibrium
* Analysis of security and privacy in wireless application via game
theory
* Utilization of imperfect/asymmetric information game models in
wireless communications
* Multi-armed and restless bandit problems and their application in
modeling wireless networks
Prospective authors should follow the manuscript format described in the
"Information for Authors" section on the IEEE J-SAC website
(http://www.jsac.ucsd.edu/Guidelines/info.html ). All papers should be
submitted in PDF format via EDAS (http://edas.info <http://edas.info/> ).

************* Paper submission deadline: July 9, 2010 **************
The recent advances in wireless communications and networking have
motivated the use of these technologies in environments where no
computer has gone before. More specifically, the ubiquitous data
gathering, computation, and communication capabilities of tiny sensors
motes, microprocessors, and mobile communication devices have recently
been exploited in places such as underground mines, tunnels, and soil;
underwater environments such as oceans and rivers; the outer space; and
locations affected by natural disasters. Wireless communication in these
challenged environments is characterized by the direct impact of the
physical world environment on the communication and networking
performance. Accordingly, the traditional definitions of communication
channel, connectivity, network topology, packet route, or message
delivery may no longer hold true. To provide the required guarantees for
applications in these environments, a fundamental understanding of the
environmental impacts on communication as well as the physical layer
affects on higher layer protocols is required. Moreover, cross-layer
solutions that address the challenges in these environments by
incorporating the interactions between the environment and communication
performance are beneficial. Consequently, environment-aware solutions
that adapt to the changes in their environment can be realized.
This special issue is dedicated to recent advances in communication and
networking in challenged environments. Papers describing applications,
protocols, analysis models, evaluation methods, and experimental studies
are solicited.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Network architectures
- Analysis models
- Channel models
- Resiliency, reliability, and robustness
- Communication protocols (transport, routing, MAC, error control, security)
- Cross-layer design and optimization
- Localization solutions
- Deployment scenarios and experiences
in Challenged Environments including:
- Underground (Mines, tunnels, and soil)
- Underwater
- Space
- Disaster areas
- Urban areas

Call for Papers: The Fourth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks
===============================================================
16-17 December, 2010
Colombo, Sri Lanka
http://www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk/realwsn10/
We are excited to announce that the fourth Workshop on Real-World
Wireless Sensor will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in December 2010.
The purpose of the fourth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor
Networks is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in
the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or
deployments of wireless sensor networks.
When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new
issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of
different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network
structures; software development for large scale networks poses new
types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from
the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a
complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore,
results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable
to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community
to produce results from experimental research.
Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 9 or
10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be
selected based on originality, technical merit and relevance.
Note that we will organize a poster and demo session as well.
The deadline will be in the middle of September.
All topics pertaining to real-world wireless sensor networks are of
interest, including but not limited to:
* Experiences with real-world deployments
* Experimental validation/refutation of previous simulation
results obtained by others
* Real-world performance of self-organization and self-management

MEASUREMENT OF INTERNET TOPOLOGIES
----------------------------------
Call For Papers
---------------
The Internet is a complex but highly engineered system which has been
built for years in a mostly distributed fashion, with little or no
central authority. Even though a number of architectural principles
underlying its design and evolution are known, our understanding of
its global structure and dynamics at the different layers and of the
nature of exchanges or communication over this structure has remained
very limited.
Many important features of this global structure can be studied by
examining the various graphs (sets of nodes and links between them)
that arise in the Internet at the different layers, each representing
different aspects of Internet connectivity. This is true for instance
for the physical connectivity, the IP-level connectivity, or the
relationships between Autonomous Systems (ASes). The same holds true
for the exchange or communication graphs (which nodes send information
to which other nodes) at the various layers (e.g., packets, flows,
files, email), and for overlay graphs induced by, for example, P2P
systems, web services, or online social networks.
Unfortunately, in practice these Internet-specific graph structures
are not readily available and obtaining them from empirical
observations typically requires costly special-purpose measurement
infrastructures and experiments. The resulting data often reflect
more what can be measured than what ought to be measured. As a
result, the obtained information is typically incomplete, inaccurate,
and biased. While some progress has been made to this regard in the
last 10 years, much remains to be done.
The goal of this special issue is to publish a collection of
high-quality papers in the area of measurement of Internet topologies.
We expect these papers to become key references in the field by
(i) clearly articulating the limitations of the proposed measurement
techniques or tools,
(ii) detailing the resulting data quality issues,
(iii) addressing ways to overcome some of the limitations, and
(iv) highlighting for which purposes the obtained data can and cannot
be used.
The scope is broad and aims to cover all relevant aspects of the
problem, but topics of special interest include:
. new measurement strategies and tools, including novel and original
approaches;
. measurements at various layers, physical to applications;
. measurements of related objects, e.g., routing trees, spreadings of
files, or load-balancers;
. inference of properties from measurements, and inference-oriented
measurements;
. modeling and analysis for measurements, including assessement of
observed properties;
. analysis of maps at any level, with special attention to measurement
issues;
. applications, including modeling of internet topologies and
identification of key needs.
