CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of wireless networks, realistic
models
and credible simulation scenarios are crucial. Recently, in the area of
wireless
networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility,
traffic, and
signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to
provide
more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and
then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We
solicit
papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various
wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers
on trace
measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless
networks are
also welcome.
The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research
interests and
activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at
increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers
working in
this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related,
theoretical, and
work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement
traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modelling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling
* Combined mobility and traffic modelling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modelling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modelling on performance
Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for
presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 6 camera-ready pages
in IEEE
conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously
unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or
journal.
All submissions will be handled via EDAS: http://edas.info/N9078
For detailed submission instructions, together with format files, see
the MASS
2010 website: https://mass2010.soe.ucsc.edu/
IMPORTANT DATES:
Paper submission deadline: June 18, 2010

Call for Papers
Elsevier Journal of Pervasive and Mobile Computing - Special Issue on
"Vehicular Sensor Networks and Mobile Sensing
over Wide-Scale Deployment Environments"
www.elsevier.com/locate/pmc
Paper submission deadline: October 30, 2010
**************************************************************************************
The development of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and
Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) based Vehicular
Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is one of the most
interesting and active research area nowadays,
which is attracting significant efforts from both
the industry and the academia, not only from the
automotive and Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITSs) communities, but also from the fields of
wireless and mobile sensor networks, smart
environments, and mobile collaborative
applications in general. In this context, many
national and international collaboration projects
currently ongoing practically demonstrate the
relevant government, industry, and academia interest in the field.
In particular, Vehicular Sensor Networks (VSNs)
are becoming increasingly interesting and popular
due to recent advances in inter-vehicular
communication technologies and decreasing cost of
communication devices. Differently from
traditional wireless sensor nodes, vehicles are
not typically affected by energy constraints and
can easily be equipped with powerful processing
units, wireless communication devices, GPS, and
sensing devices such as chemical detectors,
still/video cameras, vibration and acoustic
sensors. Thus, they enable brand new and
promising sensing applications, such as traffic
reporting, relief to environmental monitoring,
distributed surveillance, only to mention a few
promising (and not the most visionary) service provisioning scenarios.
The design, implementation, and deployment of
dynamic, opportunistic, collaborative, scalable,
efficient, reliable, robust, and secured mobile
sensing applications for VSNs, especially over
realistic and large-scale deployment environments
such as municipalities, presents extraordinary
challenges to the pervasive and mobile computing
research community. This special issue intends to
disseminate the latest research results in this
emergent research area, by providing a fresh
snapshot of the current state-of-the-art in
VANETs, VSNs, and mobile sensing. To this
purpose, we are seeking high-quality papers
reporting original research results and practical
experiences of system
design/prototyping/deployment related to topics
that include, but are not limited to:
- Original algorithms and protocols for VSN mobile sensing
- Original middleware and platforms for the support of VSN applications
- Case studies of mobile sensing applications
over wide-scale urban environments
- Vehicular network architectures and protocols for mobile sensing
- Intra-vehicular sensor network and integration
with (possibly legacy) embedded systems
- Efficient integration with wide-area networks
and with municipal mesh networks
- Routing, addressing, and transport-layer issues for mobile sensing
- Efficient QoS support for quality-sensitive mobile sensing applications
- Delay-tolerant and real-time supports for VSN mobile sensing
- Data dissemination solutions for VSN mobile sensing applications
- Performance, scalability, reliability, and
efficiency of VSN supports and applications
- Safety, enhanced navigation, and car alert supports/services
- Vehicular collision avoidance using distributed sensing technologies
- Human-machine interface for VSN mobile sensing applications
- Mobility models and vehicle traffic models
- Simulation aspects of V2V, V2I, and VSNs
- Emulation and testbeds for large-scale VSNs
- Practical experience with standards (802.11p,
CALM, P1609,
), standard development and evolution
- Security, encryption, and privacy for VSNs
Submission process:
Authors should prepare and submit manuscripts
according to the Guide for Authors as published
in the Journal Web site at
http://www.ees.elsevier.com/pmc/. Manuscripts
must not have been previously published or
currently under consideration for publication
elsewhere. If a similar version of the paper has
been published in a conference, the submitted
version should contain significant
additions/enhancements; in that case, authors are
requested to submit their published conference
articles and a summary document explaining the
enhancements made in the journal version.
Important Dates:

Extended versions of High quality papers will be considered for
publication in the Elsevier Journal of Network and Computer Applications
---call for paper---
The traditional centralized wireless and mobile networks are mainly
based on single-hop architecture and rely on fixed infrastructure such
as base stations or access points. The proliferation and deployment of
radio access networks such as Wireless WANs, Wireless LANs, Wireless
PANs, ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor networks with distinguishing
characteristics of data rate, coverage range, power, mobility, and
prices will clearly lead to a need for seamless and ubiquitous access
across these various networks. Such an integrated heterogeneous
environment enables a user to access a particular network depending upon
the application needs and the types of radio access networks (RANs)
available. The heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile networks, on
the other hand, provide unlimited mobility and greater flexibility but
introduce a number of challenges due to dynamic network topology. The
design of efficient and scalable protocols for existing multi-hop
wireless and mobile networks such as wireless and mobile ad hoc networks
continue to pose challenges at all the layers of networking stack.
Therefore, it is necessary to aim at heterogeneous architectures and
services that together provide seamless integration of single-hop as
well as multi-hop mobile ad hoc networks.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together the research community in
order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the
latest research and future research directions in heterogeneous
multi-hop wireless and mobile networks. We are seeking original and
previously unpublished research papers addressing theoretical and
application issues in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless mobile networks.
Scope
Topics related to heterogeneous, multi-hop, wireless and mobile networks
in the areas of:
* Multi-hop architectures and protocols for resource management
* Quality of services (QoS) delivery
* Seamless Mobility
* Robust and scalable routing protocols
* MAC protocols supporting mobility and vertical handover
* Self-configuration and synchronization
* Security
* Topology control and management
* Mobility models and location management
* Cross-layer design and interactions
* Modeling and performance evaluation
* Algorithms for localization and signal processing
* Implementation testbeds
* Operating systems and middleware
Organisers
* Waltenegus Dargie, Technical University of Dresden, Germany
* Anup Kumar, University of Louisville, USA
Important Dates
* Submission due: July 2, 2010 (Friday)

International Workshop on Sensing for App Phones (PhoneSense)
http://sensorlab.cs.dartmouth.edu/phonesense/
Collocated with SenSys, Zurich, Switzerland - November 2, 2010
App phones are enabling the delivery of personalized sensing
applications across a wide variety of users and to very large geo
distributions. A number of recent developments give momentum to this
new field of research, including: the proliferation of embedded
sensors in open programmable smartphones; the ease at which
researchers and developers can distribute new applications using
vendor specific "app store" delivery channels (e.g., Apple AppStore,
Android Market, Microsoft Mobile Marketpace, Nokia Ovi); and, finally,
the emergence of the mobile computing cloud. The combination of three
drivers is creating new opportunities in mobile phone sensing not seen
before. Emerging applications on apps phones and cloud can sense,
mine, and learn human behaviors and intentions to provide personalized
feedback and persuasion. Example application domains include mobile
advertisement, social networking, healthcare, entertainment,
education, safety and business.
PhoneSense promotes exchanges among academic and industrial
researchers in related areas, such as sensing, mobile computing, data
management, data mining, machine learning, inference, incentive
modeling, persuasion feedback, user experience with app delivery
channels for large-scale deployment, and privacy. The foci are on
position papers, novel ideas, and in-progress work on system
architecture, enabling technologies, and emerging applications.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-Applications
-Sensing and machine learning techniques
-Experience with app store delivery systems and large scale deployment
-Mobile cloud and sensing Interface and interaction between phones and
humans
-Mining big sensor data
-Persuasion models and techniques to close the loop with users
-Privacy and sensor data
-Participatory and opportunistic sensing paradigms
-Activity recognition and subjective sensing

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of Elsevier Computer Communications Journal
"Specialized Routing and Node Placement Protocols for Emerging Wireless Ad
Hoc Networks"
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/comcom
------------------------------------------------------------
With the increasing availability of various wireless devices such as
sensors, cameras, actuators, routers, etc., there has been a recent trend
towards the design and implementation of special wireless ad hoc networks
such as Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
(WMSNs), Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UWSNs), Vehicular ad hoc
Networks (VANETs), Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) and Wireless
Underground Networks (WUNs). Inspired from traditionally well studied
mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), these
networks deploy specialized heterogeneous wireless nodes and are expected
to be used in many real-life applications involving inter-disciplinary
research.
In addition to the challenges inherent to MANETs and WSNs, these emerging
wireless ad hoc networks introduce new challenges at all layers of
protocol stack including new forms of wireless communication (e.g.,
multi-channel, acoustic, underground communication), new mobility models
(e.g., vehicle, underwater, actuator mobility), quality of service (QoS)
(e.g., bandwidth, delay and reliability guarantees) and new node placement
and self-organization techniques (e.g., cameras, mesh router, and actuator
placement). Published solutions for MANETs and WSNs cannot be directly
applied to aforementioned wireless ad hoc networks due to their special
characteristics and constraints.
This special issue will be dedicated to current state of the art routing
and node placement protocols in newly emerged wireless ad hoc networks
such as WMNs, VANETs, UWSNs, WMSNs, WUNs, etc. Papers describing
architectures, protocols, evaluation methods, and experimental studies are
solicited in the following topics of interest (not limited to):
Routing in multi-radio and multi-channel ad hoc networks
QoS Routing in WMNs, UWSNs, VANETs and WMSNs
Network deployment, localization, and synchronization protocols
Joint routing, scheduling, and channel assignment protocols
Routing and security trade-offs
Cross-layer optimization
Node deployment in WMNs, WMSNs, UWSNs and WUNs
Routing performance under various node deployment schemes
Mobility modeling in UWSNs and VANETs
Test-bed, prototype, and practical systems
