ACM MobiOpp 2012
Third International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networks
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/conference/mobiopp2012/
sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
March 15-16, 2012
ETH Zürich, Switzerland
After the successful ACM MobiOpp 2007 and ACM MobiOpp 2010, the
organizing committee is excited to invite you to take part in the
Third International Workshop on Mobile Opportunistic Networks that
will be held March 15-16th, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland at ETH.
Opportunistic Networking is one of the emerging communication
paradigms in wireless mobile communications. Opportunistic networks
are commonly defined as a type of networks where communication is
challenged by sporadic and intermittent contacts as well as frequent
disconnections and reconnections, and where the assumption of the
existence of an end-to-end path between the source and the destination
is relinquished. The aim of MobiOpp 2012 is to provide a high profile,
leading edge forum for researchers and engineers to present their
latest research in the field of mobile opportunistic networking. In
particular, MobiOpp 2012 strongly encourages submissions of
experimental work.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Opportunistic, Delay-tolerant and Hybrid Networks
- Mobile Urban Sensing and Crowdsensing
- Novel Architectures, Middleware, Prototypes and Testbeds
- Routing, Dissemination and Caching in Opportunistic Networks
- Analysis of Opportunistic Protocols
- Security, Trust, Privacy and Cooperation in Opportunistic Networks
- Social-aware Opportunistic Networking
- Anti-censorship/surveillance opportunistic communications
- Opportunistic Applications (e.g., opportunistic social networking,
disaster and emergency situations, healthcare, communication
in remote regions)
- Mobility models for opportunistic networks
Submitted papers should be novel and should not be currently under
review, whether in shorter, longer, or the same form. We accept paper
submissions of **8 pages** and demo and poster abstracts of 2 pages at
http://edas.info/N11119
. Further formatting requirements are available on the website. The
workshop proceedings will be published by ACM.
MobiOpp 2012 is also featured on social networks. Follow us and get

Call for Papers: Special Issue on "Management of Cloud Systems" - Elsevier FGCS
by Mario Fanelli 20 Sep '11
by Mario Fanelli 20 Sep '11
20 Sep '11
(Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message)
C A L L F O R P A P E R S
=============================
Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS)
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/future
Special Issue on "Management of Cloud Systems"
The vision of Cloud computing is becoming a reality because of the
recent
advances in several significant computer and communications research
areas,
spanning from grid/virtualization/utility computing to Web 2.0 and
Service
Oriented Computing (SOC). At the current stage, after the initial hype
of
enthusiasm, several ongoing research efforts are deeply focusing on
the
open management aspects of the Cloud, such as interoperability,
scalability,
reliability, power management, and confidentiality/auditability, with
the
final goal to make Cloud technologies and services more mature so to
enable
and boost a more widespread industrial uptake of Cloud systems.
Despite
several recent provisioning of Cloud systems, it is still unclear
whether
current solutions can withstand the abrupt and unpredictably changes
imposed
by the emergent Cloud application scenarios, where services
de/activation
and the whole software stacks (from the kernel upward) have to scale up
and
down fast by exploiting highly distributed and heterogeneous
virtualized
resources.
The mission of this Special Issue is to put on the foreground all the
above
issues and to disseminate the latest research result in this
emergent
research area, by providing a fresh snapshot of the current
state-of-the-art
in management of Cloud systems. Along that direction, this special issue
will
collect a mix of extended and updated versions of papers recently
presented
at the international Workshop on Management of Cloud Systems (MoCS 2011),
and
of other papers submitted from this open call. In particular, all the
authors
of papers accepted for inclusion in the MoCS11 proceedings are invited
to
submit extended versions of their workshop papers; in addition, we are
asking
for high-quality papers (from open call) reporting original research
results.
Contributions should present practical experiences of system
design/prototy-
ping/deployment related to topics that include, but are not limited to:
* Novel adaptive management solutions for scalable, maintainable,
cost-
effective Cloud provision, at all software stack layers;
* New methods and tools able to identify and enforce optimal
trade-offs
between performance, energy consumption, safety, and security;
* New models and paradigms for the management of Cloud services at the
host
level and within/between data centers (intra-/inter-domain);
* Emerging standards for interoperability (resource
virtualization,
specific computing interfaces, etc.), also between public and
private
Clouds;
* Experimentation testbeds, field trials and empirical evaluations,
and
measurement studies;
* Analytical and simulation models and tools to measure systems ability
to
scale and to achieve relevant energy savings.
Submission process:
Authors should prepare and submit manuscripts according to the Guide
for
Authors as published in the Journal Web site at:
http://www.elsevier.com/wps/
find/journaldescription.cws_home/505611/authorinstructions
Manuscripts must not have been previously published or currently
under
consideration for publication elsewhere. If a similar version of the
paper
has been published in a conference, including MoCS11, the submitted
version
should contain significant additions/enhancements; in that case, authors
are
requested to submit their published conference articles and a
summary
document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version.
Potential authors are encouraged to submit original and unpublished
work
through the submission system at the journal website:
http://ees.elsevier.com
/fgcs/.
Please choose the Article Type SS: Cloud Systems Corradi/Rana. If
you
encounter any problems in the use of the online system, please do
not
hesitate to contact authorsupport(a)elsevier.com.
Important Dates (to be confirmed):
* Paper submission deadline: October 30, 2011
* First revision notification to authors: December 15, 2011
* Revision submission: January 15, 2012
* Second revision notification to authors: February 15, 2012
* Submission of camera-ready versions of accepted manuscripts: March 15,
2012
* Special issue publication schedule (tentative): 3rd Quarter 2012
Guest Editors of the Special Issue:
* Antonio Corradi, University of Bologna, Italy, antonio.corradi(a)unibo.it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
June 26th - 29th, 2012
Low Wood Bay, The Lake District, UK
http://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2012/
MobiSys 2012 will continue the tradition of publishing top-notch
research papers dealing with
all aspects of mobile systems. MobiSys seeks original papers that take a
broad systems perspective
rather than focus narrowly on low-level components. The conference
values results and insights
obtained from working implementations more highly than those obtained
solely from simulations.
If you have any questions regarding relevance or other
submission-related issues, please contact
the program chairs at mobisys_pcchairs(a)acm.org
<mailto:mobisys_pcchairs@acm.org>
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Experience with mobile applications, networks and systems
• Innovative mobile and mobile sensing applications
• Tools for building and measuring mobile systems
• Software architectures for mobile devices
• Infrastructure support for node mobility
• System-level energy management for mobile devices
• Data management for mobile applications
• Operating systems for mobile devices
• Support for mobile social networking and mobile Web

• Systems for location and context sensing and awareness
• Mobile computing support for pervasive computing
• Vehicular wireless systems
• User interfaces and usability for mobile applications and systems
• Personal-area networks and systems
• Cyber foraging and resource discovery for mobile systems
Papers on work that is currently under review, whether in shorter,
longer, or the same form, must not
be submitted to MobiSys. Submission of a longer version of a published,
not just accepted, workshop
paper is encouraged if it includes significant new contributions.
However, the authors must cite their
workshop paper. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms are
not acceptable and
will be returned to the author(s) unread. As is customary with the
scientific peer review process,
submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review
process.
***Selected outstanding papers may be fast-tracked as a special section
of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.***
Submissions should be full papers, up to 14 single-spaced 8.5" x 11"
pages, including figures,
tables, and references, in two-column format, using 10-point type on
12-point and single-spaced.
Papers may use the standard ACM template, available at:
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2009/sig-alternate-10pt.cls.
The first page of each paper should include the names and affiliations
of the authors, i.e., the
submissions should not be anonymous. Submissions will be judged on
originality, significance,
interest, clarity, relevance, and technical correctness. Papers may be
conditionally accepted
and shepherded by a member of the program committee, with final
acceptance determined by
consent of the shepherd.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 13th Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing
Systems and Applications (HotMobile 2012)
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
February, 2012
San Diego, CA, USA
http://www.hotmobile.org/2012/
ACM HotMobile 2012, the Thirteenth International Workshop on Mobile
Computing
Systems and Applications continues the series of highly selective,
interactive
workshops focused on mobile applications, systems, and environments, as
well as
their underlying state-of-the-art technologies. HotMobile's small
workshop format
makes it ideal for presenting and discussing new directions or
controversial
approaches.
We solicit submissions of position papers that focus primarily on
applications and
systems and that propose new directions of research, advocate
non-traditional
approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy and
discussion. We
particularly look for position papers containing highly original ideas
in the following
topic areas, although papers describing other challenges unique to or
exacerbated
by mobility are also welcome:
• Operating system and distributed system support for mobile computing
• Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices
• Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility
• HCI issues related to mobile computing
• Security and privacy of mobile computing
• Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility
Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they
focus on
how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application.
HotMobile 2012 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will
be judged
based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and
likelihood of leading
to insightful discussion at the workshop. Presentation at HotMobile is a
good way
to get early feedback on research ideas that are a year or more from
submission
as a full conference paper to the ACM MobiSys conference or other
high-quality
conferences. Submitting a full-length paper on the same topic to MobiSys
in less
than a year is unlikely to involve a sufficient increment of work and
maturity of ideas.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may
not be
simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by
nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to
the
author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process,
submissions
will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format,
including
all references, figures and tables. Papers should use the standard ACM
template,
available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
For more submission guidelines, please visit the conference website.
