CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop Goals
The Second International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Networking Systems(CPNS
2012) is a forum
to bring together people from academia and industry to explore research
issues and challenges
related to Cyber-Physical Networking Systems (CPNSs) and discuss innovative
ideas and promising
cutting-edge solutions (methodologies, techniques and approaches) on
diverse CPNS-related topics.
This forum aims to help researchers from academia and industry understand
the broad, novel scope
of CPNSs and grasp new thinking, challenges, and approaches underlying the
issues, technologies,
and solutions exchanged from mutual communities.
The topics of interest for CPNS 2012 include, but not limited to, the
following:
* Theoretical foundations of CPNSs
* Modeling and analysis of CPNSs
* System-level designs and implementations of CPNSs
* Evaluation approaches and metrics
* Control issues in CPNS
* Real-time services and QoS support in CPNSs
* Wireless sensor networking in CPNSs
* Mobile and participatory sensing
* Internet of things in CPNSs
* High-performance computing with CPNSs
* Cloud computing with CPNSs
* Security and privacy issues in CPNSs
* Safety, fault tolerance, and robustness of CPNSs
* Intelligent sensing and processing in CPNs
* Networking issues in emerging CPNS applications including healthcare,
transportation, automation,
the environment, smart grid and so on.
Submission Guidelines
CPNS 2012 will consider original papers not previously published or under
review by other journals or conferences.
All submissions will be peer reviewed and evaluated according to their
originality, significance, correctness,
presentation, and relevance. The URL link for CPNS 2012 paper submission

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology
Special Section: Graph Theory and Its Application in Vehicular Networking
_____________________________________________
The last two decades have witnessed unprecedented growth in telecommunications, particularly in the area of wireless communications. This development in telecommunications opens doors to many sophisticated complex systems, e.g. social networks, smart grids, vehicular networks and sensor networks, that previously were not feasible. Graph theory is among the most widely used tools for modeling and analyzing the many types of interactions, relations and dynamics in these systems. Many problems of practical interest can be represented by graphs.
The use of graph theory in vehicular networks, or more broadly highly dynamic networks, is of particular interest. The complex interactions among vehicles, between vehicles and road-side infrastructure, combined with the high mobility of vehicles and fast changing topology, present some unique challenges in network modeling and performance analysis, network design, resource management and communication protocol design.
This special section aims to provide recent advances in graph theory that are applicable to highly dynamic networks, particularly vehicular networks, identify challenges in the area and present possible solutions, and furthermore to unveil the significant potential of graph theory in the domain of vehicular networks. Topics of interest for this special section include, but are not limited to:
* Vehicular network modeling and performance analysis;
* Network architecture design;
* Vehicular technologies for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure networking & services;
* End-to-end service delivery architectures, algorithms, protocols and scalability;
* Cooperative communications;
* Quality of service;
* Resource management;
* Robust network and communication protocol design;
* Interference characterization and management;
* Localization techniques;
* Road traffic management.
Authors should follow the IEEE TVT manuscript format and submission procedure which can be found at the IEEE TVT home page http://transactions.vtsociety.org under Information for Authors.

SUMMARY
=======
ICWCUCA 2012 (International Conference on Wireless Communications in
Unusual and Confined Areas) is the third of a series of events focusing
on wireless communications in harsh environments (such as confined
areas, underground tunnels, inside industrial buildings or vehicles).
ICWCUCA is a forum for academic researchers, professionals and
industrial specialists that are interested in innovative applications or
field trials related to telecommunications in such confined areas.
ICWCUCA was originally dedicated to wireless communications in confined
environments for industrial mining applications. This year, the
conference addresses a broader spectrum including unusual environments,
wireless sensor network applications, and wireless network applications.
An unusual environment refers to an environment that can be hazardous,
costly or hard to reach. Such an environment can have experienced a
natural or industrial disaster, or can be a remote natural area. It is
subject to specific propagation conditions (as it is the case in mine
galleries or inside the human body). In these conditions, network
solutions have to be self-powered, robust against node losses, deployed
quickly, and they have to provide a service during a long period
(usually expressed in years). Thus, research on wireless sensor networks
is a topic for ICWCUCA. Communication protocols that have limited energy
consumption, that are resistant to losses and that can satisfy the
application temporal constraints, on a peculiar physical medium, are the
main expected contributions.
SCOPE
=====
This year, the topics include, but are not limited to:
- Propagation and Medium Characterization,
- Modulation and Signal,
- Antenna,
- Wireless Sensor Network,
- Communications for Mine Applications,
- Applications of WLAN and WPAN,
- Modeling, Simulation, Tests,
- Intra-Vehicular and Inter-Vehicular Communications,
- Communications between Life-Monitoring Devices.

Dear Colleagues,
you are cordially invited to contribute to the following call for paper.Should you require further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,Juha, Waltenegus, and Vincenzo.
Advances
in Software Engineering
Special
Issue on
Self-* Parallel
and Distributed Systems
Call
for papers
Autonomic computing has been identified
as a promising solution to cope with the overwhelming complexity in modern and
next-generation computer systems. In particular, the self-* properties
(self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing and self-protection)
outline the fundamental features of an autonomic computing system. Parallel and
distributed systems, a computing domain with great applicability in a variety
of industrial and domestic contexts, rely on self-* software to manage a large
number of heterogeneous computation, communication, and storage resources. The
challenges of energy efficiency, dependability and security are of particular
interest.
This special issue addresses the software
aspects of the whole design and operational process and system architecture of
self-* parallel and distributed systems. We welcome studies on all forms of
software, including application software and system software. The relevant
scope of parallel and distributed systems widely covers, but is not limited to,
embedded systems, large-scale networks, cyber-physical systems (CPS), cloud-computing
etc. The systems under focus should
integrate software with clear and novel self-* features to be qualified for
acceptance. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
· Model-driven
engineering of self-* distributed systems
· Robust
design of self-* parallel and distributed systems
· Software
design and implementation for energy-awareness
· Energy-awareness
in self-organizing systems such as in cluster-based systems and cloud computing
· Real-time
aspects, especially in conjunction with other conflicting design goals
· Evolvability
aspects
· Resilience
of autonomic distributed and parallel systems
· Self-healing
and protection for dependable and secure systems
· Software
for interoperable heterogeneous networked systems
· Specification
and modeling languages for self-* properties
· Formal
validation and verification
· Software
testing
· Parallel
and distributed debugging
· Application
and industrial case studies
· Retrospective,
Review and Future Perspectives

Call for Papers
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas of Communication on Network Science
Over the past several years there has been increasing interest in
studying the
commonalities among multiple networks such as logistical networks,
biological
networks, financial and economic networks, transportation networks,
cognitive
networks, social networks, information networks and communications networks.
Several possible cross-network commonalities have been identified and
there's
an emerging line of research that seeks a theoretical underpinning to these
commonalities. Collectively these efforts are known as "network science".
This J-SAC issue seeks to highlight advances in network science.
Topics of interest for this issue include:
* Insights from other types of networks that can be applied to
communications problems (e.g. applying concepts from biological
networks
to communications networks);
* Aggregate performance of combined networks (e.g. rather than
modeling a
social network and communications network separately, modeling them
as one
combined network);
* Transmission of information through combined networks (including
contagion
or cascade effects);
* Insights into the strengths and limitations of multi-network
studies as
applied to communications networks;
* Communications network design inspired by network science principles
More broadly, the issue welcomes any submission that is clearly
applicable to
communications networks and incorporates insights from non-communications
networks.
Prospective authors should prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the
IEEE J-SAC format described at
http://www.jsac.ucsd.edu/Guidelines/info.html.
Authors should submit a PDF version of their complete manuscript to
http://edas.info/12217. The timetable is as follows:
Manuscript submission: 1 August 2012
Acceptance notification: 15 December 2012*
Final manuscript due: 1 February 2013
Publication: Q2 2013
*The editorial team hopes to make decisions somewhat earlier to permit
some papers to get a second round of reviewing before final submission.
The Guest Editor and Co-Editors for this issue are: Guest Editor: Dr. Craig
Partridge (Raytheon BBN Technologies); Co-Guest Editors: Ananthram Swami
(Army Research Lab), Tom La Porta (Penn State), Richard Gibbens
(University
of Cambridge), Ching-Yung Lin (IBM), Eiko Yoneki (Univ. of Cambridge, UK)

International Journal of Sensor Networks
Special Issue on
Wireless Sensor Networks with Environmental Energy Harvesting
Overview
Traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are normally battery powered
with limited energy supply. Years of effort had been given by
researchers and engineers to maximize the lifetime of WSNs in almost all
the aspects, e.g., routing, topology control, deployment, data
aggregation, clustering, and sleep scheduling. However, recently
advanced technical developments have allowed sensor nodes to harvest
environmental energy from natural sources, e.g., wind, water flow, ocean
currents, and solar, which enable WSNs to have the rechargeable energy
supply. With multiple energy sources, the overall efficiency,
reliability and sustainability are enhanced in any WSN application system.
This emerging technical development gives sensor nodes a totally
different energy model compared to traditional battery powered sensor
nodes, which fundamentally changed the assumption for many existing
lifetime optimization schemes. We should look back almost all
traditional challenging issues in WSNs to cope with this new changing.
New research issues, e.g., power management with multiple energy
sources, should also be considered.
This special issue aims at seeking new approaches, methods, and schemes
for solving both traditional and new challenging issues in WSNs with
environmental energy harvesting. Authors are invited to submit complete
unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other journal. The
topics suggested can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art,
standards, designs, implementations, running experiments or applications.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following scopes:
l Routing in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Sleep scheduling in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Topology control in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Data aggregation in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Clustering in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Multimedia streaming in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Security in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Cross-layer optimization in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Power management in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Capacity modeling, performance analysis, and theoretical analysis
l Mobility management in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting
l Transmission in WSNs with environmental energy harvesting

Special Issue on Machine-to-Machine: An Emerging Communication Paradigm
Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies (ETT)
(formerly known as European Transactions on Telecommunications)
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/%28ISSN%292161-3915
----- !! Manuscripts due : June 4, 2012 !! -----
----- !! Publication date : Q1/2013 !! -----
Aim and Scope:
--------------
In recent years, the number of networked machines and/or devices, such
as those encountered in automatic meter readers, vending machines, or in
remote monitoring applications; has dramatically increased. As a result,
we have witnessed the emergence of the so-called paradigm of
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication. M2M devices are often
characterized by very modest data rates, low mobility and stringent cost
requirements, along with the need to communicate over a wide area.
Besides, in the coming years, M2M devices are expected to significantly
outnumber voice and (often bandwidth-hungry) data terminals. All this
entails a major re-design of future cellular networks, which were
originally conceived with human-to-human communications in mind. This
opens a wide research area for future M2M communications, including
investigations on scalability, wide-area coverage, energy-efficiency,
spectral-efficiency, heterogeneity, cooperation, security and
inter-networking architectures. To this end, the European
Telecommunication Standards Institute's M2M Technical Committee has
proposed a hybrid architecture whereby cellular-enabled gateways act as
traffic aggregation and protocol translation points for their capillary
(i.e. wireless sensor) networks. Capillary networks, in turn, are
composed of a potentially high number of devices (namely, sensors and
actuators) equipped with short-range radio interfaces, often compliant
IEEE802.15.4-related standards. Current standardization activities in
3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) encompass a number of
optimizations specifically addressing machine-type communication needs.
Moreover, IPSO (IP for Smart Objects) is assembling a protocol stack
from standards being finalized at the IEEE and IETF.
This special issue aims at gathering recent advances in the areas of
advanced M2M communication systems, and technologies, with the
perspective of current M2M-related standardization activities in 3GPP,
ETSI, IEEE, IETF and IPSO.
