Subject of the Workshop
We lately witness a tremendous development in the wireless sensor
networking (WSN), which makes it possible to monitor, unobtrusively and for
long periods of time, the physical environment. Ensuring high connectivity
within the network is vital for real applications. Moreover, for many
applications, sensor networks cannot operate in complete isolation. There
must be a way enabling a monitoring entity or some end-users to gain access
to the data produced by the sensor network, and even to interact with a
particular sensor mote to activate/deactivate it, read the sensed values
instantaneously, fix some inner parameters, make dynamic code loading into
the mote, etc. By connecting the sensor network to an existing network
infrastructure such as a local-area network, a private intranet, mobile
network infrastructures, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and notably the
global internet, gaining remote access to the sensor network would be
straightforward.
The integration of RFID and WSN is one of the most promising technologies
that will play an important role in the emergence of Internet of the Things
(IoT). For example, in a healthcare application, RFID tags can be used to
track the elders, whereas the sensors are used to monitor the elders’
conditions. However, many questions need answers, and many challenges must
be tackled before such interconnection becomes effective. Suitability of IP
standards must be investigated, as well as the connection architecture. By
openly connect a sensor network to other networks, doors will be opened to
new vulnerabilities. An intruder would not need to gain physical access to
the network anymore, but he might remotely launch attacks. Security is thus
a very important aspect that must be considered. Routing, QoS, and
interoperability are also important and challenging issues in the new
heterogeneous systems.
Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication is an emerging paradigm that
transmits events captured by low-end machines such as sensors and smart
meters, to high-end applications that translate the captured events into
meaningful information. Data generally flows from a machine over a wired,
wireless, or hybrid network and then through a gateway to a system where it
can be automatically reviewed and actions may be taken without any
interaction from an operator. M2M is used in a wide range of applications
such as remote e-healthcare, smart homes, utility management, and
industrial automation.
Connecting different WSNs/part of a WSN is another issue that needs to be
considered. A WSN might get partitioned into distinct segments due to
battery exhaustion of sensors. Providing mechanisms to restore connectivity
by connecting those segments is of high importance, where an isolated
segment of sensor nodes that cannot reach its sink can exploit the
existence of a neighboring reachable WSN to deliver its sensed information.
This workshop is a forum for researchers, academics, and industrials to
debate the different issues related to the interconnection of wireless
sensor networks, and discuss relevant theoretical and practical solutions.
Topics
Topics of the workshop consist of all aspects related to WSN, with more
focus on the interconnection and integration of WSN to other networks, as
well as connectivity issues in WSNs. They include but are not limited to:
- Interconnection architecture aspects
- Connectivity, deployment, and relocation issues in WSNs
- Interconnection/Integration of WSN and RFID
- M2M communications
- IPv6/6LoWPAN in WSN
- Interconnecting sensor and actor networks

PWSN 2012
4th International Workshop on Performance Control in Wireless Sensor
Networks
http://www.netrl.cs.ucy.ac.cy/pwsn2012/
May 18 2012, Hangzhou, China
In conjunction with the 8th IEEE International Conference on Distributed
Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '12)
=========================================================================
Wireless sensor networks are currently the subject of intense research
and many prototype installations are currently investigated. However,
most of the existing sensor network installations have in common that
they are not considered time critical. No immediate action has to be
undertaken as a response to the received data. In contrast, many
envisioned future application areas of wireless sensor networks (such as
plant automation and control, traffic management, medical applications,
emergency solutions) require immediate and guaranteed actions. In such
environments, data has to be transported reliably and in time through
the sensor network towards the end user. To make the networking task
more complex, in many applications the end user or the controlling
intelligence is located remotely (e.g., remote monitoring, supervision
and surveillance applications), and the wireless sensor network
interworks with other networks (e.g., fixed infrastructure cellular,
Internet). Due to the lack of appropriate models, components and
protocols, it is currently very difficult to construct and operate a
wireless sensor network with performance guarantees. Thus, the
commercial success of wireless sensor networks in many application areas
is unsure unless this particular problem is understood and solved.
The PWSN workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners
working on performance issues within wireless sensor networks. The
workshop intends to examine research challenges associated with
achieving dependability in WSNs, share experiences from real-life
deployment of dependable sensor networks, discuss application-dependent
wireless sensor-actuator design methodologies, illustrate dependable
MAC, network and transport protocols, and in general, explore issues of
reliability in WSNs.

Internet Measurement Conference 2012
Sponsored by ACM SIGCOMM and ACM SIGMETRICS and in cooperation with USENIX
November 14-16 2012, Boston Massachusetts USA
The Internet Measurement Conference is a highly selective venue for
publishing and discussing measurement-based Internet research. IMC
2012<http://www-net.cs.umass.edu/imc2012/index.htm> invites submissions
that expand our understanding of how the Internet ecosystem behaves.
IMC takes a broad view of what constitutes the Internet ecosystem. This
view includes (but is not limited to):
* the Internet backbone and edge networks (e.g., home networks,
cellular networks, WLANs)
* data centers and cloud computing infrastructure
* peer-to-peer and content distribution networks
* infrastructure for online social networks
* applications that use these networks (e.g., Web, gaming,
multimedia streaming, VoIP, MapReduce)
Types of contributions that the program committee would enjoy receiving
submissions regarding include (but are not limited to):
* collection and analysis of data that yield new insights about
network structure and behavior (e.g., traffic, topology, routing,
privacy, security, energy use, economics)
* methods and tools to monitor and visualize network-based phenomena
* systems and algorithmic techniques that leverage measurement-based
findings in novel ways
* advances in data collection and handling (e.g., anonymization,
querying, storage, facilitating sharing)
* modeling of network structure and behavior (e.g., workload)
* reappraisal of previous empirical findings
Papers that do not relate to measuring aspects of the Internet ecosystem
are out of scope. Authors should contact the program chairs
(imc12(a)cs.ucsd.edu) if they are unsure whether their work is in scope.
Review process and criteria
* IMC 2012 invites two forms of submissions
* Full papers (up to 14 pages) that describe original research,
with succinctness appropriate to the topics and themes they discuss.
* Short papers (up to 6 pages for text and figures + up to 1 page
for references) that convey work that is less mature but shows promise,
articulate a high-level vision, describe challenging future directions,
critique current measurement wisdom, or offer results that do not merit
a full submission.
All submissions that are longer than what is allowed for a short paper
will be evaluated as full papers.
Authors should only submit original work that has not been published
before and is not under submission to any other venue. We will consider
full paper submissions that extend previously published short,
preliminary papers (including IMC short papers) following the model of
the ACM SIGCOMM policy
(http://www.sigcomm.org/about/policies/frequently-asked-questions-faq).
* Ethical standards for measurement must be considered by all
authors. In particular, authors must conform to acceptable use policies
for domains that are probed or monitored, data privacy and anonymity for
all personally identifiable information (PII) and etiquette for using
shared measurement data. (See Allman and Paxson, IMC
'07<http://conferences.sigcomm.org/imc/2007/papers/imc80.pdf>.) If
applicable, authors are also urged to notify parties of security flaws
in their products or services in advance of publication. Adherence to
ethical standards for measurement will be a criterion for all
submissions, and any violations---including ambiguous situations not
well described---will be grounds for rejection
* IMC 2012 will continue the "review summary" exercise from IMC
2011. Published versions of the papers will be accompanied by 1)
almost-verbatim but anonymized reviews written by the reviewers, and 2)
a short response by the authors to the reviews. For reference, see the
IMC 2011 program, where review summaries appear towards the end of each
paper. The main goal of this exercise is to make review process more
transparent by making public the PC's rationale for accepting the paper,
the main concerns of the reviewers, and the authors' response to those
concerns.
All accepted papers (both long and short) will be included in this
process. This exercise does not have any bearing on the accept/reject
decision on the paper, and it does not impact papers that are not
accepted for publication.
* IMC 2012 will bestow two awards (unlike previous years). One award
will recognize the outstanding paper at the conference, and all accepted
papers are eligible for it. The other award will recognize a paper that
contributes a novel dataset to the community. To be eligible for this
award, the authors must make their dataset publicly available (e.g.,
through CRAWDAD<http://crawdad.cs.dartmouth.edu/> for wireless data) by
the time of camera ready submission.
A few accepted papers may be forwarded for fast-track submission to
IEEE/ACM Transactions on
Networking<http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/RecentIssue.jsp?punumber=90>.
Submission guidelines
All submissions must satisfy the following requirements:
* up to 14 pages for full papers, or up to 6 pages (+1 for
references) for short papers
* 10-point font for main text; font used in other places (e.g.,
figures) should be no smaller than 9 point
* two-column format, with the size of each column being at most 9.25
x 3.33 inches and the space between columns being at least 0.33 inches
* letter page size (11 x 8.5 inches)
* include names and affiliations of all authors on the title page
(no anonymization)
Submissions that do not comply with these requirements will be rejected
without review. The sig-alternate-10pt.cls
style<http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2010/sig-alternate-10pt.cls> file
satisfies the formatting requirements. Compile your source with options
that produce letter page size.

(engl.
komplex, da hier zwei bisher weitgehend voneinander getrennte Welten
Dazu zaehlen explizit
sowohl praktische als auch algorithmische Aspekte.
