OVERVIEW
Mobile phones provide a widespread platform for deploying sensing
applications. Multiple factors, including the large number of sensors
available on phones with new ones being introduced in newer models,
proximity to user’s immediate environment, broadband connectivity, and
the potential to provide actionable information, make the phone a
compelling platform for many sensing applications. The emergence of
the mobile computing cloud further expands the scope of possible use
cases. Sensing applications can use the mobile phones and cloud
resources to sense, mine, and learn human behaviors and intentions to
provide personalized feedback and persuasion. Example sensing
application domains include personalized mobile information delivery,
context aware social networking, healthcare, games and entertainment,
education, device and environment customization, safety, and mobile
business.
The efficient and effective design of mobile sensing applications
opens up many interesting technical challenges. The PhoneSense
workshop promotes exchange of ideas among academic and industrial
researchers in research areas such as sensing, mobile computing,
location, energy efficiency, data management, data mining, machine
learning, inference, privacy, user incentives and applications.
The workshop considers hot topics, position papers, novel ideas,
in-progress work on system architecture, enabling technologies, and
emerging applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited
to:
• Novel Applications
• Mining large scale sensor and location data
• Mobile cloud and sensing interfaces
• Incentive models for mobile data collection
• Interaction between phones and humans
• Novel mobile sensor accessories
• Sensing and machine learning techniques
• Persuasion models and techniques to close the loop with users
• Privacy
• Participatory sensing, crowdsourcing, and opportunistic sensing paradigms
• Activity recognition and subjective sensing
• Programming models
• Experiment and campaign design
• Integration of on-phone and off-phone sensing
• Personalization, geo-targeting
• Personal health monitoring using mobile phones
• Data quality issues

Call for Papers for
Springer Mobile Networks and Applications Special Issue on
“Wireless Technology for Pervasive Healthcare”
Since the start of this new century, the proportion of seniors has been
increasing more rapidly than other age groups while the newborn rate is
steadily decreasing. This global aging problem demands an increased focus
on preparing pervasive healthcare systems and applications deployed around
users and capable of remotely caring for them and improving their health
and well-being anywhere anytime. These systems and applications require a
sophisticated integration of microcircuit, medical sensing, and wireless
and mobile technologies. They largely benefit users by decreasing the
dependability on special caregivers and eventually reducing healthcare
expenses through a more efficient use of healthcare resources and an
earlier detection of life-threatening emergency situations. However, the
realization of pervasive healthcare sets some additional critical
requirements, e.g. realtimeness and fault-tolerance, and reliability,
security and efficiency challenges compared with traditional hospital-based
systems. Exploitation of Information and Communications Technologies as
well as Networking and Sensors Technologies will enable cost-effective and
efficient healthcare delivery, capable to deal with physical and logical
mobility of patients and devices.
The focus of this call is on theory and applications of Wireless
Technologies towards the definition of the Next Generation Pervasive
Healthcare. Original, unpublished contributions are solicited. Possible
topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited to the following:
* Wireless body area networks for remote healthcare monitoring
* Energy efficient sensing and communication for pervasive healthcare
* Reliable and fault-tolerant communications in pervasive healthcare
* Network protocols design and analysis for pervasive healthcare
* Data management and resource sharing for pervasive healthcare
* Mobile, social, context-aware computing for pervasive healthcare
* Integration of different wireless technologies for pervasive healthcare
* Remote diagnosis and patient management for pervasive healthcare
* Distributed multimedia services for pervasive healthcare
* Emergency detection and response for pervasive healthcare
* Trust, security, privacy, and QoS provisioning for pervasive healthcare
* System architectures, applications & prototypes for pervasive healthcare

************ CALL FOR PAPERS ******************
----------- (WMCNT 2011) --------------
IEEE 4th International Workshop on
Mobile Computing and Networking Technologies
http://wmcnt.ntua.gr
3-5 October 2012
St. Petersburg, Russia
Scope
=====
The Fourth IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Computing and Networking
Technologies (WMCNT2012) will take place in conjunction with the IEEE
International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control
Systems (ICUMT 2012) to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in October 2012.
Continuing the great success of the previous events, WMCNT 2012 Workshop is
anticipated to attract a large number of high-quality submissions and
stimulate the cutting-edge research discussions among academic pioneering
researchers/scientists and industrial engineers/leaders from all around the
world.
Overview
========
Mobile computing and networking have inarguably emerged among the most
vibrant areas in the field of telecommunications today. Customers’
requirement for immediate response to their prerequisites, targeting on
access to information anywhere in the world at anytime, has increased the
demand for productivity and effectiveness of mobile computing and
networking. Moreover, the convergence of information communications
technology and computing is creating new demands and opportunities for
ubiquitous computing via wireless and mobile equipment without
technological
restrictions. Considering also the diversification of access technologies
and their applications that prevail in the present telecommunication
environment, amalgamated with the increased user mobility makes QoS
provision a challenging issue.
Future mobile communication networks offer a variety of high quality
applications. Furthermore, several challenges are imposed by the demanding
wireless networking environment, in terms of network architecture, channel
estimation, propagation and especially radio resource management. The
understanding of these issues becomes even more demanding due to
non-uniform
spectrum allocation, various radio resource management policies, economic
concerns, the scarcity of radio resources, the inherent transmission
impairments of wireless links and user mobility.
The aim of the Fourth IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Computing and
Networking Technologies (WMCNT 2012) is to provide an international venue
for the discussion of architecture, design, implementation, analysis,
measurement, performance and simulation in wireless, mobile and ubiquitous
computing environments. WMCNT 2012 will serve as an open forum, where novel
ideas will be exchanged via bringing together researchers, developers and
engineers in both academia and industry.

Oslo, Norway
The ACM Multimedia Systems conference provides a forum for researchers,
engineers, and scientist to present and share their latest research
findings in multimedia systems. While research about specific aspects of
multimedia systems is regularly published in the various proceedings and
transactions of the networking, operating system, real-time system, and
database communities, MMSys aims to cut across these domains in the
context of multimedia data types. This provides a unique opportunity to
view the intersections and interplay of the various approaches and
solutions developed across these domains to deal with multimedia data
types. Furthermore, MMSys provides an avenue for communicating research
that addresses multimedia systems holistically.
Full MMSys paper
Multimedia systems permeate many aspects of our daily life, and are
steadily developed further. MMSys is a venue for researchers who explore:
• Complete multimedia systems that provide a new kind of multimedia
experience or systems whose overall performance improves the
state-of-the-art through new research results in one of more components, or
• Enhancements to one or more system components that provide a
documented improvement over the state-of-the-art for handling continuous
media or time-dependent services.
Such individual system components include:
• Operating systems
• Distributed architectures and protocol enhancements
• Domain languages, development tools and abstraction layers
• Using new architectures or computing resources for multimedia
• New or improved I/O architectures or I/O devices, innovative uses and
algorithms for their operation
• Representation of continuous or time-dependent media
• Metrics, measures and measurement tools to assess performance
This touches aspects of many hot topics: DASH, games, virtual
environments, augmented reality, 3D video, immersive systems,
telepresence, multi- and many-core, GPGPUs, mobile streaming, P2P,
Clouds, cyber-physical systems – observe this space as we make more
information about the connections available as we developed the web
pages for 2013.
MMSys accepts full papers with 6 to 12 pages.
