CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE WoWMoM 2015
Sixteenth International Symposium on a
World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks
http://csr.bu.edu/wowmom15/
sponsored by
IEEE Computer Society,
Missouri University of Science and Technology,
IEEE Computer Society TC on Computer Communications (TCCC)
June 14-17, 2015
Boston, MA, USA
IEEE WoWMoM 2015 is soliciting original and previously unpublished
papers addressing research challenges and advances towards a world of
wireless, mobile, and multimedia pervasive communications.
The evolution of wireless networking technologies and their key role in
future Internet scenarios offer an increasing wealth of opportunities
for distributing multimedia contents over wireless networks, enabling
dissemination of professional contents to mobile users as well as
sharing user-generated contents among them. Users will be able to
retrieve, publish, and manage information, communicate with other users
or devices, access and author services, create and exploit context-
awareness and so on. Papers that present original work, validated by
experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. Practical
experiences and experimental efforts from both industry and academia,
duly documenting the lessons learned from testbeds, field-trials, or
real deployments, are also welcome.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Wireless multimedia systems, services and applications
- Opportunistic and delay-tolerant networks
- Ad-hoc, sensor, mesh and vehicular wireless networks
- Wireless BAN, PAN, LAN, MAN and WAN
- Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and the Internet of Things
- Middleware services for wireless, mobile and multimedia networks
- Context-awareness in wireless, mobile and multimedia networks
- Content-centric architectures, multimedia content management and
distribution for mobile networks
- Localization mechanisms and services
- Participatory, mobile and urban sensing
- Mobile social networking
- Resource management and QoS/QoE provisioning
- Multicasting and broadcasting issues
- Handoff and mobility management
- Network management and control
- Dependability, reliability and survivability issues for wireless,
mobile and multimedia networks

ABOUT THE FACHGESPRAECH
----------------------------------------------------
More about previous editions: http://fg-ivc.car2x.org/
Inter-vehicle communication (IVC), the management and control of network
connections among vehicles as well as between vehicles an existing
network infrastructure, is a maturing research field that is currently
gaining massive momentum. The investment of European automobile
manufacturers and OEMs into this idea is not only expressed in
successful efforts to reserve dedicated radio spectrum harmonized across
Europe, but is also reflected in numerous research ventures in
cooperation with academia.
First standardization efforts across all layers, by both IEEE and ETSI,
have already borne fruit, allowing researchers to gain valuable insights
into both the strengths and the shortcomings of current approaches. A
tremendous body of experience could be gathered in both national and
international large scale field tests as well as in the domain of
simulation and modeling. However, this knowledge is still fragmented,
making it hard for new players to get into the game and affording even
experienced groups only a restricted view on this complex field.
---------------------------------
GOALS
---------------------------------
We invite young researchers and their experienced colleagues to discuss
new research directions and early results in the areas of inter-vehicle
communication and automated vehicles.
This third edition of the GI/ITG KuVS Fachgespräch Inter-Vehicle
Communication will discuss vehicular communications in general, this
year also inspired by new ideas in the context of automated vehicles.
Automated driving has made several leaps forward in the past years, with
the Google Car reaching a record of about 1.1 million autonomously
driven kilometers and governments across the world starting the
legislative process that will allow purchased autonomous vehicles to
drive on normal roads. This significant progress led some to pose the
question of the necessity of vehicular communication systems,
considering the many privacy and security issues associated with them.
Topics of interest for this edition include:
* Communication protocol design and network management
* Channel modeling, modulation and coding
* Congestion control and scalability issues
* Medium access control protocols
* Multi-channel organization and operation
* Vehicle-to-vehicle/roadside/Internet communication
* Vehicle-to-cyclist/Vehicle-to-pedestrian communication
* Applications of vehicular networks
* Simulation frameworks
* Real-world testbeds
* Autonomous driving
* Cooperative driving
* Security in automated vehicles
* Traffic management for automated vehicles
* Human interfaces for automated vehicles
* Security issues and countermeasures
* Misbehavior detection in vehicular and in-vehicle communication
* Privacy in traffic applications
* Electric vehicle applications

=====================
Wireless sensor nodes are small devices that combine computing, sensing,
and communication capabilities. Recently, the wireless sensor network
(WSN) is considered to be able to conduct many interesting applications.
For example, for the smart home service, wireless sensors can be
in-built on electric devices. When a user controls a device by a smart
controller, the corresponding wireless sensor receives the command and
performs appropriate/smart actions. For the industry, wireless sensor
nodes can be used to monitor the vibration of machines. When there is an
abnormal alarm, the sensor nodes can generate an instant report to the
person in charge. Besides the above two examples, there are many other
novel applications developing based on WSN technology, e.g., indoor
localization, disaster monitoring, structure health monitoring, and so
on. These applications have different considerations and requirements
that need to be conquered.
The aim of this workshop is to provide the opportunities for researchers
and industrials to discuss on the achievements on applications that
integrate with wireless sensors. We encourage authors to show possible
scenarios, development of prototyping implementations, and evaluations
on real cases. We further welcome the ideas which integrate with smart
portable devices, involve multiple platforms, and interwork between
different standards/protocols. Potential topics include, but are not
limited to:
-Integration of multiple platforms/protocols/devices in WSN applications
-Sensing devices designing for WSN applications
-Transmission protocol design and standard develop for WSN applications
-Power management and energy conserving for WSN applications

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Special issue on eHealth in IEEE Systems Journal

CALL FOR PAPERS
<Special Issue on “Communications Technologies and Infrastructures for Smart
eHealth Systems” in IEEE Systems Journal>
SCOPE
Research advances in healthcare domain have facilitated the integration of
different technologies for smart, cost-effective, reliable, and pervasive
health monitoring of chronic diseases - which have affected around one
billion people worldwide. Current research efforts focus on developing
real-time communication methods, mostly for Body Area Networks (BANs) that
are used to deliver patients´ information effectively. These efforts are
limited to communication within a BAN, however less attention has been given
to connect multiple BANs to remote servers in real-time. In addition, there
is a limited study on the integration of BANs with different technologies
including mobile cloud computing - a technology that may assist in storing
and processing the huge amount of BAN data at competitive costs. Machine to
Machine (M2M) is also considered to be a valuable tool in delivering BAN
data to a remote server/cloud for further analysis. This may assist in
reducing risks and cost of remote health monitoring. Unlike conventional
research in BANs where researchers focused on individual networks, there is
a need to develop innovative communication methods with a focus on complete
and smart eHealth systems. This smart eHealth system must integrate the
aforementioned technologies with multiple BANs, and provide rich healthcare
services to end users. It calls for research on versatile topics ranging
from Physical (PHY) and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols to BANs
coexistence, traffic characterization, cloud resource allocation, and cloud
monitoring and maintenance.
This special issue will focus on novel communication methods for smart
eHealth systems, by identifying new perspectives and highlight potential
research issues and challenges. Specifically, this special issue will
demonstrate how the emerging technologies including cloud computing and/or
M2M could be used in future healthcare systems. Original review and survey
articles will be considered as well. The topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
- M2M communication methods
- Energy-efficient PHY/MAC and networking protocols
- BANs and mobile cloud computing
- Cloud resource allocation and monitoring
- Wearable and implantable computing
- IoT for smart eHealth systems
- Fault tolerance, reliability and scalability
- Traffic characterization
- Coexistence issues of multiple BANs
- Security and privacy
- QoS issues in BANs/cloud computing
- Experimental and simulation-based methods
- Case studies of smart eHealth architectures
Papers should address the above specific topics from the system perspective
and in the context of eHealth systems in order to be considered for this
special issue.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Authors are invited to submit original research contributions by following
the detailed instructions given in the “Information for Authors” at
http://www.ieeesystemsjournal.org. In the cover letter, authors should
explicitly state that the paper is submitted to the “Special Issue on
Communication Technologies and Infrastructures for Smart eHealth Systems”.
