Scope
-----------------------------------------------
Recent advances in networking, communications, computation, software, and
hardware technologies have revolutionized the way humans, smart things, and
engineered systems interact and exchange information. The Internet of
Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), which are the major
contributors in this area, will fuel the realization of this new, globally
interconnected cyber-world. Yet, the success, prosperity, and advancement
of IoT and CPS strongly depend on the security, privacy, and trust of the
IoT and cyber-physical devices as well as the sensitive data being
exchanged. While these technologies offer a lot of new possibilities, the
increasing complexity of hardware and software as well as the worldwide
access increase the vulnerability to security attacks Successful attacks
targeted to IoT devices and CPS have in common that not only a single
computer is affected, but also interconnected technical systems allowing
interaction with the physical world are influenced, leading to malfunction
of devices and control systems with severe financial, environmental, and
health losses. This fact highlights the need to develop novel tools that
will constitute the heart of a much-needed science of security for IoT &
CPS. The goal of this workshop is to bring together internationally leading
academic and industrial researchers in an effort to identify and discuss
the major technical challenges and recent results aimed at addressing all
aspects of security and privacy for IoT and CPS.
-----------------------------------------------
Topics of Interest
-----------------------------------------------
To ensure complete coverage of the advances in this field, the 2015
IoT/CPS-Security Workshop solicits original contributions in, but not
limited to, the following topical areas:
- Security, Privacy, and Trust for IoT and CPS

CALL FOR PHD FORUM SUBMISSIONS
NetSys 2015
2nd International Conference on Networked Systems
https://www.netsys2015.com/calls/call-for-phd-forum/
Cottbus, Germany, March 9-13, 2015
========================================================================
The doctoral colloquium at the Networked Systems 2015 follows the
tradition and format of similar events at international conferences
such as PerCom, UbiComp, and Pervasive. The aim is twofold. First, it
should provide PhD students in an early phase of their career with an
opportunity to discuss their topics with experts and gain general
feedback as well as specific comments on their proposal. Second, the
PhD Forum is an excellent opportunity for young researchers to start a
personal network with other PhD students as well as with already
established experts.
The aim of the doctoral colloquium is to discuss research topics and
PhD projects at different – typically – early stages. The colloquium
aims at a friendly atmosphere which shall inspire the participants and
put them – and their research – in the focus. A panel of experts will
discuss the research based on a short presentation. Interactivity and
discussion are the the goal. In addition to the colloquium a
presentation of all participants at the main conference will take place
as a poster session. A brief introduction of the topics (One-Minute-
Madness) is used to attract conference participants.
Submission Process:
-------------------
Prospective participants are required to submit their application
documents via email (chairs(a)netsys2015.com):
* Research Statement: a two-page abstract that sketches the research
proposal of the PhD student, the contribution to knowledge and how the
research will advance the state of the art.
* Curriculum Vitae: a one brief CV that lists the education, research
interests and - if available - publications.
In addition, a poster has to be presented at the main conference in a
special PhD poster session.
Important Dates:
----------------
* Submission Deadline: November 28th, 2014 (extended)
* Notification of Acceptance: December 15th, 2014
* PhD Forum: March 9th, 2015
PhD Forum Chairs:
-----------------
* C. Becker, Univ. of Mannheim, Germany

IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Special Issue on Cloud Computing for IoT
Submission Deadline: December 1st 2014
CALL FOR PAPERS
====================================================
Over recent past years there has been a growing interest in the ability
of embedded devices, sensors, actuators to communicate and create a
ubiquitous cyber-physical world. The growth of the notion of the
Internet of Things (IoT) and the rapid development of technologies such
as short range mobile communication and improved energy-efficiency is
expected to create a pervasive connection of “things”. This will
inevitably result in the generation of enormous amount of data, which
have to be stored, processed and accessed. Cloud computing has long been
recognized as a paradigm for big data storage and analytics. The
combination of cloud computing and IoT can enable ubiquitous sensing
services and powerful processing of sensing data streams beyond the
capability of individual “things”, thus stimulating innovations in both
fields. For example, cloud platforms allow the sensing data to be stored
and used intelligently for smart monitoring and actuation with the smart
devices. Novel data fusion algorithms, machine learning methods, and
artificial intelligence techniques can be implemented and run
centralized or distributed on the cloud to achieve automated decision
making. These will boost the development of new applications such as
smart cities, grids, and transportation systems. New challenges however
arise when IoT meets cloud – there is an urgent need for novel network
architectures that seamlessly integrate them, and protocols that
facilitate big data streaming from IoT to the cloud. QoS and QoE, as
well as data security, privacy, and reliability, are critical concerns
during the integration.
This special issue solicits high-quality original research papers which
focuses on the integration of cloud computing and IoT. We encourage
submissions on theoretical, practical, as well as experimental studies,
from both academia and industry, related to all aspects of Cloud
Computing for IoT. High-quality survey papers that review the cutting
edge research in this field would also be considered. Topics of
interests include (but are not limited to) the following categories:
- Network architecture for cloud and IoT integration
- IoT and cloud data management
- Cloud computing for large-scale sensor data stream processing
- Cloud-assisted machine to machine communication
- Innovative applications of cloud-based sensing architecture, e.g.,
smart cities, smart grids, transportation
- Protocol design and modification for cloud and IoT integration (e.g.,
CoAP, IPv6)
- Data security, privacy and reliability for cloud and IoT integration
- Cloud-assisted IoT mobility management and QoE/QoS enhancement
- Cloud-assisted ubiquitous sensing services and applications

ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology
Special Issue on Crowd in Intelligent Systems
= AIMS AND SCOPE =
Crowdsourcing, i.e., outsourcing tasks to an indefinite crowd, has now
become a common strategy to resolve problems that are difficult to
computers. It has proven the intelligence, wisdom, or judgments from
the crowd, when appropriately combined, can be effective in addressing
challenges in various areas, from knowledge organization (such as
Wikipedia), business investment, policy making, government transparency
to scientific development. In particular, the contributions from the
crowd are stretching out the horizon of intelligent systems by filling
the gap between artificial intelligence and human intelligence with the
wisdom of crowd. Successful applications can readily been seen in the
fields of computer-human interaction, computer vision, information
retrieval, social computing, biomedical research (such as Foldit), and
information and multimedia systems.
The uses in crowdsourcing have opened up many new forms of intelligent
systems and technologies most of which have barely been explored to
date. However, challenging research questions still lie in the way to
unleash the potentials of the crowd as a part of intelligent systems.
This special issue aims to address these challenges in the hope of
overcoming the obstacles blocking the road toward intelligent systems

Call for Papers
The 14th IFIP Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop
http://medhocnet2015.uc.pt/June 17-19, 2015
Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal
OVERVIEW
The unstoppable evolution of network technologies is paving the way to
new network and users scenarios, driving creative services and building
new business models. Wide and easy connectivity, network
programmability, fast speed connections and decoupled data and
management repositories, as well as smart devices are all of them
facilitating innovation in the networking and services arena.
MED-HOC-NET 2015 focuses on fundamental network concepts, but also on
topics related to those network paradigms attracting large attention by
the scientific and industrial communities. Hence, the conference
includes topics such as smart cities, smart transportation, IoT,
data-centric operations, autonomous organization, seamless connectivity
and cross-layer design and application scenarios (road safety, disaster
recovery, smart cities, energy efficient buildings, sensors, actuators,
wearables, etc.). Moreover, novel and exciting challenges are
introduced by commercial systems adopting the ad hoc paradigm, from
mesh, sensor and vehicular networks, and by associated delay-tolerant
and opportunistic scenarios. Furthermore, today's market explosion of
smart phones is creating new opportunities for wireless ad hoc social
networks, the study of which requires the combination of opportunistic
ad hoc networking aspects with the understanding of social behavior and
mobility patterns.
Following recent successful conferences in Sicily (2006), Corfu (2007),
Palma de Mallorca (2008), Haifa (2009), Juan-les-pins (2010), Favignana
Island (2011), Cyprus (2012), Corsica (2013) and Slovenia, Med-Hoc-Net
2015 will take place in Algarve.
