CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE INTERNET OF THINGS JOURNAL: SPECIAL ISSUE ON
Internet of Things over LTE/LTE-A Network:
Theory, Methods, and Case Studies
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
With the global deployment in the fourth-generation (4G) cellular
networks, long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) have
become key technologies to enable Internet of Things (IoT)
applications. To accommodate various streaming data of IoT
applications, LTE/LTE-A standards have defined several
quality-of-service (QoS) classes for different traffic
characteristics, in terms of traffic bit-rate, tolerable delay and
packet loss rate. Moreover, to meet the stringent power-saving
requirements for IoT devices, LTE/LTE-A standards also have defined
the discontinuous reception/transmission (DRX/DTX) mechanism to
allow devices to turn off their radio interfaces and go to sleep
when no data need to be received or transmitted from/to the evolved
Node B (eNB). Clearly, the convergence of IoT and 3GPP LTE network
can considerably benefit both sides. IoT devices could efficiently
transfer their data using LTE/LTE-A networks, while the LTE/LTE-A
operators may develop more value-added IoT services. Despite such
promising future, there are still many challenges for IoT over
LTE/LTE-A network. This special issue aims to help both industry
and academia research communities to better understand the recent
progress and potential research directions on the path towards the
future of IoT over LTE/LTE-A.
Topics of interests include (but are not limited to) the following
categories:
* Future IoT concepts, applications and services for LTE/LTE-A networks
* Energy efficient IoT with LTE DRX/DTX fine tune
* QoS provisioning and cross-layer design for Internet of Things over 4G
cellular network
* LTE Security and privacy enhancement for Internet of Things
* Hierarchical LTE IoT architectures and eNB IoT Gateway
* Novel traffic modeling and resource/mobility management for LTE/LTE-A IoT
* Commercial model and case study of LTE/LTE-A IoT System
* Data-centric, protocol-centric and technology-centric approaches for the
design of IoT in LTE/LTE-A
* Data fusion and aggregation for IoT over LTE/LTE-A
* Novel pricing, billing and charging schemes for LTE/LTE-A IoT system
* Successful testbeds and trials of LTE/LTE-A IoT system
* Current and future standardization activities related to cellular IoT

CALL FOR PAPERS
The key components of many pervasive systems and applications are already
deployed in the form of ubiquitous commercial products carried by humans.
Human mobility makes it possible for such key components to interact,
promoting cooperation and sharing of content, services and resources.
Smartphones, tablet PCs, and other personal devices act as mobile computing
elements able to gather information about the surrounding environment
according to the mobility of users. In other situations these devices
operate as mobile nodes of the computing and/or networking infrastructure,
where interaction and communication occur opportunistically.
The goal of PerMoby is to explore the impact of human mobility on the
achievement of the pervasive computing vision. The focus is on pervasive
applications, systems, and protocols where mobility plays an active role
in achieving the end goals.
Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of
human-centric applications and systems are solicited. Papers describing
prototype implementations and deployment of such applications and systems
are particularly welcome. The submission of papers on controversial issues
is also encouraged. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- pervasive systems and applications based on (or influenced by) human
mobility
- mobile phone sensing applications and systems
- opportunistic and participatory sensing, and anything in between
- opportunistic computing
- pervasive systems with humans in the loop
- wearable sensing systems
- mobility models
- distributed computing approaches that rely on human mobility
- impact of human mobility on wireless communication
- green pervasive applications that leverage human mobility
- mobility aware protocols
- opportunistic networking
- pervasive social networking
PUBLICATION AND INDEXING
Papers are published in the combined proceedings of the IEEE PerCom
Workshops and will appear on IEEExplore.
According to Google’s metrics, the combined proceedings (main conference +
workshops) are characterised by high values of h5 index and h5-median index,
respectively equal to 32 and 45. This makes the IEEE PerCom Workshops one of
the publication venues with higher visibility and impact in the area of
pervasive computing.
In the last years, the IEEE PerCom Workshops proceedings have always been
indexed by Scopus. Besides appearing within the database, a paper that
is published in the IEEE PerCom Workshops is both a “source” and a
“destination” for the Scopus citation managing system (and thus it
contributes to the author’s h-index and citation count, as computed
by Scopus).
PAPER SUBMISSION
Papers should contain original material and should not be previously
published or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts
are limited to a maximum of 6 pages in IEEE conference format. At least
one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop
to present the paper. There is no workshop-only registration. An oral
presentation at the workshop is strictly required. Failure to present
the paper at the workshop will result in the withdrawal of the paper
from the proceedings as well as from IEEE Xplore. Paper submission will
be via EDAS (further details will be available on the workshop website).

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Call for Papers: IAB Workshop on Stack Evolution in a Middlebox Internet (SEMI)
IAB Workshop on Stack Evolution in a Middlebox Internet (SEMI)
26-27 January 2015 – ETH Zürich, Switzerland
The Internet’s transport layer has ossified, squeezed between narrow
interfaces (from BSD sockets to pseudo-transport over HTTPS) and
increasing in-network modification of traffic by middleboxes that make
assumptions about the protocols running through them. This ossification
makes it difficult to innovate in the transport layer, through the
deployment of new protocols or the extension of existing ones. At the
same time, emerging applications require functionality that existing
protocols can provide only inefficiently, if at all.
To begin to address this problem, the Internet Architecture Board (IAB),
within the scope of its IP Stack Evolution Program, is organizing a
workshop to discuss approaches to de-ossifying transport, especially
with respect to interactions with middleboxes and new methods for
implementing transport protocols. Recognizing that the end-to-end
principle has long been compromised, we start with the fundamental
question of matching paths through the Internet with certain
characteristics to application and transport requirements. Which paths
through the Internet are actually available to applications? Which
transports can be used over these paths? How can applications cooperate
with network elements to improve path establishment and discovery? Can
common transport functionality and standardization help application
developers to implement and deploy such approaches in today’s Internet?
Could cooperative approaches give us a way to rebalance the Internet
back toward its end-to-end roots?
Topics
For this workshop we would like to consider topics that speak to these
questions, including the following:
- Development and deployment of transport-like features in application-
layer protocols
- Methods for discovery of path characteristics and protocol
availability along a path
- Methods for middlebox detection and characterization of middlebox
behavior and functionality
- Methods for NAT and middlebox traversal in the establishment of end-
to-end paths
- Mechanisms for cooperative path-endpoint signaling, and lessons
learned from existing approaches
- Economic considerations and incentives for cooperation in middlebox
deployment
We will explicitly focus on approaches that are incrementally deployable
within the present Internet.
The outcome of the workshop will be architectural and engineering
guidance on future work in the area, published as an IAB workshop
report, based on discussion of proposed approaches; future work will be
pursued within the IAB Stack Evolution Program. We will also explore
possible areas for standardization, e.g. new protocols that separate
signaling to and from on-path devices and common transport semantics
from the rest of the transport protocol; and for general guidance, e.g.
how transports as well as middleboxes can be designed and deployed to
achieve these goals.
Submission Instructions
Attendance at the workshop is by invitation. Prospective participants
are invited to submit short position papers outlining their views on one
or more topics related to the scope of the workshop. Position papers
will be published on the IAB website at:
http://www.iab.org/activities/workshops/semi/.
Submissions accepted at:
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=semi2015
Submission Deadline: 31 October 2014
Notification Deadline: 17 November 2014
Workshop Dates: 26-27 January 2015

CALL FOR PAPERS
A Special Issue of Ad hoc Networks (Elsevier) on
Vehicular Networking for Mobile Crowd Sensing
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/ad-hoc-networks/call-for-papers/special-is…
================================================
Scope:
Mobility of people and goods is vital to urban economy and quality of
life. It is estimated that people will increase their need of mobility
around 35% per decade for the next 3 decades.
In this context, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) can be seen as new
key enablers of the future networked society.
Vehicles travelling acquire, as mobile sensors, a variety of information
with increased capillarity in time and space. The vast information
collected by vehicles can be used to enable a plurality of new services
addressing safety, traffic management, smart navigation, in-vehicle
remote control, pollution measurements, urban surveillance, environment
monitoring, forensic investigations, and Internet access. Hence, VANETs
represent a wide dynamic sensing opportunity.
The acquisition, sharing, processing, and transmission of data from, to,
and among vehicles foresee a new way to manage the communications:
heterogeneity is inherent to devices, to data, and also to technologies.
This opens new challenges whose complexity increases with the amount of
connected vehicles.
A typical challenge is how to make vehicles opportunistically cooperate,
sharing resources and contents, how to optimize the transmission through
operated networks or road side units (i.e., vehicle to infrastructure
-V2I - communications), and how to obtain a real advantage from
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications (such as, offloading of cellular
networks, resource optimization, creation of new services).
Other challenges derive from the jointly management and seamless
integration of heterogeneous data flows, from frequent but small packets
transmitted in V2V links, to huge multimedia flows shared and
transmitted through the infrastructure.
This special issue is seeking original contributions on VANETs, sharing
the research efforts and deployment challenges in this field and
discussing challenges, key enabling techniques, unprecedented
approaches, and field trails. Topics of interests include (but are not
limited to):
-Enabling technologies for vehicles cooperation (IEEE 802.11p, LTE,
Visible Light Communication, etc.)
-Cooperative approach for V2I communication
-Physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) techniques (OFDMA, CSMA,
non orthogonal waveforms) for V2V and V2I communications
-Design of advanced PHYs for the coexistence of heterogeneous data flows
(high rate flows with several low rate flows)
-Multi-modal heterogeneous networks and optimal management of resources
-Distributed algorithms for data collection
-Optimal retrieval of relevant data and optimal routing toward the final
users
-New ideas toward an efficient handling of huge number of devices with
widely varying requirements (e.g., information-centric networking)
-Example of ITS or Smart Cities applications relying on data collected
by vehicles
-Field trial experiments.
Original, high quality contributions that are not yet published or that
are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed
conferences are sought. Authors should submit a PDF version of their
complete manuscript according to the following timetable.

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Call for Papers -- PAM 2015
PAM (Passive and Active Measurement) 2015 - Call for Papers
IMPORTANT DATES:
Abstract Registration Due: Sept. 25, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Submission Deadline: Oct. 2, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Notification: Nov. 21, 2014
Camera Ready Due: Dec. 19, 2014 (11:59pm PDT)
Conference: New York City, NY, March 19-20, 2015
GENERAL INFORMATION
PAM seeks to bring together both the network research and operations
communities to consider network measurement and analysis techniques,
particularly those in the earlier stages of research.
PAM has in the past focused on research and practical applications of
network measurement at Layer-3. However, in the last 3 years PAM
broadened its scope to encompass measurements of networked
applications, content distribution networks, online social networks,
overlay networks, and more. Measurement technology is needed at all
layers of the stack: for power profiling of hardware components; at
the MAC/network/transport layers; as well as up the stack for
application profiling and even to collect user feedback. Measurement
technologies are being designed for the digital home, residential
access networks, wireless and mobile access, enterprise, ISP and data
center networks.
PAM continues to encourage a broad range of submissions across these
recently important topics. We aim to understand the role that
measurement techniques can play in networked environments and
applications, across different layers, and how they can serve as
critical building blocks for broader measurement needs. At the same
time, PAM also continues with its original goal, to expand the
techniques, tools and practical uses of network measurement
technology.
Original papers are invited, but not limited to, the following topics:
* Passive and active measurement tools: techniques, design and experience.
* Characterization studies of network usage, or end-host behavior.
* Application-layer measurements: e.g., social networks or game performance.
* Measurements of protocol behavior: e.g., DNS, DHCP, or routing protocols.
* Network measurements for troubleshooting and anomaly detection.
* Measurements related to network security and privacy.
* Measurements of data centers, cloud services and content distribution.
* Metrics and measurements of resilience and dependability.
* Measurement of end-user performance and quality of experience.
* Management and operation of distributed measurement infrastructures.
* Techniques for measurements and measurement-based inference of
macroscopic Internet structure, dynamics, and evolution.
* Management and visualization of measurement data.
* New measurement initiatives.
* Measurement analysis techniques: e.g., traffic classification.
* Modeling of network measurement.
* Correlation of measurements across multiple layers, protocols or networks.
* Internet-oriented wireless and mobility measurements.
Although PAM traditionally attracts work that is at an early stage,
works that are a reappraisal or independent validation of previous
results, or which enhance the reproducibility of network measurement
research, for instance by publishing new datasets on an existing
topic, are explicitly included in PAM's ambit, and are particularly
encouraged.
Paper submissions are limited to 12 pages, see the conference website
(link below) for more details about paper submission.
