It will serve as a platform for presenting and discussing in the areas of physical layer design, networking and related topics, facilitating communication system development as well as cooperation among the key players. Regarding extreme conditions, some examples are: • Disaster situations, e.g. fires, floods, including post-disaster search and rescue/recovery • Networks which are deployed in remote and possibly hazardous locations, such as, volcanoes, polluted and radioactive areas • Situations where wireless interference that may be detrimental/hazardous to the surrounding, such as, ICUs / medical instrumentation, industrial plants Workshop will be held in beautiful Doha Qatar in conjunction with WCNC 2016 and welcome a broad range of topics including communication system design, mobile computing, low power devices and protocols, delay tolerant networks and other networking paradigms, distributed computing paradigms, big data, distributed systems, cloud computing and user experience. To efficiently facilitate more high data rate services among nearby users and devices, device-to-device (D2D) communication has been proposed and has attracted significant attention in both the academia and the industry. A major issue in D2D communication is to understand the impact of the social networks. Since mobile devices are typically used and carried by people, a natural question one may ask is: “What are the benefits of considering human’s social relations in D2D communication?” For example, when a person is at work, he might exploit his social connections to nearby co-workers to improve the quality of D2D communications, e.g., by asking the most trustful user/device to relay his network traffic. When there is no trustworthy friend in the vicinity, he might negotiate with nearby users/strangers to achieve cooperative D2D communication by offering relay assistance to each other. Such mutually beneficial actions will also help expand this person’s social network. A more generic approach to context modeling is needed in order to capture various features of context information including a variety of types of context information, dependencies between context information, quality of context information and context histories. Tools for modeling and reasoning with the social context of groups of people are also needed. In addition, to ease software engineering problems, appropriate abstractions are necessary to support discovery and reuse of context information as well as scalable methods of context processing and management. This workshop's aim is to advance the state of the art in context modeling and reasoning and also discuss fundamental issues in context processing and management. The resiliency of such communication systems in face of natural disasters, malicious attacks, or even day-to-day wear and tear has become of great importance to maintain the continuous operation of such critical systems. Resilience can have many definitions that range from the ability of a communication system to operate under harsh environments or to withstand malicious attacks, all the way to its adaptability to failures or other unexpected events. In particular, resilience of public safety communication networks during emergencies can become a matter of life or death, since first responders and public safety personnel rely heavily on wired and wireless communication capabilities to execute their search and rescue operations. At the same time, critical infrastructure networks and other civil protection network deployments need to be highly robust, and function effectively in the presence of dynamically varying external and internal conditions. All papers for IEEE SECON 2016 must be submitted via the conference submission page accessible from the conference website. Papers must be no longer than 9 pages and in font size no smaller than 10 points. Along with full research papers, EWSN solicits submissions of poster and demo abstracts whose contribution will be publicly presented during the conference. The poster session at EWSN will provide a forum for researchers to present their work in progress and to receive feedback from experts attending the conference.
