The THEME
---------------
Energy Informatics is emerging as a new and inter-disciplinary research
field. The main goal is to tackle the future global warming, energy
crisis, and climate change challenges by exploiting advanced ICT
theories and tools to address energy-related problems. The scope of
Energy Informatics includes the next-generation communications,
networking, computing, sensing and control technologies (e.g., big data,
machine learning, 5G, cloud computing, fog computing); and their
applications in the energy sectors (e.g., smart cities, smart grid,
electric vehicles, and PV systems). In the past decade, we have
witnessed a rapid development and application of advanced informatics
technologies (information, communications, and networking technologies)
to realize sustainable smart cities, covering many successful examples
such as green buildings, smart homes, distributed microgrid systems, and
green transportation systems. When equipped with advanced ICT
technologies, buildings and homes are able to significantly improve
energy efficiency, reliability, and security in grid operations, while
satisfying users’ comfort, and thus benefitting all stakeholders, namely
energy consumers, utility companies, and energy generators. Moreover,
distributed microgrid systems facilitate the deep integration of
renewable energy and promote an efficient, secure, and economic
exploitation of renewable energy resources. The rapid development of
informatics technologies also leads to the success of green
transportation systems, driving an exponential growth in using electric
vehicles. A variety of recent advanced informatics technologies play
important and indispensable roles in green transportation systems, and
enable the joint management of energy flows, information flows, as well
as transportation flows.
TOPICS

Submission Deadline: 10 December 2017
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Convergence of
Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, and Big Data in Industrial Internet of
Things.
With growing attention from both academia and industry, industrial
Internet of things (IIoT), comprised of a multitude of connected
devices, is supposed to monitor, collect, exchange, analyze, and further
instantly act on information to intelligently change the industrial
device’s behaviour or the industrial environment (e.g., autonomous
reaction to unexpected changes in production by effectively detecting
failures and triggering maintenance processes). In consideration of this
goal, the convergence of sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data
in IIoT is recently identified as an essential component. Specifically,
sensor networks are deployed to capture various data in IIoT. Meanwhile,
cloud computing platforms are developed to store and process data
powerfully in IIoT. Moreover, big data analytics tools are utilized to
glean valuable findings from the massive data in IIoT.
However, to integrate sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in
IIoT in a robust way, there are a lot of tough issues to be solved with
respect to various aspects (e.g., framework, power efficiency, security,
quality of service, etc.). Therefore, this Special Section in IEEE
Access aims to solicit original technical papers with novel
contributions on the convergence of sensor networks, cloud computing,
and big data in IIoT. Review or survey type articles will also be
considered. Submissions should focus on the convergence (i.e., the
contemporaneous utilization of at least two of the three technologies –
sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT). Submissions
that work on the experimental implementation of the convergence of
sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT are especially
welcome.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Frameworks that integrate sensor networks, cloud computing, and
big data in IIoT
* Data gathering in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Green mechanisms that integrate sensor networks, cloud computing,
and big data in IIoT
* Data communication in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Security techniques that integrate sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data computing in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Quality of service enhancement methods that integrate sensor
networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data fusion in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Novel applications that integrate sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data mining in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.

With smart-phones in their pockets, more than 1 billion people now have
access to sensing, computation, and connectivity, making it possible to
harness the power of the crowd to collect and share data about their
surroundings and experiences on a massive scale.
Crowdsensing/crowdsourcing is a novel data collection paradigm that
leverages this vast mobile sensor network, making it possible to expand
the scope of research endeavors and address civic issues without
requiring the purchase of specialized sensors or the installation and
maintenance of network infrastructure. Data collected using such
applications may come from unexpected yet interesting and valuable
sources and may allow for collecting data in previously inaccessible
locations and contexts.
This new data collection paradigm introduces several research
challenges. Privacy is a primary concern for users who contribute
sensitive or personally identifiable information (PII). Incentive
mechanisms for participation may be needed to encourage people to
volunteer their resources to collect data. Methods are needed for
processing large-scale, user-generated data sets into meaningful
information, and for assessing and understanding the quality of
information to help guide decision-making. Approaches which involve the
crowd in such data analysis tasks, with humans serving as a source of
semantic information, interpretation, and evaluation of
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data, can also help to build an understanding
of the physical, computational, and socio-technical environment.
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for discussion,
debate, and collaboration focused on ideas, trends, techniques, and
recent advances in crowdsensing and crowdsourcing. We invite original
research contributions that advance the state of the art as well as
position papers that pose a new direction or present a controversial
point of view. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Algorithms to handle, process, and visualize large-scale
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data sets
• Data integrity, security, privacy, and provenance for
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
• Trust and reputation systems for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
• Determining and assessing Quality of Information for
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
• Crowd-assisted (human-in-the-loop) approaches to analyzing
crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data
• Context modeling and reasoning in crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
• Incentive mechanisms for participation in crowdsensing/crowdsourcing
applications
• Supporting crowdsensing/crowdsourcing in heterogeneous networks
• Crowd assisted pervasive systems and communications
• Novel use of sensors for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
• Energy-efficient mechanisms for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
• Programming abstractions and middleware for crowdsensing/crowdsourcing
applications
• Novel large-scale crowdsensing/crowdsourcing applications
Submitted papers must be original contributions that are unpublished and
are not currently under consideration for publication by other venues.
Submissions are limited to a maximum length of 6 pages and must adhere
to IEEE format (2 column, 10 pt font). Papers can be submitted via the
EDAS submission portal for CASPer 2018 (will be available soon).
Templates are available via the workshop website. Workshop papers will
be included and indexed in the IEEE digital libraries (Xplore). Note,
that each accepted workshop paper requires a full PerCom registration
(no registration is available for workshops only).
Important Dates:
• Submission deadline: November 11, 2017
• Author Notification: December 23, 2017

ACM CarSys 2017
The Second ACM International Workshop on Connected and Automated Vehicle
Mobility
A Workshop of MobiCom 2017, Snowbird, Utah, USA
October 16-20, 2017
*Scope*
CarSys 2017 seeks to present innovative and significant research on the
design, implementation, usage, and evaluation of intelligent vehicular
computing, communication and control systems, applications, and
services. The key themes of this workshop are two-fold:
Connected Vehicles: Based on short- and medium-range communications as
well as on cellular networks, vehicular inter-networking will enable
vehicular applications that improve road safety, energy efficiency,
optimizes traffic flow, as well as for infotainment purposes.
Intelligent Vehicles: As vehicles are equipped with more sensing and
computing capabilities, vehicles become more intelligent and are able to
accomplish a number of challenging tasks including autonomous driving.
We are currently witnessing the pursuit of high-performing, reliable,
scalable, secure, and privacy-preserving connected and automated vehicle
technologies, as well as associated mobility services. These ongoing
innovations present an extraordinary challenge for the research
community. The safety, real-time and security needs of vehicular systems
and their application scenarios make the study of these systems both
exciting and challenging. Goal-driven inter-disciplinary collaboration
among the automotive industry and academic research community is
increasingly seen as necessary. Furthermore, the connected and
intelligent vehicle research field has been a very active field of
research, development, standardization, and field trials. Throughout the
world, there are many national and international projects in government,
industry, and academia devoted to connected vehicles or autonomous
driving vehicles. Many relevant industry standards and consortia are
being created to prepare for the maturity of these emerging
technologies. CarSys 2017 brings together researchers from these
initiatives around the world to chart the way forward in this rapidly
evolving field.

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Special Section in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (IF=6.764) "From Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks to Industrial IoT"
Dear All,
Please find below a call for papers for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this announcement.

CALL FOR PAPER:
Special Section in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics "From Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks to Industrial IoT"
Deadline for manuscript submissions July 31, 2017 This CFP can be seen at the website of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics at http://tii.ieee-ies.org/.
The THEME
--------------
Ever-growing volume of data and information is being captured from systems, machines and devices and made available to IT systems. The information is processed on-the-fly enabling IT-based management systems to make decisions for real-time control of the manufacturing process. This data capturing and collection for IT systems is often referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). When adopted to the industrial automation systems where robustness, reliability, security and latency and jitters are highly desired performance requirements, it is often called Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Industrial communication systems today primarily consist of legacy systems such as HART, Foundation FIELDBUS, CAN and Profibus - well-working and established industry-specific networks installed in millions of systems. In the last decades, there has been a push for IP-based technology which has made Ethernet become a popular communication infrastructure. But to meet the stringent timing requirements of industrial applications, it has been necessary to implement real-time functionality. The communication plays a central role for the availability of all relevant information in real-time. Furthermore, it is indisputable that the mobility of objects involved in the production as well as the necessary flexibility of the production require wireless communication systems. The need for wireless communication is steadily increasing in many automation applications. In order to fully exploit the potentials offered by wireless communication for monitoring, control and automation applications, there is a further need for time-constrained communication protocols that provide bounded latency together with high reliability or energy efficiency. In addition, wireless automation applications need to interact with legacy wired communications systems and provide equivalent levels of security and dependability. Furthermore, industrial settings are highly dynamic environments which call for the ability to adapt to changes in the operating conditions while still not violating the time-constraints of the applications. Given the above scenarios, there is a need to disseminate, streamline and investigate research findings coming from several different application domains, namely from factory automation to industrial process monitoring and control, from traffic, environmental, building and structural monitoring to mobile robotics, from vehicular communication to energy management and healthcare applications. This need is especially driven by the industry interest in enabling large-scale wireless deployments for the sake of flexible, competitive and cost-efficient production.
The goal of this special section is to attract papers addressing the main research issues in design, development, adoption and applications of Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks and Industrial Internet-of-Things. IIoT provides a great opportunity to new gains in flexibility and productivity but also challenges as to how to merge existing installations to these new technologies.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
* Architecture and protocol design for industrial IoT systems
* 5G for future industrial automation
* Security, safety and privacy issues in industrial wireless networks and applications
* Deployment, integration and case studies of IWSN and IIoT
* Performance evaluation, simulation, RF measurements, and modeling of industrial IoT systems
* Embedded industrial IoT applications
* Intelligent M2M Communications in industrial IoT
* Cognitive IIoT
* Cloud-based IIoT solutions
The use of information technology also opens up new application areas for automation systems. Examples include but are not limited to:
* Smart Manufacturing and Web-of-Things in the factory line
* Process, Factory, Home and Building Automation
* Smart grids / Smart metering
* Industrial Robotics and Automation
* Smart and Connected Health
