ACM Conference on Information-Centric Networking 2018
Call for Papers
The 5th ACM conference on Information Centric Networking (ICN 2018) will
be held in Boston, MA, USA, Friday through Sunday, September 21-23,
2018. We are inviting submissions that describe significant research
contributions to ICN as broadly defined. The fundamental concept in
Information Centric Networking (ICN) is to provide the ability to access
named information as a principal service offered by the network,
evolving the Internet from today’s host based packet delivery towards
directly retrieving information objects and invoking services by name in
a secure, resilient, scalable, and efficient way. These architectural
design efforts aim to address the challenges that arise from the
increasing demands from accessing cloud resources, from accelerated
growth of mobile devices and edge computing, from wide deployment of
Internet-of-things (IoT), and from the need to secure the global
Internet. Papers pertaining to these and/or related fields are
specifically encouraged.
ACM ICN 2018 will be a single track conference focusing on current ICN
research topics, featuring paper presentations, posters, and demonstrations.
Topics of Interest
• Use of ICN for both legacy problems and novel use cases, including
but not limited to:
• Name-based access to fog/edge computing resources as well as to
cloud services
• Device and content mobility
• IoT and CPS (e.g., industrial IoT, smart city, smart homes,
vehicular communications)
• Network layer, mobility and architecture:
• Comparison of architectures, ICN styles and semantics
• Interdependency of namespace design, routing, and resource control
• ICN support for ad hoc and direct peer-to-peer communication
• ICN for high-speed networking
• Security:
• Privacy, both generally and especially its interaction with caching
• Trust management and access control
• IoT and CPS-specific security considerations
• Application layer, Evaluations and Testbeds: • ICN and
application-layer messaging and stream processing frameworks (e.g.,
Kafka, Flink, QUIC)
• APIs for transport, other higher-level abstractions, and their
assessment
• Experience from implementation, testbeds, and tools
• Critical analysis of previous research in ICN, including
reproducibility studies
• Methodology and metrics
• Translational Research:
• Deployments of ICN
• ICN for distributed computation, cloud-based services, edge
computing, database queries, big data manipulation as well as
ICN-mediated sensor/actuator control loops
• ICN and in-network computation (e.g., NFN and related approaches)
• ICN and SDN interactions
• ICN-inspired applications and systems
• Operations:
• Business and Economic models and their effects on deployability
• Management of ICN networks and systems
• Caching and its interaction with I/O performance
• Scalability analysis
• Traffic Engineering
• Implementation challenges and experiences
• Line speed caching
• Routing scalability
• Congestion control
• Zero configuration ICN

*Call for Papers*
Workshop on Location Systems for Management and Control of Mobile and
Wireless Networks (LocNet)
at ACM MobiSys 2018, Munich, Germany
*Submission deadline extended to March 23, 2018*
========================================================================
Wireless location systems have been studied extensively in recent years
and are advancing at a rapid pace. State-of-the-art location systems now
achieve very high levels of accuracy down to the decimeter-level and
below, even without dedicated positioning hardware. Positioning data can
bring dramatic benefits to mobile networks, not just for conventional
data analytics and location-based services running over the network, but
for the management and control of the network itself. Location
information can be used to optimize resource allocation and network
control decisions as networks become denser and support high-order MIMO
and wider bandwidths, which allows devices to accurately measure the
wireless environment. It is particularly relevant for emerging
technologies such as millimeter-wave communication systems, where the
antenna configuration, availability of paths, access points to associate
with, and the data rate strongly depend on the location of the devices
and on reflectors and obstacles in the environment. Location information
can also be used, for example, for anticipatory networking mechanisms in
mobile networks, where resource allocation decisions are based on the
predicted future state of the network and users. Localizing terminals,
people and things accurately and reliably allows to better deploy,
provision, and manage mobile and wireless networks, thus increasing
their reliability and scalability.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers from academia
and industry to present and discuss the latest developments in wireless
location systems, their impact on network management and control to
enhance the efficiency of communication networks, and the inherent
technical challenges. The program seeks original and unpublished work
not currently under review by another technical
journal/magazine/conference. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Location and positioning algorithms
- Positioning in mobile networks
- Millimeter-wave location systems
- Visible light location systems
- Anticipatory networking mechanisms based on location information
- Network management and control based on location information
- Network architectures and localization protocols to support use of

SPECIAL SESSIONS
Papers may be submitted either as regular papers or as special session
papers. The special sessions are the following.
GNSS Railway
Session conveners: Juliette Marais, IFSTTAR (FR), Omar Garcia Crespillo, DLR
(DE), Cosimo Stallo Radiolabs (IT)
Railways already relies on satellite-based localization systems but mostly
for non-safety related applications. However, driven by economic reasons,
the use of these systems for more stringent services and, in particular, in
signalling system is seriously investigated today and tested all around the
world.
The developments have made huge progress in the past years: from global
demonstration of concept to the development of elements of the systems
(hybrid localization units, integrity monitoring schemes, augmentation
systems
). A number of technical solutions have been developed and
demonstrated. Some real advances are noticed, in particular, in the ERTMS
framework, considering the use of GNSS-based virtual balises. But GNSS is
also investigated for other services such as train integrity.
The session will present the latest results and projects dealing with the
introduction of GNSS in the railways. Papers are expected to focus on
technical issues for performance enhancement as well as safety
demonstrations, experimental results of GNSS reception characterization or
operational system demonstration.
New challenges in wireless communications for Railways
Session conveners: M. Berbineau, IFSTTAR (FR), Ke Guan, BJTU (CN), José
Soler, DTU (DK)
To increase quality, reliability, safety and security of railway systems
while increasing accessibility and productivity, we observe ever increasing
fluxes of information between various stakeholders, central databases and
field devices widely distributed along infrastructures and inside trains.
This trend is accentuated by the development of automation and driverless
systems and autonomous trains. Robustness, reliability, high data rate,
spectral efficiency, optimization of radio resource usages, low latency and
low energy consumption are of significant interest for railway applications.
Evaluating the performance and new challenges of wireless communication
systems requires radio channel models for numerous propagation environments
and in very different frequencies (from 1 GHz to mmW for example).
Furthermore, dedicated antennas need to be developed with adequate
performance and placement. Innovative solutions at network level are also
needed (heterogeneous handover, new architecture, scheduling aspects, etc.)
and incorporation of new paradigms such as SDN or NFV, may impact current
service offer and enable new ones. Safety and security are also strong
requirements for wireless communications for railways including
cybersecurity.
The session will present the latest results and projects addressing these
challenges.
Maritime communications
Session conveners: Michele Fiorini, EIT (IT)
The purpose of the special session is to facilitate interactions between
university researchers, students, start-ups, NGOs, SMEs, industries and
administrations dealing within the maritime domain. The topics relevant to
the session spans from systems (CSS, EZZ protection, AIS, satellite
surveillance, e-NAV etc..) to services (SAR, VTS, VDES, Single Window -Port
Management-, anti-piracy, etc..) and all combinations. Innovative concepts
and practical applications are particularly welcome.
Reliability of vehicular communications
Session conveners: Jacek Rak, Gdansk University of Technology (PL)
The purpose of this special session is to enable discussions among
researchers from academia and industry on reliability of vehicular
communications, which still remains an extraordinary challenge especially
under unfavourable conditions. Special focus of the session is put on the
issue of delivery of data to intended receivers in accordance to
requirements of applications.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submission procedure:
Authors are invited to submit regular papers (7 pages) or demo abstracts (2
pages), describing original, previously unpublished research or demos, not
currently under review by another conference or journal. The submission is
done using the <https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=itst2018> Easy
Chair system. All accepted papers will be included in IEEE Xplore and will
be indexed by EI. Awards will be given to the best paper, the best student

CFP: 2nd International Workshop on Embedded and Mobile Deep Learning
WORKSHOP co-located with ACM MobiSys 2018
MUNICH, GERMANY - 15TH JUNE 2018
https://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2018/workshops/deepmobile18/
CALL FOR PAPERS
In recent years, breakthroughs from the field of deep learning have
transformed how sensor data (e.g., images, audio, and even
accelerometers and GPS) can be interpreted to extract the high-level
information needed by bleeding-edge sensor-driven systems like
smartphone apps and wearable devices. Today, the state-of-the-art in
computational models that, for example, recognize a face, track user
emotions, or monitor physical activities are increasingly based on deep
learning principles and algorithms. Unfortunately, deep models typically
exert severe demands on local device resources and this conventionally
limits their adoption within mobile and embedded platforms. As a result,
in far too many cases existing systems process sensor data with machine
learning methods that have been superseded by deep learning years ago.
Because the robustness and quality of sensory perception and reasoning
is so critical to mobile computing, it is critical for this community to
begin the careful study of two core technical questions. First, how
should deep learning learning principles and algorithms be applied to
sensor inference problems that are central to this class of computing?
This includes a combination of applications of learning some of which
are familiar to other domains (such as the processing image and audio),
in addition to those more uniquely tied to wearable and mobile systems
(e.g., activity recognition). Second, what is required for current --
and future -- deep learning innovations to be either simplified or
efficiently integrated into a variety of mobile resource-constrained
systems? At heart, this MobiSys 2018 co-located workshop aims to
consider these two broad themes; more specific topics of interest,
include, but are not limited to:
= Compression of Deep Model Architectures
= Neural-based Approaches for Modeling User Activities and Behavior
= Quantized and Low-precision Neural Networks (including Binary Networks)
= Mobile Vision supported by Convolutional and Deep Networks
= Optimizing Commodity Processors (GPUs, DSPs etc.) for Deep Models
= Audio Analysis and Understanding through Recurrent and Deep Architectures
= Hardware Accelerators for Deep Neural Networks
= Distributed Deep Model Training Approaches = Applications of Deep
Neural Networks with Real-time Requirements
= Deep Models of Speech and Dialog Interaction or Mobile Devices
= Partitioned Networks for Improved Cloud- and Processor-Offloading
= Operating System Support for Resource Management at Inference-time
FULL PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Solicited submissions include: full technical workshop papers,
descriptions of work-in-progress, and white position papers. Maximum
length of such submissions is 6 pages, and if accepted they will be
published by ACM and appear in the ACM Digital Library.
