Wireless networking technologies are continuously evolving and have become a critical part of modern life, be it for communication services, media distribution or sensing and actuation services within the Internet of things context. To provide users with high quality of experience in multimedia communication and distribution, especially under moderate to high utilization, appropriate resource management and architectural networking paradigms are necessary. At the same time, Internet of Things environments, wearable computing and sensors, support a diverse range of application domains and services, providing rich sets of measurements for characterizing, detecting, and understanding complex behaviors and systems and enabling feedback mechanisms that allow to control such systems. These are some of the challenges that are of interest to IEEE WoWMoM 2020. The IEEE WoWMoM 2020 conference takes a broad view and seeks papers describing innovative research contributions to the field of mobile and wireless networking and applications. Papers that present original work, validated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. Practical experiences and experimental efforts from both industry and academia, duly documenting the lessons learned from testbeds, field-trials, or real deployments, are also welcome. WORK IN PROGRESS PAPERS Work-in-progress papers provide a peer-reviewed forum for late-breaking or preliminary research results, giving an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present and demonstrate their recent research, and to obtain feedback from their peers in an informal setting. Work-in-progress papers submissions may be up to 4 pages in length (including figures and references) and must have a prefix “Short:” in the title of the paper ACCEPTED PAPERS For accepted papers, attendance and presentation by one of the authors is mandatory. Submission implies the willingness of at least one author to attend the conference and present the paper. Accepted papers will be included in the proceedings of IEEE WoWMoM 2020 and available through IEEE Xplore. All conference proceedings must meet IEEE's quality standards, and IEEE reserves the right not to publish any proceedings that do not meet these standards. Task offloading technology can break through the resource limitations of IoT devices, reduce the computing load and improve the task processing efficiency. Optimizing DNNs through task offloading has become a new direction in edge intelligence research. Deep learning driven approaches can facilitate offloading decision making, dynamic resource allocation and content caching, benefit in coping with the growth in volumes of communication and computation for emerging IoT applications. However, how to customize deep learning techniques for task offloading in IoTs is still under discussion. Learning algorithms in edge computing are still immature and inefficient. The goal of the IOIoT Workshop is devoted to the most recent developments of intelligent offloading technologies for IoT and and edge computing. Industry experience reports and empirical studies are also welcome. We aim to bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss the latest advancements and identify further challenges for task offloading in IoTs that must be overcome. Best, Michele Polese, Marco Giordani, Michele Zorzi ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Session – Future trends for standardization and design of vehicular networks Recent evolution of the automotive industry have enabled the development of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs), with the goal to promote increased traffic efficiency and enhanced safety for vehicles and pedestrians. Wireless networks can fully unleash the potential of CAVs by promoting cooperation among vehicles and the fixed infrastructure on roads and highways, and this has motivated the study of different technologies for vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications (also jointly referred to as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networking). As of today, the two main radio technologies that support V2X communications are 3GPP Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) and IEEE 802.11p. These, however, will not completely fulfill the foreseen challenging requirements (in terms of, e.g., ultra low latency, and ultra high reliability and throughput) of future vehicular services. This motivates the design and analysis of next-generation V2I and V2V networks, with the introduction of new, more capable technologies. In this regard, the 3GPP and the IEEE are presenting new study items, specifications and standard drafts on future vehicular networks. 3GPP NR-V2X extends the specifications of 3GPP NR to support sidelink communications, and integrates in vehicular networks the flexibility of the NR frame, protocol stack and spectrum usage. Similarly, IEEE 802.11bd targets communications in the usual 5.9 GHz band, but also in the unlicensed mmWave spectrum. The usage of a heterogeneous set of spectrum bands and technologies (sub-6 GHz, mmWaves, VLC) could benefit future connected services, but, at the same time, introduces the need for new research and standardization efforts that range from channel modeling, to the design of the full-protocol stack, with challenges at the physical, MAC, network and transport layers. This special session aims at collecting original contributions that can advance the state of the art on the design challenges for V2X networks, with a focus on three main areas of interest. First of all, we look forward to submissions that discuss 3GPP and IEEE standardization efforts, as well as of new services, applications, business models and trials of V2X networks. Second, it is of particular interest the analysis and design of channel models, physical layer, beam and/or mobility management, resource allocation, network and transport layer schemes for next-generation V2X, with a focus also on mmWave and VLC communications. Finally, this special session welcomes papers on the application of learning techniques in vehicular scenarios, and on security and privacy concerns for V2X, especially if linked to standard proposals and developments.
