Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the 3rd IEEE Workshop on Ultra-high
speed, Low latency and Massive Communication for Futuristic 6G Networks
(ULMC6GN) will be held on 7-11 June 2020, in Dublin, Ireland (with IEEE
ICC 2020). The workshop website is available at
[https://icc2020.ieee-icc.org/workshop/ws-15-workshop-ultra-high-speed-low-l…]
---------------------------------------------------
Scope and Topics of Interest
---------------------------------------------------
The International workshop on Ultra-high speed, Low latency and Massive
Communication for futuristic 6G Networks (ULMC6GN) will take place
during IEEE ICC 2020 in Dublin, Ireland, on June 11, 2020. The goal of
the workshop is to solicit the recent developments in ultra high speed,
low latency, and massive connectivity communication with a vision of
their potential advancement into beyond 5G and towards 6G.
Considering the great success of the 1st and 2nd Workshops on
“Ultra-High Speed, Low Latency and Massive Connectivity Communication
for 5G & B5G” at Globecom 2018 and WCNC 2019, we aim to organize the 3rd
Workshop on “Ultra-high speed, Low latency and Massive Communication for
futuristic 6G Networks (ULMC6GN)” in ICC 2020 to bring together academic
researchers, industrial practitioners, and individuals working on this
emerging exciting research areas to share their new ideas, latest
findings, identify and discuss potential use cases, open research
problems, technical challenges, and solution methods in this context.
Today’s wireless services and systems have come a long way since the
rollout of the conventional voice-centric cellular systems. The demand
for wireless access in voice and multimedia applications has increased
tremendously. In addition to these, new application classes, such as
enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) communication, ultra-reliable and low
latency communications (uRLLC), massive machine type communications
(mMTC), and the Internet of Things (IoT), have gained significant
interest recently for 5G wireless networks. The trend on the variety and
the number of mobile devices along with the mobile applications will
certainly continue beyond 5G, creating a wide range of technical
challenges like cost, power efficiency, spectrum efficiency, extreme
reliability, low latency, robustness against diverse channel conditions,
cooperative networking capability and coexistence, dynamic and flexible
utilization of wireless spectrum, etc. In order to address these
technical challenges, 5G waveforms and radio access technologies (RATs)
should be much more flexible. In the enhanced Mobile Broadband scenario,
the user experienced data rate (from 100 Mbit/s, in urban and sub-urban
areas, to 1 Gbit/s, in indoor cases) – defined as achievable data rate
that is available ubiquitously across the related considered target
coverage area to a mobile user/device – has the highest importance,
especially in hotspots. In the massive machine type communication
scenario, the high connection density (up to 10^6/km2), very high link
budget as well as long battery life time are the most important
parameter. For the ultra-reliable low latency communication scenarios,
low latency (ms level) and reliability (five nines, and beyond) together
with zero mobility interruption gab are of highest importance, e.g. in
order to connect cars, in some high mobility cases, drones or mobile
service robots.
Therefore, this workshop aims at presenting the most relevant scenarios,
prominent research outcomes and state-of-the-art advances of 5G related
to ultra-reliable low latency communication. Only technical papers
describing previously unpublished, original, state-of-the-art research,
and not currently under review by a conference or a journal will be
considered. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the
following:
-Integrated Aerial/Terrestrial Networks
-6G wireless networks
-Connected and Autonomous Aerial Networks
-AI & Data Analytics in Intelligent, Adaptive, and Efficient Networks of
2030s

processing. While Fog Computing provides a wide range of possible
application areas, many important fundamental research questions have
not been covered in depth yet. Therefore, it is the goal of the
KuVS-Fachgespräch Fog Computing to identify research issues arising by
the volatility of IoT-based smart systems, and the potentially very
quickly changing system landscapes, and to identify how concrete
research contributions in the field of Fog Computing can help to
overcome these issues.
To achieve this, researchers from different subfields of computer
science and related areas are invited to present their thoughts and
ideas in the field of Fog Computing, including, but not limited to
research in the fields of:
* Networking aspects to enable Fog Computing
* Protocols and algorithms for distributed Fog Computing systems
* Cloud Computing
* Internet of Things
* Software engineering methodologies for Fog Computing systems
* Cyber-Physical Systems and embedded systems in Fog Computing
* Blockchains and the Fog
* Service models and service management for the Fog
* Reliability and performance engineering for the Fog
* Privacy and security considerations in Fog Computing
* User interaction and usability in Fog Computing
* Optimization problems and optimization algorithms in Fog Computing
* Other related computing paradigms like edge computing, dew computing,
and mist computing

===========================
The 3rd Workshop on Edge Systems, Analytics and Networking
(EdgeSys'20) co-located
with ACM EuroSys 2020
April 27-30, 2020 | Heraklion, Crete, Greece
https://edge-sys.github.io/2020/
===========================
Given the growing demand for real-time gathering and processing of vast
amount of data from data-intensive services such as autonomous driving and
augmented reality (AR), we are witnessing a visible trend to push computing
and data analytics closer to the edge of networks for benefits in low
latency, reliability, throughput, security and privacy. Supported by
lightweight virtualization technologies such as Docker Containers and
Unikernels, the decentralized edge computing paradigm aims to offer
efficient access to various geographically distributed computing resources.
In this context, the EdgeSys workshop focuses on the confluence of edge
computing, decentralized communication and distributed computing. For
example, there are several industry-led edge computing and orchestration
platforms such as KubeEdge, Firecracker, and Azure Sphere. In the
decentralized communication space, systems such as Mastodon and Matrix have
been developed. There are also lots of academic research activities on
mobile data and computation offloading (e.g., Cloudlet, Talket, ThinkAir,
MAUI, and MADNet) and systems that combine decentralization and
computation/storage offloading together, such as IPFS. In addition, as data
analytics and machine learning are increasingly offered as a service, the
next phase of evolution is to extend the offerings beyond basic algorithms
and push the analytics closer to the edge where the data from users and
devices is first captured. In this regard, edge computing has the potential
to enable a new class of real-time data analytics platforms and services.
We expect such edge-driven data analytics will emerge and reshape the
existing cloud-based data processing pipelines. The knowledge from this new
edge pipeline can further power future cyber-physical and network services,
such as cognitive assistance and proactive accident prevention for
autonomous driving.
The 3rd Workshop on Edge Systems, Analytics, and Networking (EdgeSys'20)
aims to bring together system researchers, data scientists, engineers and
practitioners to identify open directions and discuss the latest research
ideas and results on edge systems, analytics, and networking, especially
those related to novel and emerging technologies and use cases. EdgeSys
focuses on systems, analytics, and networking aspects, covering system
architecture, distributed ML algorithms, decentralized networking,
distributed consensus and ledger techniques, edge services and data
analysis.
The topics include but are not limited to the following:
- System Architecture for Edge Computing
- Serverless and In-network Computing (P4)
- Edge Storage Systems
- Edge-driven Data Analytics
- Distributed Machine Learning for Edge Analytics and Services
- Edge Security and Privacy
- Lightweight Virtualization for Edge Computing
- Distributed Consensus Algorithms and Ledger Technologies
- Infrastructure and Toolkit for Edge Computing and Analytics
- System Performance and Measurement
- Edge Networking and IoT Communications
