==========================================
Dear Colleagues,
You are cordially invited to submit your latest research results to the
IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on “AI-Enabled Internet of
Dependable and Controllable Things”
Advances in information communication technologies have given rise to
the Internet of Things (IoT) that will
play an increasingly important role in our daily lives. In IoT, the
massive number of deployed IoT devices
(sensors, actuators, etc.) will be connected to collect data related to
energy, transportation, city infrastructure,
manufacturing, healthcare, and public safety, among others, supporting
numerous smart-world systems. Moreover,
Industry 4.0 will be supported by smart manufacturing and Industrial
IoT, which enable the interconnection of
industrial sensors, actuators, and control systems to improve
productivity, resource efficiency, intelligence
and dependability in industrial manufacturing.
At the same time, machine learning has shown significant success in
transforming massive and complex datasets
into highly accurate knowledge as output, which can greatly facilitate
analysis, intelligence, decision-making,
and automation across diverse systems. Combined with advances in big
data analytics, big computing, and big
networking technologies, machine learning provides a mechanism for
carrying out big modeling and intelligence,
and has achieved great success in a number of fields. Despite these
achievements, the leveraging of machine
learning in IoT faces significant challenges to achieving artificial
intelligence-enabled Internet of dependable
and controllable things, and must take into account the exceptional
requirements for connectivity, latency,
scalability, accessibility, security, and resiliency that IoT systems
pose. The seamless integration of machine
learning into IoT systems thus creates opportunities for novel research
and necessitates interdisciplinary
efforts to solve these challenges.
The papers in this special issue will focus on state-of-the-art research
and challenges in the foundations and applications
of synergizing machine learning in IoT. In this special issue, we shall
solicit papers that cover numerous topics of
interest that include, but are not limited to:
* Machine learning for theoretical foundation and models for IoT
* Machine learning for IoT system deployment and operation
* Machine learning for IoT assisted industrial automation
* Machine learning-enabled real-time IoT data analytics
* Machine learning-enabled sensing and decision-making for IoT
* Machine learning-enabled ultra-low latency and highly reliable
communication for IoT
* Machine learning-enabled cloud/edge computing systems for IoT
* Evaluation platforms and hardware-in-the-loop testbeds for machine
learning-enabled IoT
* Machine learning for IoT security and privacy

1st International Workshop on "Intelligent Things and Services"
(InThingS 2020)
http://inthings2020.unict.it
Jointly held with IEEE WoWMoM 2020, Cork, Ireland, 31 August - 3
September 2020
The conference will be held virtually, if holding a physical gathering
reveals to be difficult because of COVID-19 pandemic.
http://www.cs.ucc.ie/wowmom2020/
Building on the success of eight editions of the IEEE Workshop on the
Internet of Things: Smart Objects and Services (IoT-SoS), this year we
propose a workshop that looks ahead towards a vibrant future where a new
level of awareness arises from the IoT devices thanks to context,
cooperation, and federation, leading to a new revolution of Intelligent
Things and Services (InThingS) that will re-shape technology and society.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is shaping the evolution of the future
Internet by connecting people anytime and everywhere, as well as
inanimate objects. By providing objects with embedded communication
capabilities and a common addressing scheme, a highly distributed and
ubiquitous network of seamlessly connected heterogeneous devices is
formed, which can be fully integrated into the current Internet and
mobile networks, thus allowing for the development of new intelligent
services available anytime, anywhere, by anyone and anything. This year
we want to shed light on the use of machine learning tools to support
services and perform resource management in intelligent IoT scenarios.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for
discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory,
application, and implementation of the Internet of Things concept with a
specific focus on the use of machine learning and/or artificial
intelligence techniques on technologies, protocols, algorithms, and
services.
Many applications with high social and business impact fall under the
IoT umbrella, including personal healthcare, smart grid, surveillance,
home automation, intelligent transportation, while it is expected that
new ones will emerge once the enabling technologies reach a stable
state. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel ML/AI for IoT devices and services: applications, services,
business processes, and enabling standards and technologies
- ML/AI techniques for devices with limited capabilities in terms of
computation, memory, storage, connectivity or energy, e.g., compressed
models and federated learning
- Distributed cloud technologies and algorithms; in-network computing
- System architectures and reference platforms enabling intelligent
things and services
- Modeling and simulation of large-scale scenarios of IoT devices and
services with embedded intelligence
- Testbeds, prototypes, and pilots for evaluation of intelligent things
and services in a realistic environment
- Solutions to increases trust in IoT devices and services: security,
privacy, governance, ownership, and accuracy of data and interactions
- Ethical issues with regard to the increasing intelligence of IoT
devices and services and their large-scale adoption
- Flexible and dynamic distribution of intelligence in the
thing-to-cloud continuum
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for
discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory,
application and implementation of the Internet of Things concept:
Technologies, protocols, algorithms, and services.

Dear All,
We encourage submissions towards the 3rd Workshop on Networking for
Emerging Applications and Technologies (NEAT 2020), due 17th Apr 2020,
which will be held on 10th August 2020, in conjunction with ACM Sigcomm
2020.
The scope of the workshop is wide range of topics relating to networks
and communication considerations for new and emerging verticals. The
best-effort Internet of today is well suited for traditional terminals
and web-based applications. However, in large number of emerging
applications, the tolerance to network delays, packet losses or outages
is extremely low, instead guarantees from the network for precise
per-packet delivery become necessary. Hologram-based applications are a
natural progression to the evolution of media. The current network
infrastructures just barely meet the demands of high bandwidth and low
latency combined together for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality
(VR) but networked-holograms require a paradigm shift in a media
communication methodology.
The specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
-Architecture and frameworks for delivering high precision of services
- Convergence and optimizations of network protocols for Industrial and
Tactile networks
- Investigations, survey and techniques in data plane for Industrial and
Tactile internet.
- Scheduling in networks for high-precision applications
- Mechanisms to support ultra-low-latency in packet based networks
- Verification and proof of service delivery in high-precision networks
- Maximizing link utilization for high-throughput applications
- Architecture and protocols for reliable and lossless packet delivery
- Network security and privacy issues in Industrial and Tactile internet
- Resource allocation mechanisms for deterministic, reliable and
lossless data transmission
- Requirements and challenges in Holographic type communications -
Networking requirements and challenges of VR/AR
- Media formats for holographic type communications
- Methods for transmission of multi-sensory holographic media
- High-throughput transport for VR/AR and Holographic type communications
- Adaptive video streaming for network/user dynamics
- Video analytics and smart offloading for VR/AR
- Measurement study of existing VR/AR and HTC applications
## PAPER FORMAT AND SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
We welcome the submission of both full technical papers, demos and
“visionary” position papers.
Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and not under
consideration at another conference or journal. Submitted papers must
use the new ACM template (using sigconf document type) from the 2018 ACM
consolidated template package (you can also use this barebone LaTeX
template). The font size must be 9 points. The length of the final paper
with all its content except references must not exceed 6 pages. Papers
must include author’s names and affiliations for single-blind peer
reviewing by the PC. Authors of accepted papers are expected to present
their papers at the workshop. https://sigcomm20neat.hotcrp.com.

The Internet of Things (IoT) and related future networking concepts
promise the ubiquitous availability of data. Applications can aggregate
and evaluate relevant sets of data, and they can provide highly
flexible, context-aware services, which can interact with each other and
form a new type of emergent behavior.
The workshop addresses current research related to the implementation
and realization of future IoT applications and systems. Particular focus
is put on concepts, tools, and the toolchain, that is required for this
endavor. Furthermore, flexible right management, capability and
performance profiles, and request evaluation for dynamically composed
IoT settings will be targeted. We want to discuss how to realize
abstract representations of these aspects in order to automatically
react on adapted requests, changed network configurations, or system states.

New conference dates: September 21-23rd, 2020
New submission deadline: June 6th, 2020
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-enabled solutions are becoming very
popular. UAVs (or drones) are attractive owing to their
flexibility and potential cost-efficiency in comparison with
conventional aircraft. Drones are perceived as game changers and
development enablers since they may be used to deploy and optimize the
network to improve its coverage, build routes and fix network partition
to ensure the best communication performance, reduce energy consumption,
and dynamically respond to detected network problems. The benefits are
limited only by imagination.
This special session welcomes contributions dealing with all facets of
wireless communication with drones, including channel modeling,
integration into cellular networks (4G, 5G, and b5G), system aspects,
theoretical studies, algorithm and protocol design, as well as
requirements, constraints, and regulations. We are particularly looking
for papers reporting on experimental results of deployed systems,
summaries of challenges or advancements, measurements, and innovative
applications. The primary focus of this session will be on civilian
applications of drones.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- UAV integration in Cellular and Vehicular Networks
- Path/trajectory planning
- Radio resource management for UAV communications
- Interference management, localization and positioning for UAVs
- Backhaul for aerial BS (UAVs)
- Visible Light Communication with UAVs
- Channel modeling and propagation (Air-to-Air, Air-to-Ground)
- 5G and b5G, mmWave and Massive MIMO for drones
- UAVs for IoT applications
- MEC schemes for UAV-enabled networks
- Testbeds, demonstrations, field trials, and prototyping
- Machine learning for UAV communications
- Economical frameworks for UAV communications (e.g., cost studies,

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
================================================
IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing
Special Issue on Energy-Efficient Edge Computing
================================================
Submission deadline (EXTENDED): April 15, 2020
The future increase in the amount of data and workloads generated by
Internet
of Things (IoT) devices and connected sensors will lead to the necessity to
move computational nodes from the cloud data centers closer to the data
source,
i.e., at the edge of the cloud, for reduced latency. An edge system is
composed
of any computing and networking resources along the path between data
sources
and cloud data centers. Depending on the specific computing needs, edge
computing devices can use either a wireless or a wired connection to
exchange
messages with the data sources. IoT devices and sensors can then exploit the
hierarchical structure of the edge and cloud system to analyze the collected
data and provide useful information to users in a timely manner. For
example,
wearable sensors could use the computing resources of the user’s smartphone,
laptop, or even smart vehicle to analyze the collected data. Because a large
majority of edge devices are battery operated and have limited connectivity,
the energy efficiency of computation becomes critical. To this end, it is
important to minimize the energy consumption of all the components of an
edge
system, including sensors, IoT devices, edge nodes, and network devices
while
guaranteeing the desired performance. For this special issue we solicit
original experimental, conceptual, and theoretical contributions on the
following topics related to energy-efficient edge computing:
- energy-aware application placement and offloading
- energy-aware resource management
- energy-aware data management
- energy-aware edge2cloud coordination
- energy-aware sensing for edge computing systems
- energy-efficient hardware architectures for edge computing and devices
- energy-efficient edge computing for AI applications
- energy-efficient edge computing applications
- edge computing powered by distributed renewable energy resources
- energy-efficient vehicular edge computing
- energy-efficient edge computing for autonomous robots
- energy-efficient networks for edge computing
