The first workshop, WiNMee 2005, was held in Lago di Gardi, Italy, and was highly successful with 32 submissions and 13 accepted papers. This year we hope to build on the success of last year by bringing researchers together to discuss the next generation of wireless network measurement research. Wireless networking has attracted much recent interest. Nonetheless, performance evaluation of wireless protocols, networks, and applications are still largely based on simulations. Only recently have researchers turned their attention to measuring real-world networks; building models based on real-world data, and using testbeds to more realistically evaluate their proposed ideas. Accurate network measurements have proven to be a different and a greater challenge than in wired networks. Accurate data models that reflect the unique characteristics of wireless networks have also proven to be more of a challenge. Wireless network testbeds have proven to be yet another difficult environments in which to work due to the many unique properties of the wireless medium. For example, results in wireless testbeds are often difficult to reproduce due to performance variations caused by location, weather, time of day, and other uncontrollable external variables. Testbeds are also challenging because implementing novel solutions often requires significant changes to the network as well as careful observation and measurement. The committee for WiNMee 2006 is soliciting 6 page papers that report on experiences obtained from operational wireless experiments, either in testbeds or in the field. Mobile distributed computing has emerged as a discipline of distributed systems research and practice toward support for mobility. It is concerned with creating solutions using mobile communication networks and mobile computing devices to enable the sharing of distributed resources/services and to facilitate remote collaborations while people work away from the fixed, wired facilities. MDC 2006 is the fourth in series. Following the success of the first three editions -- MDC 2003 in Rhode Island, USA, MDC 2004 in Tokyo, Japan, and MDC 2005 in Columbus, USA -- MDC 2006 provides a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and industry to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas, and research results about all aspects of mobile distributed computing. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to: - Architectures and systems for mobile distributed computing - Distributed applications in mobile environments - Distributed algorithms for mobile computing - Synchronization and coordination in mobile environments - Networking protocols for distributed mobile computing - Cooperating mobile agents - Environments, middleware and tools for mobile distributed computing - Operating system support for mobile distributed computing - Fault tolerance and security in mobile distributed environments - Real-time issues in mobile distributed computing - Context-aware services and applications - Sensor networks and RFID technologies - Mobile cluster computing - Mobile Peer-to-Peer computing - Resource/service sharing and management in mobile distributed environments - Mobile distributed transactions - Modelling and performance evaluation of mobile distributed systems PAPER SUBMISSION MDC 2006 invites authors to submit original and unpublished works. Papers must be written in English and should not exceed 6 pages in IEEE proceedings style. Authors should submit a PostScript (level 2) or PDF file that will print on a PostScript printer by e-mail to mdc06(a)ing.unipi.it. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. Accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press in the combined IEEE WoWMoM 2006 Workshops proceedings. Various researches have been carried out for mesh-based mobile networks, where an end-to-end path from the source to the destination always exists. The workshop environment encourages lively discussion among participants and invites strong feedback for work in progress. In 2006, NOSSDAV will be held in Newport, Rhode Island. The beautiful harbor front location is home to sailing, beaches, golfing, biking, and fishing. NOSSDAV invites submissions on all areas of multimedia computing and networking and strongly encourages work in progress in emerging areas. Papers grounded in high-quality experimental research based on prototype and real systems are highly valued. Additionally, papers proposing new directions for research or calling into question existing conventional wisdom are welcomed. This year, NOSSDAV will give extra consideration to papers where the source code to experimental or real systems is released. And, NOSSDAV will also give extra consideration to papers that aim to comprehensively validate previous work in some topic within multimedia. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Peer-to-peer streaming * Networked games * Sensor networks and architectures * In-network stream processing * Wireless and mobile multimedia systems * 3D multimedia and tele-immersion * Streaming 3D graphics and virtual worlds * Application-level multicast * Multimedia security * Digital rights management * Real-time operating system support for multimedia * Multimedia middleware and frameworks A broad view will be taken in deciding what topics are within scope. Please feel free to contact the workshop co-chairs if you are unsure and wish to check if a particular paper or topic is within the workshop scope. As always, student participation is strongly encouraged. To encourage a good mix of seasoned researchers as well as students, we will be offering discounted registration for student members who attend with their faculty advisor. Submissions (as well as the camera ready final versions of accepted papers) should be no longer than 6 pages. We expect these submissions to be the kernel of what will eventually lead to full-length papers at high-quality conferences or journals.
