The measurement of IP network performance has been the subject of a
significant amount of recent research. The ultimate goal is to
provide Internet service providers, as well as end-users, sufficient
understanding of end-to-end network performance characteristics,
routing behavior and network anomalies. This understanding is
important for developing new network models, protocols, and resource
optimization required to assure an acceptable quality of service.
However, the ever changing traffic mix in the Internet, the appearance
of peer-to-peer applications, and the increasing demand for mobility
represent new challenges for IP performance management. Performance
measurement involves a number of steps including monitoring, sampling,
filtering, and analyzing data on-line/off-line and from many
local/remote points.
This special issue is seeking original and unpublished contributions
addressing issues related to IP performance monitoring and analysis
for enterprise networks and the Internet. Of particular interest are
novel monitoring and measurement techniques that improve the
state-of-the-art in data collection; experiments that collect,
analyze, and make available data for use by other researchers; and
analysis of data collected from local or wide area networks that give
insights into Internet behavior. Examples of selected topics include
but are not limited to:
. IP measurements and monitoring
. Measurement methods, tools and infrastructures
. Measuring voice and video performance over IP
. Traffic engineering and measurement of traffic matrices
. Workload characterization and traffic analysis
. Web, peer-to-peer and overlay networks measurements
. Active and passive measurement techniques
. Design of monitoring systems
. Path measurements and filtering
. Measurements of mobility and grid services
. Sampling and filtering techniques
. Network/Internet topology discovery
. SLA and Quality of Service monitoring
. Network security attack analysis
. Experimental test beds and results
. Reassessment of previous measurement findings
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Guidelines on formatting the paper are given at
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/comcom. Authors are invited to
submit full original papers in electronic form (PDF or postscript)
to one of the guest editors.

Workshop
"Internet Compatible QoS in Ad hoc Wireless Networks"
IC-QAWN

in Conjunction with
The 3rd ACS/IEEE International Conference on
Computer Systems and Applications - January 2005
AICCSA-05
http://engr.smu.edu/cse/AICCSA-05/
January 3-6, 2005, Cairo, Egypt
As everyday the realization of 4th generation wireless
networks becomes more conceivable at various levels,
questions arise as to how various wireless
heterogeneities might be overcome. For different access
technologies, the Internet has been taken as the
unifying framework for interconnectivity and inherent
mobility and resource management functionalities.
Recently, serious attention has been given extending
and utilizing Internet connectivity and QoS for ad hoc
networks. Naturally, paradigm QoS techniques (IntServ
& RSVP, DiffServ, MPLS) cannot be readily applied to
ad hoc networks. Hence the need for QoS techniques
compatible with traditional Internet QoS while
maintaining realistic considerations for the
characterstics of ad hoc networks.
Call for Papers
Scope
In a wireless ad hoc network hosts are brought together
to form a network on the fly. Inherently, there is a
lack for QoS-aware protocols. Currently, two
operational quality of service (QoS) models are proposed
for the Internet: Integrated Services (IntServ) aided
with Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), and
Differentiated Services (DiffServ). The IntServ model
aims to guarantee the QoS in a manner of end-to-end fine
granularity, but its scalability is impaired by the need
to maintain per-flow state at each core router. The
DiffServ model attempts to resolve the scalability
problem by replacing the per-flow service with an
aggregate-class, per hop service, while pushing the per-
flow state management to edge routers . Extending such
QoS paradigms to wireless ad hoc networks is an important
step towards achieving all-IP networking. A major
challenge facing the extension of Internet QoS models
over ad hoc networks is the very characteristic of such
networks: a) Variable topology, resulting from nodal
mobility in addition to the unreliable link properties
caused by frequent packet collisions and signal
interference and fading; b) Limited battery power and
c) Device heterogeneity, in terms of platform, processing,
mobility and battery power.
We seek papers addressing Intserv and DiffServ compatible
QoS in wireless ad hoc networks. Papers should describe
original, previously unpublished work, not currently
under review by another conference, workshop or journal.
Topics of Intrest
Include, but are not limited to:
QoS admission control
Adaptive QoS
Bandwidth reservation schemes
RSVP extensions to ad hoc networks
Queue management and scheduling algorithms
Extensions to DiffServ Per hop behavior
Wireless MPLS
Resource adaptation and system optimization for multimedia
services
Dynamic bandwidth management
QoS-aware medium access protocols
IEEE 802.11 QoS extensions
Power-aware techniques and protocols
Cross-layer designs
TCP extensions
Mobility management
Delay and jitter management
Congestion and flow control
Performance evaluation
Implementation and test-bed experiments

MGC2004 - 2nd International Workshop on Middleware for Grid Computing
in conjunction with the 5th International Middleware Conference 2004
Toronto, Ontario, Canada - October 18th, 2004
http://mgc2004.lncc.br
=========== CALL FOR PAPERS ===========
History: The first edition of this workshop (MGC2003) was held on June
17th 2003,
in conjunction with the Middleware Conference, in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. MGC2003
saw a good combination of the many different flavors in Middleware for
Grid Computing,
with 16 technical presentations and discussions on several stimulating
topics
including, among the others, Classic Grids, object oriented
technologies, Service-
based Grids, Open grid Service Architecture, Agent Grid, Interactive
Grid, Grid
Economy / Scheduling, and Portlets. After the event, extended and
thoroughly revised versions of the papers were invited to a Special
Issue of Concurrency and Computation Practice and Experience Journal -
Vol.16 N.5 2004. The first workshop generated
substantial interest in the community and we hope to build on this
tradition this
year. Far from exhausting the topics of interest, MGC2003 paved the way
for a second
edition of the workshop, that will continue the most interesting and
stimulating
topics emerged last year, and also include some novel issues.
Description: Much of the focus of Grid until recently has been within
research
organizations. Currently the involvement of commercial organization has
increased tremendously. That leads to a greater focus on integration
with commercial computing
models and more work on the security and resource management models
required for
automated and secure access negotiation for remote resources. In order
to control
such a broad base of resources, Grid Computing has a middleware layer
which controls
the distributed execution of applications.
In this Workshop we would encourage researchers from the various GRID
middleware
communities to submit and present original work for publication.
Overall topics of
interest include but are not limited to:
Classic Grid Middleware
Object Oriented technologies or Component Middleware
WSRF/OGSA/Web services
Grid Middleware Architectures
Grid Services
Grid Middleware Security
Resource Management and Scheduling
Strategies and protocols for obtaining QoS
Semantic Grid Middleware
Managing Information in Grid Middleware
Grid Object Metadata and Schemas
Programming Models, Tools, and Environments
Performance Evaluation and Modeling
Evolution of and experiences with Grid systems
Wireless Grids
Data Grid Middleware
Dependability and Fault Tolerance in Grids
Virtualization in Grids
Paper Submission: The Workshop on Middleware for Grid Computing invites
authors to
submit original and unpublished work. Papers should not exceed 4-6
single-spaced
pages of text using 10 point size type on A4 paper. Authors should
submit a PostScript (level 2) or PDF file that will print on a
PostScript printer. Submission implies
the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present
the paper.
All selected papers for are peer-reviewed and will be published in the
ACM Digital
Library. Selected (extended) papers will be invited to a special issue
of Concurrency
and Computation: Practice and Experience Journal for 2005. Some papers
may be selected
to be presented as posters. Electronic only submission.
Important Dates: Paper Submissions: July 10th, 2004

CALL FOR PAPERS
JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
http://www.cstp.umkc.edu/jnsm/
Special Issue on Self-Managing Systems and Networks
Submission Deadline: June 30, 2004
Recent activities in distributed processing and network management aim
at building
self-managing and self-organizing computing systems and networks. Their
goal is to
automate some or all of the tasks typically carried out by an
administrator or
management system. This concept takes the distributed management
paradigm one step
further by providing managed resources with a very high degree of
autonomy.
Self-managing systems will be able to detect failures or performance
degradations,
initiate diagnostic procedures, and carry out corrective actions on
their own.
Their ability to discover changes in the environment will enable
Self-managing
Systems to adapt and optimize their behavior. Self-management is
particularly
important for mobile systems, since mobile environments are highly
dynamic and
consist of a very large number of managed systems.
This special issue will cover infrastructures, techniques, and methods
that can be
used to design, implement and deploy such self-managing systems.
Topics of particular interest include:
· Technologies, Frameworks, and Platforms for Self-managing Systems
· Case Studies and Experiences with Self-managing Systems
· Benchmarking and Evaluation of Self-managing Systems
· Human interaction with Self-managing Systems
· Self-healing Systems and Networks
· Implementation and Integration of Self-managing Systems with
standardized frameworks,
management architectures and APIs (OSI/TMN, SNMP, CORBA, WBEM/CIM, JMX)
· Application of Service-oriented Architectures (Web Services, Open
Grid Services)
to Self-managing Systems
· Peer-to-peer Technologies for Self-Management
Selection of contributions will be based on reviews of the papers
submitted.
Instructions to Contributors:
We invite prospective authors to submit high quality papers in PDF or
Postscript
format via email to one of the guest editors, depending on their
