=============================================================
DCOSS 2020 is the 16th International Conference on Distributed Computing
in Sensor Systems to be hosted in Los Angeles, California, USA, in June
25-27, 2020. In the last few years, we have witnessed a significant
growth in the use of IoT and distributed sensor systems in a number of
application areas, ranging from smart transport, energy and buildings,
to factory automation, smart healthcare and environmental monitoring. In
order for smart sensor systems to truly become useful and pervasive, we
need to address a number of research challenges, including the tight
integration of sensing and machine intelligence, reliable and efficient
networking, interoperability and scalability, the need for dependable
autonomy, interaction with humans, and important aspects of security,
privacy and trust. DCOSS focuses on issues arising in the entire IoT and
networked sensor systems stack: covering aspects of high-level
abstractions, models and languages, novel algorithms and applications,
system design approaches and architectures, as well as tools for
simulated and real deployments. Potential authors are invited to submit
original unpublished manuscripts that demonstrate recent advances in
both theoretical and experimental research. Topics of interest include,
but are not limited to, the following:
- Edge and fog computing: distributed computing models from sensor to cloud
- Energy harvesting models and optimization
- Machine intelligence in distributed sensor systems and real time analytics
- Communication and networking primitives and protocols
- Autonomy: closing the loop between sensing and actuation
- Task allocation, reprogramming, and reconfiguration
- Robustness, resilience and dependability
- Security and privacy issues
- Approaches, tools, and experience of deployment and operation
- Performance analysis: complexity, correctness, scalability
- Mobile and human-centered sensing
- Interoperability, heterogeneity and scalability
- Crowd sensing and social sensing techniques, applications, and systems
- Complex systems comprising wearable, robotic and/or fixed sensor systems
- Novel and compelling applications
- IoT systems for emerging and developing economies
- Green and environmentally-friendly IoT
Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts that
demonstrate current research on distributed sensor systems related to
DCOSS topics of interest. Please use the US letter size (8.5 X 11 in)

Apologies for cross-posting this invite:
Dear colleagues:
Call for Papers: 2020 WCNC 3rd Workshop on Intelligent Computing and
Caching at the Network Edge, 6-9 April 2020, Seoul, South Korea,
<http://users.jyu.fi/~zhchang/edge2020>
https://wcnc2020.ieee-wcnc.org/workshop/3rd-workshop-intelligent-computing-…
With the explosive growth of smart devices and the advent of many new
applications, mobile traffic volume has been growing exponentially. The
myriad technological advances proposed for the 5G networks still mostly
focus on capacity increase, which is constrained by the limited spectrum
resources as well as the diminishing profits for operators and,
therefore, will always lag behind the growth rate of mobile traffic.
Therefore, novel distributed architectures, which bring network
functions (such as computing and caching) and contents to the edge,
emerges, i.e., mobile edge computing and caching, to confront the
aforementioned challenges in the network development and many emerging
applications, such as AR/VR, IoT, eHealth, autonomous driving , gaming
etc. However, on the way towards efficient and intelligent network edge
computing and caching, there are many open problems ahead. From the
computing part, how to flexibly utilize the distributed computing
resources at the network edge, such as mobile computing or fog computing
is of significance. Moreover, what to be offloaded to the edge node and
when to offload also call for research attentions. From the caching
part, what, when, where and how to cache the contents to reduce the
demand for radio resources are vital. Last but not the most, how to
efficiently integrate computing and caching at the edge node and utilize
the synergy of computing and caching also requires a breakthrough. This
workshop aims to consolidate the timely and solid works of the current
state-of-the art in terms of fundamental research ideas and network
engineering geared towards exploiting intelligent caching and computing
at the network edge. The topics of interests related to edge caching and
computing include (but are not limited to):
System modelling: Computation modelling, caching modelling, energy
consumption modelling etc.;
Enabling technologies: e.g., SDN, NFV, CRAN, D2D, cloud/fog computing
and networking, etc.;
Application areas: vehicular networking, IoT, smart grid etc;
Novel network architecture: convergence of computing, communications and
caching, content/information-centric network, cognitive computing and
networking, big data analytic;
Context-aware schemes: incentive mechanism for computing and caching,
pricing, game theoretic approach, network economic etc, caching
placement and delivery;
Mobility management for mobile edge computing and proactive caching;
Energy efficiency aspects: energy harvesting, energy storage, energy
transfer, etc;
Security and privacy issue;
Prototyping, test-beds and field trials.

By leveraging the global interconnection of billions of tiny smart
objects, the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is fostering the idea
of pervasive Smart Environments (SEs) and Smart Urban Ecosystems,
where all the data gathered by the ``Things'' can be elaborated and
used to improve the livability, the safety and the security of the
environment, and to make inhabitants lives easier. However, despite
the research advancements in recent years, many open issues still
prevent the full realization of such vision.
To meet the requirements of SEs, telecommunication systems should
support significantly high data rates, traffic capacity, connection
density, energy efficiency, as well as small latency. Being massively
distributed into the environment, smart objects may generate, collect,
exchange and process big data, provide distributed services, offer
computational resources, and cooperate to perform some tasks locally,
as well as to delegate their execution to more powerful nodes in the
cloud or at the network edge. In addition to the traditional
pull-based data delivery, push-based and publish/subscribe traffic
patterns must be supported. To accommodate newly emerging more
demanding services the network infrastructure should be agile, cost
effective and possibly softwarized. The satisfaction of security and
privacy requirements will play a fundamental role in the SEs; indeed,
without effective mechanisms, attacks and malfunctions in the IoT will
outweigh any of their benefits.
The PERSIST-IoT workshop aims to solicit a collection of innovative
papers reporting the most recent advancements in the fields of smart
architecture, protocols and practical implementations enabling IoT for
smart environments. Topics of interests include, but are not limited
to the following:
· Models of network component interactions on smart environments;
· Distributed sensing and control in smart environments;
· Mobile-aware cloud computing models, infrastructures, and
approaches for smart environments;
· Mobile edge computing for smart environments;
· Crowdsourcing in smart environments;
· IoT architecture and middleware;
· Novel communication protocols for M2M/MTC communication;
· Novel networking paradigms (e.g., ICN, SDN) for IoT;
· Energy efficient solutions for IoT;
· Device-2-device communications (D2D);
· Reliability, security, privacy and trust in smart environment
ecosystems;
· Business models to promote user collaboration and resource
sharing in smart environments;
· Testbeds demonstrating the feasibility of smart environments;
· Applications, business, standards, and social issues.

===========================================================================
SIoTEc 2020 - 1st edition of IEEE Workshop on Secure IoT, Edge and Cloud
systems
The Langham - Melbourne, Australia
May 11 - 14, 2020 - http://siotec2020.netsons.org/
in conjunction with the 20th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster,
Cloud and Internet Computing (CCGrid 2020)
===========================================================================
MISSION:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Cloud/Edge paradigm fosters the deployment of digital services over
multiple physical (both private and public) infrastructures even across
different administrative boundaries. In its turn, the IoT advent has
determined the proliferation of smart devices connected to the Internet and
injecting into it a vast amount of data that may traverse several network
boundaries and undergo many computational stages before they get consumed.
If, on the one hand, the benefits brought by these technologies are well
known, it is clear as well that, in the envisaged scenario, the exposure of
data, services and infrastructures to malicious attacks has definitely
grown. Even a single breach on any of the links of the
data-service-infrastructure chain may seriously compromise the security of
the end-user application. With such a wide attack surface, security must
definitely approached in a holistic way and addressed in any layer where
concerns may potentially arise.
The workshop solicits novel and innovative ideas, proposals, positions and
best practices that address the modelling, design, implementation, and
enforcement of the security in Cloud/Edge/IoT environments.

Connected Vehicles

Submission Deadline: March 30, 2020
Overview: With the recent advances in wireless communications, the
automotive industry is leading to evolution. To succeed in this emerging
era of technology, the Internet of Connected Vehicles (IoCV) has emerged
as one of the potential applications of the Internet of Things (IoT). It
refers to the dynamic mobile communication systems that communicate
between vehicles and public networks to enhance the connectivity between
cars via technology. By offering a wide variety of infotainment
services, fleet operations, and in-vehicle applications, IoCV has gained
the tremendous capacity to provide a safer and sustainable
transportation system to the society. According to Gartner Inc., “the
connected car is already a reality, and in-vehicle wireless connectivity
is expanding rapidly”. As a result, the evolution of cars into the IoT
will keep on accelerating the global market which is expected to grow by
270 percent by 2022. Further, the increasing deployment of sensors and
ever-evolving cognitive technology open up new opportunities for IoCV.
Due to these significant developments, connected vehicles are receiving
widespread attention from the major automotive giants such as Tesla,
BMW, Waymo (Google), Uber, Volvo, etc. Despite all the opportunities
offered by the IoCV, their highly dynamic topology and the increasing
number of vehicles pose challenges regarding delivering low-latency
vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications.
The fifth generation (5G) wireless networks emerge as a critical
provider to handle the stringent connectivity requirements of IoCV.
Moreover, with the development of massive multiple-input-
multiple-output (MIMO), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), terahertz
(THz) frequencies, millimetre-wave (mmWave), and heterogeneous networks
(HetNets), 5G intends to guarantee new capabilities related to
connectivity, data rates, transmission delay, throughput and moreover
quality of experience (QoE). Thus, integrating 5G cellular systems into
IoCV is a promising technology to achieve the goals mentioned above.
However, as we are moving towards the 5G communication era, the data
generated by connected vehicles is expected to grow exponentially; which
in turn brings significant challenges to 5G. Therefore, to promote
productivity, improve efficiency, and ensure the efficient handling of
continuous growing data, it requires the support of high computing
paradigm that can process the data with minimum delays. To accomplish
these objectives, a programmable and scalable network paradigm is the
need of the hour that can provide a variety of services to 5G-envisioned
IoCV in diversified scenarios.
In this direction, software-defined networking (SDN) and network
function virtualization (NFV) have gained much attention from the
research fraternity. They rely more on network programmability to
realize efficient network services. However, this traditional
device-to-device management paradigm falls short while dealing with 5G
mobile networks as it is characterized by a humongous cycle of connected
devices. To overcome these problems, intent-based networking (IBN) has
evolved as one of the paradigm shifts which combines automation with
intelligence. Typically, IBN is composed of four essential elements
namely, translation and validation, automated implementation, awareness
of network state, and assurance and dynamic optimization/remediation;
which takes the networking strategy to a higher level. Due to these
fundamental elements, IBN holds excellent potential for reliable network
support with quick turnaround and scalable services. Additionally, it
also facilitates simplified network operations with seamless integration
of artificial intelligence and machine learning. This, in turn, provides
more opportunities to build more robust and efficient network designs
for 5G-envisioned IoCV.
Thus, this special issue intends to offer an opportunity for researchers
(both from industry and academia) to present the dedicated efforts on
the key theories, innovative schemes, and significant applications for
realizing QoS in 5G-envisioned IoCV communication. This special issue
mainly focuses on collecting the original contributions related to
IBN-IoCV amalgamation in 5G wireless networks, which aims to provide
high-performance scalable computing to connected vehicles while
advancing the V2X communication infrastructure.
Topics of interest to this special issue include, but are not limited to:
-New opportunities/challenges/ use cases for IBN in 5G enabled IoCV
-Machine learning and optimisation-based algorithms, tools and solutions
-Distributed mobility management and network intelligence
-New architecture and communication protocols
-Innovative applications and services
-MIMO/massive MIMO/millimeter wave technologies
-Big data analytics and Industrial IoT Applications
-Role of cloud, edge and fog computing
-Secure, dependable and trustable cyber-physical systems
-Privacy protection and trust management
-Energy-efficient and green communication solutions
-Reliability, dependability, and fault tolerance support for IBN
