Please send us the stories and accounts of the problems that you have faced doing actual Wireless Sensor System deployments. All accounts of issues that you have encountered are valuable records of the types of problems that need to be overcome in order to create a principled engineering approach to sensor systems embedded in the environment. We only seek a six page submission, and respect confidentiality (Charter House rules) where required. IMPORTANT DATES Paper submission: 15th November, 2019 Acceptance notification: 10th December, 2019 Camera ready: 20th December, 2019 Workshop date: 17th February, 2020 TOPICS OF INTEREST Papers describing and presenting data of problems and failures of experimental efforts, practical experiences, and industrial and commercial developments in all aspects of sensor networks, mobile devices, and wireless communication are solicited. Within this domain, particular topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Failure and the diagnosis of an actual deployment of mobile apps, net- works and systems. Must include some data and analysis of what caused the failure. • Examples of a deployment that was tested, and failed due to unexpected circumstances. The testing methodology must be presented and discussed, as well as how it failed to account for the phenomenon that caused the failure, and a potential solution described. • Testing frameworks or verification methodologies that have arisen out of sensor system deployment failures, and are currently used to prevent similar failures of wireless sensor systems. • Monitoring tools or control systems that have been used in actual deployments and have been used to detect and diagnose node or system performance issues or failures. • Any documented examples with data showing the effects of a malicious or nefarious attack on a deployed embedded wireless sensor system. The myriad technological advances proposed for the 5G networks still mostly focus on capacity increase, which is constrained by the limited spectrum resources as well as the diminishing profits for operators and, therefore, will always lag behind the growth rate of mobile traffic. Therefore, novel distributed architectures, which bring network functions (such as computing and caching) and contents to the edge, emerges, i.e., mobile edge computing and caching, to confront the aforementioned challenges in the network development and many emerging applications, such as AR/VR, IoT, eHealth, autonomous driving , gaming etc. However, on the way towards efficient and intelligent network edge computing and caching, there are many open problems ahead. From the computing part, how to flexibly utilize the distributed computing resources at the network edge, such as mobile computing or fog computing is of significance. Moreover, what to be offloaded to the edge node and when to offload also call for research attentions. From the caching part, what, when, where and how to cache the contents to reduce the demand for radio resources are vital. Last but not the most, how to efficiently integrate computing and caching at the edge node and utilize the synergy of computing and caching also requires a breakthrough. This workshop aims to consolidate the timely and solid works of the current state-of-the art in terms of fundamental research ideas and network engineering geared towards exploiting intelligent caching and computing at the network edge. The impact of multi-device computing has also found many applications in everyday settings, for which they were not initially conceived, such as continuous multi-device experience for users, formation of collaborative multi-device infrastructure, multi-device remote control systems and multi-device autonomous interactions, among others. The goal of PerCrowd 2020 is to explore the impact of multi-device context in self-organizing and opportunistic computing. More in detail, The goal of this workshop is to explore the use and effect of contexts on multi-device environments to facilitate communication and cooperation among multiple devices. Original papers addressing theoretical, practical, and technical aspects of opportunistic and self-organizing multi-device systems are solicited. Papers describing prototype implementations and deployment of such applications and systems are particularly welcome. The submission of informative surveys of the state of the art as well as position papers on controversial issues is also encouraged. Bell Labs recently predicts that, by 2020, the consumption demand for digital content and services on mobile and portable devices will see a global average increase of 30 to 45 times from 2014 levels – with some markets experiencing as much as a 98-fold jump. This huge demand stimulates multiple technology developments such as mobile edge computing, Internet of things, wearables, and crowdsourcing. It also brings into focus the need for usable security mechanisms that scale. Meanwhile, as a fundamental part of numerous services including messaging, gaming, advertising, recommending, commercing, and content sharing, social networking needs to be provisioned and used via mobile devices in any place at any time. From 2016 onwards, Facebook had around one billion monthly active users who accessed Facebook via only mobile devices. Utilizing the emerging mobile technologies to enable pervasive and enriched social interactions has become a vital trend. The 12th Workshop on Hot Topics in Pervasive mObile Social neTworking (HotPOST 2020) aims to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners who work on mobile computing, social networks, and the intersection of both, to identify new problems and discuss latest research ideas and results, especially those related to emerging technologies. HotPOST 2020 focuses on all aspects of mobile and social networking, including architecture, design, implementation, measurement, modeling, algorithms, and analysis. The topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: * Mobile-centric social network services * Location-based social networks * Mobile edge/fog computing and networking * Wearable computing * Mobile online advertising and payment * Internet of Things, AR/VR, and crowdsourcing * Measurement of mobile systems and applications * User behavior analysis in mobile applications * Usable and scalable security and privacy in mobile systems and social networks * Reputation, incentives, and economics in mobile systems * Modeling and algorithm design for mobile systems Authors are encouraged to submit papers describing original and unpublished research, not currently under review in other venues, addressing state-of-the-art research and development in all aspects of mobile computing, social networks, or the intersection of both. In particular, innovative, early-stage ideas and preliminary results are welcome. The length of the paper must be no more than 6 pages in the IEEE double-column format, including references. The first page must contain an abstract, the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s). Each submission will receive at least three independent, single-blind peer reviews from the program committee. At least one of the authors of every accepted paper must register and present the paper at the workshop. Technical summary The success of the Internet of Things (IoT) depends significantly on solving related decentralization, security and privacy challenges. A key aspect is decentralization, as many if not most of the IoT use cases include big data collection from large-scale and heterogeneous device deployments. Furthermore, decentralized security may help to overcome privacy concerns and scalability bottlenecks, both of which become increasingly serious in large-scale deployments, such as smart cities, Industry 4.0, or next generation business platforms. A decentralized approach to IoT systems and security brings forth many opportunities but also challenges, such as operating with constrained devices, with intermittent network connectivity, state synchronization, and trust management — these and additional challenges listed below would be the scope of the proposed workshop. Following the spirit of NDSS, the goal of this workshop is to bring together academia and industry, researchers and practitioners, to analyze and discuss the potential and limits of decentralization in secure IoT systems. Mobile and social sensing is becoming a paradigm for collecting observations of the physical phenomena, either directly from human observers, or by means of crowd-sourcing the data measurement tasks using sensors in the smart phones or various other wearables (e.g., Google Glass, Apple Watch, and Fitbit devices). It thus involves massive amount of sensory data collection and/or dissemination where humans can act as sensor carriers (e.g., carrying GPS sensors that share location data), sensor operators (e.g., taking pictures and videos with smart phones), or as sensors themselves (e.g., sharing their observations on social media). This emerging field faces new challenges in data collection, dissemination, fusion, and mining; cognitive modeling; computational social and behavior science; information and coding theory; information processing and knowledge discovery; data dissemination and forwarding, reliability, privacy, and security; and cyber-physical-systems with human-in/on-the-loop. This special issue invites technical papers on both theoretical contributions and systems describing original ideas, exciting results, and real-world experiences in the context of mobile and social sensing.
