http://www.ieee-vnc.org/apps.html
Call for Apps Mobile and wearable technologies are undergoing massive
growth and the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is expected to drive network
traffic to unprecedented levels. The challenge of interacting with
automated (and connected) vehicles is also creating opportunities for
the further development of mobile and wearable technologies. IEEE VNC
2016 is seeking to encourage innovation in vehicular networking and
communication systems by organizing its first ever mobile app contest,
to be run in conjunction with the main conference. The contest aims at
novel mobile applications associated with autonomous vehicles, transport
vehicles, passenger cars, and even two-wheeled vehicles. This is a
platform-neutral contest. Applications may be developed for, but are not
limited to, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc. Important Dates
* Registration Deadline -- September 15, 2016 * Submission
Deadline -- October 30, 2016 * Finalist Notification -- November 10,
2016 * Finalist Demonstration – December 8, 2016 (during the
conference) Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

Dear colleagues,
Please let me bring to your attention a special issue in the IEEE Cloud
Computing magazine that is of relevance to this mailing list:
https://www.computer.org/web/computingnow/call-for-papers-cloud-computing-m…
Submission deadline: 3 October 2016
Publication date: March/April 2017
In parallel to the rise of cloud computing, there is an ongoing
penetration of business and personal spaces by Internet of Things (IoT)
devices. Such devices do not only act as sensors, but also provide
computing, networking, and storage resources. Fog computing (sometimes
referred to as edge computing) provides a conceptual approach for
virtualizing and orchestrating these resources to process data. Fog
computing makes it possible to move from centralized cloud-based data
processing to a decentralized processing network that includes networked
edge devices, allows for cloud offloading and multicloud deployment, and
leverages federated clouds.
A number of conceptual approaches to provide such solutions have already
been proposed. Despite these existing theoretical foundations, practical
adoption of fog computing is still at its very beginning. Consequently,
this Special Issue of IEEE Cloud Computing seeks to address these needs.
To do so, areas of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not
limited, to:
- Development techniques for applications that combine fog and cloud
resources
- DevOps for fog computing
- Modeling approaches for fog and cloud computing
- Fog-to-(multi)cloud solutions
- Deploying and managing applications in the fog and in the cloud
- Automated service and virtual resource selection and allocation
- Virtualization of edge devices
- Self-adaptation and self-optimization of fog services
- Monitoring of fog and cloud infrastructures and applications
- Resource management for fog data analysis in the cloud
- Security and privacy issues in fog computing
- Business models for fog computing
- Standardization activities
- Best practices, success factors, and empirical studies
- New delivery models for fog computing application scenarios
- Reports on use cases, for instance in connected vehicles, smart grid,
energy harvesting, or home automation
We are looking forward to your submissions.

*Introduction*
Recent years have witnessed breakthroughs in sensing technology,
treatments and ways to interact with patients in medical and healthcare
applications. Examples include minimally-invasive embedded and
bio-compatible devices, deep-brain stimulation, "smart skin", and
artificial retinas. In addition, the medical device industry is
undergoing a rapid transformation, embracing the potential of embedded
software and network connectivity. Yet, despite the tremendous promise,
the medical devices are still burdened by complex design, safety
assurance, and tendency to operate independently.
Medical Cyber-Physical Systems are safety-critical, interconnected,
intelligent systems of medical devices. The combination of embedded
software controlling the devices, networking capabilities, unique
sensing and actuation technologies, and complicated physical dynamics
exhibited by patient bodies highlights some of the specific research
challenges for this distinct class of cyber-physical systems. As such
systems become increasingly complex, interconnected, and interoperating,
the major challenge is how to assure and improve the safety, security,
efficiency and reliability of medical cyber-physical systems.
*Scope, Description, and More Information*
This special issue seeks papers describing significant research
contributions in the domain of medical cyber-physical systems; each
paper should show enough evidence of contributions to medical
cyber-physical systems applications and systems in practice. Areas of
interest include, but are not limited to:
* Case studies and experience reports for medical cyber-physical systems
* Infrastructure support for high-confidence medical cyber-physical
systems, including architectures, platforms, middleware, resource
management, QoS
* Medical device Plug-and-Play operation and interoperability
* Control and sensing in medical cyber-physical systems for
physiological closed-loop treatment - assuring safety and
effectiveness for systems with varying degree of caregiver supervision
* Programming models and tools for high-confidence medical systems
* Modeling and analysis of safety and reliability properties of
medical cyber-physical systems
* Caregiver and patient modeling, including high fidelity
organ/patient models for the design and validation of medical
cyber-physical systems
* Evidence-based validation and certification for high-confidence
medical cyber-physical systems.
*Schedule*
* Full paper submission deadline: August 15, 2016
* First author notification: December 1, 2016
* Revised paper due: February 1, 2017
* Final author notification: March 15, 2017
* Expected publication: Fall, 2017

Call For Papers
IEEE JSAC Special Issue on “Human-In-The-Loop Mobile Networks”
Due to rapid developments of smart devices and mobile applications,
human activities, usage behavior and perceived experience of users weigh
increasingly on the performance of mobile networks. Scenarios include
mobile communication networks, haptic communications for 5G,
device-to-device (D2D) networks, and wearable sensor networks. In these
systems, human users interact extensively with the system, and the
user-perceived quality-of- experience (QoE) is critical. However,
various important human factors, e.g., predictable and repeating
behavior, have not yet been well understood and fully taken into
consideration in current generation mobile networks. Hence, a paradigm
shift is required for designing a new human-in-the-loop architecture for
mobile networks, by actively learning, predicting, adapting to, and
steering user behavior, so as to greatly improve system efficiency and
to provide superior users QoE. Specifically, such an architecture
includes the following main components.
(i) Human behavioral big data: Large-scale data is the foundation of
user behavior study and prediction. However, their formats must be
carefully designed to reflect user features in multi-dimensions, the
crowd needs to be incentivized for data sensing and acquisition, and one
may also need to leverage distributed caching, computing and
communication capabilities of smart devices for scalable and reliable
data communications. (ii) Human behavior learning and analytics: Human
behavior exhibits significant amount of predictability, and tends to
have repeated patterns, e.g., mobility and usage patterns. Efficient
techniques must be developed or tailored towards human behavior modeling
and data processing, and must be able to handle the dynamic nature of
acquired data and respect heterogeneous constraints in data sampling and
processing. (iii) Intelligent control for human-intense mobile networks:
Online learning-based control and predictive control techniques must be
developed to enable seamless integration of data in system optimization.
They should be able to exploit benefits of behavior learning, while
handling the selfish nature of human users and randomness in human
actions, with the ultimate objective of guaranteeing superior QoE in
resource-limited mobile networks.
In this special issue, we focus on fundamental problems involving human
activities and interactions with future mobile networks. We invite
submissions of high-quality original technical papers, which have not
been published previously. The topics in this call include but are not
limited to the following areas:
• Crowdsensing and analytics of human user data
• Human-system interaction modeling and analysis for mobile networks
• Predictive control in multi-user mobile communication systems
• Online behavior-learning and control in mobile networks
• Local caching in human-intense mobile systems
• Human-intense D2D communications
• Resource allocation and optimization for 5G haptic communications

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Section in IEEE Access
Energy Harvesting and Scavenging: Technologies, Algorithms, and
Communication Protocols
Submission Deadline: Nov 30, 2016
This CFP can be seen at the website of IEEE Access at
http://www.ieee.org/publications_standards/publications/ieee_access/ssa_ene…
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Energy
Harvesting and Scavenging: Technologies, Algorithms, and Communication
Protocols.
The operation of modern electronic communication devices rely on
constant energy sources such as DC power obtained from AC sources via AC
to DC conversion or small chargeable/replaceable batteries. However, in
some cases, providing constant energy source is not feasible. Due to the
advancement in technology, energy harvesting technologies can be
exploited to power-up the modern day electronic communication devices.
These energy harvesting technologies rely on energy sources naturally
present in the environment, such as solar energy, wind energy, and heat
energy. Moreover, energy can also be acquired from the human body from
movement of different parts of the body such as walking, heartbeat,
movement of arms, just to name a few. All these energy harvesting
technologies and techniques may satisfy the need of energy for low power
communication devices and may enable the charging of electronic mobile
devices anywhere and at any time.
In this Special Section, we focus on the most recent advances in the
interdisciplinary research areas encompassing the Energy Harvesting
domain. This special section will bring together researchers from
diverse fields and specializations, such as communications engineering,
computer science, electrical and electronics engineering, bio-medical
engineering, education sector, mathematics and specialists in the areas
related to energy harvesting technologies. In this Special Section, we
invite researchers from academia, industry, and governmental
organizations to discuss challenging ideas, novel research
contributions, demonstration results, and standardization efforts on the
energy harvesting and related areas.
Topics of interest include, but not limited to the following:
- Battery Recharging Techniques
- Harvesting Technologies (Solar Cells, Peizoelectric,
Electrostatic, Bio Fuel Cell)
- Analysis of Energy Sources (walking, body heat, heart beat
etc) in Body Area Networks
- Solar Energy based Battery Recharging
- Bio Chemical Energy Harvesting Sources
- Bio Mechanical Energy Harvesting Sources
- Ambient Energy Harvesting Sources
- Wind Energy based Battery Recharging

Call for Papers: IEEE Network Special Issue on
-------------------------------------------------------------
** Vehicle-to-Grid Networks **
-------------------------------------------------------------
The past decade has witnessed an explosive growth in the developments
and deployments of Electric Vehicles (EVs) (including unmanned
vehicles), leading to a multidisciplinary research area called Vehicle
to Grid (V2G) networks which cover power grid, communication networks,
and transportation systems. From the perspective of power sector, V2G
networks necessitate a careful management of the energy flow for
charging/discharging a tremendous number of EVs, with the objectives of
guaranteeing grid stability, improving energy utilization, and reaping
potential arbitrage value. Meanwhile, as indispensable bridges for
managing the EVs connected to the power grid and the associated energy
flows in V2G networks, designs of efficient communication networks for
facilitating V2G/V2V communications are indispensable. Such designs not
only cover a wide range of important directions such as network
infrastructures, cross layer communication protocols, signaling systems,
quality of service!
, and resource managements, but also need the integration of the
emerging ICT technologies such as M2M (or D2D) communications, IoT
networks, software defined networks. Moreover, driven by the growing
security issues in cyber spaces, securing the operations and
communications of V2G networks and protecting the privacy of EV owners
will be of practical and timely importance.
This special issue aims to provide a platform for sharing the recent
research and development on V2G networks. We solicit papers covering
various topics of interest that include, but are not limited to the
following:
* Network Architectures and Topology Designs for V2G Networks; *
Cross-Layer Communications Protocols for V2G Networks; * QoS
Provisioning for V2G Networks; * Transportation Networks and V2G
Networks; * IoT and M2M for V2G Networks; * Software Defined Networks
for V2G Networks; * Narrow-band LTE for V2G Networks; * Security,
Privacy, Integrity, and Trust for V2G Networks; * Big Data Analytics for
V2G Networks; * Energy (Charging/Discharging) Managements for V2G
Networks; * EV-Mobility Modeling and Managements for V2G Networks; *
Autonomous Driving Vehicles for V2G Networks; * Distributed Energy and
Storage Systems for V2G Networks;
* Testbeds and Platforms for V2G Networks.
