*Introduction*
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is a speedily emerging area that will cover
every aspect of life in the near future. Semiconductors and the Internet
have revolutionized and transformed our lives and how we interact with
information, which has in turn led to the growth of information
technology. Today we are in a CPS paradigm that will transform the way
we interact with, and manipulate, physical systems. CPS represents a
bold new generation of systems that integrates computing and
communication capabilities with the dynamics of physical and engineered
systems. Vast major investments are being made worldwide in developing
this technology and its impact on the economy and social structure has
yet to be realized. No matter how integrated cyber-physical worlds are
to develop, there is no doubt that they must be "dependable".
Increasingly, individuals, practitioners, and organizations have begun
to develop or procure sophisticated CPS in whose /dependability/ of
services they must have great confidence. Future CPS systems need to
close the /dependability/ gap in the face of challenges in different
circumstances and services, e.g., continuity, effective performance,
real-time responsiveness, ability to overcome data
fault/corruption/anomaly, ability to avoid catastrophic failures,
prevention of deliberate privacy intrusions,
reliability/availability/sustainability/adaptability/heterogeneity/security/safety,
and so on. Therefore, we have a wide open area of research to explore
and exploit the challenges and immense opportunities in this dependable
CPS arena.
*Scope*
This special issue focuses on bringing together current research ideas
and techniques from researchers and practitioners belonging to a myriad
of research areas, with the final goal of sharing their specific
challenges and solutions for /CPS dependability/. More specifically,
contributions related to /dependability/ aspects of CPS
/applications/systems in practice/ are of interest. The scope for this
special issue includes but is not limited to the following list:
* Theoretical foundations of dependability in
controlling/managing/monitoring in CPS
* Architectural framework and design methodologies for dependable CPS
* Dependable software platforms for managing CPS
* Dependability issues in Big Data analytics for CPS
* Dependability issues in Cloud-assisted CPS
* Dependability issues in sensor network protocols for CPS
* Fault models and fault tolerances in both cyber and physical subsystems
* HCI models and HCI system failure and recovery
* Cyber security, privacy, safety, availability/reliability issues in

"Smart Grid and Renewable Energy Resources: Information and
Communication Technologies with Industry Perspective"
Submission Deadline: Dec 30, 2016
This CFP can be seen at the website of IEEE Transactions on Industrial
Informatics at
http://tii.ieee-ies.org/
THE THEME
----------------
The naturally replenished inexhaustible energy that exists all around us
in the ambient environment is often referred as renewable energy. Though
this type of energy can be present in any form, it can only be converted
into electrical energy through appropriate hardware. The potential
renewable energy resources include light, wind, vibration, heat,
biofuel, biomass, and tides. It is envisaged that the use of renewable
energy will reduce the use of primary energy in future and this trend
will continue in order to reduce the emission of the greenhouse gases.
The abundance of these renewable distributed energy resources (DERs) at
consumer side may help to develop distributed renewable energy
generation at a large scale. The DERs will likely be an integral part of
the future electric grid i.e., the smart grid. A prominent feature of
the smart grid is that it allows for two-way communication between the
utility and its customers through information and communication
technologies!
(ICTs).
In this special section, we seek new and unpublished work in the domain
of information and communication technologies with an industry
perspective in the domain of Smart Grid systems with emphasis on the
integration of renewable energy resources. More specifically, this
special section will focus on recent developments in the smart grid and
its integration with renewable energy resources.
TOPICS
-----------
The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:
- Integration of renewable energy resources (RERs) with smart grid (SG)
- Information and communication technologies supporting smart grid with RERs

key element of our lives, as they are used in an increasing number of
activities (e.g. during sport sessions for keeping track of energy
expenditure, or when walking as unobtrusive pedestrian navigation
systems). In general, these devices are worn continuously throughout the
day and thus provide the opportunity to gather information about their
users with unprecedented levels. In addition, many wearable devices are
directly worn over the skin and they may include sensors not available
on common smartphones (e.g. for monitoring the user’s heart rate). As a
consequence, they are particularly suitable for those medical
applications where continuous monitoring is fundamental. At the same
time, the massive amount of information collected through these devices
is enabling novel applications in the context of e-health and wellbeing.
For instance, it is known that abundance of information promotes an
effective management of patients’ condition, and a well-informed patient
is more likely to conduct a healthy lifestyle.
This special issue aims to collect recent, original research in the area
of wearable systems for e-health and wellbeing. Papers that report on
techniques, systems, and experiments that fit in the mentioned scenario
and potentially interesting for the readers of Personal and Ubiquitous
Computing are welcome.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Smartwatch-based applications for a healthy lifestyle
- Dedicated wearable systems and architectures for e-health and wellbeing
- Performance evaluation of wearable systems in e-health and wellbeing
- Novel techniques and applications for wearable systems in e-health
and wellbeing
- Wearable systems for diagnosis and assessment of medical conditions
- Detection of anomalies through wearable systems
- Security and privacy in e-health and wellbeing applications based
on wearable systems
- Wearable systems for older adults
- Experimental evaluation of wearable systems for e-health and wellbeing
- Networking in wearable systems for e-health and wellbeing

AIMS AND SCOPE
----------------------------
The next era will be the era of pervasive and mobile computing (PMC).
Ubiquitous computing, mobile computing, and last mile connectivity based
applications will be the future of mobile applications. Peer-to-Peer
(P2P) will play an important role in such applications. P2P networking
refers to the technology that enables two or more peers to collaborate
spontaneously in an overlay network by using appropriate information and
communication systems without the necessity for a central coordination.
A P2P overlay network is a robust, distributed and fault-tolerant
network architecture for sharing resources like CPU, memory and files.
Mobile and wireless technology have experienced great progress in recent
years. There are several research challenges in the design of an
efficient P2P-based network, e.g., the design of a flexible structure
(like ring, chord, 3D or other multi dimensional structure), avoiding
mismatch between physical and logical networks, having a flexible structur!
e that can accommodate dynamic joining and departure of nodes, routing,
and forwarding of query. Also, P2P networks have been used in the
emerging networks, such as smart grid, cognitive radio networks, online
social networks and data center networks, for the support of various
applications like routing information maintenance, data storage and
retrieval, and location service. Each of these emerging networks has
their own unique characteristics which requires a different approach for
the design of an efficient P2P structure for these emerging networks.
In this special issue, we are seeking new and unpublished work in the
domain of emerging P2P network technologies for pervasive and mobile
computing. More specifically, this special issue will focus on recent
developments in the design of an efficient P2P-based protocol in the
emerging networks and its new applications with special focus on
pervasive and mobile computing. Traditional networking papers or papers
that do not emphasize the proper focus of this special issue will be
rejected without review.
The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:
- P2P networks for pervasive and mobile computing (PMC) applications
- P2P-based protocol for data/file sharing in Internet, smart grid, ad
hoc networks, wireless sensor networks, data center, vehicular networks,
Internet of Things, smart systems
- P2P-based routing protocols for Internet, smart grid, ad hoc networks,
data center networks
- P2P support of efficient data management in cloud computing
- P2P-based location services for storing/managing geographic location
information
- Application of P2P in vehicular networks.
- P2P based protocols for Named Networks for PMC applications
- P2P based protocols for social networking for PMC applications
- P2P based protocols for Software Defined Radio for PMC applications
- P2P-based protocol for multimedia networks for PMC applications
- P2P-based overlays for group communication for PMC applications
- IP/Name resolution through P2P-based protocol
- Cross-layer approach for P2P-based protocols for PMC
- Developments, issues, and open areas of P2P protocols for PMC
