IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols
Singapore, November 8-11, 2016
Call for Papers
http://icnp2016.comp.nus.edu.sg
======================================================================
ICNP, the IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols,
is the premier conference covering all aspects of network protocol
research, including design, analysis, specification, verification,
implementation, and performance. ICNP 2016, the 24th annual edition,
will be held in Singapore from Nov. 8-11, 2016.
Papers with significant research contributions to the field of network
protocols are solicited for submission. Papers cannot be previously
published nor under review by another conference or journal.
Papers containing plagiarized material will be subject to the IEEE
plagiarism policy and will be rejected without review.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- All aspects of network protocol research including design,
specification, verification, implementation, measurement,
testing, and analysis.
- Protocols for wireless networks, cellular networks,
software-defined networks, data center networks,
social networks, peer-to-peer networks, sensor networks,
and Internet of Things.
- Domain-specific solutions, including protocols for
network security, routing, user privacy, and network management.
- Contributions to network architecture, e.g., specific
algorithms and protocols for network virtualization or
future Internet architectures.
Papers must deal specifically with aspects of network protocol research.
ICNP 2016 will select full papers for the best paper awards. Up to two
of the best papers from ICNP will be fast-tracked in the IEEE/ACM
Transactions on Networking, with a streamlined journal review process.
ICNP 2016 will use a double-blind review process. Papers should adhere
to the IEEE formatting requirements and should not exceed 10 pages
(see conference website page for details). Authors are expected to
present accepted papers at the conference, and at least one author
is required to register, at the full rate, in order for the paper to
appear in the proceedings and the IEEE digital library. One full
registration covers up to three papers on which a person is a co-author.

Workshop on Hilariously Low-Power Computing: Pushing the Boundaries of
Intermittently Powered Devices (HLPC2016)
Co-located with ASPLOS'16
April 2, 2016, Atlanta, GA, USA
http://www.hlpc2016.com/index.html
Scope:
Intermittently Powered Devices (IPDs) are embedded devices that have no
tethered power supply and very little, or no energy storage capacity.
These devices typically operate using energy harvested from their
environment e.g., RF, solar, vibration, etc. When energy is
intermittently available, IPDs can perform computation, use peripheral
devices (e.g., sensors), and communicate (e.g., via backscatter). These
devices currently operate at approximately 10 microJ/Byte energy
consumption, enabling today's devices to support simple, short-lived,
primarily isolated applications. With improvements in computer
architectures, hardware and software systems, the communications stack,
emerging memory technologies, and energy harvesting and transfer, we
envision devices that operate in the sub-nJ/Byte range, supporting
long-running, sophisticated, sensor-rich, widely-communicating applications.
This workshop exists to bring together researchers at the intersection
of programming languages, software systems, extreme low-power computer
architecture, and embedded communication and computing devices.
Call for Papers:
The workshop seeks paper submission in four main areas:
IPDs (Intermittently Powered Devices)
IPDs at the limits of minimum power consumption - HLPDs (Hilariously Low
Power Devices) IPDs that are embedded - DEIs (Deeply Embedded IPDs) IPDs
and communication - HLPComms (Hilariously Low-Power Communication) These
areas are mapped into topic for consideration that include:
Software-defined wirelessly-programmable IPDs Programming techniques for
IPDs Backscatter and other ultra-low power communication primitives
System support for reliability and robustness to intermittence Computer
architecture for IPDs Operating systems for IPDs Applications of
emerging, non-volatile memory and compute devices in IPDs Novel energy
harvesting and transfer techniques Tradeoffs between power transfer and
communication and coding for both Error-correction and control (both for
storage and communication) Theoretical limits of computation and
communication in IPDs Studies and experience reports on emerging IPD
applications Testbeds, platform engineering reports, and experimental
datasets
Deadlines:
Paper Submission: February 15, 2016 (GMT-5) Notification of acceptance:
March 4, 2016 (GMT-5) Final paper submission: March 18, 2016 (GMT-5)
Workshop day: April 2, 2016
Paper Submission Guidelines

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS: SPECIAL ISSUE ON
Architecture for Next Generation Wireless Networks:
Scalability, Flexibility, and Interoperability
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
Over the past decade, we have witnessed the tremendous growth in the
number of networked wireless devices, in the types of wireless and
mobile applications, and in the total amount of traffic from and
towards these devices. In the foreseeable future, it is expected
that such a trend will continue with an unprecedented increasing rate.
For instance, with the recent deployment of the fourth-generation (4G)
cellular network, mobile data traffic rate over cellular networks had
exceeded 2 Exabytes per month world-wide by the end of 2014. Recent
studies also suggest that the mobile traffic rate could be increased
10-fold by 2019. Besides the ever-increasing mobile applications over
cellular networks, many other wireless applications are emerging,
including smart grid, vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), cyber-physical
system (CPS), and more generally, Internet of Things (IoT). Clearly,
to accommodate the fast growing demands, future wireless networks must
be scalable.
For the aforementioned existing and emerging wireless applications, it
has been well-known that they have diverse quality-of-service (QoS)
requirements: from low data rate IoT monitoring applications to high
data rate content streaming applications, from delay sensitive
real-time monitoring in smart grid and safety control in vehicular
CPS to delay-tolerant IoT applications. Therefore, it has been very
challenging to design and develop practical wireless networks and
systems to facilitate different application demands efficiently. To
address these challenges, researchers and developers in both academia
and industry have put significant efforts to design various wireless
networks. For example, in the past few years, the architecture of the
fifth-generation (5G) cellular network has attracted significant
attention, several future Internet architectures (FIAs) have also been
proposed and investigated, and various architectures have been
developed for smart grid, VANET, IoT, etc. Naturally, it becomes very
important to investigate two issues: first, how we can flexibly deploy
or configure a specific type of wireless network, and secondly, if we
have multiple co-existing wireless networks, how we can enable the
interoperation among them.
In the literature, the importance of scalability, flexibility, and
interoperability has been recognized and there are some existing
studies already. However, despite the importance of these efforts,
there are still many challenging issues to be addressed. For example,
how to effectively accommodate more than 1 trillion networked devices
world-wide in the next 10 years? How to efficiently provision services
in future wireless networks such that a given system can be flexibly
programmed to optimize the performance of certain applications? How to
facilitate the interoperation of heterogeneous wireless networks and
systems? To understand and solve these key issues, we organize this
special issue in IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine focusing on the
scalability, flexibility, and interoperability in the design of
architecture for future wireless networks. The special issue covers
topics that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Architecture for large-scale Internet of Things (IoT)
- Flexible architecture for applications with diverse data rates
- Flexible architecture for systems and applications with diverse mobility
requirements
- Flexible cognitive radio and spectrum access
- Interoperability between future Internet and wireless networks
- Interoperability among diverse wireless networks
- Namespace management in heterogeneous wireless networks
- Routing in large-scale multihop wireless network
- Security design on wireless scalability, flexibility, and interoperability
- Scalable cooperative communications and network coding
- Scalable data-centric wireless network architecture
- Scalable energy efficiency wireless network
- Scalable social-aware wireless network architecture
- Standards for scalable, flexible, and interoperable wireless networks
- Wireless network for large-scale cyber-physical-system

OVERVIEW
========
Micro and nano aerial vehicles (MAVs and NAVs), often referred to as
drones, are unmanned aerial vehicles of various forms, such as small
quadrocopters, airplanes, balloons, or tiny flapping wing vehicles. They
are novel mobile unmanned systems currently investigated in various
mission-oriented civilian applications. Recent popular applications
employing MAVs are 3D-mapping, search and rescue, surveillance, farmland
and construction monitoring, delivery of light-weight objects and
products (e.g., Amazon's announced drone delivery system), or video
taking during sports events. Such drones are autonomous systems with a
good awareness of their environment, provided by rich on board sensors,
such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, lasers, GPS units and cameras, and
embedded image processing. Nevertheless, all useful applications require
a reliable communication link, or even rely on fleets of MAVs.
DroNet welcomes contributions dealing with communication aspects of
micro aerial vehicles, theoretical studies, algorithm and protocol
design for flexible aerial networks, as well as mission-oriented
contributions dealing with requirements, constraints, safety issues, and
regulation. We are particularly looking for papers reporting on system
aspects and experimental results, summaries of challenges or
advancements, measurements, or innovative applications. The program
seeks original work of potentially interdisciplinary teams to present

CALL FOR PAPERS
Due to advancements in communication and computing technologies, smart
cities have become main innovation agenda of research organizations,
technology vendors, and governments. To make a city smart, a strong
communication infrastructure is required for connecting smart objects,
people, and sensors together. Smart city communication involves multiple
aggregation and access networks that can be either public or private.
The rapid progress in smart cities research is posing enormous
challenges in terms of significance, scope, and problem domain. Smart
cities rely on wireless and mobile technologies for providing services
such as healthcare assistance, security and safety, real-time traffic
monitoring, and managing the environment, to name a few. Such
applications have been a main driving force in development of smart
cities. These mobile and wireless technologies enable several new
services that result into better decision making and actions made by
enterprises and governments.!
Without the appropriate communication networks, it is really difficult
for a city to facilitate its citizens in sustainable, efficient, and
safer manner/environment. Considering the significance of mobile and
wireless technologies for realizing the vision of smart cities, there is
a need for conducting research to further investigate the
standardization efforts and explore different issues/challenges in the
wireless technologies, mobile computing and smart environments.
This FT focuses on the crossroads between scientists, industry
practitioners, and researchers from different domains in the wireless
technologies, mobile computing and smart environments. We envision to
provide a platform for researchers to further explore the domain and
explore the challenges. In this FT, we invite researchers from academia,
industry, and government to discuss challenging ideas, novel research
contributions, demonstration results, and standardization efforts on
enabling mobile and wireless technologies for smart cities.
FOCUS FOR THE FT
In this FT we would like to try to answer some (or all) of the following
questions:
How mobile and wireless technologies can improve the performance and
services provided by smart cities? How to evaluate the impact of mobile
and wireless technologies on smart cities services? What are the key
mobile and wireless technological challenges that hinder the development
of smart cities? How to standardize the wireless interfaces of devices
for communication in smart cities?
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Resource and network management in smart cities
• Quality of Service mechanisms for wireless networks in smart cities
• Integration and co-existence of technologies and networks for
smart cities
• Interoperability between heterogeneous networks of smart cities
