It envisions a world in which the sensor devices could exist in any form factor, anywhere, in which all the sensory data will be made available to the Internet, and be readily accessible to a wide range of applications. The sensor devices are usually attached to physical objects, providing a real-time, interactive view of the physical world. Although much progress has been made at the system and sensing level, applications for these platforms are considerably lagging behind. Without compelling applications, the vision of the Internet of Things will not be realized. The 2015 International Workshop on Internet of Things towards Applications ( IoT-App'15) aims to provide a forum for researchers to present thoughts and results on IoT applications. We are looking for application descriptions, development, experiences and evaluation in a wide range of domains including, but not limited to homes, offices, medical care, vehicles, transportation, supply chains and education. Particularly, we are interested in identifying new applications that are made possible by the Internet of Things, as well as new challenges these applications will pose to the design of an Internet of Things. TOPICS of INTEREST = Novel IoT applications and services = Application-driven IoT middleware = Mobility and network connectivity in IoT applications = Cloud and/or cloudlet support for IoT applications = Machine learning, data mining and big data analytics = Energy efficiency = Security and privacy = Experiences in developing and deploying operational IoT applications and services We invite technical papers describing original ideas, ground-breaking results, and/or real-world experiences involving innovative IoT applications. Successful submissions will elaborate one or multiple desirable properties as follows: 1) Provide a quantitative analysis of outstanding systems challenges highlighted by the application; 2) Have a quantitative estimate of cost savings relative to the status quo; 3) Make a compelling case that the application will be disruptive. Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, clarity, relevance, and correctness. In addition to citing relevant, published work, authors must cite and relate their submissions to relevant prior publications of the their own. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Submitted papers must be no longer than 6 single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages in PDF format, including figures, tables, and references, two-column format, using 10-point font and 1 inch margin. These types of networks consist of a number of autonomous or semi-autonomous wireless nodes/objects moving with diverse patterns and speeds while communicating via several radio interfaces simultaneously. Examples of such objects include smartphones and other user mobile devices, robots, cars, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors, actuators, etc., which are connected in some way to each other and to the Internet. With every object acting as a networking node generating, relaying and/or absorbing data, these networks may serve as a supplementary infrastructure for the provision of smart, ubiquitous, highly contextualized and customized services and applications available anytime-anywhere-anyhow. Achieving this will require global interworking and interoperability amongst objects, which is not typical today. To overcome current shortcomings, a number of research challenges have to be addressed in this area, ranging from initial conceptualization and modelling, to protocols and architectures engineering, and development of suitable tools, applications and services, and to the elaboration of realistic use-case scenarios by taking into account also corresponding societal and economical aspects. The goal of this special issue is to bring together the state-of-the-art research contribution that describes original and unpublished work addressing the wireless communications and networking issues to support moving objects. In the mean time, the convergence of the physical, cyber, and social spaces will exhibit a variety of complicated characteristics, which brings more open issues and challenges for research communities. Scope and Topics A. Networks and Networked Systems where intelligent entities exchange information to achieve improved overall performance for both cyber and physical components. Particular areas of interests include: ? sensor, vehicular, robot, camera, aerial and social smartphone networks ? wireless networking technologies and autonomous ad hoc networks ? internet of things and machine-to-machine communications ? networked infrastructure management with applications such as smart power grids and transportation systems ? network enabled computation, coordination, and actuation ? scalability of complex networks B. Modelling and Control where mathematical and computational methods are developed and applied to facilitate innovative design, in-depth analysis, and novel insights of the fundamental principles. Particular areas of interests include: ? control theory with a clear cyber-physical tone such as networked control, distributed optimization, and distributed learning ? autonomy with applications in mobile sensor networks, internet connected cars, etc. ? modelling of tightly integrated physical processes, software, computation platforms, and networks C. Data Management where novel methods are developed to reliably gather, store, transfer, and analyse large amount of data and dataflow. A rich algorithm and protocol ecosystem has emerged too, enabling various applications with very different requirements. At the same time, real deployments of wireless sensor networks still prove to be cumbersome and not sufficiently automated. Even the best known and used algorithms and protocols need to be carefully manually tuned, in order to adapt to the environment and the application. Recently other sensing networks and applications have emerged, such as mobile sensing, crowd sensing, smartphone sensing, cyber physical systems, the Internet of Things, etc. Even if their concepts and approaches differ from each other, the real-world problems apply similarly and even extend to challenges like keeping up the interest of human users, enabling privacy and security, etc. Thus, this issue of RealWSN will extend its focus to include all relevant sensing applications. The purpose of RealWSN is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments of wireless sensor networks. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit original contributions which aim to tackle the problem of development and deployment of sensing applications in the real world. ================== Workshop Scope: ================== The targeted topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to: - Experiences from real-world sensing application deployments - Software tools for characterisation, parametrisation and automatisation of sensing applications - Datasets gathered from real sensing applications - Negative results and unsuccessful deployments - Works in progress and not yet solved issues - Management of faulty and malicious data in the real world Sensing applications include, but are not limited to: - Wireless sensor and actuator networks - Mobile sensing, smartphone sensing - Crowd sensing - Cyber physical systems - Internet of Things ================== Submission Guidelines: ================== Short papers (max 4 pages) together with all relevant documentation (source code, trace files, etc.) should be submitted by July 26th, 2015. The primary role of ICT in enabling this vision is to keep the decision makers, the stake holders and the citizen constantly updated with fresh information collected around the city. To accomplish this task, next generation cities, will be populated with billions of heterogeneous devices ranging from tiny communicating objects (e.g., actuators, sensors, tags) able to interact with the surrounding environment and remote systems, to high-end nodes (e.g., data centers, workstations) capable of complex operations and to process a huge amount of information. In this futuristic scenario a very special role is played by citizens with their smartphones, tablets and portable devices. They are constantly connected with whatever surroundings them and they are formidable information consumers. Their role however does not end here. Smartphones, in fact, are very powerful devices with constantly increasing processing, communication and sensing capabilities and very recently, a large plethora of proposals have emerged to leverage those capabilities to contribute to the information production process. For instance, citizens roaming around the city may be considered as mobile probes which, by making uses of cyber and physical data accessible by smartphones, can analyze the situation and produce reports to the community. Furthermore smarthphones can actively contributing in creating the communication infrastructure by forwarding data coming from surrounding devices. All in all, cities are going to became a new complex ecosystem which has the potentiality to offer many amazing feature and support innovative application. Unfortunately, fully exploiting, managing and accessing that ecosystem are still far to be fully viable and their fulfillment surely poses a formidable challenge. This Special Issue aims to solicit contributions on novel algorithms, methodological studies and experimentation on how to address the formerly highlighted issues. Specifically on how devise a city-wide networking infrastructure capable to efficiently guarantee communication in the new envisaged ecosystem, to manage the complexity of heterogeneous devices and access technologies, and to guarantee robust, ubiquitous, and secure connectivity over the urban environments. At the same time, beside studying the issues of the city-wide infrastructure deployment, the workshop aims to investigate the potential provided by the end-users devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets) when augmented in order to turn them into active components of the smart-city ecosystem, instead of mere connection end-points. Such a potential includes the possibility to extend the network access in a pervasive way, to provide ubiquitous computing services, and to favor the emergence of "collective intelligence behaviors" through collaboration and direct communication among devices. Moving away from the Internet's legacy host-to-host communication model, CCN/NDN promises a new host-to-data communication model, by leveraging named data, name-based routing and in-network storage for caching. At the same time, the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), with its rich set of challenges and requirements placed upon the current Internet, provide an interesting ground for showcasing the contribution and performance of CCN mechanisms. This special session calls for recent research, practical experiences, and development lessons on the intersection of the paradigms of CCN and IoT. The objective is to promote the integration of Content Centric Networking and Internet of Things by addressing the unique problems in IoT, such as mobility, interference of wireless channel, limitation of storage and battery, security and privacy. Novel applications, practical experience and solutions on deploying CCN over IoT are also welcome. The Special Session on Content Centric Internet of Things (CCIoT) seeks original contributions in the following topical areas, plus others that are not explicitly listed but are closely related: * Content-centric network architecture for IoT * RFID-based naming strategy * Information publish/subscribe mechanism for data collection * Routing in wireless CCN * Resource management such as power, computing, storage, bandwidth, and user interface * Context-aware networking for smart home, health care, transportation, etc. * Novel application, prototype or solution in consumer networks with CCN * Security, privacy, and trust in CCN over IoT * Contextual communication in IoT applications SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS We encourage submissions of high-quality technical papers reporting original research that has not been previously published, and is not currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. In the modern computation centers, traditional distributed applications may coexist with others that become more and more time-sensitive (cross-border surveillance and object tracking, net gaming, remote video streaming, etc.), and this tends to happen in a virtualized infrastructure. The design of distributed reliable systems must take into account the selection and evaluation of interaction models, software technology choices, temporal behaviour, resource efficiency, performance, scalability, and coordination. In addition, this track calls for dynamic middleware solutions capable of taking context-aware resource management decisions in order to enforce the most appropriate quality levels depending on application SLAs and overall (possibly clustered) visibility of resource status. These solutions are particularly challenging when dealing with large-scale open deployment environments and their associated scalability issues. Novel and relevant application domains push for evolution and disruptive research in this field; only to mention a few, middleware solutions for datacenter resource management optimization for quality-aware online stream processing of big data flows, energy-aware middleware for resource management in smart city/smart grid deployment environments, middleware for cloud-hosted cyber-physical systems with strict requirements on latency and reliability. Complex Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures, critical dependencies and unforeseen cascading effects can worsen single hazard events to a threatening crisis of several entire infrastructures. With the dense population in urban areas along with the critical dependency on infrastructures, such crises become a serious threat to the safety and security of citizens and industries. When the "unforeseen" happens, public security comes to its limits Whether cyber, natural or industrial disasters - effective risk management must be a continuous process that recognizes new threats and opportunities, in particular in relation to new technological evolutions. Internet of Things (IoT) will have an enormous impact on our future infrastructures. In the context of safety and security this is at the same time a challenge (How can we design secure and resilient IoT infrastructures?) and an opportunity (How can we use IoT for better safety and security?). In particular in urban environments, the increasing deployments of IoT technologies and the rapid proliferation of sensored and automated cities are opening up new avenues of threats and opportunities toward public safety and security. Although we have seen various deployments of diverse IoT systems, our understanding of these systems and their implications in the context of safety and security has just scratched the surface. The Second International Conference on Safety and Security with IoT (SaSeIoT 2015) aims to explore these dynamics within the scope of IoT in the context of Safety and Security. Eine Einführung (Howto) wird in den Autoren Hinweisen angeboten. Beiträge bitte im Word- und PDF-Format einreichen. ## Publikationsformat Beiträge bitte in Form eines Extended Abstract (max. zwei Seiten) bis zum 10. August über [Easychair](https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lbas15) einreichen. Es sind Beiträge in deutscher oder englischer Sprache erwünscht. Konferenzsprache ist Deutsch. Nach dem Fachgespräch werden Teilnehmer gebeten, ihre Beiträge als Vollpublikation einzureichen, die in einem Tagungsband mit ISBN veröffentlicht wird.
