Dear Prof. Wolf,
Please be informed of the following call for papers, which may fall under your interests:
=========================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
PWSN 2014
6th International Workshop on Performance Control in Wireless Sensor Networks
http://www.netrl.cs.ucy.ac.cy/pwsn2014/
May 28 2014, Marina Del Rey, California, USA
In conjunction with the 10th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '14)
=========================================================================
Most existing wireless sensor network (WSN) installations have in common that they are not considered time-critical. No immediate action has to be undertaken as a response to the received data. However, many emerging WSN applications such as plant automation and control, smart cities or health care applications require immediate and guaranteed actions. In such environments, data has to be transported reliably and in time through the sensor network. In some scenarios, data even has to travel through the sensor network and the Internet to reach the destination. In this situation the overall system spanning the Internet and sensor networks must provide together the required performance characteristics. Due to the lack of appropriate models, components and protocols, it is currently very difficult to construct and operate a WSN with performance guarantees. Thus, the commercial success of wireless sensor networks in many application areas is unsure unless this particular problem is
understood and solved.
The PWSN workshop aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners designing and deploying sensor networks that have to meet specific performance targets.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
--------------------------------------------------
• Communication protocols with deterministic performance
• Network resilience, fault tolerance, network survivability
• Sensor data quality, integrity, and availability
• Performance-aware middleware
• Real-time operating systems for sensor networks
• Actuation and control
• Programming abstractions for deterministic sensor networks
• Impact of security features on network performance
• Experience with real-world deployments and applications
• Performance management of deployed sensor networks
• Timely data storage, retrieval, and processing
• Performance modelling and performance evaluation
• Configuration and installation support
• Performance debugging and performance optimization

IEEE INTERNET OF THINGS JOURNAL
A joint publication of
IEEE Sensors Council, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Computer Society,
and IEEE Signal Processing Society
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on Internet of Vehicles (IoV)
The new era of Internet of Things (IoT) is driving the evolution of
conventional Vehicle Ad hoc Networks (VANET) into the Internet of Vehicles
(IoV) paradigm. According to recent predictions,
25 billion of "things" will be connected to the Internet by 2020 among
which vehicles will constitute a significant portion. The difference of the
vehicle concept in VANET and IoV makes these two scenarios essentially
different in the device, communications, networking, and services aspects.
In VANET, a vehicle is mainly considered as a node to disseminate messages
among vehicles. In the IoV paradigm, each vehicle is considered as a smart
object equipped with a powerful multi-sensor platform, communications
technologies, computation units, IP-based connectivity to the Internet and
to other vehicles either directly or indirectly. In addition, a vehicle in
IoV is envisioned as a multi-communication model, enabling the interactions
between intra-vehicle components, vehicles and vehicles, vehicles and road,
and vehicles and people. IoV enables the acquistion and processing of large
amount of data from versatile geographical areas via intelligent vehicles
computing platforms to offer various categories of services for road safety
and other services to drivers and passengers.
There are many unprecedented challenges to realize IoV. A typical challenge
is the big data processing and storage in IoV due to huge number of
connected vehicles. Personal cloud and mobile cloud computing are
envisioned to play important roles in dealing with the big data. The
seamless integration of the social context into IoV is a promising approach
as well as an important question to achieve green transport. In addition,
the wide penetration of electrical vehicles in the near future will demand
a very careful consideration on the intelligent interactions between IoV
and the smart grid. Here, the interactions are not limited to the
communications and computation, but the power load scheduling within the
demand response management framework in the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) network.
All these issues are being studied in academics, industries, and
standardization organizations.
This special issue is seeking original contributions on IoV, sharing the
research efforts and deployment challenges in this area and discussing IoV
challenges, key enabling techniques, platforms and field trails. Topics of
interests include (but are not limited to):
* IoV architectures and services
* Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) communications
* V2G efficient demand response management
* Vehicle social networks for IoV
* Mobile cloud computing for IoV
* Efficient big data analysis for IoV
* Mobile sensing networking in IoV
* Driverless vehicles and supporting technologies
* Dynamic spectrum access technologies in IoV
* IoV for efficient and green transportation
* Urban sensing for environment monitoring
* Security, privacy and trust in IoV
* Novel applications and business models
* Testbed platform and field trials
* New network technologies for efficient service provision (e.g.,
content-centric network)

IEEE Internet of Things Journal Special Issue on Internet of Things for
Smart and Connected Health
http://iot-journal.weebly.com/uploads/1/8/8/0/18809834/ieee_iot_journal_si_…
A joint publication of IEEE Sensors Council, IEEE Communications
Society, IEEE Computer Society, and IEEE Signal Processing Society
Smart and connected health (SCH) is the multidisciplinary technology to
provide preventive or remote treatments by utilizing digital heath
information structure such as body sensor networks and smart techniques
such as from Data to Knowledge to Decisions. It will enable preventive
care, clinic-centric to patient-centered practice by applying diverse
Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in sensors, computing, networking
and communication, and can allow the individuals to participate in their
own care. Future SCH will be realized by providing rich medical
information to each individual through replacing infrequent,
clinic-based measurements with unobtrusive, continuous sensing,
monitoring and assessment.
The development of SCH will play a key role in the modern society to
meet the broad goals of medical applications. However, significant
challenges still remain in the area. For example, lack of medical
baseline data for each particular individual. The IoT technology such as
continuous sensing mobile communication can be employed to create
individualized baselines. The theme of the special issue (SI) is
especially focused on the two major aspects of IoT for SCH: (1)
monitoring and assisting individuals utilizing smart systems including
sensors, devices, and robotics, (2) an interoperable digital health
information infrastructure to increase medical/health information
availability and use. The outputs of SCH with IoT could significantly
improve a person's outcomes and quality of life. Findings from the SI
will provide support for enabling IoT to move the focus from disease to
health and wellbeing at the individual, system, and organizational level
in many SCH applications. We encourage submissions on theoretical,
practical, as well as experimental studies, from both academia and
industry, related to all aspects of IoT for SCH. Topics of interests
include (but are not limited to) the following categories:
* Digital Health Information Infrastructure for SCH
* Healthcare Applications of Body Area Networks
* Communication Protocols and Algorithms for SCH
* Medical Sensors, Devices and Robotics
* Privacy, Security and Trust of Medical Systems
* Computer-Aided Diagnosis
* Data To Knowledge To Decisions for SCH
* Data Visualization and Intelligent Integration for Decision-Making
* Mobile Social Sensing for Wireless Health
* Bioimaging
* Integrated Systems for Telemedicine
* Clinical Practice and Technology Development
* Cloud-Assisted Medical Cyber-Physical Systems
* Body Area Networks for Sports Applications and Systems
* Mobile Computing for Smart Health and Well Being
* Nano-Scale Communications and Networking for SCH
* Smart Health and Big Data
* Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Robustness of Healthcare Systems

We are pleased to invite you to submit your paper to Special Issue on "Reliable and secure VANETs" in IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing. Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) has gained a significant attention during the last decades both from industrial and academia communities. Novel VANET-enabled active safety automotive applications are heavily dependent on reliability and security of underlying inter-vehicle communication protocols. The error-prone nature of the wireless channel and its openness to external invasions as well as dynamic VANET environment, impose the need for intensive studies before applications like platooning or collision avoidance can become a part of our daily life. The aim of this special issue is to encompass research advances in all areas of reliability and security in VANETs. We welcome contributions relating to novel protocols for reliable and secure vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication as well as methods for
their performance evaluation. This special issue intends to provide a venue for interested researchers and practitioners to share their novel research results.
Topics of interest (include but are not limited to)
• Quality of service in VANETs and cross-layer optimization
• Safety-critical inter-vehicle communications
• Availability, performability, and survivability
• IEEE 802.11p/1609 protocols
• Performance evaluation methods and tools
• Field monitoring and measurement
• Misbehavior detection and mitigation in VANETs
• Intrusion tolerance and attack models in VANETs
• Privacy-enhancing technologies for vehicular communication systems
• Cryptographic protocols and algorithms, and their security
• System architecture and design for reliable and secure VANETs
• Mobile cloud computing enabled reliability and security for VANETs
• Information-centric networking (ICN) reliability and security support for VANETs
Important Dates
• Manuscript submission deadline: June 30th, 2014
• First notification date: August 15th, 2014
• Expected publication date: Nov/Dec 2014
Papers must be written in English and describe original research not published or currently under review by other journals or conferences. All relevant papers submitted will go through an external, rigorous review process.
