NOM 2013 Call for Papers
The 2nd Workshop on Name-Oriented Mobility (NOM): Architectures, Algorithms, and Applications
in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2014
April 28 or May 2, 2014
Toronto, Canada
http://www.ieee-infocom.org/2014/Workshops_NOM.html
********************************************************************************
The second edition of the NOM workshop will be held on May 2nd 2014 in conjunction with the IEEE INFOCOM 2014
conference after the great success of its first edition that was held with the ACM MobiHoc 2013 conference. The NOM
workshop is particularly interested in Information Centric Network (ICN) advances in support of the mobile and wireless space.
Name-oriented network architectures appear very promising for wireless and mobile networks, such as for instance
IoT among wireless and mobile devices that could not scale well up till now, home networks among wireless and mobile
hand held devices that constitute the majority of end-users devices, wireless sensor networks for smart spaces and vehicular
networks which account a large, and exponentially increasing number of devices and connections that clearly suffer from
the lack of mobility management in the IP architecture and the lack of an efficient data storage and sharing mean. Moreover,
within the context of multimedia and video services and the huge demand for highly scalable and efficient distribution of
content, ICN is promising in offering an alternative or complementing to the proprietary or specialized content distribution
mechanisms, such as CDN and P2P systems, and aims for improved content access through general Internet mechanisms for
content replication and dissemination among not only core network devices but also wireless edge network devices and
wireless and mobile end-users devices.
We encourage submissions of high quality technical papers on mobile and wireless ICN work in the following topics:
- ICN mobile/wireless architectures and platforms
- Compelling applications and services for ICN for wireless and mobile networks (IoT, smart environments, home networks, ……)
- ICN deployment models for wireless and mobile networks (Clean-slate, evolutionary, …)
- Technical deployment of ICN into operational networks (specialized hardware ICN routers, ICN software into virtualized nodes, etc.)
- ICN scalability to high density network deployments (e.g. for IoT applications)
- Impact of ICN on mobile/wireless protocols and systems
- Mobility management in ICN considering multiple radio technologies
- ICN support for seamless and simultaneous connectivity across multiple links
- ICN tolerance to disruption in wireless and mobile links
- Policy management with ICN
- ICN in relation to CDNs and Cloud Services
- Cooperation between ICN and CDN networks
- Standardization efforts impacting mobile ICN
- Data naming and Objects Identification in wireless and mobile networks
- Radio resources management and congestion control
- Context-awareness in ICN
- Intelligent in-network Caching in ICN for better network resources optimization and user experience
- ICN role in wireless and mobile User Experience
- ICN Security and Privacy
- Forwarding strategies in wireless and mobile ICN
- Performance evaluation for wireless and mobile ICNs

Aims and Scope:
==============
Wireless Sensor Networks are nowadays an extended engineering technology
for many markets due to the great amount of their possibilities in
collecting data from complex environments and processing them for
different purposes. Nevertheless, this interest is not enough to apply
this kind of networks as trustworthy solution for many real-world
environments, such as industrial processes and critical infrastructures,
where high reliability is required, together with other related key
aspects as energy, security and efficiency. Many companies could
overcome their reluctances if economic, reliable and easily deployed
solutions are provided in this field. In this scenario, the heuristics
and computational intelligence play an important role to solve many
involved optimization problems, doing necessary the research on advanced
solutions that result in a successful product. In this sense, there are
many challenges, trends and open possibilities in this area that deserve
to be known. In this special issue, we seek original, high quality
articles, clearly focused on theoretical or practical aspects of the
heuristics and mathematical optimization methods for obtaining reliable
and efficient wireless sensor networks, including but not limited to the
topics shown below.
Topics of Interest:
==================
The topics related to heuristics for reliable and efficient Wireless
Sensor Networks deployments that are relevant to this special issue
include but are not limited to:
* Energy minimization aspects: network lifetime and power savings.
* Efficient networks deployments.
* Heuristics and computational intelligence applied for solving
optimization problems.
* Multiobjective optimization problems.
* Fault tolerance and quality of service.
* Robust routing algorithms, network protocols and operating systems.
* Security and privacy aspects of the communications.
* Microprocessors, circuits, and embedded applications.
* Application cases, user studies and experiences.
Papers must be tailored to the problem of the wireless sensor networks
and explicitly consider heuristics and mathematical optimization
methods. The editors maintain the right to reject papers they deem to be
out of scope of this special issue. Only originally unpublished
contributions and invited articles will be considered for the issue.
Authors should submit their manuscripts through Editorial Manager
http://www.editorialmanager.com/heur/, selecting "SI - HREWSN" as the
article type.

** OVERVIEW*
Current wireless networks are reaching a level of complexity in which
conventional models and design tools are no longer valid, and fail to
provide the ever-growing performance requirements in terms of peak rates
and mobility that users demand nowadays. Delay constraints, scaling
laws, parameter estimation (e.g., in massive MIMO networks),
interference management and modeling techniques, and distributed
implementations are some of the challenging aspects to be researched for
next-generation wireless networks. This calls for creative
cross-disciplinary methods to analyze, model, understand, and design
algorithms for future wireless networks, which will be characterized by
denser and heterogeneous deployments.
Recently, there have been several fruitful insights and approaches
inspired from the areas of physics and mathematics, including
statistical mechanics, elementary particle physics, algebraic and
stochastic geometry, machine learning, electrostatics, game theory, and
random matrix theory, among others. This interdisciplinary workshop aims

SCOPE
The recent wave of sensor-rich, Internet-enabled, smart mobile devices has
opened the door for a novel paradigm for monitoring the urban landscape
known as participatory sensing. Using this paradigm, ordinary citizens
can collect multi- modal data streams (e.g., audio, video, sound,
location coordinates, etc.) from the surrounding environment using their
mobile devices and share the same using existing communication
infrastructure (e.g., cellular services or WiFi access points). The
data contributed from multiple participants can be combined to build a
spatiotemporal view of the phenomenon of interest and also to extract
important community statistics. Given the ubiquity of mobile phones and
the high density of people in metropolitan areas, participatory sensing
can
achieve an unprecedented level of coverage in both space and time for
observing events of interest in urban spaces.
The Participatory Sensing and Crowdsourcing symposium at ISSNIP 2014 is
designed to attract diverse participation from researchers and
practitioners
working at the leading edge in participatory sensing and crowdsourcing
technologies. This necessarily covers a broad spectrum of topics,
representative of the cross-cutting nature of the area -- from novel
applications, to making sense of large-scale sensor data, to human computer
interaction, to practical experiments.
We solicit original and unpublished manuscripts on various aspects of
participatory sensing, including (but not limited to) the following
topics:
- Novel applications
- Participatory sensing, opportunistic sensing and crowdsourcing paradigms
- Middleware support and programming models
- Mining large scale multi-modal sensor data
- Intersections with cloud technologies
- Interactions between mobile devices and humans
- Novel user interfaces
- Energy-efficient sensing
- Activity recognition and high-level inferences
- User privacy issues
- Incentive mechanisms to motivate participation
- Assessing data trustworthiness
- Synergies between online social networks and participatory sensing
- Application deployment issues and experiences with large-scale deployment

*CALL FOR PAPERS*
Elsevier Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal
*Special Issue on the Internet of Things*
*Deadline: November 15, 2013*
http://goo.gl/cMLfsU
SCOPE
-----
In recent years, Internet has become increasingly ubiquitous. Besides
allowing people to connect anytime and everywhere, the Internet is evolving
into the communication medium for objects that are embedded in the physical
world. The coupling between such objects and a worldwide standard-based
communication infrastructure constitutes the Internet of Things (IoT) and is
characterized by machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. The IoT enables a
detailed characterization of the physical environment, as well as a rich set
of interactions with the physical world. As such, the IoT has the potential
to revolutionize pervasive computing and its applications. Indeed, the
realization of a ubiquitous IoT poses several challenges about seamless
integration, heterogeneity, scalability, mobility, and many others.
This special issue solicits high-quality papers presenting original research
results on the IoT that are tightly related to pervasive and ubiquitous
scenarios. Submissions could consist of theoretical and applied research in
topics including, but not limited to:
* System architectures for the IoT targeted to pervasive scenarios
* Adaptive and autonomic computing in the IoT
* Middleware and service platforms for ubiquitous IoT applications
* Security and privacy in pervasive IoT scenarios
* Ubiquitous computing solutions exploiting the M2M paradigm
* Context awareness in the IoT
* Mobility management in the IoT and in M2M communications
* Experiences in building ubiquitous IoT platforms
* Pervasive applications built on top of the IoT
* Enabling technologies and standards for the IoT and M2M communications
* Sustainable design and solutions for the IoT
All submissions must be prepared according to the Guide for Authors as
published by the Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal
(http://www.elsevier.com/locate/pmc). Authors should select the SI: Internet
of Things, from the pull-down menu during the submission process. All
contributions must not have been previously published or be under
consideration for publication elsewhere. A submission based on one or more
conference papers that appeared elsewhere must have major value-added
extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). In
this case, authors are requested to submit their relevant previously
published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made
in the journal version.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks Journal
"Routing in Smart Grid Communication Networks"
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/ad-hoc-networks
------------------------------------------------------------
With the recent initiatives to upgrade the existing power grid to a Smart
Grid, there has been a significant interest in the design and development
of an efficient communication infrastructure for connecting different
components of the Smart Grid. In addition to currently used underlying
networks and protocols, new wired/wireless networks and protocols are
planned to be deployed for different components/applications of the Smart
Grid. Based on the data requirements of the applications, new challenges
have arisen at the network layer of the protocol stack with respect to
routing and data forwarding.
Smart Grid is expected to be a multi-tier network supported by a hybrid
mesh of different communications technologies to provide efficient and
reliable access to grid components in diverse environments. Mainly, there
will be three components of this multi-tier network which can be deploying
a variety of communications networks. These networks are known as Home
Area Network (HAN)/ Field Area Networks (FAN), Neighborhood Area Network
(NAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Recent research on Smart Grid mostly
focused on the security and privacy aspects of its applications. While
some of the current routing protocols designed for wireless networks can
be partially used in some of the Smart Grid networks, unique
characteristics of Smart Grid applications as well as the large-scale size
of the infrastructure necessitates new research at the network layer.
In particular, there are several key issues need to be addressed in order
to support network interconnectivity across the Smart Grid communication
infrastructure that consists of HANs, NANs and WANs. For instance,
scalability is an issue if a wireless infrastructure is to be used given
that current wireless networking protocols are geared for small-size
networks. In this respect, employment of power-line communications
requires careful adaptation of the current routing protocols to address
interference issues on power-lines. Another important issue is security
since Smart Grid will consist of multiple-interconnected networks with
diverse underlying communication technology, ownership and management. The
availability and reliability of the Smart Grid as well as certain privacy
information such as power usage data from each household need to be
protected en route to the destination. Furthermore, the communication
infrastructure will require status monitoring, fault detection, isolation,
and recovery that pertain to rerouting. Finally, the ability to uniquely
identify elements in the network and routing capabilities to all network
end points for a wide range of applications with different quality of
service (QoS) requirements will need to be addressed.
The goal of this special issue is to collect papers in the area of routing
in several networks of Smart Grid with different goals, characteristics
and limitations. We solicit papers which will address routing challenges
that are unique to Smart Grid and address major issues such as security,
privacy, reliability, QoS, interference and scalability which pertain to
Smart Grid applications.
In particular, the topics of interest include but are not limited to
- Scalable routing protocols for NANs and FANs
- Efficient routing protocols in HANs
- Novel routing protocols in powerline communications
- Adaptation of existing routing protocols for powerline communications
- QoS routing on NANs for Demand Response and WASA (Wide Area Situational
Awareness) applications
- Secure routing protocols in HANs and NANs
- Reliable routing in lossy environments
- User privacy and routing trade-offs in HANs and NANs
- QoS and security tradeoffs in routing HANs and NANs
- Interoperability, standardization and node heterogeinty in routing
across HANs, NANs and WANs
- Node placement and routing performance issues
- Routing protocols for fault-detection and recovery
- Data aggregation and routing
- Cross-layer routing via multiple channels and MIMO
- Routing experiences in testbeds and real-life applications
- Support for aggregation and disaggregation of Smart Grid data in support
for temporal and spatial visibility
- In-network processing and sharing of distributed generation and
renewable energy source and its communications infrastructure
- Routing support for bad data detection
- Interference and routing interrelations and techniques to mitigate the
performance Degradations
- Routing techniques to deal with massive data from Intelligent Electronic
Devices (IEDs) and smart meters
