IEEE International Conference on Communications
IEEE ICC 2014
Communications: The Centrepoint of Digital Economy
16 - 20 June 2014, Sydney, Australia
Communications and Information Systems Security Symposium (CISS)
The 2014 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) will be
held in the beautiful city of Sydney, Australia between 16 and 20 June
2014. The theme of this flagship conference of IEEE Communications
Society for 2014 is “Communications: The Centrepoint of Digital
Economy.” The conference will feature a comprehensive technical
program including twelve Symposia and a number of Tutorials and
Workshops. IEEE ICC 2014 will also include an attractive expo program
including keynote speakers, and Industry Forum & Exhibitions (IF&E).
We invite you to submit your original technical papers, industry
forum, workshop, and tutorial proposals to this event. Accepted and
presented papers will be published in the IEEE ICC 2014 Conference
Proceedings and in IEEE Xplore®. Full details of submission procedures
are available at http://www.ieee-icc.org/2014.
Scope and Topics of Interest:
The Communications and Information Systems Security Symposium (CISS)
will focus on all aspects of security, privacy, trust, and risk
management, which pose a serious challenge to today's globally
connected society. The symposium welcomes novel contributions on
evaluation, modeling, analysis, and design of communication and
information systems security solutions, from the physical layer to the
application layer. In addition, this year’s CISS puts a stronger
emphasis on network oriented security and privacy, such as security
related topics of cloud computing, networking related security in Big
Data, IoT, and so on.
To ensure complete coverage of the advances in communication and
information systems security, the topics of interest of the CISS
include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
- Anonymity, anonymous communication
- Anonymity metrics and their performance analysis
- Authentication protocols and message authentication
- Authorization and access control
- Availability and survivability of secure services and systems
- Big Data security and privacy
- Biometric security

CALL FOR PAPERS
The key components of many pervasive systems and applications are already
deployed in the form of ubiquitous commercial products carried by humans.
Human mobility makes it possible for such key components to interact,
promoting cooperation and sharing of content, services and resources.
Smartphones, tablet PCs, and other personal devices act as mobile computing
elements able to gather information about the surrounding environment
according to the mobility of users. In other situations these devices
operate as mobile nodes of the computing and/or networking infrastructure,
where interaction and communication occur opportunistically.
The goal of PerMoby is to explore the impact of human mobility on the
achievement of the pervasive computing vision. The focus is on pervasive
applications, systems, and protocols where mobility plays an active role
in achieving the end goals.
Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of
human-centric applications and systems are solicited. Papers describing
prototype implementations and deployment of such applications and systems
are particularly welcome. The submission of papers on controversial issues
is also encouraged. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- pervasive systems and applications based on (or influenced by) human
mobility
- mobile phone sensing applications and systems
- opportunistic and participatory sensing, and anything in between
- opportunistic computing
- pervasive systems with humans in the loop
- wearable sensing systems
- mobility models
- distributed computing approaches that rely on human mobility
- impact of human mobility on wireless communication
- green pervasive applications that leverage human mobility
- mobility aware protocols
- opportunistic networking
- pervasive social networking
PUBLICATION AND INDEXING
Papers are published in the combined proceedings of the IEEE PerCom
Workshops and will appear on IEEExplore.
According to Google’s metrics, such proceedings are characterised by
high values of h5 index and h5-median index, respectively equal to 32 and
43. This makes the IEEE PerCom Workshops one of the publication venues
with higher visibility and impact in the area of pervasive computing.
In the last years, the IEEE PerCom Workshops proceedings have always been
indexed by Scopus. Besides appearing within the database, a paper that
is published in the IEEE PerCom Workshops is both a “source” and a
“destination” for the Scopus citation managing system (and thus it
contributes to the author’s h-index and citation count, as computed
by Scopus).
PAPER SUBMISSION
Papers should contain original material and should not be previously
published or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts
are limited to a maximum of 6 pages in IEEE conference format. At least
one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop
to present the paper. There is no workshop-only registration. An oral
presentation at the workshop is strictly required. Failure to present
the paper at the workshop will result in the withdrawal of the paper
from the proceedings as well as from IEEE Xplore. Paper submission via
EDAS at http://edas.info/N15441.

CALL FOR PAPERS
ACM MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS CONFERENCE (MMSYS 2014)
MARCH 19-21, 2014, SINGAPORE.
The ACM Multimedia Systems conference provides a forum for
researchers, engineers, and scientist to present and share
their latest research findings in multimedia systems. While
research about specific aspects of multimedia systems is
regularly published in the various proceedings and
transactions of the networking, operating system, real-time
system, and database communities, MMSys aims to cut across
these domains in the context of multimedia data types. This
provides a unique opportunity to view the intersections and
interplay of the various approaches and solutions developed
across these domains to deal with multimedia data types.
Furthermore, MMSys provides an avenue for communicating
research that addresses multimedia systems holistically.
Multimedia systems permeate many aspects of our daily life,
and are steadily developed further. MMSys is a venue for
researchers who explore:
- Complete multimedia systems that provide a new kind of
multimedia experience or systems whose overall performance
improves the state-of-the-art through new research results
in one of more components, or
- Enhancements to one or more system components that provide
a documented improvement over the state-of-the-art for
handling continuous media or time-dependent services.
Such individual system components include:
- Operating systems
- Distributed architectures and protocol enhancements
- Domain languages, development tools and abstraction layers
- Using new architectures or computing resources for multimedia
- New or improved I/O architectures or I/O devices,
innovative uses and algorithms for their operation
- Representation of continuous or time-dependent media
- Metrics, measures and measurement tools to assess performance
This touches aspects of many hot topics: DASH, games,
virtual environments, augmented reality, 3D video, immersive
systems, telepresence, multi- and many-core, GPGPUs, mobile
streaming, P2P, Clouds, cyber-physical systems – explore the
connections on http://www.mmsys.org
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 members
of the technical program committee. Full papers will be
evaluated for their scientific quality. Accepted papers must
reach a high scientific standard and document unpublished
research.
Best papers' authors will be invited to submit a modified
version of their contribution to the ACM TOMCCAP
(Transaction on Multimedia Computing, Communications and
Applications) journal.
Student travel grants are available for a limited number of
full-time student participants attending the conference.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Papers should be between 6 and 12 pages long (in PDF format)
prepared in the ACM style and written in English.
The unusual length of MMSys papers is meant to enable
authors to present entire multimedia systems or present
research work that builds on considerable amounts of earlier
work in a self-contained manner. MMSys papers are published
in the ACM Digital Library; they are available for just as
long as journal papers and authors should not feel compelled
by space limitations to publish extended works on top of an
MMSys paper. Authors who submit very specific, detailed
research work that does not require such brevity are
encouraged to use less than 12 pages.
The submission site is open:
http://liubei.ddns.comp.nus.edu.sg/mmsys2014/index
IMPORTANT DATES
Full Paper Submission Deadline: September 27, 2013

> Device-to-Device (D2D) communications as an underlay for wireless cellular networks is viewed as a key technology for providing seamless, high-quality wireless access in next-generation wireless systems. The D2D concept is built around the idea of allowing the wireless devices to communicate with one another via direct D2D links over licensed or unlicensed spectrum. Unlike traditional short-range D2D technologies such as Bluetooth or Zigbee, D2D in cellular systems is expected to provide high capacity and guaranteed QoS over long ranges. D2D is also expected to lead to novel wireless applications such as proximity services and robust public safety communications. Indeed, D2D is seen as a key feature of 5G wireless systems. However, reaping the benefits of D2D requires handling several challenges such as interference management, self-organization, network discovery, and resource allocation, among others.
>

> Context-aware communication and computing have attracted increasing attention since it allows automatic adaptation of devices, systems, and applications to the changing user’s context. The context is the information characterizing the situation of an entity and providing information about the present status of people, places, things and devices in the environment. An entity is a person, device, place, or object relevant to the interaction between a user and an application, such as location, time, activities, and services. Context awareness allows for customization or creation of the application to match the preferences of the individual user, based on current context such as enterprise environment or home network.
> A first area of interest concerns the Person Context Awareness. The recent emergence of the so-called social networks, the widespread presence of smartphones equipped by heterogeneous sensors, such as GPS receivers, accelerometers, compasses, microphones and cameras, and the availability of geo-referenced information enable analysis of new context definitions that may concern individual, social, and urban scenarios. Indeed, recently, the available information may include mobility patterns of people and also physical activities (movements), physical status, and emotional conditions. This information is often acquired and shared, in real time, by users. Allowing the reliable extraction and sharing of that information is a fundamental research issue with important applications. It could improve the experience of individual, communities, organizations, and societies by adapting context to the environment (home, hospitals, campuses, offices, etc.).
> Another area in this field deals with the Object Context Awareness. Context awareness may be implemented using quite different aspects under different environments, conditions, and layers, such as layered context-aware architecture for middleware, context awareness for connecting entities of network components, and infrastructure (Internet protocol, handoff management, sensing, network requirements, network controls and network implementation).
> This feature topic’s scope will include both computing and communications networks, especially mobile computing networks. This topic will focus on more recent relevant topics, such as green context awareness (which would be supported by Technical Subcommittee on Green Communications and Computing [TSCGCC] of the IEEE Communications Society), context-aware security, new context-aware network architecture, and context-awareness for connecting entities (which would be supported by Technical Committee on Satellite and Space Communications [SSC] of the IEEE Communications Society), and context-aware social networks.
> The papers in this feature topic will focus on state-of-the-art research and emerging industry technologies in Context-Aware Networking and Communications. We solicit papers covering various topics of interest that include, but are not limited to, the following:
>
> · Context-aware protocols, algorithms, architecture
