--- submission deadline extended to June 28th ---
We are excited to announce that the fifth Workshop on Real-World
Wireless Sensor will be held at the Como Lake, Italy in September 2013.
The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor
Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners
working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world
experiments or deployments. Included are, nontheless, new forms
of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of
Things, RFIDs, and robots.
When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new
issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of
different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network
structures; software development for large scale networks poses new
types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from
the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a
complex combination of autonomous and manual
configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are
typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is
therefore imperative for the community to produce results from
experimental research.
Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 10
point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be
selected based on originality, technical merit, and
relevance. Submissions must be fully anonimized, as REALWSN will apply
a double-blind review process. Accepted papers will be published by
Springer in the Lecture Notes on Electrical Engineering series and
indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google
Scholar, ...).
All topics pertaining to real-world wireless sensor networks and modern
forms of sensing are of interest, including but not limited to:
* Experiences with real-world deployments
* Mining real-world sensor network data
* Sensor systems leveraging smart phones (crowd sensing)
* Sensors systems involving Internet of Things (IoT), RFIDs, robots
* Experimental validation/refutation of previous simulation
results obtained by others
* Real-world performance of self-organization and self-management
* Debugging, testing, validation, and management
* Deployment and configuration
* Applications in medicine, industry, science, environmental monitoring
* Security and trust
* Scalability in practice
* Development and prototyping platforms
* Operating systems, sensor network programming paradigms, and languages
* Middleware for heterogeneous networks
* Real-time and dependability issues
* Hardware support for real-world sensor networks
* Robustness at all levels: communication, software, hardware
* Energy efficient protocols
* Hardware and software methods for energy measurement and profiling

Quality of Experience for Multimedia Communications (QoEMC 2013)
***** http://qoe.diee.unica.it *****
Organized in conjunction with IEEE Global Communications Conference
(GLOBECOM 2013)
9-13 December 2013, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Sponsored by the Technical Committee on Multimedia Communications of the
IEEE Communications Society
It is now widely acknowledged that the adoption of new multi-modal media
necessitates mechanisms in order to assess and evaluate perceived
multimedia quality. The problem of understanding and enhancing Quality
nof Experience (QoE) in complex, distributed and diverse environments
has been and is continuing to be the subject of intense research
investigation. Considerable efforts have been devoted to assessing QoE
via objective or subjective means for new and emerging multimedia
services over modern fixed/mobile devices (e.g. IPTV/HDTV/3DTV, Tablet
video call, 3D smartphone). As of today though we do not know how to
manage and control QoE in a diverse heterogeneous environment. The
variables that affect QoE are just too many and span several
disciplinary areas, including multiple technologies, but also psychology and
sociology factors. Despite the efforts devoted to QoE studies, managing
and controlling user QoE is still an open issue.
Topics of interest
The Workshop Quality of Experience for Multimedia Communications (QoEMC)
will bring together researchers from academia and industry, to identify
and discuss technical challenges, exchange novel ideas, explore enabling
technologies, and report latest research efforts that cover a variety
of topics including, but
not limited to:
-QoE relation and mapping to QoS
-KPI and KQI for the QoE definition
-QoE models, their applications and use cases
-QoE inference from user behavior
-QoE evaluation methodologies and metrics (subjective, objective, online
versus offline)
-QoE for new wireless multimedia applications
-QoE-based routing and resource management
-QoE-aware cross-layer design
-QoE-based optimization in heterogeneous environments
-QoE Metrics for various media applications (e.g. 3D, Gaming, etc)
-QoE Control, Monitoring and Management strategies
-Standardization activities for QoE
Submission Procedure
Please see the Author Information page for submission guidelines in the
IEEE GLOBECOM 2013 website
http://www.ieee-globecom.org. All accepted and presented papers will be
included in the IEEE GLOBECOM
2013 proceedings.
Special Issue

International Workshop on Device-to-Device (D2D) Communication With and
Without Infrastructure:
http://d2dgc13.prosjekt.uia.no/
Collocated with IEEE GLOBECOM 2013, 9-13 December 2013, Atlanta, USA
Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has gained increasing popularity
very recently, not only among researchers in academia and industries but
also among standardization bodies. D2D communication enables two or more
mobile devices in proximity of each other to establish direct local
links, either in an autonomous manner to form an ad hoc network or
coordinated by a base station to perform direct data transfer. The
benefits of D2D communication include ubiquitous computing and
communication, traffic offload from cellular networks, improved energy
efficiency and coverage extension, peer-to-peer communication supporting
social networks etc.
However, there are many issues to be addressed before the concept of D2D
communication can be implemented and commercialized. These problems
include for example how to find device proximity, how to manage
interference and how to control link quality, how to achieve energy
efficiency for neighbor discovery and multi-hop communication
establishment, etc. The main objective of this workshop is to bring
together the state-of-the-art results in the field of D2D communication,
including both cellular-coordinated approaches and distributed ad hoc
networking solutions, and to share knowledge to trigger D2D
communication from concept to reality. The topics to be addressed by
this workshop include both physical layer and networking issues as well
as envisaged services and applications.
Topics of interest cover all aspects related to D2D communication with
and without infrastructure, including results for both
cellular-coordinated approaches and distributed ad hoc networking
solutions from academia, industries as well as standardization bodies.
In particular, this workshop solicits contributions on the following
(but not limited to) topics:
- Frequency reuse and spectrum sharing for D2D communication
- Energy-harvesting aware protocols for D2D communication
- Power and interference management
- Resource allocation and optimization for D2D communication in cellular
networks
- Neighbor discovery and link maintenance
- Cognitive and cooperative D2D communication
- MAC mechanisms for distributed and central-controlled D2D networks
- Routing protocols for multi-hop D2D networks
- Device-initiated versus BS-coordinated link establishment
- WiFi Direct based implementations and applications
- LTE Direct based implementations and applications
- Programs and apps for D2D communication based on smartphones
- Business models for D2D communication
Important Dates
- Paper submission: 30 June 2013
- Acceptance notification: 1 September 2013
- Camera-ready: 1 October 2013
- Workshop date: 9 (or 13) December 2013
Submission Guidelines

Call for Papers
IEEE Communications Magazine
Consumer Communications and Networking Series
Perhaps, one of the biggest drivers for the many technological advances
we see today is the need for faster and more reliable communications.
Emerging applications of such faster and more reliable communications
technologies include home entertainment, high-quality visual
communication applications, massive multi-player gaming, and personal,
body-area and sensor networking. Some of these applications will become
key enablers where we are already seeing ubiquitous content generation,
manipulation and distribution. For example, TV content (including both
non-premium and premium) can now be viewed wherever we are and on any
connected device - a concept called TV Everywhere. Another example is
high-definition video telephony/conferencing and collaboration over
smart connected TV sets. These are all made possible by networking,
software and middleware that provide ease of use, security and stunning
interactivity to the consumers.
We have also seen the technological reach of existing solutions being
applied in unconventional ways where all aspects of our digital lives
are being consumed to provide novel platforms where interoperation
between disparate technologies is now possible. For example, the
automotive industry is now producing cars that include ad hoc networks
designed to provide multimedia solutions as well as links to wide-area
communications via cellular or satellite networks. Using these
networking capabilities and interfaces, we see automobile functionality
being extended, blurring the boundaries between the car and conventional
consumer devices.
With this in mind the IEEE Communications Magazine is seeking articles
that emphasize consumer networking in whatever physical environment it
finds itself. Particular topics of interest include:
Scope of Contributions
• Emerging wireless technologies for consumer networking
• Pervasive computing and contextual systems in consumer communications
• Architecture, platforms and protocols for consumer communications,
networked games and virtual worlds
• Middleware for networked consumer devices
• Media and device adaptation
• Social networking and its impact on consumer communications
• Home and networked entertainment
• Home networking and automation
Articles should be tutorial in nature, with the intended audience being
all members of the communication technologies community. They should be
written in a style comprehensible to readers outside the specialty of
the article. Articles should not exceed 4500 words. Figures and tables
should be limited to a combined total of six. Complete guidelines for
prospective authors can be found at:
http://www.comsoc.org/commag/paper-submission-guidelines. Please submit
your article in the PDF format by the submission deadline via the
Manuscript Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commag-ieee).
Register or log in, go to the Author Center and select the topic
"Consumer Communications and Networking Series."
Review Policy
As usual, all the submissions will be peer-reviewed. However, to reduce
the load for the reviewers as well as the notification time for the
authors, the editorial board will perform an initial review for each
submission to determine whether it is within the scope of the series.
The editorial board will reject submissions that are not fit for the
series and notify the authors.
Schedule for Submissions
Open submission:
Paper can be submitted anytime during the year. They will receive a
review process, and, if accepted, they will be published in the first
slot available for this Series.
Publication is scheduled twice per year in June & December.
Note: The December publication aligns with the IEEE Consumer
Communications & Networking (IEEE CCNC) conference, held every year in
January.

SPECIAL ISSUE OF PERVASIVE AND MOBILE COMPUTING
The Social Car: Socially-inspired Mechanisms for Future Mobility Services
Submissions due: July 31, 2013
*************************************************************************
In the long tradition of driver-vehicle interaction, information
systems have been socially ignorant ? they have not accounted for the
fact that drivers? (humans?) emote all the time and decisions are
always socially inspired. The next-generation automotive interfaces
need to include the essence of social intelligence to become more
effective and safer.
Researchers have recently started to think about the topic of socially
inspired cars and, in our comprehension, a broader discussion on the
benefits and consequences of socializing cars is very likely to start
in the near time. The central objective of this special issue is to
provoke an active debate on the adequacy of the concept of socializing
cars and the topic addressed by this special issue raises elementary
questions including who can communicate what, when, how, and why? To
tackle these questions we would like to invite researchers to take part
in an in-depth discussion of this timely, relevant, and important field
of investigation.
Potential topics of interest for this SI include, but are not limited to:
* Modeling techniques for handling social interaction behavior,
including traffic superorganism, pheromones, stigmergic behavior
* Implementation of agents/robots for improving socially-inspired
communication
* The subject of social-inspired vehicle-to-vehicle communications
* Network issues and protocols for social cars
* Crowdsourcing concepts to improve transport (driving as a "collabo-
ration" of different entities)
* Authentication, privacy, safety, or security issues related to social
car services
* Relevant parameters to describe social status or behaviors of a driver
or car and plausible types of information in in-vehicle social services
* Potentials of socially inspired car-car communication and benefit
assessment (why should cars or drivers disclose their social status or
social relationships?)
* Social norm in the automotive domain
* Cultural differences evident in-vehicle social services
* Polarization issues between supporters and opponents
* Novel applications and services enabled by social cars
* Case studies
* Visionary perspectives

Call for Papers
===============
Beiträge sollten daher in
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=fgsn2013
*Termine*
Einreichung: 30. Juni 2013
Benachrichtigung: 25. Juli 2013
Anmeldung: 08. August 2013
