CALL FOR PAPER
Special Issue of International Journal of Network Management on
Quality of Service Management in Emerging Wireless Networks
http://paws.kettering.edu/~cwu/qos-si-ijnm.html
Publication: Fall 2011
Quality of service of wireless networks refers to the collective service
performances with respect to the user expectation and the network
configuration. Over the years, the wireless networks have not only expanded
in their sizes, such as geographical area and number of nodes, but also in
the variety of services, users, and deployment environments. Small mobile
devices, such as smart phones, that allow instantaneous high speed
information
access and data processing have radically changed the way of our living.
Moreover, the development of ad-hoc networks allows the easy formation of
wireless networks for information sharing and data gathering. Due to
various
factors, wireless networks are constantly changing. For example, the
service
pattern, workload, available resources (power supply, bandwidth, beacons,
nodes etc.) are not fixed. Therefore, it is important to be able to access
and manage the quality of services for ensuring the optimal performance of
the networks. There are basically two aspects to QoS study in wireless
networks. One aspect is accessing and diagnosing the status of the networks
and evaluating the current level of service quality. The other aspect is to
study the network design to handle the changing factors of the networks so
that the quality of service is optimized under the constraint of the
available resources and service pattern. The quality of service management
and diagnosis of a network is closely related to wide range of fundamental
issues such as network topology, routing protocols, resource allocation,
communication layer, and working environments etc. The contributed papers
will study both practical and theoretical models and algorithms for
ensuring
the high quality of service in wireless networks and the approaches for
quality of service evaluation and diagnosis.
This special issue of the International Journal of Network Management is
seeking new and unpublished contributions addressing issues in Quality
of Service Management in Emerging Wireless Networks including, but not
limited to:
* Fault diagnosis
* Diagnosis middleware
* Reconfigurable networks
* Performance evaluation
* QoS evaluation model
* Self-healing networks
* Adaptable resource management
* Network simulation platforms
* QoS-oriented network planning
* QoS-based routing protocols
* Data management
* Mobility management
* Security and privacy
Papers describing current research and practice are solicited.

CALL FOR PAPERS - WONS 2011
The Eighth International Conference on
Wireless On-demand Network Systems and Services
Technically sponsored by IEEE COMSOC, IFIP, TCCC, and Euro-NF
January 26-28, 2011
Bardonecchia, Italy
http://conferenze.dei.polimi.it/wons2011/
Scope of the conference
-----------------------
As more and more users become increasingly dependent on wireless and
mobile communications, it is necessary to secure a reliable and
dependable technology support for "on-demand" services through any of
the wireless architectures that have been in development recently,
such as mesh networks, WiMax, WiFi, ad hoc networks, sensor networks,
vehicular networks, etc.
However, there are serious challenges to overcome, such as the
integration of infrastructure-based and ad hoc networks, robust
algorithms for self-organizing, reconfigurable wireless networks,
on-demand service models and their provision in a highly-volatile
interconnection environment, and smooth interoperability of
architectures.
WONS, now in its eighth edition, has established itself as a
high-quality forum to address these challenges in the context of a
workshop that is rich in intense interactions and based on innovative
contributions by experts in the field.
This announcement solicits original submissions of high-quality
research papers on "wireless on-demand networks" that provide novel
insights on protocol and network design, modeling, performance
evaluation, pricing and profitability models, QoS models and mechanisms,
practical implementations, service level aspects, and Internet
integration of wireless networks.
Topics related to all kinds of wireless on-demand networks comprise,
but are not limited to:
* Architecture and design
* Evaluation through simulations and experiments
* Modeling
* Integration and co-existence
* Social and economic aspects
* Pervasive and ubiquitous computing
* Localization and mobility management
* Security, privacy, and trust
* Novel applications and services
* Energy-efficient protocols and power management
* Implementations and testbeds
* Opportunistic, delay-tolerant, and dissemination-based protocols
* Future wireless Internet solutions
* Mobile peer-to-peer systems
* Middleware aspects
* Self-X and network management
Manuscript submissions
----------------------
Submitted papers must not have been published elsewhere and must not be
currently under review by another conference or journal. Authors are
invited to submit double-column full papers (up to 8 pages) and short
papers (up to 4 pages) as a PDF file in IEEE format with a font size no
smaller than 10pt. Short papers should present future research
directions and ongoing work with visionary, innovative ideas; accepted
short papers will populate poster sessions at the conference and will
be included in the conference proceedings. Submission implies the
willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the
paper. Conference proceedings will be included in the IEEE Xplore
library.
Further submission instructions will be published on the conference
web site.
Important dates
---------------
* Full Paper Submission: September 6, 2010

CALL FOR PAPERS [in PDF]
Journal of Communications (JCM, ISSN 1796-2021)
Recent Advance on Distributed Sensor Systems & Applications
http://www.academypublisher.com/jcm/si/jcmsi_radssa.html
Applications are always the original driving force for researches,
particularly in the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) area, which is
highly utility-oriented. WSNs have emerged as a new information paradigm
for distributed real-time and embedded systems, where the energy
consumption and the data process and storage capacity of the sensor
nodes must be taken into account. Example applications include
environment monitoring, emergency response, critical infrastructure
protection, medical care, intelligent transportation, and smart
manufacturing. However, finding killer applications for WSNs is still a
hard task that is heavily pursued.
This special issue aims at presenting innovative and significant
research on the design, implementation, usage, and evaluation of
wireless sensor systems, applications, and novel techniques, especially
in a distributed environment. We seek papers that take a broad systems
perspective rather than focus narrowly on low-level components. Topics
of interest include, but are not limited to:
l Sensor networks applications, architectures, protocols, Tools,
systems, and algorithms
l Real testbed measurement and performance analysis
l Operating systems and middleware for sensor networks
l Distributed networked sensing, actuation and control
l Energy harvesting technologies on power and energy management
l Wide-area sensing services and support for social networking
l Localization and time synchronization and QoS provisioning protocols
l Security and privacy in sensor networks
l Multimedia transmission (high resolution video etc)
l Inter-connection between distributed sensor systems
l Systems for context sensing and context awareness
l User interfaces/ User friendliness and usability issues for backend
monitoring
l Collaborative in-network processing and data sharing
l Sensor devices and sensor circuits for distributed systems
Submission Guideline:
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished papers.
Submissions should follow the author guidelines of Journal of

Special Issue on
“Recent Advance in Mobile Sensor Networks”
Scope
The continuous growing technique of sensor networks has enabled many new
applications in
which mobility of sensor nodes (controllable sensors and uncontrollable
sensors) are explored,
such as sea monitoring, animal migration and patrol defense. Unlike
existing wireless sensor
networks which are composed of static sensors and sink nodes, wireless
mobile sensor
networks allows diverse entities to move within the network field all
the time, e.g., mobile base
station, mobile sensor nodes, mobile relay nodes, mobile cluster heads.
Enabling mobility in
traditional static sensor networks makes a great impact on most existing
research solutions and
poses a large number of research challenging issues in both
communication and data
management aspects, e.g., challenges for localization in mobile sensor
networks, challenges for
providing coverage services by mobile sensor networks, and challenges
for data collection in
mobile sensor networks. On the other hand, these challenges in mobile
sensor networks also
provides lots of opportunities that researchers can leverage the
mobility feature to exploring
improvement for traditional solutions and methods in various aspects,
e.g., node localization,
network coverage, and data collection/streaming/management.
This special issue is seeking papers working on these challenges of the
mobile ad hoc and
sensor networks from the academia researchers and the industry
practitioners, as well as
papers that addressing various hot topics of the mobile sensor networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Data Aggregation and Data Dissemination in Mobile Sensor networks
• Query Processing and Data Management in Mobile Sensor networks
• Autonomic Computing with Mobile Sensor networks
• Topology Control and Coverage Management in Mobile Sensor networks
• Applications and Evolutions of Mobile Sensor networks
• Physical Layer Design of Mobile Sensor networks
• MAC Protocols for Mobile Sensor networks
• QoS Provisioning in Medium Access Control & Routing for Mobile Sensor
networks

Call for papers: ACM BuildSys 2010, in conjunction with ACM SenSys 2010
http://buildsys.org/2010
2nd ACM Workshop On Embedded Sensing Systems For Energy-Efficiency In
Buildings and Surroundings
Zurich, Switzerland - November 2, 2010.
Important dates:
* Submission deadline: 30 July 2010
* Notification of acceptance: 7 September 2010
* Camera Ready Due: 25 September 2010
* Workshop date: 2 November 2010
Technically co-sponsored by ACM. Submissions will be peer-reviewed. The
Proceedings will be archived in the ACM Digital Library.
The World is increasingly experiencing a strong need for energy
consumption reduction and a need for efficient use of scarce natural
resources. Official studies report that buildings account for the
largest portion of World's energy expenditure and have the fastest
growth rate. Clearly, energy saving strategies that target energy use in
buildings and surroundings can have a major impact worldwide, driving
the current energy market toward self-sufficiency and
self-sustainability. This calls for effective techniques and methods
that enable accurate carbon foot printing, monitoring and control of
appliance activity, energy auditing and management in buildings and
surroundings and the generation of energy awareness.
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) plays a key role in enabling
energy-saving systems in buildings and surrounding spaces by providing a
reliable, cost-effective and extensible solution that can be placed in
existing as well as new structures and be controlled via the Internet.
In fact, WSNs allow the monitoring of the energy consumption in
near-real time and, as such, they are an essential tool in the control
loop that will be used in future structures for the generation and usage
of diverse types of energy.
Following the success of the past edition of the workshop, BuildSys 2010
focuses on the intersection between WSNs and energy in buildings by
merging experts in the WSN domain and experts in the Building/Energy
community in order to identify innovative solutions which achieve the
broad goal of energy-reduction.
The workshop welcomes sensor network-based techniques and applications
that can clearly demonstrate how to:
* Increase energy awareness and reduce consumption by leveraging on
sensing systems/social networking/mobile phones, novel visualization and
other forms of media to convey relevant information to users;
* Systems that can influence a change of building occupant behaviour
towards a more parsimonious usage of electricity, gas, heating, water, etc.;
* Monitor and actuate appliances in residential and industrial
settings (e.g. data centres, HVAC, etc.)
* Monitor and control of alternative energy sources aiming at an
increase of production efficacy;
* Model and simulate heating cooling lighting, ventilation, water
usage and other energy flows in buildings and surrounding spaces through
the combination of real data from sensors and popular energy simulation
tools such as Energy Plus and TrnSys;
* Create innovative tools to model and visualize energy expenditure
and production (from, e.g., solar panels, wind turbines);
* Integrate sensor-based systems to improve grid operation and
energy distribution (electricity, gas, water);
Particular emphasis will also be given to:
* Real evaluation of energy-saving techniques and case studies that
demonstrate a decrease of energy expenditure in real scenarios;
* Design of innovative architectures that are capable of reducing
energy consumption and improve energy use efficiency;
* Accurate case studies and issues experienced current energy
systems and how sensor networks can improve the state of the art in
building energy management;
* Sensor systems for the identification of appliances in industrial
and home environments, which can be used to estimate the energy
usage/production model and to predict future demands;
* Innovative Sensor Network-assisted building monitoring systems (BMS);
* Integration of WSNs and wired sensor systems (e.g., Powerline,
exing BMS) for the energy management in buildings.
