3rd IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies
Special theme: Cyber Engineering and Human Space Computing
Istanbul, Turkey
1-3 June 2009
Workshops and Tutorials on 31 May 2009
http://dest2009.debii.curtin.edu.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=vi
ew&id=14&Itemid=28
The digital ecosystem is defined as an open, loosely coupled,
demand-driven, domain clustered, agent-based self organised
collaborative environment where species/agents form a temporary
coalition (or longer term) for a specific purpose or goal, and everyone
is proactive and responsive for their own benefit or profit. The
essence of digital ecosystems is creating value by making connections
through collective intelligence. Digital Ecosystems promote
collaboration instead of unbridled competition and ICT based catalyst
effect in a number of domains to produce networked enriched communities.
Digital Ecosystems are empowered by the cyber engineering and human
space computing. Cyber engineering studies the digital horizon in our
ecosystems, also known as Cloud computing. It encompasses the semantic
web, ontologies, cyber security, privacy, trust and risk management,
social networks, web 2.0, 3.0, convergence technologies, web services
and grid technologies. Human space computing is about the study of the
technology (Bluetooth, WiFi, IRDA, RFID, GSM, GPRS, 3G Digital Pens,
PDAs, Mobile Phones , VoIP, Video, Voice, Data, other devices) for
improvement of our human lives, not just organisations, businesses or
government. It studies the world we live in, and personal space
computing, our space, between the digital skyline and our ecosystems.
Prospective participants are invited to electronically submit a full
paper (6 pages, about 4500 words, pdf or WinWord file) of their original
work following the IEEE instructions available on this website. Each
paper will undergo a rigorous peer reviewed process involving at least
two reviewers.
The main conference theme is to strengthen ICT to support different
digital ecosystems, especially focusing on cyber engineering and human
space computing. It is the study of triangle relationship between
industries, human endeavours and advanced ICT.
We are interested in papers, work-in-progress reports, and industrial
experiences describing advances in all areas of digital business
applications.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Collaborative and Connectivity in Digital Ecosystems
* Web Spam - Adversarial Information Retrieval in Digital
Ecosystems
* Models of Open Transactions in Digital Ecosystems
* Governance in Large Heterogeneous IT Systems
* Democratising Collaborative Research Patterns

CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Communications (JCM, ISSN 1796-2021)
Special Issue on Delay Tolerant Networks, Architecture, and Applications
Delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) are designed to address networks that
exhibit intermittent connectivity. In
general DTN architecture can be defined by one or more of the
following characteristics: (a) sparse connectivity (i.
e., end-to-end route between source and destination may not even
exist); (b) long or variable delay; (c)
asymmetric data rate; and (d) high error rate. Such characteristics
can be results of various factors, including
sever power fluctuations, wireless range, network partitioning,
catastrophic disasters, or malicious attacks.
Consequently, applications of DTNs are highly diverse and can be
expanded to a wide variety of areas.
Examples of such areas are interplanetary networks for deep space
communications, sensor networks for
ecological monitoring, transient networks to benefit developing
communities, ad hoc networks to disseminate
information in tactical or roadway environments, and disaster recovery
networks to restore communications
following a natural disaster. Diversity of network environments and
inherent uncertainty about network conditions
make design of DTNs highly challenging in terms of architecture,
protocol designs, interoperability, security,
management, and stability. We hope this special issue can address some
of these issues and further stimulate
activity in the research community.
The goal of this special issue is to bring together the state-of-the-
art research contributions that address the
various aspects of delay/disruption tolerant communications, networks,
architecture, and applications. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:
* Multicasting and broadcasting
* Routing protocols for stochastic and deterministic time
evolving networks
* Integration with other systems and networks, such as free-space
optical communications systems,
MANET, VANET, C2C, Deep space, Acoustic Underwater, ad hoc,
sensor/actuator networks
* Models for rural connectivity and disconnected ad hoc networks
* Multimedia and web searching
* Hybrid DTN
* Security, stability, survivability, and interoperability
* Wireless DTN technologies, including RF, UWB, free-space
optical, and acoustic
* Network architecture and design, including link technology and
node design
* Applications, testbeds, and implementations
* Management, configuration, QoS, and authentication
* User mobility support, naming, and addressing
* Protocols and overlay architecture

CALL FOR PAPERS
The 2nd International Workshop on
Massively Multiuser Virtual Environments (MMVE 2009)
at the IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality 2009 (VR09)
March 15th, 2009
Lafayette, Louisiana, USA
http://peers-at-play.org/MMVE09/
--------------------------------------------------------
With the increasing number of potential users of virtual and augmented
reality
systems, as indicated by the recent booms of massively multiuser online
societies, the design of distributed, massively multiuser virtual
environments
(MMVEs) becomes increasingly important, posing new requirements on both
distribution platforms and virtual reality systems. Facing these
challenges is a
community-spanning effort that requires pooling the resources and
experiences of
both the virtual reality and the networking/ distributed computing
communities.
This workshop hopes to provide a link between these communities to
foster the
development of highly distributed, flexible and robust virtual
environments. We
aim to gather both practitioners and researchers under one roof to
discuss their
findings, incite collaborations, and move the state of the art forward.
Topics
------
The main topic of this workshop is to provide a critical analysis of
existing
distribution approaches for virtual environments and to identify key
challenges
and techniques that are required for bringing VR systems into the global
Internet, interconnecting thousands of users in a single environment. More
specifically, the workshop addresses the following issues:
1. Scalability, i.e. the ability to handle thousands of (possibly
nearby) users
at the same time, interacting via the global Internet.
2. Interoperability, i.e. the ability to integrate multiple virtual worlds
and/or service providers, e.g. using common protocols or universal
clients.
3. Interactivity, i.e. how to provide highly responsive environments
with near
real time interactions despite network delay and jitter.
4. Bandwidth restricted (mobile) end user devices, e.g. the integration of
mobile devices for nomadic augmented reality applications.
5. Dynamic & flexible distribution architectures, e.g. self-adapting
client/server, peer-to-peer and hybrid architectures.
6. Content streaming, e.g. sound and 3D streaming.
7. Consistency, i.e. providing consistency guarantees to users of the
virtual
environment, despite network delay and the high level of responsiveness
required.
8. Persistency, i.e. the ability to save and access the states of the
virtual
environments despite disconnections and faulty components.
9. Security & privacy, e.g. distributed authentication algorithms that
allow
users to participate in the environment securely and without fear of
being
spied.
10. Implementation issues, e.g. novel approaches to effectively manage the
complexity of developing applications for such environments.
Submission Guidelines
----------------------
Paper submissions must cover one of the topics listed above, or a closely-
related one. Submitted papers should be at most 6 pages long, use the IEEE
proceedings format and *must be blinded*. Research papers must be
original prior
unpublished work and not under review elsewhere. All submissions will be
peer-
reviewed (double-blind) and selected based on their originality, merit, and
relevance to the workshop.
Submissions in PDF format must be submitted online through the workshop
page at
http://peers-at-play.org/MMVE09/ no later than January 30th, 2009. Accepted
papers must be presented at the workshop. Selected papers will appear in a
special issue of the International Journal of Advanced Media and
Communication
(IJAMC), subject to addressing all reviewer comments from MMVE and
reformatting
according to IJAMC formatting guidelines.
If you have any questions, please email us at mmve(a)peers-at-play.org.
Workshop Format
--------------------------------------------
The workshop will have three parts. The first part will be an invited
keynote
talk. In the second part, we will have multiple sessions, each consisting of
about 3 talks. The last part of the workshop will consist of a common panel
discussion including all participants.

ICFI 2009 -- Second Call for Papers
The 10th International Conference on Feature Interactions
in Software and Communication Systems
June 11-12, 2009
Lisbon, Portugal
(in conjunction with IFIP's DisCoTec'09)
http://www27.cs.kobe-u.ac.jp/wiki/icfi/
// OVERVIEW --------------------------------------------------------//
ICFI is the primary international forum for discussing and
reporting about research on the Feature Interaction problem in
telecommunications and software systems since 1992. ICFI2009 will
be held in conjunction with Distributed Computing Techniques 2009
(DisCoTec'09), a major cluster of conferences sponsored by IFIP.
ICFI2009 aims to bring together representatives of the
communications industry, the software industry, and the research
community working on various aspects of feature interactions in
order to discuss possible solutions and their practical applications,
as well as setting directions for further research.
ICFI2009 will feature presentations by invited speakers,
presentations of research and industrial papers (including short
presentations), a doctoral symposium as well as posters and tool
demonstrations.
// THE FEATURE INTERACTION PROBLEM ---------------------------------//
Feature interactions refer to conflicts among different features
on a system. The features may be functions, services, concerns or
aspects. Even if each individual feature works as intended, using
multiple features together may cause unexpected (and often
undesirable) behaviors, due to the feature interactions.
The feature interaction problem was first studied in the domain
of telecommunications systems. However, the phenomenon can occur in
any software system that is subject to evolution, because the
features of the new version of the system can interact with the
features of the old system in an undesired way.
Emerging application domains for which the feature interaction
problem becomes relevant include policy-driven systems, Web services
/service-oriented architecture, home network systems, building
automation systems, mobile and ubiquitous systems, Parlay, 3G, grid
and active networks, product-line engineering, etc.
Detecting, resolving, preventing, and managing the feature
interactions at different phases of the system life-cycle are more
than ever important problems that need to be addressed with
cost-effective techniques and tools.
// TOPICS ----------------------------------------------------------//
The following topics are relevant for the conference. Yet, we
welcome other contributions related to the feature interaction problem.
- Feature interactions in software systems / applications

CALL FOR PAPERS
PFLDNet 2009
The 7th International Workshop on Protocols for Future,
Large-Scale and Diverse Network Transports (PFLDNeT)
The University of Tokyo, Japan
May 21-22, 2009
Web page: http://www.hpcc.jp/pfldnet2009
Scope
The Internet continues to evolve along several dimensions, allowing
more and more end systems to communicate in increasingly diverse
ways. At one end of the performance spectrum, the Internet protocols
provide communication facilities for extremely-high-speed special-use
networks. At the other end of the performance spectrum, the Internet
contains very low-power and low-bandwidth networks that cater to
infrequent, bursty communication. Enabling efficient and high-
performance end-to-end communication across such a diverse internetwork
is a difficult problem, which is not solved by current transport
layer protocols. The need to support an application base that grows
more and more dissimilar adds additional challenges.
The 7th International Workshop on Protocols for Future, Large-Scale
& Diverse Network Transports (PFLDNeT)brings together researchers
and practitioners from all continents to exchange their ideas and
experiences in the area of transport layer issues for modern
communication networks. The workshop provides theorists,
experimentalists
and technologists with a focused, highly interactive opportunity
to present, discuss and exchange experience on leading research,
development and future directions in transport and application
protocols for networks that are increasingly growing in size,
heterogeneity and dynamicity of interaction.
PFLDNeT 2009 solicits papers that further the research on end-to-end
communication protocols for todays and tomorrows Internet in all
its diversity along the continuum from specialized grid networks,
optical transports, wireless connections, to lossy and low-power
networks. A specific focus of the workshop lies on transport
protocols for the efficient end-to-end transfer of data for a diverse
set of applications and application-layer protocols.
Now approaching its seventh instantiation, the PFLDneT workshop has
broadened its focus over the years from protocols targeted at
specific fast, long-distance networks (the original expansion of
the PFLDneT acronym) into a venue where all kinds of new ideas
relating to end-to-end transport protocols for diverse network
scenarios are being discussed first.
The previous International Workshops on Protocols for Fast, Long-
Distance Networks held at CERN (2003), Argonne (2004), Lyon (2005),
Nara (2006), Marina del Rey (2007) and Manchester (2008) were very
successful in bringing together many researchers from all over the
world including North America, Europe and Asia who are working on
these problems. PFLDNeT 2009 will continue this tradition, and
provide a perfect forum for researchers in this area to exchange
ideas and experience.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Next generation mobile networks will be based on Internet core
networks and wireless access networks. The need for efficient merging
of the wired and wireless infrastructure as well as the new multimedia
services and applications of next generation networks call for novel
network architectures, protocols and traffic-related mechanisms. WWIC
addresses research topics such as the design and evaluation of
protocols, the dynamics of the integration, the performance tradeoffs,
the need for new performance metrics, and cross-layer interactions.
The goal of the conference is to present high-quality results in the
field, and to provide a framework for research collaboration through
focused discussions that will designate future research efforts and
directions. In this context, the program committee will accept only a
limited number of papers that meet the criteria of originality,
presentation quality and topic relevance. WWIC is a single-track
conference which has reached, within 6 years, the highest level of
quality, which is reflected both in the level of participation as well
as the acceptance ratio and the amount and quality of submitted papers.
CONFERENCE TOPICS
The conference objectives will be pursued through highly technical
