WEEDEV 2009 focuses on experimental and deployment experiences in vehicular networks. Nowadays, vehicular networks technology is entering a critical phase where academia, industry and governments worldwide are investing significant time and resources on the large-scale deployment of these networks so that their benefits in the road safety and improvement of traffic flow could be leveraged. Still, a number of technical challenges need to be resolved in order that these networks could be widely deployed and used in our daily life. This motivates the need for real tests, field trials, and experimental evaluations for the different technological solutions and aspects in such networks. This workshop aims to present and discuss the recent advances and experimental evaluation in the development of vehicular networks and ITS application, and to disseminate the most advanced ideas and solutions in the field. Submitted papers should have practical evaluation and/or deployment experiences as their main subject or they should use experiments to validate their modeling/analysis results. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): * Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) * Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) for ITS * Heterogeneous wireless technologies in vehicular networks * Mobility management in vehicular networks and NEMO * Ad hoc and mesh routing for vehicular networks * IPv6 Address configuration for vehicular networks * Security in vehicular communication (authentication, access control, confidentiality, services' authorization, ..) * QoS in vehicular networks * Geographic routing and addressing * Sensor networks and technologies for vehicular networks * Smart antenna in vehicular networks * Digital maps and location technologies * Data collection and cooperation between vehicles Accepted papers will be included in the TridentCom09 conference proceedings and the IEEE Xplore digital library and will be indexed by EI. CALL FOR PAPERS The Sixth Workshop on Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks WWASN 2009 - in conjunction with The International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2009), June 22-26, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada This workshop covers the area of ad hoc networking, from physical issues up to application aspects. In particular, it will cover physical, data link, network and transport layers, as well as applications, security, simulation and power management issues in sensor, local area, personal, and mobile ad hoc networks. It is the goal of this workshop to review ad hoc protocols and models and to reflect the latest in the state of the art in ad hoc networks. It seeks to provide up to date information on research and development activities in the rapidly growing area of ad hoc networks. The workshop will also address the rapidly growing field of sensor networks, including the issues related to their topology, routing, performance, data gathering and filtering, energy efficiency, and mobility. Increasing number of people interact through media and less in a face-to-face manner. Elderly tend to get lonely when socializing becomes more difficult because of their age. Children spend an increasing amount of time behind their computer playing games on their own and adults also tend to live a less active life. Due to various reasons the number of people with social impairments (autism spectrum disorders) has noticeably grown during the last decades. Another related trend is that people lead less active lifestyles. At the same time, new technologies provide novel entertainment and interaction opportunities. Paper should explore the opportunities that technology-driven physical play offers for enhancing and stimulating face-to-face social interaction (as opposed to virtual interaction through a computer). This can be beneficial for diverse reasons: For children to counter the trend of playing computer games and watching television on their own, for elderly to socialize more when making new contacts becomes more difficult and for autistic children because they particularly like technological toys. The main goal of the special issue is to share information and experiences among researchers in the area of social interaction through physical play. We invite papers addressing social and physical issues including (but not restricted to) the following fields: - Social robotics - Design for diverse user groups, such as children and elderly - Social games - Creative toolkits - Exertion interfaces - Pervasive and head-up games - Embodied facilitation - Spatial and tangible interaction It is expected that the special issue will include some articles extended from papers that were presented at the 2008 Fun and Games workshop on Design for social interaction through physical play (http://www.idemployee.id.tue.nl/m.m.bekker/WorkshopSPG.htm), but other original articles are also welcome. Held in conjunction with the IEEE 6th International Conference on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC-09) Brisbane, Australia, 7 - 10 July, 2009 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- AIM & SCOPE Services are the dominant type of economic activity in industrialized economies. The term Internet of Services relates to the representation and (partial) execution of services - in the economic sense - in the Internet. Many issues around the mapping between economic services and services in the IT sense are still unresolved. Additionally, only a small fraction of services are entirely dematerialized; the vast majority of services ultimately relate to things in the real world: to the Internet of Things. The Ubiquitous Computing community has already made considerable advances in closing the information gap between services and things. One well-known example is the use of RFID tags in logistics. Yet this is only the beginning, there still exists a largely untapped source of innovation at the junction of services and things. This workshop is about bringing together industry and academia to explore how advances in ubiquitous computing techniques can help improve existing economic services and create opportunities for new services. We are also interested in how services can add value to smart things. This is a forum for industry to learn about recent advances in both services and Ubicomp and also for researchers to learn about the problems faced by industry that may spark new research questions and the next wave of Ubicomp applications. We solicit a) technical papers with a proven original scientific contribution and b) systematic, well-founded experience reports and requirements / demands analyses. Core IT papers and papers at the boundary of technology and business or humanities are also invited. We also welcome contributions that address solely the topic of services, independently of ubiquitous computing, since we believe this also contributes to cross-fertilization of ideas in the context of UIC-09. Technical, business and legal aspects of services all have their place here. Topics may include, but are not limited to: * Identification of services in existing systems and business processes * Approaches for fostering the creation, use and re-use of services * Aggregation, brokerage and re-purposing of services * Personalisation of services to classes of users and individual users * Channels and technologies for accessing services * Service lifecycle management * Legal aspects of service ecosystems * New business models enabled by smart things * Doing business better, cheaper, faster, greener with smart things * Economics and sustainability of using smart things * Applications of things and services in media and advertisement * Applications of things and services to delivering healthcare and services to citizens * Applications of things and services to manufacturing and supply chain management * Lifecycle management of smart things * Discovering services through smart things * Discovering smart things using services * Machine-processable representations of services stored in smart things * Linking smart things to their related services * Representation of real world things in virtual worlds * Running services inside smart things * Privacy and security issues with things and services SUBMISSION & DISSEMINATION We invite all researchers to participate by submitting an original paper of up to 6 pages in IEEE CS style. CALL FOR PAPERS (WiPH2009) ======================================================================= 2009 International Workshop on Wireless Pervasive Healthcare (WiPH 2009), March 31, 2009, London UK (http://www.wiph-workshop.org/) to be held in conjunction with 3rd International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare 2009, April 1-3, London UK (http://www.pervasivehealth.org/cfp.shtml) ======================================================================= ----------------- Aim of the workshop ----------------- Wireless access for pervasive healthcare is an emerging cross-disciplinary subject, focusing on the research and developments of pervasive and ubiquitous wireless technologies in order to improve the quality of healthcare and wellness. With the recent advances in hardware design and wireless communications, the evolution of new generations of embedded wireless devices, which facilitates reliable, comprehensive, and high-standard healthcare, has attracted intensive attention from both industries and academic institutes. Particularly, developments in wireless infrastructure, such as body-area networks or pervasive health-monitoring system, have proved beneficial to deliver telemedicine services regardless of a patient's physical location. However, there still exist many challenges to overcome before the real marketing stage due to requirements for reliable signal propagation characteristics, low network latency, low packet loss, robust data and image transmission, and the great need for safe, secure, and dependable operation. In addition, cost issue is another key concern for worldwide utilization of wireless devices for pervasive healthcare. The aim of the workshop is to bring together both the industry and academia to present and discuss the problems, challenges, directions, and state-of-art in the fields of wireless access for pervasive healthcare. The workshop will try to build a bridge between the industry and academic research so that future collaborations between two sectors can be identified. It has been argued that one of the key characteristics of sensor networks is that they are so tightly coupled with the applications running on top of them. Although WSNs have been an active area of research for over a decade, real world sensor network deployments have not yet found their way to widespread adoption. The experience gained and lessons learned during the initial attempts to deploy WSNs and implement various sensor network applications are very valuable for the advancement of this technology. The 1st ICST International Conference on Sensor Networks Applications, Experimentation and Logistics (SENSAPPEAL 2009) aims at bringing together researchers and developers from academia and industry to present their work and share their experiences with developing, deploying and testing WSN applications. Moreover key enablers to WSN application development (such as OS, middleware, in-field reprogramming, testbeds and simulators, etc.) fall within the scope of the conference. Authors are invited to submit original unpublished work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop or journal. Full papers should be restricted to 20 camera-ready pages in the Springer “Lecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering (LNICST)” format. We also welcome submissions for demonstrations of pilot, experimental or real-life deployments, testbeds, simulators and applications of wireless sensor networks.
