CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
to the
1st Workshop on Experimental Evaluation and Deployment
Experiences on Vehicular networks (WEEDEV 2008)
March 18, 2008, Hotel Grauer Baer, Innsbruck, Austria
(in conjunction with TRIDENTCOM 2008)
SCOPE:
Many people in modern societies spend a lot of time in their cars.
Communication possibilities in vehicles have been restricted in the past
mainly to cellular communication networks. Enabling broader communication
facilities in cars is an important contribution to the global trend towards
ubiquitous communications. Cars should provide access to Internet and should
be able to communicate among themselves, supporting new services and
applications.
The objective of this 1-day workshop is to attract the most recent developments
in the area of experimental evaluation and deployment experiences on vehicular
networks, and bring together active researchers in an environment that
encourages discussion and exchange of ideas.
CONFERENCE PROGRAM:
Besides a the presentation of the high quality accepted papers, the
technical programme will include:
- A key-note speech by Dr. Hannes Stratil, tittled "The European CVIS
Project and IPv6 Deployment for ITS"
- A panel session: "The future of vehicular communications"
The detailed conference program is available at http://www.weedev.org/
LOCATION:
The workshop will take place at the Hotel Grauer Baer
(www.innsbruck-hotels.at/grauerbaer) which is located in the immediate
city center, just a two-minute walk away from the historic Old Town of
Innsbruck. The Universitätsstrasse is part of a very quiet area and is
well known for its numerous cafes and bars.

Early Registration is open until February 15th 2008
(https://icst.org/registration/reg_tridentcom_2008_eu.php). Reduced

MobiWorld 2008
The International Workshop on Mobile IPv6 and Network-based Localized
Mobility Management
(In conjunction with Mobility Conference 2008)
National Ilan University, Taiwan
September 10-12, 2008
http://sun.dju.ac.kr/~mobiworld2008/
Overview
As mobile computing is more and more widespread, mobility support for
Internet devices becomes very important. Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) is a promising
technology that handles the mobility management and provides the seamless
mobile communications. It is expected that MIPv6, as a standard for mobile
communication, will open the Mobile Internet Age. In MIPv6, it has been
observed that mobility for mobile devices can be more efficiently handled if
mobility management is broken down into localized mobility management and
global mobility management. Therefore, host-based approaches such as
Fast-Handovers for MIPv6 (FMIPv6) and Hierarchical MIPv6 (HMIPv6) have been
proposed for localized mobility management. In addition, Proxy MIPv6
(PMIPv6) has been presented for the network-based localized mobility
management (NETLMM), which does not require mobile devices to be involved in
the signaling for mobility management. This workshop will focus on the
challenges and solutions for MIPv6 with an emphasis on PMIPv6 and NETLMM,
which have recently gained considerable attention.
The MobiWorld workshop will provide an opportunity for academic and industry
professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of MIPv6
and NETLMM. In addition, the workshop will publish high quality papers which
are closely related to the various theories and practical applications in
MIPv6 and NETLMM. Furthermore, we expect that the workshop and its
publications will be a trigger for further related research and technology
improvements in this important subject.

[Tccc] Deadline Extension: CFP Special Issue of IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine: "Practical aspects of mobility in wireless self-organizing networks"]
by Marcelo Dias de Amorim 14 Feb '08
by Marcelo Dias de Amorim 14 Feb '08

!!!!EXTENDED DEADLINE!!!!
Please apologize for multiple copies.
********************* CALL FOR PAPERS ********************
IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine
Special Issue on
"Practical aspects of mobility in
wireless self-organizing networks"
**********************************************************
Wireless and mobile computing advanced significantly in
the last decade. In particular, we now face the
possibility to spontaneously establish wireless self-
organizing networks, such as ad hoc, disruption-tolerant,
sensor, and wireless mesh networks. These spontaneous
self-organizing networks have been the focus of intensive
research activity in recent years. Spontaneous networks
arise from the cooperation of mobile devices in an ad hoc
fashion requiring no previous infrastructure in
place. A key point to couple research and real-life
applications in this context is to understand how mobility
(of devices, users, and applications) impacts practical
networking aspects.
The knowledge accumulated so far in the area of wireless
self-organizing networks is in general supported by either
simulation or theoretical analysis relying on strong
assumptions. The research community needs a step forward
and should definitely consider real aspects of mobility in
their protocols and algorithms. Such a situation is to be
compared with the one found for infrastructure-based
networks (e.g., cellular networks), in which mobility has
been thoroughly investigated (both theoretically and
through measurements) and properly incorporated in their
management architecture. In wireless self-organizing
networks, contrary to common belief, much is still to be
done in this domain, and definitive solutions are still
to emerge.
Mobility can no longer be seen as an issue to be hidden
from higher layers of the protocol stack, but as an
expected characteristic of today's communication systems.
In this context, it is of utmost importance to address
issues related to the impact of mobility as seen in
practice, covering characterization, modeling, and
applications of mobility in modern wireless networks. The
research community working on wireless self-organizing
networks has recently started giving more attention to
the practical mobility issues in this area. This may be
attested by the increasing number of initiatives worldwide
like the many measurement campaigns and the considerable
body of developed theoretical background work supported by
practical arguments (e.g., mobility models, mobility
increasing network capacity, relationship between node
mobility and wireless channel conditions).
The goal of this special issue is to help filling this gap
by presenting contributions ranging from the impact of
mobility on self-organizing networks to mobility-aware
architectures for self-organizing networks. As we intend
to focus on the practical impacts of mobility in wireless
self-organizing networks, papers presenting insights from
the applicability of mobility measurements and realistic
mobility models in this context are also expected. We will
be particularly interested in contributions that explore
mobility to improve the behavior of network protocols and
algorithms.
We are soliciting papers covering, but not limited to, the
following topics:
* Mobility-aware architectures for self-organizing
networks.
* Impact of mobility on self-organizing networks.
* Practical applicability of wireless testbeds and
mobility measurements.
* Realistic mobility models for self-organizing networks.
* Mobility-centric killer applications.

1. GI/ITG KuVs Fachgespräch WMAN (Wireless Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks)
http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html).
Kommunikation) einzuladen.
Einreichungen sollen formlos per E-Mail an die drei Organisatoren
geschickt werden (Termin und E-Mailadressen siehe unten).
Wichtige Daten
Fr 29.02.2008 - Frist für Einreichungen

Please accept our apologies for receiving multiple copies, and we appreciate
if you can forward to potentially interested persons.
---------------------------------------------------------
Call for Papers
Third International Workshop on Feedback Control Implementation and Design
in Computing Systems and Networks (FeBID 2008)
Sponsored by ACM Sigmetrics 2008
http://www.controlofsystems.org/febid2008/
Traditional practice in performance modeling focuses on using a variety of
techniques including mathematical modeling, simulation, and analysis to
understand the behavior of systems for the purpose of better design and
evaluation. As IT systems, networks, and services become increasingly
complex, this task becomes ever more difficult. In recent years, there has
been considerable success in applying feedback control theory to analyzing
and designing run-time IT control systems. Feedback control theory
complements traditional modeling by providing formal mechanisms to
dynamically control behavior of systems at run-time.
The Third International Workshop on Feedback Control Implementation and
Design in Computing Systems and Networks (FeBID 2008) will be held June 6th,
2008 in Annapolis, Maryland, USA. The FeBID 2008 workshop will offer a
unique opportunity for researchers and practitioners to discuss recent and
innovative results in applying control theory to controlling performance of
computing systems and networks. It will provide a forum to exchange ideas
and experiences on practical control system design and implementation and to
identify future directions and challenges in aligning feedback control
techniques with traditional performance modeling and simulation.
Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to, the
following:
1. Control engineering and applications to server and network systems
. Automated resource allocation
. Virtual environment management
. Centralized or distributed load balancing
. Workload management
. Power management
. Automated configuration management
. Congestion control and queue management
. Control of IT services and business operations
. Control of networks (overlay networks, sensor networks, wireless
networks)
. Control of middleware (Web servers, application servers, database
servers)
. Case studies in applying control theory to systems
2. Control models, methodologies and paradigms
. Control system architecture
. System identification and modeling techniques
. Controllability and observability in computer and network systems
. Actuator and sensor design
. Analysis of system stability and convergence
. Control performance evaluation
. Analysis of system robustness and robust control
. Control algorithms and functions
. Adaptive control design
. Optimal control design
. Nonlinear control
. Decentralized and distributed control
. Supervisory control and discrete event systems
3. Self-configuring, self-organizing, self-tuning, self-healing, or
self-managing systems
. Self-* systems analysis
. Online estimation and adaptation of models
. Problem diagnosis and recovery
. Adaptive performance troubleshooting
. Other emerging techniques for self-* system management (machine
learning,
economic models)
The structure of this workshop will include paper presentations and panels
to encourage discussions and foster future collaborations. We encourage
papers that position research directions in new areas, or share lessons
learned in practical applications.
Authors are invited to submit original contributions in PDF through the
workshop website. All submissions should be formatted according to the
standard ACM proceedings guidelines and not exceed 6 pages in length. Links
to manuscript templates are available at

groups as well as current and future national and international
collaborative projects. We would like to stimulate discussions on
future Internet applications, future wireline and wireless
Internet architectures, and experimental facilities.
The following invited sessions are confirmed
* Future Internet Activities in FP7
* The Future Wireless Internet
* Future Internet Projects
* 100GET: Towards 100 Gigabit Ethernet
* German Activities in IETF
Several international experts from Korea, Japan, and USA have
acknowledged to present their visions.
We seek for further technical presentations addressing research
issues for the future Internet. They should communicate identified
research issues, early insights, and they should strive to foster
discussions among participants.

Recent years have seen an increase in the number of wireless devices as well
as number of applications that run on these devices. It is fairly common to
expect to use these devices to check e-mails and stock quotes as well as pay
bills on line. Given the sensitive nature of the information that is
currently being exchanged over these networks, it is essential to make sure
that high levels of security and privacy be maintained.
This workshop aims to bring together research work in the areas of security
and privacy in wireless networks. The workshop aims to attract research work
that not only address the major research issues involved in achieving a high
level of security and privacy for existing applications, but also research
work that envisages new applications for wireless networks and the security
and privacy challenges unique to these applications.
The workshop solicits papers describing recent, unpublished research in the
general areas of security and privacy in wireless networks. *Authors
of **selected
papers will be invited to expand their work into full length journal paper
for submission to a special issue of the International Journal of Security
and Networks** **(IJSN).* Details of the special issue will be published
shortly. Example topics include:
- Cross-layer approaches to security
- Mobile network security
- Key exchange, distribution and management in ad-hoc/sensor networks
- Location aware security in mobile networks
- Security in large scale networks
- Throughput-Security trade-offs in wireless networks
- Secure group communications
