========================================================================
IEEE Workshop on Delay Tolerant Mobile Networks (DTMN'06)
in conjunction with IEEE IWCMC 2006
(IEEE Sponsorship Pending)
========================================================================
Objective: Mobile communication has experienced an explosive growth during
the last few years. Various researches have been carried out for
mesh-based mobile networks, where an end-to-end path from the source to
the destination always exists. In many application scenarios, however, the
connectivity between the mobile stations is poor, and thus it is difficult
to form a well-connected mesh network for transmitting data through
end-to-end connections. In this workshop we aim to explore novel designs
for such delay tolerant mobile networks and bring together
state-of-the-art contributions in this emerging area.
Topic of Interests: Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the
following:
* New architecture of delay tolerant mobile networks
* New design of protocol stack for delay tolerant mobile networks
* Delay and fault tolerance in mobile peer-to-peer and sensor networks
* Mobility management and modeling
* Security and privacy
* Localization and synchronization
* System modeling and performance evaluation
* Testbed implementation and experimental results
Submission deadline and guideline: see details at IEEE IWCMC website

Final Call for Papers

ACM Transactions on Internet Technology
http://www.acm.org/toit/soa-middleware-cfp.pdf
----------------------------------------------
Special Issue on
-----------------------------------------
Middleware for Service-Oriented Computing
-----------------------------------------
Middleware is a distributed software layer that sits above the network operating
system and below the application layer and abstracts the heterogeneity of the
underlying environment. It provides an integrated distributed environment whose
objective is to simplify the task of programming and managing distributed
applications, and to provide value-added services such as naming and
transactions to enable easier development and integration of applications and
services. Middleware is about integration and interoperability of applications
and services running on heterogeneous computing and communications devices. The
role of middleware will continue to become increasingly important especially in
emerging technologies such as mobile- and service-oriented computing and web
services, where the integration of different applications and services from
different wired and wireless businesses and service providers become
increasingly important.
Service-oriented computing is based on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA),
which is an architectural style for building software applications that use
services available in a network such as the web. It promotes loose coupling
between software components so that they can be reused. Applications in SOA are
built based on services, which is an implementation of a well-define business
functionality, and such services can be consumed by clients in different
applications or business processes. SOA provides a level of flexibility that
was not possible before in the sense that services are software components with
well-defined interfaces that are implementation independent, that services can
be dynamically discovered, and composite services can be built from aggregates
of other services. Especially applications running on mobile devices can
benefit from the flexibility which is provided by SOA. All those benefits,
however, raise challenges that need to be addressed by middleware. Middleware
will play an essential role in managing and provisioning service-oriented
applications. As a result, middleware will be everywhere!
The aim of this special issue is be to present most recent research findings on
“middleware for service-oriented computing”. We are seeking papers that are
original, unpublished and not currently under review by workshops, conferences,
or other journals.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Middleware for selection and interaction among services
Middleware for dynamic selection and composition of services/applications
Middleware for dynamic coordination of services/applications
Middleware for context-aware services/applications
Middleware for managing services/applications
Middleware for provisioning QoS-enabled services/applications
Middleware for interoperable services
Performance evaluation of middleware for service-oriented computing

CALL FOR PAPERS
************************
SECOND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MULTIMEDIA OVER WIRELESS
(in conjunction with IWCMC 2006)
Sheraton Wall Centre, Vancouver, Canada
July 3-6, 2006
http://www.ece.northwestern.edu/~haohong/ismw2006/index.html
The rapid growth in interactive multimedia applications, such as video
telephonies, video games and TV broadcasting has resulted in spectacular
strides in the progress of wireless communication systems. The current third
generation (3G) wireless systems and the next generation (4G) wireless systems
in planning support higher bit rates. However, the high error rates and
stringent delay constraints in wireless systems are still significant
obstacles for these applications and services. On the other hand, the
development of more advanced wireless systems provides opportunities for
proposing novel wireless multimedia protocols and new applications and
services that can take the maximum advantage of the systems.
The symposium aims to provide an excellent forum for all experts working in
these areas to join together and to discuss various important issues on
multimedia over wireless. The timing of this symposium is set such that the
ideas that come out of it can affect the evolution of 4G. The papers submitted
to this symposium should focus on the state-of-the-art research in various
important areas related to emerging technologies and standards on the coding
and transmission of multimedia information over wireless networks. We solicit
papers covering a variety of topics that include, but not limited to the
following subjects:
Advanced multimedia coding algorithms
Error resilient and error concealment
Video quality assessment
Rate control for wireless video
Scalable and multiple description multimedia coding and transmission

format. See the conference web page for detailed instructions.
Poster and Demo Sessions
Do you have interesting work you would like to share, or a great
idea that is not quite ready to be published? Poster sessions are
for you! The poster sessions introduce new or ongoing work. Demos
of working systems and applications are also encouraged. The
MobiSys audience will provide valuable discussion and
feedback. We are particularly interested in presentations of
student work. See the conference web page for submission details.
Workshops
The ACM MobiSys 2006 conference will host a day of workshops on
technical areas related to mobile systems, applications and
services. SIGMOBILE invites workshop proposals from interested
communities. New workshops in emerging areas that can engage
participants in greater interaction are welcome. See the conference
web page for details.

The emergence of broadband wireless access standards, such as 3G/UMTS, 802.16,
802.11a/g and UWB, offers exciting new possibilities for delivering rich
multimedia content over wireless networks. The delivery and transport of rich
multimedia in such wireless environments, including sensor and mesh networks,
requires innovation and advances in better MAC and routing protocols, session
establishment and signaling architectures, QoS provisioning and adaptive
transmission techniques, autonomic network management capabilities and
middleware frameworks, among others.
*** Topics of Interest ***
The IEEE WoWMoM 2006 technical program committee is soliciting papers
addressing the research challenges and advances towards a world of wireless,
mobile, and multimedia pervasive communications. Papers must present original
and previously unpublished work, validated by experimentation, simulation, or
analysis. Practical experiences and experimental efforts, including
submissions from industry, are also welcome. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to, the following:
- System prototypes and experiences
- QoS for voice.video in wireless networks
- Middleware support for QoS provision
- Differentiated services for wireless multimedia
- IP-based wireless multimedia services
- Multimedia session signaling in wireless environments
- Networking services for pervasive systems
- Multicasting and broadcasting issues
- Handoff and mobility management
- Seamless internetworking
- Energy-efficient protocols and power management
- Network management and troubleshooting- IP-based mobile networks
- Context-aware wireless multimedia application

- Wireless BAN, PAN, LAN, and MAN
- Ad hoc and sensor networks
- Wireless mesh networks
- Vehicular wireless networks
- Third and fourth generation systems
- Wireless security and dependability
- Content Management and Distribution
- Pricing and billing
- Modeling and Performance evaluation
Two types of papers will be considered. "Full Papers" must present original,
previously unpublished, complete work, validated by experimentation,
simulation, or analysis. "Position Papers" must be visionary, innovative and
forward-looking, and offer new perspectives on future research directions.
Only a limited number of slots will be available for position papers that will
be reviewed primarily for relevance and originality.
***Submission Dates and Guidelines****
Submission Deadline (extended): November 26, 2005 11:59 PM PST
(Papers must be registered with abstract by November 19, 2005.)
Acceptance Notification: February 21, 2006
