Extended deadline for paper submissions: 09/11/2008 CALL FOR PAPERS: First Workshop on Global Sensor Networks (GSN 09) Collocated with KiVS 09 in Kassel, Germany http://ipvs.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/vs/gsn09 March 6th, 2009 WORKSHOP SCOPE Global sensor networks (GSN) are an emergent research area aiming to offer applications easy and efficient access to sensor data at the scale of billions of sensing devices. While a single sensor network typically provides access to information of a limited geographical area and selected types of sensor data, a GSN provides an application with uniform and transparent access to a multitude of individual sensor networks that may be geographically dispersed, aggregating and correlating different types of data as appropriate for the application. The challenges imposed by global sensor networks are relevant to many fields in computer communications and distributed systems such as sensor networks, complex event and stream processing, pervasive computing, and P2P overlays. This workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners working in relevant fields in order to share ideas, challenges and visions on Global Sensor Networks as well as to foster new cooperation. WORKSHOP TOPICS GSN’09 is looking for contributions related but not limited to the following list of topics in the domain of Global Sensor Networks: - Sensor network protocols - Complex event processing - Distributed stream processing - P2P overlays - Middleware - Security - Query processing and optimization - Quality of service - Applications SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Papers should be submitted in PDF format via the workshop page. Contributions may present i) novel and possibly preliminary research results (full papers 12 pages, short papers 6 pages) , ii) position papers describing major challenges (6 pages), iii) new trends from the industry (2 pages). Each submission will be reviewed by three members of the program committee and are selected according to their originality, quality, and relevance to the workshop topics. Accepted papers will appear in the KIVS Workshop proceedings. For accepted papers at least one author must register with the workshop and give a presentation at the workshop. Submissions must follow the KIVS formatting guidelines and must not exceed the given page limits. Note that contributions in English as well as in German are welcome. Call for Papers 21st International Teletraffic Congress (ITC 21) "Traffic and Performance Issues in Networks of the Future" 15-17 September 2009 - Paris, France http://www.i-teletraffic.org/itc21 TOPIC ITC brings together researchers interested in understanding and improving the way traffic is handled in communication networks. Under the impulsion of proliferating broadband applications and the continuous progress of technological advances, we currently witness a rapid evolution of these networks and the emergence of new usage models. They call for a continuous reappraisal of traffic management procedures and mechanisms. In parallel with the requirement to improve network efficiency and performance by incremental steps, there is currently considerable activity worldwide on the design of new architecture principles and concepts for future networks. How will technological innovations and content-centric networking impact our ability to control traffic flow? What architectural elements and business models are needed to finally meet user expectations for quality and security of their communications in a cost-effective way? Such traffic and performance issues related to the networks of the future are the focus of ITC 21, the next ITC plenary congress that will take place in Paris in September 2009. ITC 21 solicits submission of papers with original contributions relating to traffic and performance issues in computer networks and communication systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, architectural design for traffic efficiency, impact of advances in wired, wireless, and optical technology, network planning and operation, traffic measurement and modelling, performance monitoring, new applications, test bed experiments, and performance evaluation methodology. http://www.i-teletraffic.org/itc21/call-for-papers/ IMPORTANT DATES Submission deadline: February 1st, 2009 Acceptance notification: May 1st, 2009 Camera-ready due: June 1st, 2009 Conference: September 15-17, 2009 SUBMISSION Submitted papers must be unpublished and currently not under review for any other publication. All accepted contributions will be full papers with oral presentations. The resulting global-level behaviors usually show a number of properties essential for success in natural environments such as: adaptivity to environmental variations, robustness to internal changes and failures, and effectiveness and scalability of performance. Because of all these architectural and performance properties, the observation and reverse-engineering of successful processes in organic, inorganic, and animal systems in nature, has drawn in recent years the attention of many researchers and engineers working in the fields of parallel and distributed systems, and, more in particular, in telecommunications networks. In these domains, nature has provided basic inspiration for the definition of a number of novel algorithms and computational frameworks able to deal effectively with the challenges of current networked systems, which show a growing structural and computational complexity and are made of a large number of highly dynamic and heterogeneous components. The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum to present cutting edge research on nature-inspired approaches to problems arising in the design, control, protection, and management of network systems, and to outline new trends in parallel nature-inspired computation for the solution of complex problems. EvoCOMNET is part of EVOSTAR (EVO*), Europe's premier co-located events in the field of evolutionary and nature-inspired computing. EVO* includes the EuroGP, EvoCOP and EvoBIO conferences and a number of workshops collectively entitled EvoWorkshops.
