Call for Book Chapter
Title: Delay Tolerant Networks: Protocols and Applications
(to be published by <http://www.taylorandfrancisgroup.com/> Auerbach
Publications, CRC Press, Taylor&Francis Group)
Introduction
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) arises primarily as a result of various forms
of host and router mobility, but may also come into being as a result of
disconnection due to power management or interference. Examples of such
networks include:
* Terrestrial Mobile Networks: In many cases, these networks may
become un-expectedly partitioned due to node mobility or RF interference. In
other cases, the network may never have an end to end path and may be
expected to be partitioned in a periodic and predictable manner.
* Exotic Media Networks: Exotic communication media includes
near-Earth satel-lite communications, very long-distance radio links (e.g.
deep space RF communications with light propagation delays in the seconds or
minutes), communication using acoustic modulation in air or water, and some
free-space optical communications. These systems may be subject to high
latencies with predictable interruption (e.g. due to planetary dy-namics or
the passing of a scheduled ship), may suffer outage due to environmental
conditions (e.g. weather), or may provide a predictably available
store-and-forward network service that is only occasionally available (e.g.
low-earth orbiting satellites that "pass" by one or more times each day).
* Ad-Hoc and Sensor Networks: These networks are frequently
characterized by extremely limited end-node power, memory, and CPU
capability.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
Aims and Scope
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and
technologists to present new ideas and contributions in the domain of
wireless networking employed to support the needs of future wireless
communication systems. To deal with the increasing complexity of large-
scale wireless networking systems, computers and applications must learn
to manage themselves in accordance with high-level guidance from humans
- a vision that has been referred to as autonomic computing.
Quality, reliability, security and robustness are specific demands to be
provided by future autonomic wireless networks. Cognitive radio has
emerged as a promising technology for maximizing the utilization of the
limited radio bandwidth while accommodating the increasing amount of
services and applications in the wireless networks. Similarly, cross-
layer techniques exploit locally available information for providing
more robust and scalable wireless communication systems.
The purpose of the First International Workshop on Autonomic Wireless
Networking is to bring together researchers and practitioners addressing
all aspects of self-organization, adaptive management of available
resources, cooperation and detection of selfishness in wireless
networks. In doing so, we hope to further build and nurture a community
that can work together to realize the vision of large-scale autonomic
wireless networks.
Papers are solicited in the broad range of wireless networking with
focus on autonomic communication. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
- Smart antenna technologies

CALL FOR PAPERS
Security and Communication Networks Journal (Wiley)
Special Issue on Security and Trust Management for Dynamic Coalitions
---------------------------
Deadline: November 30, 2008
---------------------------
Scope
There is an increasing interest and deployment of technologies that
allow cooperation among entities that may act collectively. These
entities may form dynamic coalitions where entities may leave and join,
may show mobility aspects (either logical or physical), and may act in a
collective manner. Examples of these coalitions can be found in the
digital world, including: a) Crowds of users walking on the streets with
advanced context aware converged telecommunication devices; b) A group
of robots, manned and unmanned vehicles equipped with processors,
sensors, smart-phones, etc. interacting with each other, with their
environment, and with a command or a control node, such as the command
and control site of a defence coalition or a civil traffic control; c) A
set of organizations (possibly virtual) sharing some resource for
service provisions, or so called Virtual Organisations; d) Collaborative
processes that use resources and services offered by partners in a
Virtual Organisation; and e) Web 2.0 mash-ups and composite Web Services
that are composed of services and applications offered by different
service providers over a public network.
These dynamic coalitions involve several technologies as peer to peer
systems (P2P), mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), and service oriented
architectures such as those realised in GRID computing and Web Services
Frameworks. There are several research areas identified as follows: a)
Security in dynamic coalitions; b) trust in dynamic coalitions; c)
security and trust interplay; and 4) secure processes and service
composition.
Topics of interest
This special issue is proposed to cover research results and innovation
case studies on security and trust management on dynamic coalitions.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Semantics and computational models for security and trust in dynamic
coalitions
* Context-based security and trust management architectures, mechanisms
and policies
* Privacy and anonymity issues in trust negotiation
* Enforcing cooperation in dynamic coalitions
* Reputation and recommendation models and architectures for dynamic
coalitions
* Usage control models, languages and architectures in dynamic coalitions
* Cryptographic models and mechanisms for dynamic coalitions
* Security protocols for group management
* Security for Service Oriented Architectures and Infrastructures
* Collaboration and Virtual Organization life-cycle management in
dynamic coalitions
* Federated Identity Management in dynamic coalitions
* Distributed Access Control and administrative delegation in dynamic
coalitions
* Policy verification and validation in order to predict the impact of
changes to an infrastructure in order to support the life-cycle of a
dynamic coalition
* QoS monitoring, evaluation and reporting in dynamic coalitions
* Auditing in dynamic coalitions
* Trust and security in ICT Governance and service management for
dynamic coalitions
* Security frameworks for dynamic service composition
* Security frameworks for Web 2.0 service and application mash-ups

Special Issue of Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal on Human
Behaviour in Ubiquitous Environments
Ubiquitous computing advocates interaction through calm technology
whereby users sense and control what directly interests them, while
retaining tangential awareness of other informational opportunities
that they can at any time choose to focus on. This requires seamless
access to media, information sharing and communication through
heterogeneous systems, which are distributed and may be deeply
embedded in the physical environment. To achieve this goal, it is
necessary to deepen our understanding of human behaviour in context
and its impact on technological issues relevant to ubiquitous
environments. Research in this area is rapidly gaining importance and
has become an essential part of pervasive and mobile computing
systems.
This special issue solicits original papers that contribute to our
understanding of human behaviour and its impact on the design,
development and use of applications in mobile and ubiquitous settings.
Submissions can focus on theoretical and applied research in topics
including, but not limited to:
* Data capture and knowledge discovery for user modelling in
ubiquitous environments
* Machine learning techniques applied to socially-aware ubiquitous systems
* Experience design in socially-aware ubiquitous systems
* Human-computer interaction issues in ubiquitous environments
* Detecting and using patterns of human behaviour in ubiquitous computing
* Modelling and recognition of user activity, mobility and context
* Social computing applications in human-centred ubiquitous environments
* Pervasive user-generated content: applications, systems and practices
* Applications in mobile and ubiquitous environments for learning,
business, social computing, travelling, arts, entertainment, gaming,
healthcare and virtual worlds.
Submissions should be of high standard for an international, archival
research journal, and will be reviewed according to the strict
standards of the PMC journal. Papers should not have been submitted or
published elsewhere but could be extended or refined versions of
conference papers with significant new, original material. Extended
versions or refined versions of conference papers are expected to
differ from the conference version by at least 30% across all sections
- authors are requested to submit their published conference articles
and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal
version. The manuscript preparation guidelines can be obtained from
the PMC Journal's web page (<http://www.elsevier.com/locate/pmc>).
The deadline for submitting manuscripts is March 1, 2009 and authors
will be notified of the decision by June 1, 2009. The final
manuscripts will be due October 1, 2009. Authors should submit their
full manuscripts to the PMC Special Issues (under the "Human
Behaviour" topic), using the Elsevier online Editorial System (EES) at
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/pmc.

Special Issue on Vehicular Wireless Networks and Vehicular Intelligent
Transportation Systems
Aim and Scope:
--------------
With the rapid development of wireless technologies, the Vehicular
Wireless Networks (V-Winet) and Vehicular Intelligent Transportation
Systems (V-ITS) have recently received much attention. V-Winets and
V-ITS aim to ensure traffic safety for drivers, provide comfort for
passengers and reduce transportation time and fuel consumption with
many potential applications. For instance, vehicular safety applications
include automatic collision notification, heavy fog detection and
notification, remote diagnostics, emergency management, and other
assistances for safe driving. Non-safety applications include real-time
traffic congestion notification, location-based driver information services,
high-speed tolling, vehicle tracking, automobile high speed Internet access,
in-place traffic view, and many others. To facilitate these applications,
many different types of communications and networking would be involved,
including intra-vehicle, vehicle-to-vehicle (V-to-V),
vehicle-to-roadside (V-to-R) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V-to-I)
communications for V-Winet and V-ITS to provide timely information or
Internet access to vehicles, drivers, and passengers. Consequently,
V-Winet and V-ITS need to integrate existing networking technologies,
such as IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11p, DSRC, 3G, IEEE 802.16, Bluetooth,
Sensor networks, and ZigBee for easy, accurate, effective and simple
communications among vehicles, users, and infrastructure networks.
This special issue aims to foster the dissemination of high-quality,
original, unpublished research covering all aspects of V-Winet and V-ITS
communications, networking, and applications. Topics of interest include,
but not limited to, the followings:
- Network Architecture of V-Winet/V-ITS
- V-Winet/V-ITS Services and Applications
- Cooperative Aspects of V-Winet/V-ITS
- Availability and Scalability Issues in V-Winet/V-ITS
- Mobility, Traffic Models and Network Management for V-Winet/V-ITS
- Cross-layer Optimization Techniques for V-Winet/V-ITS
- Modulation, Coding, and Channel Modeling for V-Winet/V-ITS
- Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication Protocols
- Vehicle-to-Roadside Communication Protocols
- Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communication Protocols
- Simulation Framework and Real-World Testbeds for V-Winet/V-ITS
- Driving Safety and Related Applications and Services
- Green Technologies and V-Winet/V-ITS
