Call For Papers
ACM Multimedia Systems 2010
February 22-23, 2010
Scottsdale, Arizona
www.mmsys.org
Important Dates:
* September 25, 2009 - Full Paper Submission Deadline
Submit papers via EDAS here: http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=8151
* November 1, 2009 - Notification of Acceptance
* December 1, 2009 - Final Paper Due
* February 22, 2010 - Conference
Over the years, ACM SIG Multimedia has received numerous requests to
create a multimedia systems conference, targeted at the systems
aspects of handling audio, image, video, and graphics data. We are
pleased to announce the First Annual ACM Multimedia Systems (MMSys)
Conference to be held February 22-23, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The ACM Multimedia Systems conference provides a forum for
researchers, engineers, and scientist to present and share their
latest research findings in multimedia systems. While research about
specific aspects of multimedia systems is regularly published in the
various proceedings and transactions of the networking, operating
system, real-time system, and database communities, MMSys aims to cut
across these domains in the context of multimedia data types. This
provides a unique opportunity to view the intersections and interplay
of the various approaches and solutions developed across these domains
to deal with multimedia data types. Furthermore, MMSys provides an
avenue for communicating research that addresses multimedia systems
holistically.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Multimedia Systems
* Multimedia Networking
* Multimedia Operating Systems
* Multimedia Databases
* Large-Scale and Remote Display Architectures
* Real-Time Support For Multimedia
* Networked Games
* Virtual and Augmented Worlds
* Cyber-Physical Systems
* Peer-to-Peer Architectures for Streaming and Multicast
* Modeling of Multimedia Systems
* Multimedia Interfaces
* Multimedia Middleware and Toolkits
* Multimedia Programming Languages
* Cloud-based Multimedia Processing
* Multi-core Support for Multimedia
* Mobile Multimedia Systems
* 3D and Multiview Streaming
Original papers on emerging and traditional areas of multimedia
systems are sought. All submissions should not currently be under
review in another venue and should be prepared using the standard
double-column ACM proceedings style format. Papers should be a maximum
of 12 pages in length. Short papers (3-6 pages) are also encouraged
and will be evaluated for inclusion in a short-paper track.
Papers should be clearly motivated by themes and issues raised
primarily in the context of multimedia applications and data types
such as:
* Continuity of media over time
* Scalability of systems to support multimedia data
* Adaptation of media to support real-time requirements
In addition to the refereed paper publication, there will be two
unique aspects of the Multimedia Systems Conference:
* Multimedia Systems will have an archival site for all its
conferences. Each paper will have a blog area that will allow people
with questions and comments (moderated) about a paper to be
consolidated over time. We hope this will provide a service to the
entire community to allow people to come up to speed more quickly
about papers that have appeared at Multimedia Systems.
* To help facilitate the sharing and common use of data and
software, we will be having a software / data archive track that, as
part of the publication process, will result in a copy of the software
or data archive in the Multimedia Systems web site. This will allow
researchers to more quickly converge on common data sets for
comparisons.

CALL FOR PAPERS
* ACM MONET special issue on "Ubiquitous Body Sensor Networks" *
http://www.bodynets.org/docs/MONET-SI-UBSN-CFP.pdf
============================================================
Overview
Recently, there has been a lot of increasing investigation on a new type
of wireless
sensor network, which is generally known as body sensor networks (BSNs).
Following
the continuous advances in wireless communications technologies, there
is a growing
interest in the design and development of BSNs systems for applications
of improving
people’s daily life, which leads to an increasing demand on
interconnecting BSNs with
other emerging wireless technologies, such as RFID technology, wireless
sensor networks
(WSNs), Zigbee, Bluetooth, WiBree, video surveillance system, WPAN,
WLAN, internet, and
cellular network. With BSNs being incorporated into these technologies,
BSNs become
ubiquitous. The marketing opportunities for advanced consumer
electronics and services
will be expanded extensively. More and more autonomous and intelligent
applications
which are close to human’s life will be generated. For example, by using
body sensors to
collect patient information, and by deploying diverse wireless
networking systems for
enhanced diagnosis assistance and action handling, better E-healthcare
management
system can be designed for providing more desirable services, which
implies huge market
yet to be discovered, due to an increasing demand of E-healthcare
management system
in recent years. In this special issue, we solicit research papers on
body sensor hardware,
system architectures, networking & communication protocols,
applications, test-bed and
prototype, biomedical sensor data processing and management. Especially,
we are
interested in the following communication issues:
*Intra-BSN Communication: The terminology of “intra-BSN communication”
defines the
communication directly relates to the user with the radio coverage of
about 2 meters, which
consists of two categories: (1) the communication among the body
sensors, which are
deployed strategically on the human body or planted inside the body, as
well as attached
within in the human’s clothing; (2) the communication between the body
sensors
and the portable personal server, which typically can be a cell phone,
PDA or headset.
*Inter-BSN communication: The terminology of “inter-BSN communication”
defines the
communication between the personal server and one or multiple access
points. The access
point can be deployed as a part of infrastructure, or strategically
placed in dynamic
environment for handling emergency situation. The inter-BSN
communication will interconnect
BSNs with the wide range networks which are easy to be accessed in daily
life.
*Beyond-BSN communication: The beyond-BSN communication is used to
interconnect BSN
with outside world, which enhances the application and coverage range of
body sensor system
a step further through pervasive communication technology, such as
internet and cellular
networks.
The objective of this special issue is to bring together
state-of-the-art research contributions,
tutorials, and position papers that address these key aspects of
Ubiquitous Body Sensor Networks.
Original papers describing completed and unpublished work not currently
under review by any
other journal/magazine/conference/special issue are solicited.

============================================================================
IEEE Network Magazine Special Issue on
"Future Internet: New Applications and Emerging Services"
(http://www.comsoc.org/livepubs/ni/info/cfp/cfpnetwork0710.html)
============================================================================
Background
The Internet has been successfully deployed for several decades due to its
high flexibility in running over different physical mediums and supporting
different high layer protocols and applications including traditional file
transfer, e-mail, and client-server based web applications. Meanwhile, we
have witnessed the unprecedented development and growth of new applications
and services in recent years ranging from peer-to-peer (P2P) based
applications, image and video applications, location-based services, secured
transactions, online hosting services, machine-to-machine (M2M)
interactions, and cloud computing. These new applications and emerging
services have, in different degree, demanded better than the current
best-effort quality of service.
The future Internet is expected to be more agile, scalable, secure and
reliable, which has been considered and pursued in research projects such as
NSF FIND (Future Internet Design) and GENI (Global Environment for Network
Innovations) programs in the United States, and EIFFEL (Evolved Internet
Future for European Leadership) and FIREworks (Future Internet Research and
Experimentation - Strategy Works) projects in Europe. Such ever-emerging
applications with different requirements and implications for the future
Internet design pose a significantly new set of problems and challenges,
which are not well understood, specifically : 1) how can they be efficiently
provisioned in the future Internet? 2) how can the future Internet be
evolved and/or re-designed possible with radical changes to cater for new
applications and services? The goal of this special issue is to feature
recent and emerging Internet applications and services, their performance,
impact, demands and implications for future Internet design.
Scope
Papers should contain substantial tutorial content and be accessible to a
general audience of researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
*Peer-to-peer applications including file transfer, live video streaming and
VoD
*Utility computing, cloud computing, cloud storage networks
*Online hosting services
*E-commerce, secured transactions
*Mobile services, location-based services
*New service provisioning, quality of service issues
*Impact on backbone and ISP design.
