SENSEAPP 2010
FIFTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES IN
BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2010)
Denver, Colorado, USA
11 - 14 October 2010
Web: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~senseapp
CALL FOR PAPERS
Sensor nodes are tiny autonomous devices that combine sensing, computing
and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are deeply embedded
into the physical surroundings, and gather and process information such
as temperature, humidity, light characteristics, seismic activities or
images and sound samples from the physical world. Networked systems of
such sensors are expected to be used in a variety of applications
including habitat monitoring, precision agriculture, disaster recovery
operations, healthcare and supply chain management. Real-world sensor
network deployments and prototypic implementations are still not
commonplace. However, experiences gained in such deployments are crucial
for the sensor network research community. These results are needed to
refine assumptions made when designing hardware, software, protocols and
mechanisms for sensor networks.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from academia and
industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. We expect the
workshop to act as a forum for the sensor network research community to
discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of
wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions
describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
Innovative sensor network applications
Participatory sensing
Middleware support for sensor networks
Programming and debugging sensor networks
Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
Experiences with new sensor hardware
Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
Experiences with communication protocols
Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network
deployments
Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
Configuration and installation support
Management of large-scale sensor networks
Interconnection between IP and sensor networks
Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the
field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with those
of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the IEEE
Explore Digital Library.
SUBMISSION:
FULL PAPERS: Authors are invited to submit original unpublished work,
not currently under review by another conference, workshop or journal.
Full papers should be restricted to 8 camera-ready pages (in 10 pt font,
double column, US letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches, IEEE format), including
text, figures and references. Authors should use only standard fonts,
i.e. Times Roman, Courier, Symbol, Helvetica or equivalent.
POSTER/DEMOS: Poster papers are an opportunity to present initial
results and obtain feedback on on-going research. We also welcome
submissions for demonstrations that showcase original research,
practical implementations and realistic applications of wireless sensor
networks. Poster/demo papers must be restricted to 2 camera-ready pages
(in 10 pt font, double column, US letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches, IEEE
format), including text, figures and references.

4th ERCIM eMobility Workshop
May 31, 2010 - Luleå, Sweden
Progress in computing and (wireless) communication technologies allow mobile
users to permanently communicate with other persons or to use services and
applications that might even have been designed for mobile users. Mobile
Applications and services require technical solutions on various levels such
as wireless network technologies, communication architectures and protocols
supporting mobility of users and devices, middleware to support security and
flexibility, as well as applications that are adaptive and context
sensitive, although or because mobile devices have usually limited
resources. The target of the workshop is to discuss issues and problems
related to future applications and services based on mobile and wireless
technologies.

Call for Papers for the Third IEEE International Symposium
on Trust, Security and Privacy for Emerging Applications (TSP-10)
Organizer: Trusted Computing Institute, Central South University, China
Bradford, UK, 29 June-1 July, 2010
http://trust.csu.edu.cn/conference/tsp2010
To be held in conjunction with
The 10th IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information
Technology (CIT 2010)
http://www.scim.brad.ac.uk/~ylwu/CIT2010/
Introduction
Satisfying user requirements for trust, security and privacy in an efficient
way is one of the first considerations for almost all emerging applications,
using emerging technologies such as pervasive computing, peer to peer
computing, grid computing, cloud computing, virtualization and, mobile and
wireless technologies. Challenges arise as emerging applications evolve to
provide more scalable and comprehensive services. One of the biggest
challenges is that traditional security technologies and measures may not
meet user requirements in open, dynamic, heterogeneous, and distributed
computing environments. Therefore, we need to build networks and systems in
which emerging applications allow users to enjoy more scalable and
comprehensive services while preserving trust, security and privacy at the
same time.
Following the success of TSP 2008 in Shanghai, China during December 17-20,
2008, and TSP-09 in Macau SAR, China, during October 12-14, 2009, “The Third
IEEE International Symposium on Trust, Security and Privacy for Emerging
Applications (TSP-10)” will be held in Bradford, UK, during June 29-July 1,
2010, in conjunction with “The 10th IEEE International Conference on
Computer and Information Technology (CIT 2010)”, aims at bringing together
researchers and practitioners in the world working on trust, security,

Special Issue on "Advances in Security and Multimodality for Pervasive
Computing Environments"
SMPE-10: http://www.ftrg.org/smpe2010
Pervasive, or ubiquitous, computing calls for the deployment of a wide
variety of smart devices throughout our working and living spaces. These
devices are intended to react to their environment and coordinate with
each other and with other network services. This results in a giant,
ad-hoc distributed system, with tens of thousands of people, devices,
and services coming and going. Due to the uncertainty and mobility of
pervasive computing environments, trust modelling has been regarded as
an important problem. Context-awareness, mobility and integration are
the properties every pervasive computing environment embodies. Pervasive
computing environments (PE) present specific peculiarities with respect
to aspects like security and multimodality. While enlarging and easing
the ways to access to the environment, security threats arise and the
environment must be properly equipped in order to protect itself from

*Special Issue on***
*Software Architectures and Application Development Environments for Cloud
Computing*
* *
*Software: Practice and Experience*
*Publisher: Wiley InterScience* **
**** Call for Papers ****
Cloud computing is positioning itself as a promising platform for delivering
infrastructure (IaaS), platform (PaaS), and software (SaaS) as services. To
this end, developing tools and technologies that can build, access, manage,
deploy, and maintain applications in clouds in a developer-friendly manner
has become critical. Clouds aim to power the next generation data centers by
architecting them as a network of virtual services (hardware, database,
user-interface, application logic) so that users are able to deploy and
access applications globally and on demand at competitive costs depending on
users QoS (Quality of Service) requirements. Cloud infrastructures are
exposed through collections of software services at SaaS and PaaS layers
designed to support creation and deployment of application services.
Currently, public IaaS vendors including Amazon (web services), Microsoft
(.Net), Google (python), and GoGrid offer different level of software
programming abstractions and interfaces. Next, these are implemented using
different programming languages, hence should be accessed through
Vendor-dependent adapter interfaces.
Traditional distributed (RPC, RMI, CORBA) and enterprise programming
technologies (J2EE, .Net, SOA), and tools are insufficient to handle the
complexity posed by Cloud computing platforms. There are significant
programming challenges to be solved, if an enterprise or scientific
application has to be ported to clouds. The application services arriving at
a public cloud also have radically different application characteristics and
workload profiles, ranging from the traditional e-Commerce application
types, to the newer social networking and collaboration applications, to the
enterprise business applications such as CRM and ERP, and to the scientific
computing and data intensive type of applications. Further, there is
possibility to create Cloud mashup applications that can combine data and
functionality from multiple external services that are offered by different
SaaS and PaaS vendors.
Hence, there is a need to develop tools, programming APIs, and plug-ins,
IDEs that can hide the complexity of Cloud platforms from the application
service developers. The primary objective of this special issue is to
capture the state-of-the-art in design and development of Cloud application
service programming environments, tools and technologies.
* *
*Topics*
Areas of interest for this special issue include the following:
- Software architectures for SaaS and PaaS
- Programming models for cloud applications
- Cloud application deployment tools
- Public and private cloud application and data integration
architectures
- Portability of applications and data between different cloud

Collaborative Modeling and Simulation
CALL FOR PAPERS
#################################################################
June 28 - June 30, 2010, Larissa (Greece) *

#################################################################
Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is increasingly becoming a central
activity in the design of new systems and in the analysis of
existing systems because it enables designers and researchers to
investigate systems behavior through virtual representations. For
this reason, M&S is gaining a primary role in many industrial and
research fields, such as space, critical infrastructures,
manufacturing, emergency management, biomedical systems and
sustainable future. However, as the complexity of the
investigated systems increases and the types of investigations
widens, the cost of M&S activities increases because of the more
complex models and of the communications among a wider number and
variety of M&S stakeholders (e.g., sub-domain experts, simulator
users, simulator engineers, and final system users). To address
the increasing costs of M&S activities, collaborative
technologies must be introduced to support these activities by
fostering the sharing and reuse of models, by facilitating the
communications among M&S stakeholders, and more generally by
integrating processes, tools and platforms.
Aside from seeking applications of collaborative technologies to
M&S activities, the workshop seeks innovative contributions that
deal with the application of M&S practices to the design of
collaborative environments. These environments are continuously
becoming more complex and therefore their design requires
systematic approaches to meet the required quality of
collaboration. This is important for two reasons: to reduce
rework activities on the actual collaborative environment, and to
maximize the productivity and the quality of the process the
collaborative environment supports. M&S offers the methodologies
and tools for such investigations and therefore it can be used to
improve the quality of collaborative environments.
A non-exhaustive list of hi-level topics includes:
* collaborative environments for M&S
* agent-based M&S
* collaborative distributed simulation
* net-centric M&S
* web-based M&S
* model sharing and reuse
* model building and evaluation
* modeling and simulation of business processes
* modeling for collaboration
* simulation-based performance evaluation of collaborative
networks
* model-driven simulation engineering
* domain specific languages for the simulation of collaborative
environments
* domain specific languages for collaborative M&S
To stimulate creativity, however, the workshop maintains a wider
scope and invites interested researchers to present contributions
that offer original perspectives on collaboration and M&S.
