SENSEAPP 2010
FIFTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES IN
BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2010)
Denver, Colorado, USA
11 - 14 October 2010
Web: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~senseapp
CALL FOR PAPERS
Sensor nodes are tiny autonomous devices that combine sensing, computing
and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are deeply embedded
into the physical surroundings, and gather and process information such
as temperature, humidity, light characteristics, seismic activities or
images and sound samples from the physical world. Networked systems of
such sensors are expected to be used in a variety of applications
including habitat monitoring, precision agriculture, disaster recovery
operations, healthcare and supply chain management. Real-world sensor
network deployments and prototypic implementations are still not
commonplace. However, experiences gained in such deployments are crucial
for the sensor network research community. These results are needed to
refine assumptions made when designing hardware, software, protocols and
mechanisms for sensor networks.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from academia and
industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. We expect the
workshop to act as a forum for the sensor network research community to
discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of
wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions
describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
Innovative sensor network applications
Participatory sensing
Middleware support for sensor networks
Programming and debugging sensor networks
Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
Experiences with new sensor hardware
Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
Experiences with communication protocols
Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network
deployments
Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
Configuration and installation support
Management of large-scale sensor networks
Interconnection between IP and sensor networks
Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the
field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with those
of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the IEEE
Explore Digital Library.
SUBMISSION:
FULL PAPERS: Authors are invited to submit original unpublished work,
not currently under review by another conference, workshop or journal.
Full papers should be restricted to 8 camera-ready pages (in 10 pt font,
double column, US letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches, IEEE format), including
text, figures and references. Authors should use only standard fonts,
i.e. Times Roman, Courier, Symbol, Helvetica or equivalent.
POSTER/DEMOS: Poster papers are an opportunity to present initial
results and obtain feedback on on-going research. We also welcome
submissions for demonstrations that showcase original research,
practical implementations and realistic applications of wireless sensor
networks. Poster/demo papers must be restricted to 2 camera-ready pages
(in 10 pt font, double column, US letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches, IEEE
format), including text, figures and references.

ACM VANET 2010
Vehicle to Vehicle -- Vehicle to Roadside -- Vehicle to Internet
The Seventh ACM International Workshop on VehiculAr Inter-NETworking
In conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2010
Date: September 24, 2010
Chicago, IL, USA
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
http://winlab.rutgers.edu/~fanbai/vanet2010/
Important Dates:
Paper Submission Deadline: April 23, 2010
Notification of Acceptance: June 25, 2010
Camera-Ready Deadline: July 15, 2010
The goal of this workshop is to present and discuss recent advances in
the development of vehicular
inter-networking (VANET) technologies. Apart from new and original
technical research results, this
year we welcome papers on organizational and economic models.
Based on short- and medium-range communication as well as on cellular
systems, vehicular inter-
networking will enable vehicular safety applications (including
collision avoidance and safety warnings),
efficiency applications (e.g.real-time traffic congestion and routing
information) and other commercial
or public authority applications (high-speed tolling, mobile
infotainment, and many others).
The creation of high-performance, highly reliable, highly scalable,
secure, and privacy-preserving VANET
technologies presents an extraordinary challenge for the wireless
research community. Clearly, the
specificity of vehicular inter-networking in terms of mobility behavior,
applications scenarios, and
application requirements makes VANET research an exciting and demanding
application- and purpose-driven
sub-discipline of wireless networking. Furthermore, VANET present a very
active field of research,
development, standardization, and field trials. Throughout the world,
there are many national and
international projects in government, industry, and academia devoted to
VANET. These include research
programs like the ones on cooperative systems within the eSafety
framework of the European Union, the
Intellidrive initiative in the US, Smartway, DSSS (Driving Safety
Support System) and ASV (Advanced Safety
Vehicle) in Japan, simTD in Germany and SCOREF in France.
Standardization is well under way with the
activities worldwide in ISO TC204 and IEEE (802.11p and 1609.x), SAE
J2735 in the US, ETSI TC ITS and CEN
WG278 in Europe and ARIB T-75 in Japan.
Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research related to
the theory or practice of vehicular
inter-networking (VANET). All submissions must describe original
research results, not published or
currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Channel modeling
- Modulation and coding
- Power control and scalability issues
- Medium access control protocols
- Multi-channel organization and operation
- Communication protocol design
- Safety, efficiency and commercial applications
- Vehicle-to-vehicle/roadside/Internet communication
- Simulation frameworks
- Field operational testing
- Test methodologies
- Impact assessment
- Network management
- Security issues and countermeasures
- Privacy issues
- Organisational and economic models
Submission Instructions
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Papers must be in
PDF format, no longer than 10 pages,
use the ACM SIG Proceedings Templates
(http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) and must
fit properly on US Letter-sized paper (8.5 inch x 11 inch) with
reasonable margins. Submitted papers will be
judged based on their quality through a double-blind review process,
where the identities of the authors are
withheld from the reviewers. We also encourage the submission of
position papers with a maximum length of 6
pages (following the ACM SIG Proceedings Templates above). Position
papers will generally include preliminary
results and are expected to describe highly original ideas, discuss new
directions, or generate insightful
discussion at the workshop. Position papers can be a good way to obtain
early feedback before submitting
complete work to highly selective venues such as ACM MobiCom.
Detailed instructions for paper submission will be posted on the VANET
2010 web page at:
http://winlab.rutgers.edu/~fanbai/vanet2010/.

************* Paper submission deadline: July 9, 2010 **************
The recent advances in wireless communications and networking have
motivated the use of these technologies in environments where no
computer has gone before. More specifically, the ubiquitous data
gathering, computation, and communication capabilities of tiny sensors
motes, microprocessors, and mobile communication devices have recently
been exploited in places such as underground mines, tunnels, and soil;
underwater environments such as oceans and rivers; the outer space;
and locations affected by natural disasters. Wireless communication in
these challenged environments is characterized by the direct impact of
the physical world environment on the communication and networking
performance. Accordingly, the traditional definitions of communication
channel, connectivity, network topology, packet route, or message
delivery may no longer hold true. To provide the required guarantees
for applications in these environments, a fundamental understanding of
the environmental impacts on communication as well as the physical
layer affects on higher layer protocols is required. Moreover, cross-
layer solutions that address the challenges in these environments by
incorporating the interactions between the environment and
communication performance are beneficial. Consequently, environment-
aware solutions that adapt to the changes in their environment can be
realized.
This special issue is dedicated to recent advances in communication
and networking in challenged environments. Papers describing
applications, protocols, analysis models, evaluation methods, and
experimental studies are solicited.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Network architectures
- Analysis models
- Channel models
- Resiliency, reliability, and robustness
- Communication protocols (transport, routing, MAC, error control,
security)
- Cross-layer design and optimization
- Localization solutions
- Deployment scenarios and experiences
in Challenged Environments including:
- Underground (Mines, tunnels, and soil)
- Underwater
- Space
- Disaster areas
- Urban areas

Dear Dr Wolf,
Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory has recently changed its Aims and
Scope.
The new, updated Aims and Scope are:
The journal Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory provides a forum for
original, high quality papers dealing with any aspect of systems simulation
and modelling.
The journal aims at being a reference and a powerful tool to all those
professionally active and/or interested in the methods and applications of
simulation. Submitted papers will be peer reviewed and must significantly
contribute to modelling and simulation in general or use modelling and
simulation in application areas.
Paper submission is solicited on:
• theoretical aspects of modelling and simulation including formal
modelling,
model-checking, random number generators, sensitivity analysis, variance
reduction techniques, experimental design, meta-modelling, methods and
algorithms for validation and verification, selection and comparison
procedures etc.;
• methodology and application of modelling and simulation in any area,
including computer systems, networks, real-time and embedded systems,
mobile and intelligent agents, manufacturing and transportation systems,
management, engineering, biomedical engineering, economics, ecology and
environment, education, transaction handling, etc.;
• simulation languages and environments including those, specific to
distributed computing, grid computing, high performance computers or
computer networks, etc.;
• distributed and real-time simulation, simulation interoperability;
• tools for high performance computing simulation, including dedicated
architectures and parallel computing.
Papers covering applications should be presented in such a way that the
separate steps in the process, such as model development, computer
implementation of the derived model, mathematical and scalability problems
encountered and validation/verification with real data become transparent
to all readers.
Theory may play an important role in a paper, but it should be presented in
the context of its applicability to the work being described. For
application-oriented readers it is essential that theoretical papers should
cover the following aspects: why the theory is relevant and how it can be
applied, what is the novelty of the approach and what are the benefits and
objectives of a new theory, method or algorithm; what experience has been
obtained in applying the approach and what innovations did result.
(Variations from these prototypes, such as comprehensive surveys of active
research areas, critical reviews of existing work, and book reviews, will
be considered provided they make a clear contribution to the field).
Special issues on specific topics will be published from time to time;
proposals for such issues are invited.
All manuscripts should still be submitted via the journal's editorial
handling system
http://ees.elsevier.com/simpat.

Call for Papers

Motivation
So müssen
B. Belastung in
Transport- und Verteilnetzen, Berechnung virtueller Kraftwerke,
Lastgangsimulationen bei hohem Durchdringungsgrad an elektrisch betriebenen
Fahrzeugen
- Neue Verfahren zur Prognostizierung von Erzeugung und Verbrauch (z. B.
durch Anwendung von Fuzzy Logic)
- Modellierung und Durchführung von kollaborativen Geschäftsprozessen unter
Einhaltung rechtlicher Anforderungen
- Neuartige (Web-basierte) Informationssysteme, (mobile) Anwendungen und
Dienste auf Basis von Smart Metering und Kommunikationskanälen zwischen
Lieferanten, Netz, Messdienstleister und Verbrauchern
- Kommunikation und Anwendungen für Elektrofahrzeuge, z. B. auf Basis von
Car-2-car/Car-2-X-Kommunikation
energietechnischer Anlagen (z. B. agentenbasierte Systeme mit dem Ziel der
Energieeffizienzsteigerung)
- Einsatz von Kommunikationsstandards und Informationsmodellen für
Smart-Grid-Infrastrukturen (bspw. im Umfeld von Energie-Marktplätzen oder
der Steuerung von Anlagen im Feld)

CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop Objectives
Recently, wireless mesh and ad hoc networking is attracting significant
interest from academia, industry, and standard organizations. With
several favorable characteristics, such as dynamic self-organization,
self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance, high scalability and
reliable services, wireless mesh networks have been advocated as a
cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and
ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking,
enterprise networking, or community networking. Despite recent advances,
and the technical accumulations from more than a decade of research
efforts in mobile ad hoc networks, many research issues remain in all
protocol layers of wireless mesh networks. For example, the introduction
of mixed (infrastructure and ad hoc) architecture, multi-radio,
multi-channel, and multi-antenna, have brought new challenges in the
design of physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application
scenarios, such as all-wireless office, are urging researchers to
address enhanced QoS support and various security issues in the design
of different protocol layers for wireless mesh networks.
This workshop aims to bring together the technologies and researchers
who share interest in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. Its
main purpose is to promote discussions of research and relevant
activities in the design of architectures, protocols, algorithms,
services, and applications for wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. Also,
this workshop aims at increasing the synergy between academic and
industry professionals working in this area. We seek papers that address
theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress at the all layers of
wireless mesh and ad hoc networks, from application layer to the
physical layer.
Topics covered in this workshop will include, but will not be limited
to, the following:
• Multi-radio and multi-channel wireless mesh networking

Betreff: [Tccc] MobiCom/MobiHoc 2010 CHANTS Workshop Initial CFP
Datum: Mon, 22 Mar 2010 15:57:23 +0100
Von: Pan Hui <ben(a)net.t-labs.tu-berlin.de>
An: tccc(a)lists.cs.columbia.edu, brenton(a)cs.wisc.edu
Dear Colleagues,
Please find our initial announcement for CHANTS 2010. This year it will
be colocated with ACM MobiCom/MobiHoc 2010
Fifth Workshop on Challenged Networks (CHANTS 2010)
September 2010, Chicago, USA
Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is
desired, but traditional internet protocol architectures fail to provide
it effectively. Such networks may be characterized by a heterogeneous
mix of nodes, nodal churn, and widely varying network conditions.
Common examples of challenged networks include high delay environments
such as inter-planetary networks, limited power environments such as
sensor and wildlife monitoring networks, and communication in settings
that lack infrastructure such as rural and remote areas, and military
battlefields. Challenged networks may also be found in everyday
settings, when access to traditional infrastructure is restricted,
expensive, overly complex, or rapidly changing. The goal of the
challenged network engineer is to design and implement systems for
effective and efficient communication in this diverse range of conditions.
This workshop builds on the success of the four previous CHANTS
workshops, and WDTN 2005. CHANTS provides an ideal venue for
researchers and engineers to present cutting-edge work and results in
the field of challenged networks. The workshop solicits papers and
demos addressing the following topics:
* Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs)
* Architecture, design, implementation, and evaluation of
communication systems for challenged networks
* Case studies involving real challenged network solutions in
various stages of development or use
* Analysis and characterization of challenged networks and protocols
* Applications in challenged networks
* Configuration, management, and monitoring of challenged networks
* Security concerns and solutions in challenged networks
* Test and simulation tools for evaluating challenged network systems
* Applications challenged networking techniques to communication in
daily life
Selected papers will be forward-looking, will describe their
relationship to existing work, and will have impact and implications for
ongoing or future research. In addition, demos have been an integral
part of CHANTS. Paper authors who can also run a demo of their work are
encouraged to do so. In exceptional cases, where live demos are simply
not practical to present, poster or video presentations of practical
results are acceptable.
