AIMS AND SCOPE
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) offer unprecedented capabilities for
integrating sensing with computing and communication as well as for
distributed sensing, coordination and control. While WSNs have been a
subject of intensive research for about a decade, most research activities
to date focused on sensor nodes typically deployed in static, pre©\
determined locations with sensor readings taken at regular intervals and
multi©\hopped to a static sink for subsequent storage and analysis. The next
evolutionary step for sensor networks is to handle mobility in all its
forms. That is, mobility of sinks, mobility of sensors and actuators as well
as mobility of code (i.e. applications). The mobility extension represents a
more recent research subject in sensor networking; mobility opens up a whole
new level of research opportunities and challenges in WSNs, and
significantly expands the types of applications for which WSNs can be used.
This workshop aims to highlight the benefits and challenges from such a step
and outline the state of the art in this particularly promising research
area. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Sink mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Actuator networks
- Mobile sensor©\actuator networks
- Code mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobile agent©\based data aggregation in Wireless Sensor
Networks
- Localization techniques in wireless sensor and actuator
networks
- Mobility issues in underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility©\assisted communication in Wireless Sensor
Networks
- Mobility management in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Connectivity maintenance in Wireless Sensor Networks
with mobile elements
- Mobility for maximizing network lifetime in Wireless
Sensor Networks
- Mobility models for sinks and actuators in Wireless
Sensor Networks
- Routing protocols for handling mobility
- Distributed algorithms and reasoning in Wireless Sensor
Networks with mobile elements
- Data fusion techniques in Wireless Sensor Networks

CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop on optimization issues in energy efficient distributed systems
(OPTIM 2012)
As part of
The International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation
(HPCS 2012)
July 2 – July 6, 2012
Madrid, Spain
http://hpcs2012.cisedu.info/
***Submission deadline: March 12, 2012***
============================================================================
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Minimization of energy consumption has become a central issue in
designing distributed systems that range from wireless ad hoc networks
to data centers.
Because battery technologies have not yet matched advances in hardware
and software technologies, saving energy in battery-operated devices is
very important for mobile/wireless networks. Similarly, minimizing
energy consumption in high performance computing centers will, in
addition to saving power consumption, require less cooling mechanisms.
These new challenges require innovative and effective optimization
solutions for minimizing power consumption in distributed systems, such
as energy-efficient scheduling algorithms and energy-efficient Medium
Access Control (MAC) protocols.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers who are
interested in addressing issues of concern and challenges related to
optimizing computing system power consumption, energy efficient systems,
and distributed systems.
Both theoretical papers and papers describing practical experiences will
be welcome.
The Workshop topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Optimization of energy-efficient protocols/algorithms
- Energy-efficient scheduling algorithms
- Energy-efficient cross-layer protocols
- Energy-efficient MAC protocols
- Energy-efficient routing protocols
- Voltage and frequency scaled networks
- Energy-efficient communication protocols
- Energy-efficient protocols/algorithms in PHY, IP layers or above
- Hardware solutions for achieving energy efficiency in large-scale
networked systems
- Virtualization techniques for energy efficiency
- Network models and simulation modules/tools for energy efficient solutions
============================================================================
PAPER SUBMISSIONS
You are invited to submit original and unpublished research works on
above and other topics related to optimization issues in energy
efficient distributed systems. Submitted papers must not have been
published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Submission should
include a cover page with authors' names, affiliation addresses, fax
numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses. Please, indicate clearly
the corresponding author and include up to 6 keywords from the above
list of topics and an abstract of no more than 400 words. The full
manuscript should be at most 7 pages using the two-column IEEE format.
Additional pages will be charged additional fee. Please include page
numbers on all preliminary submissions to make it easier for reviewers
to provide helpful comments.
Submit a PDF copy of your full manuscript via email to the Workshop
organizers at pascal.bouvry(a)uni.lu<mailto:pascal.bouvry@uni.lu> and

organizers. Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews. Papers
will be selected based on their originality, relevance, technical
clarity and presentation. Submission implies the willingness of at
least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted.
Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be
registered and presented at the workshop.
Accepted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings.
Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted
on the HPCS 2012 Conference web site. It is our intent to have the
proceedings formally published in hard and soft copies and be available

CALL FOR PAPERS
PWSN 2012
4th International Workshop on Performance Control in Wireless Sensor
Networks
http://www.netrl.cs.ucy.ac.cy/pwsn2012/
May 18 2012, Hangzhou, China
In conjunction with the 8th IEEE International Conference on Distributed
Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '12)

Important dates:
-----------------------
Paper Submission deadline: March 10, 2012
Acceptance Notification: April 5, 2012
Camera Ready Paper: April 20, 2012
Workshop date: May 18, 2012
Scope
--------
Wireless sensor networks are currently the subject of intense research
and many prototype installations are currently investigated. However,
most of the existing sensor network installations have in common that
they are not considered time critical. No immediate action has to be
undertaken as a response to the received data. In contrast, many
envisioned future application areas of wireless sensor networks (such as
plant automation and control, traffic management, medical applications,
emergency solutions) require immediate and guaranteed actions. In such
environments, data has to be transported reliably and in time through
the sensor network towards the end user. To make the networking task
more complex, in many applications the end user or the controlling
intelligence is located remotely (e.g., remote monitoring, supervision
and surveillance applications), and the wireless sensor network
interworks with other networks (e.g., fixed infrastructure cellular,
Internet). Due to the lack of appropriate models, components and
protocols, it is currently very difficult to construct and operate a
wireless sensor network with performance guarantees. Thus, the
commercial success of wireless sensor networks in many application areas
is unsure unless this particular problem is understood and solved.
The PWSN workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners
working on performance issues within wireless sensor networks. The
workshop intends to examine research challenges associated with
achieving dependability in WSNs, share experiences from real-life
deployment of dependable sensor networks, discuss application-dependent
wireless sensor-actuator design methodologies, illustrate dependable
MAC, network and transport protocols, and in general, explore issues of
reliability in WSNs.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
--------------------------------------------------
* Architectures: real-time systems, critical network architectures
* Applications: Critical applications, application requirements, novel
applications and real-world deployments
* Models: Traffic models, channel models, mathematical models of network
performance
* MAC protocols: MAC protocols with deterministic behavior, MAC
protocols to balance forwarding performance and energy consumption.
* Routing and topology control: Methods to control network topology,
services for time, location, and power management, topology robustness,
reliability and fault tolerance
* Data transport: Control of data transport delay and reliability,
methods to improve data forwarding performance in sensor networks, data
storage, retrieval, and processing.
* Operating systems: Performance optimization and control of sensor
network operating systems.
* Middleware: Middleware/frameworks providing performance guarantees for
sensor network applications.
* Security: System security and data integrity methods, Impact of

CALL FOR PAPERS
The advancement in sensing, embedded computing, and wireless
communication has accelerated the progress of adopting sensor networks
to form Body Area Networks (BodyNets).
BodyNets integrate and deploy wireless sensors, RFID tags, and other
pervasive devices within and around human bodies for constructing
diverse and practical systems for
physiological monitoring, human computer interaction, and provision of
entertainment. This conference will explore and explain the scope and
challenges of designing,
building, and deploying BodyNets. In this regard, the conference aims to
establish a forum to exchange ideas, discuss practices, raise awareness,
and share experiences
among researchers and practitioners in the field of computer science,
electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, medicine, and other
disciplines in both academia
and industry. This conference also allows authors to present new and
emerging trends to address the technical, social, system and application
issues related to BodyNets.
The Conference continues its tradition of being the premier forum for
presentation of results on cutting-edge research in BodyNets. While the
mission of the conference is
to share novel basic research ideas as well as experimental applications
in the BodyNets area in addition to identifying new directions for
future research and development
the new scientific topics such as nano communication networks,
bio-inspired networks, molecular networks, etc. will be considered.
BodyNets 2012 will give researchers a
unique opportunity to share their perspectives with others interested in
the various aspects from molecular to micro level communication to novel
applications in medicine, gaming to automobile industry. The conference
consists of four symposia that cover a broad range of research aspects.
In addition, the program will include three outstanding keynote speakers
from academia and industry. A panel session on “Nano communications
networks: from theory to practical applications” and an industrial track
will surely provoke thoughtful discussions. There will also be two
tutorials given free of charge to all BodyNets 2012 attendees. We hope
that the conference proceedings will serve as a valuable reference to
researchers and developers in the area.

ICWCUCA 2012: International Conference on Wireless Communications in
Unusual and Confined Areas
Clermont-Ferrand, France, August 28th-30th, 2012
Website: http://icwcuca2012.clermont-universite.fr/
Submission deadline: March 1st, 2012

Technically sponsored by: IEEE, IEEE France, IEEE Quebec, URSI.
SUMMARY
=======
ICWCUCA 2012 (International Conference on Wireless Communications in
Unusual and Confined Areas) is the third of a series of events
focusing on wireless communications in harsh environments (such as
confined areas, underground tunnels, inside industrial buildings or
vehicles). ICWCUCA is a forum for academic researchers, professionals
and industrial specialists that are interested in innovative
applications or field trials related to telecommunications in such
confined areas.
ICWCUCA was originally dedicated to wireless communications in
confined environments for industrial mining applications. This year,
the conference addresses a broader spectrum including unusual
environments, wireless sensor network applications, and wireless
network applications. An unusual environment refers to an environment
that can be hazardous, costly or hard to reach. Such an environment
can have experienced a natural or industrial disaster, or can be a
remote natural area. It is subject to specific propagation conditions
(as it is the case in mine galleries or inside the human body). In
these conditions, network solutions have to be self-powered, robust
against node losses, deployed quickly, and they have to provide a
service during a long period (usually expressed in years). Thus,
research on wireless sensor networks is a topic for ICWCUCA.
Communication protocols that have limited energy consumption, that are
resistant to losses and that can satisfy the application temporal
constraints, on a peculiar physical medium, are the main expected
contributions.
SCOPE
=====
This year, the topics include, but are not limited to:
- Propagation and Medium Characterization,
- Modulation and Signal,
- Antenna,
- Wireless Sensor Network,
- Communications for Mine Applications,
- Applications of WLAN and WPAN,
- Modeling, Simulation, Tests,
- Intra-Vehicular and Inter-Vehicular Communications,
- Communications between Life-Monitoring Devices.

Sheraton Sand Key Resort, Clearwater, Florida, USA
Sensor nodes are autonomous devices that combine sensing, computing
and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are deeply
embedded into the physical surroundings, and gather and process
information such as temperature, humidity, light characteristics,
seismic activities or images and sound samples from the physical
world. Networked systems of such sensors are expected to be used in a
variety of applications including habitat monitoring, precision
agriculture, disaster recovery operations, healthcare and supply chain
management. Real-world sensor network deployments are still scarce,
yet prototypic implementations are getting more common, particularly
with the advent of novel sensing platforms such as smartphones, which
allow for extending dedicated sensor networks. Experiences gained in
such deployments are crucial for the sensor network research
community. These results are needed to refine assumptions made when
designing hardware, software, protocols and mechanisms for sensor
networks.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from both academia
and industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. We expect the
workshop to act as a forum for the sensor network research community
to discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of
wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions
