7th International Workshop on Real-World Embedded
Wireless Systems and Networks (RealWSN'18)
in conjunction with ACM SenSys 2018
November 4, 2018 - Shenzhen, China

----------------------------------------------------------------------
!!! DEADLINE EXTENDED !!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Complementing the topics of ACM SenSys 2018, the RealWSN workshop
brings researchers and industry practitioners together to explore
the challenges, issues, and opportunities in the development and
deployment of real-world embedded wireless systems and networks.
******** TOPICS ********
The 2018 edition of the RealWSN workshop tackles primarily the
development and deployment of wireless sensing applications in the
real world. Among others, it will gather the best practices from
renowned and experienced researchers and practitioners, providing
an answer to several open questions, such as how to quickly and
efficiently deploy an application in mostly unknown environments.
Sensing applications include, but are not limited to:
- Wireless sensor and actuator networks;
- Mobile sensing, smartphone sensing;
- Crowd sensing;
- Cyber-physical systems;
- Internet of Things applications.
The targeted topics include, but are not limited to:
- Practical experiences from real-world deployments;
- Datasets gathered from real-world applications;
- Hands-on experiences with integration of WSNs into the Internet
of Things;
- Experiences with harsh environmental conditions (e.g., underground,
underwater, and in-body communication);
- Energy aspects such as harvesting, as well as intermittent and
transient computing methods;
- Negative results and unsuccessful deployments;
- Hands-on experience with new wireless sensing and IoT/M2M/CPS
technologies;
- Software tools for characterization, parameterization and
automation of sensing applications;
- Programming and debugging of wireless systems and networks in the
field;
- Management of faulty and malicious data in the real world;
- Works in progress and not yet solved issues.
******** SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS ********
Workshop papers (max 6 pages) or demo/poster abstracts (2 pages)
together with all relevant documentation (source code, trace files,
etc.) should be submitted by the paper submission deadline.
Submissions should be unpublished, and not currently under review
by another conference or journal. Furthermore, submissions must be
in PDF format with all fonts embedded, and be formatted according
to the official ACM Proceedings format.
The collaborative nature of the workshop starts at the review process,
where non-blinded comments (reviewers identities will be revealed to
authors) about the submitted papers will be provided to the authors
for discussion. Works in progress, position papers, or the
presentation of new challenges are highly welcome.
Guidelines for submission are available at:

---------------------
The ACM Multimedia Systems Conference (MMSys) provides a forum for
researchers to present and share their latest research findings in
multimedia systems. While research about specific aspects of multimedia
systems are regularly published in the various proceedings and
transactions of the networking, operating systems, real-time systems,
databases, mobile computing, distributed systems, computer vision, and
middleware communities, MMSys aims to cut across these domains in the
context of multimedia data types. This provides a unique opportunity to
investigate the intersections and the interplay of the various
approaches and solutions developed across these domains to deal with
multimedia data types.
MMSys is a venue for researchers who explore:
— Complete multimedia systems that provide a new kind of multimedia
experience or systems whose overall performance improves the
state-of-the-art through new research results in more than one component, or
— Enhancements to one or more system components that provide a
documented improvement over the state-of-the-art for handling continuous
media or time-dependent services.
Such individual system components include:
— Operating systems
— Distributed architectures and protocol enhancements
— Domain languages, development tools, and abstraction layers
— Using new architectures or computing resources for multimedia
— New or improved I/O architectures or I/O devices, innovative uses, and
algorithms for their operation
— Representation of continuous or time-dependent media
— Metrics, measures, and measurement tools to assess performance
This touches aspects of many hot topics including but not limited to:
content preparation and delivery systems, HDR, games,
virtual/augmented/mixed reality, 3D video, immersive systems,
plenoptics, 360° video, volumetric video delivery, multimedia IoT, multi
and many-core, GPGPUs, mobile multimedia and 5G, wearable multimedia,
P2P, cloud-based multimedia, cyber-physical systems, multi-sensory
experiences, smart cities, QoE.
Papers should be between 6-12 pages long (in PDF format) prepared in the
ACM style and written in English. MMSys papers enable authors to present
entire multimedia systems or research work that builds on considerable
amounts of earlier work in a self-contained manner. MMSys papers are
published in the ACM Digital Library. The papers are double-blind reviewed.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least three TPC members. All
papers will be evaluated for their scientific quality. Authors will have
a chance to submit their rebuttals before online discussions among the
TPC members.
ACM SIGMM has a tradition of publishing open datasets (MMSys) and open
source projects (ACM Multimedia). MMSys 2019 will continue to support
scientific reproducibility, by implementing the ACM reproducibility
badge system
(https://www.acm.org/publications/policies/artifact-review-badging/).
All accepted papers will be contacted by the Reproducibility Chair,
inviting the authors to make their dataset and code available, and thus,
obtaining an ACM badge (visible at the ACM DL). The additional material
will be published as Appendixes, with no effect on the final page count
for papers.

Passive and Active Measurement Conference (PAM 2019)
March 27-29, 2019
Puerto Varas, Patagonia, Chile
Paper registration deadline --> 10th October 2018, 8:59:59pm EDT
Paper submission deadline --> 17th October 2018, 8:59:59pm EDT
Author notification --> 10th December 2018
We are very happy to announce the 20th edition of the Passive and Active
Measurement conference, organized for the very first time in
South-America, at the amazing Patagonia region.
***Call for Papers***
The Passive and Active Measurement (PAM) conference brings together
researchers and operators to discuss novel and emerging work in the area
of network measurement and analysis.
PAM is inclusive of all areas of network measurement, but focuses on
systems-based research and real-world data. Indeed, measurement
technology is needed at all layers of the network stack, ranging from
power profiling of hardware components to virtualization in data centers
to application profiling and even user experience. Work with operational
impact or relevance to the broader network research community is
especially welcome, as is early and promising measurement technique.
Original contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the
following areas are invited:
+ Applications, e.g., web, video, games
+ Protocols
+ Measurement tools and software
+ User behavior and experience
+ Wireless and mobile
+ Network security and privacy
+ Topology
+ Overlays, e.g., P2P, CDNs
+ Visualization
+ Social networks
+ Data centers and cloud computing
+ Virtualization, e.g., SDN, NFV
+ Energy
+ IoT, e.g., SCADA, ICS, and embedded systems
Although PAM traditionally attracts early stage contributions, works
that are a reappraisal or independent validation of previous results, or
which enhance the reproducibility of network measurement research, for
instance by publishing new datasets on an existing topic, are explicitly
included in PAM’s scope.
***Important Dates***
+ Paper Registration: 10th October 2018, 8:59:59pm EDT
+ Paper Submission: 17th October 2018, 8:59:59pm EDT
+ Notification: 10th December 2018
+ Camera-ready Due: 15th January 2019
***Submission Guidelines***
Authors should only submit original work that has not been published
before and is not under submission to any other venue. All submission
must satisfy the following requirements:
+ Follow Springer LNCS format (see
https://www.springer.com/us/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu…)
+ Up to 12 pages for technical content (+ up to 5 pages for appendices
and references)
* Note that reviewers are not required to read appendices.
Everything needed to evaluate the paper should appear in the first 12 pages.
+ NEW: Anonymization; reviewing will be double-blind (note the change
from prior years)
* Do not include names or affiliations of authors in the submission.
* Refer to your prior work in the third person.
* Make a best effort to anonymize system names that would give you away.
* If you have any concerns about how to anonymize your paper while
maintaining its integrity, contact the PC chairs.
+ Submit via HotCRP: https://pam19.ccs.neu.edu
***Ethical Considerations***
Following the standard set by the Internet Measurement Conference (from
which we base this section), papers describing experiments with users or
sensitive user data (e.g., network traffic, passwords, social network
information) must follow basic precepts of ethical research and
subscribe to community norms. These include: respect for privacy, secure
storage of sensitive data, voluntary and informed consent if users are
placed at risk, avoiding deceptive practices when not essential,
beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual or to society
while minimizing harm to the individual), and risk mitigation. When
appropriate, authors are encouraged to include a subsection describing
these issues. Authors may want to consult the Menlo Report
(http://www.caida.org/publications/papers/2012/menlo_report_actual_formatted/)
for further information on ethical principles and the Allman/Paxson IMC
07 paper (https://conferences.sigcomm.org/imc/2007/papers/imc80.pdf) for
guidance on ethical data sharing.
Note that submitting research for approval by each author’s
institutional ethics review body is necessary, but not sufficient – in
cases where the PC has concerns about the ethics of the work in a
submission, the PC will consider the ethical soundness and justification
of any paper, just as it does its technical soundness. Authors unsure
about ethical issues are welcome to contact the program committee
co-chairs at
<pam2019-pcchairs(a)niclabs.cl<mailto:pam2019-pcchairs@niclabs.cl>>.
***Awards***
There will be two awards for papers of exceptional merit. The Best Paper
award will recognize the paper that is deemed by the committee to have
the highest merit of all the submissions. The Best Dataset Award will be
given to the best paper that makes datasets and corresponding code
available to the public by the time the camera-ready is submitted. These
artifacts must be sufficiently documented such that any researcher can
use them to repeat the results described in the paper, and they must be
placed in a sufficiently long-lived archival repository (e.g., Github,
Bitbucket, DatCat, or CRAWDAD).
***Poster Session***
As in previous years, PAM will include a poster session featuring
peer-reviewed submissions.
Stay tuned for further details and the separate call for posters.
