Papers whose contributions overlap with an earlier published paper will be considered only if (1) the previous paper was published (not just accepted) at a workshop at least 6 months before our submission date and (2) it adds significant new contributions over the previous paper. Authors uncertain whether their submission meets these guidelines should contact the program chairs. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be considered. Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential. MobiSys will use a double-blind review policy during the initial paper review. Authors are instructed to not include their names, affiliations and contact information on the manuscript they submit for review. Authors should also anonymize the content of their paper to hide their identity. Reviewers will not know the identity of the authors during the initial phase of the review process, however, anonymity will expire after the majority of the reviews have been submitted and preliminary outcomes decided. The identities of the authors will be revealed to the reviewers toward the end of the review process. Submissions which are not properly anonymized will be rejected without being reviewed. Submissions must be in PDF. We will not accept papers in any other format. Submissions must use a 10pt font (or larger) and be correctly formatted for printing on Letter-sized (8.5" by 11") paper. Paper text blocks must follow ACM guidelines: double-column, with each column 9.25" by 3.33", 0.33" space between columns and single-spaced. New applications, such as virtual reality and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of resources and services brought by cloud computing. However, the delay-sensitive applications face the problem of large latency, especially when several smart devices and objects are getting involved in human’s life such as the case of smart cities or Internet of Things. Therefore, cloud computing is unable to meet the requirements of low latency, location awareness, and mobility support. To solve this problem, researchers have introduced a trusted and dependable solution through the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC) to put the services and resources of the cloud closer to users, which facilitates the leveraging of available services and resources in the edge networks. By this, we are moving from the core (cloud data centers) to the edge of the network closer to the users. FMEC dependability is based on providing user centric service. The purpose of Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the heavy real-time applications at the network edge directly using the billions of connected mobile devices. Several features enable the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing to be a perfect paradigm to the aforementioned purpose, which are the dense geographical deployment of servers, supporting mobility and the closeness to users. As in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing, which are the administrative policies and security concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure computation, network security, data privacy, usage privacy, location privacy, etc). FMEC 2020 conference aims to investigate the opportunities and requirements for Mobile Edge Computing dominance. In addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigating Mobile Edge Computing challenges. That is, the objective of FMEC 2020 is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange new ideas, novel results and experience on all aspects of Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC). With personal financial and medical information and job related data being processed on smartphones and related mobile systems and networks, it is critically important that the development and advancement of secure mobile operating systems, secure mobile applications, secure smartphone devices and cellular networks keep up with the ever‐ growing smartphone usage. For this reason, this research area has been a very important sector in the network and telecommunication industry and a focus of funded research projects in many research institutes. The scope of MobiSec 2020 encompasses the security, privacy, and digital forensics of mobile systems and networks, including but not limited to Android, iOS and Windows Mobile operating systems, smartphones and applications for these platforms and devices, as well as cellular networks. However, it remains essential that all these devices work in a coherent manner to perform a collective action. This makes the task of resource provisioning extremely important in such a paradigm. The end-user level in IoT mostly comprise of the low computation and communication powered devices. An improper utilization of the available resources in such a scenario burdens the complete system and degrades the quality of service. In such a scenario, the use of cloud computing techniques can help to manage the resources effectively. More so, with the emergence of relatively newer cloud-based technologies such as edge and fog computing, resource management in the IoT has become far more effective. These technologies bring the computation and communication capabilities closer to the IoT devices where some of the services can be offloaded to the edge devices. These devices are called IoT edge devices and they provide a unique opportunity to tackle some of the existing and pertinent issues for resource management in IoT paradigms; yet at the same time, they face their own set of challenges. However, the use of IoT edge devices in a traditional IoT paradigm results in better utilization of the available resources as well as improving the overall quality of service. Keeping this in mind, this special issue will address the resource management in IoT edge devices with the focus on various challenges faced, and potential techniques and solutions to address such challenges by leveraging IoT edge devices. The researchers, both at the academic and industrial level, working on resource management in IoT edge devices can share their latest results to create wider awareness about their schemes. INTRODUCTION The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is incorporating “things” from the physical world into the Internet environment to enhance the monitoring and intelligent control of physical, digital and social systems. Such things include smart infrastructures like power grids with sensing and actuation capabilities, mobile platforms like smart phones and vehicles, and consumer electronics and appliances such as refrigerators and healthcare devices. In conventional cloud-centric IoT applications, the observational streams from these things at the edge of the network are extracted, accumulated and processed centrally at public/private clouds, and the responses are communicated back to the things, leading to significant latency and bandwidth costs. To meet the ever-increasing demand for computing resources from distributed applications in the wide area network, academics and industry experts are advocating the use of micro data centers to supplement large cloud data centers. These micro data centers, also called fog resources, are located at the edge of the network, closer to a user in the spatial and/or network topology than cloud data centers. Further, edge devices such as smart phones and gateways themselves have non-trivial compute capacity and are even closer to the user. As a result, it is possible to utilize both the edge and fog resources to off-load computation that would traditionally have been carried out on the cloud. The "Fog/Edge computing paradigm" is expected to improve the agility of service deployments, make use of opportunistic and cheap computing, and leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities between these resources. Numerous challenges arise when using fog and edge computing infrastructure, which requires the re-examination of operating systems, virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric management. Extensions to current programming and storage models are required and new abstractions that will allow developers to design novel applications that can benefit from massively distributed and data-driven systems need to be developed. Addressing security, privacy and trust of the edge and fog resources is of paramount importance while managing the resources and context for mobile, transient and hardware constrained resources. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous vehicles and machine/deep learning need to be supported over such platforms. CALL FOR PAPERS The conference seeks to attract high-quality contributions covering both theory and practice over system software and domain-specific applications related to Edge, Fog and Cloud computing. Papers submitted to either rounds will be evaluated by the same program committee using the same evaluation criteria. Papers not accepted in the Early Submission round may resubmit a revised version to the Regular submission round provided significant changes have been made to address the reviewer comments. In such cases, a 2-page rebuttal summarizing the changes made must be included in the appendix (excluded from the page limit), and the title of the paper be prefixed with "Revision:". We invite authors to submit original manuscripts that have neither been published elsewhere nor are under review at a different venue.
