GENERAL DESCRIPTION
----------------------------------------------------------
Wireless Sensor, Robot and UAV networks are characterized by the
coordination and mobility of nodes that are able to accomplish
distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by the control and
mobility of actors, the networking process and applications embrace a
whole new set of possibilities. Specialized networked systems, made of
intelligent devices (such as robots and UAVs), may deploy, repair and
relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes and fix network
partition to ensure data communication, change network topology to shape
routing patterns and balance energy consumption, and to respond to
reported events in a timely and effective manner. Also, they might be
able to integrate within existing and upcoming mobile infrastructures
(e.g. the 5G), by enabling the sensing operations on complex and dynamic
scenarios, and to process the data on the edge or to offload them toward
existing cloud services. The benefits are limited only by imagination.

Submission Deadline: 30 November 2019
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Communication
and Fog/Edge Computing Towards Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICVs).
With rapid economic development, the number of vehicles on the road has
grown dramatically, which introduces an array of traffic-related issues,
such as traffic congestion and driving safety. Intelligent connected
vehicles (ICVs) can provide a safer and greener transportation system,
which has been envisioned as an effective measure to resolve traffic
problems. ICVs are expected to run many emerging smart applications
(e.g., autonomous driving, safety early warning, natural language
processing, etc.) to assist both the drivers and passengers in vehicular
environments. These kinds of applications typically require significant
computing power to perform computation-intensive and latency-sensitive
tasks generated by the vehicle sensors for low-latency response.
However, the limited computation capacity of the on-board computer makes
it difficult to satisfy the computation requirements of
quality-of-experience (QoE)-demanding applications. To tackle this
challenge, fog/edge computing are proposed as innovative computing
paradigms to extend computing capacity to the network edge in order to
meet the requirements. Fog/edge computing is expected to not only
maximize the computation capability and alleviate the greenhouse effect,
but also achieve sustainable operation by pushing rich computing and
storage resources to the edge of the network.
The limited computation capacity of the on-board computer brings about
an unprecedented challenge for the future development of ICVs. Fog/edge
computing provides cloud computing capacity in close proximity to
vehicles. Vehicles can migrate the computing to the edge of the network
via vehicle to everything (V2X) communication. Processing can be
completed at road-side unit (RSU) at the side of the network. The
advancement of communication technologies and edge computing, such as
Fifth-generation (5G), Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network
Function Virtualization (NFV), mobile edge/fog computing and so on,
makes it possible to enhance computational capabilities, ensure
near-real-time responses and realize communication requirements with
ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability. The Special Section in
IEEE Access aims to provide the latest research findings and solutions,
in terms of communication and edge computing for ICVs.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• New architecture and framework establishment based on fog/edge
computing for ICVs
• Advanced vehicular networks technologies, such as 5G vehicular
networks, LTE-V and so on
• Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications for ICVs
• Resource allocation and management based on fog/edge computing for ICVs
• Machine learning, deep learning for intelligent management and control
• Joint analysis of communication and computing to improve
performance in vehicular networks
• Cross-layer optimization for fog/edge computing
• Mobility modeling and management for ICVs
• SDN and NFV technologies for vehicular networks
• Security and privacy challenges
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.

IEEE ACCESS special issue on "Cloud - Fog - Edge Computing in
Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS)"
https://ieeeaccess.ieee.org/special-sections/cloud-fog-edge-computing-in-cy…
Submission Deadline: 01 February 2020
====================================================================================
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Cloud – Fog –
Edge Computing in Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS).
Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS) integrates the cyber, physical and
social spaces together. One of the ultimate goals of
cyber-physical-social systems (CPSS) is to make our lives more
convenient and intelligent by providing prospective and personalized
services for users. To achieve this goal, a wide range of data in CPSS
are employed as the starting point for research, since the data contains
the user’s historical behavior trajectory and the user’s demand
preference. Generated and collected from social and physical spaces and
integrated in the cyber space, CPSS data are complex and heterogeneous,
recording all aspects of users’ lives in the forms of image, audio,
video and text. Generally, the collected or generated data in CPSS
satisfies 4Vs (volume, variety, velocity, and veracity) of big data.
Thus, how to deal with CPSS big data efficiently is the key to provision
services for users.
>From another perspective, CPSS big data are specified as the global
historical data and the local real-time data. Cloud computing, as a
powerful paradigm for implementing the data-intensive applications, has
an irreplaceable role in processing global historical data. On the other
hand, with the increasing computing capacity and communication
capabilities of mobile terminal devices, fog-edge computing, as an
important and effective supplement of cloud computing, has been widely
used to process the local real-time data. Therefore, how to
systematically and efficiently process the CPSS big data (including both
the global historical data and the local real-time data) in CPSS has
become the key for providing services in CPSS.
This Special Section in IEEE Access aims to share and discuss recent
advances and future trends of Cloud-Fog-Edge Computing in CPSS, and to
bring academic researchers and industry developers together. Articles on
practical as well as on theoretical topics and problems about proximity
services are invited.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
•Cloud computing for big data processing in CPSS
•Big data management framework for CPSS in cloud-fog-edge environment
•Security and privacy issues for CPSS in fog/edge computing
•Computation offloading for edge computing in CPSS
•Dynamic resource provisioning for CPSS in cloud-fog-edge computing
•CPSS big data mining in cloud-fog-edge computing
•Service composition for CPSS in cloud-fog-edge computing
•Big data applications in CPSS
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.

by 2020. The huge demand for high quality life makes the administrator and
the governments to put carefully planning in cities in a smarter way. As a
premier agent for stimulating a quality of life compatible with a resource
efficient economy, the smart city phenomenon has recently seized the
imagination of the academia and the industry significantly. As the Internet
of things (IoT) and Tactile Internet are predictable to be a primary
driving force for future cities, advanced communication methods will play a
crucial role in assisting real-time data acquisition and utilization from
distributed sensors. However, smart cities will also have to function
within the limitations of the national economy and available resources.
Consequently, the challenges in the realization of smart cities are many
and varied. In general, low energy consumption, constrained bandwidth,
latency and budgetary limitations are predominant. In order to overcome
these hurdles, it is essential that new ideas and theories for optimizing
the network in energy, spectral, latency and monetary terms are presented
to achieve a robust environmental monitoring and sustainable transportation
network, among other provisions. This led the researchers to pave the way
for future wireless networks under the umbrella of 5G communications as
well. This is an amalgamation of a multitude of technologies ranging from
device-level algorithms such as low power transmissions to system-level
architectures such as software-defined networking (SDN), the challenges
posed by each of these techniques are critical. The smart city idea is also
known to work at the intersection of various techniques such as
device-to-device (D2D) communications, massive multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO), millimeter wave (mmWave) communications,
full-duplex transmissions and Internet of Things (IoT) to name a few.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together a group of experts with an
interest in emerging smart cities related areas. The recent advancements in
smart cities has boosted the development of a new generation of
highly-efficient mobile networks. After the successful editions of this
workshop in renowned venues, this workshop will highlight the recent

4TH IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FOG AND EDGE COMPUTING (ICFEC 2020)
11-14 May, 2020, Melbourne, Australia
In conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2020

================================================================
We are delighted to invite you to Melbourne, Australia for the 4th IEEE
International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing. The Conference will
be held as part of and in conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid, 2020, which
is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and ACM.
INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is incorporating “things” from the
physical world into the Internet environment to enhance the monitoring
and intelligent control of physical, digital and social systems. Such
things include smart infrastructures like power grids with sensing and
actuation capabilities, mobile platforms like smart phones and vehicles,
and consumer electronics and appliances such as refrigerators and
healthcare devices. In conventional cloud-centric IoT applications, the
observational streams from these things at the edge of the network are
extracted, accumulated and processed centrally at public/private clouds,
and the responses are communicated back to the things, leading to
significant latency and bandwidth costs.
To meet the ever-increasing demand for computing resources from
distributed applications in the wide area network, academics and
industry experts are advocating the use of micro data centers to
supplement large cloud data centers. These micro data centers, also
called fog resources, are located at the edge of the network, closer to
a user in the spatial and/or network topology than cloud data centers.
Further, edge devices such as smart phones and gateways themselves have
non-trivial compute capacity and are even closer to the user. As a
result, it is possible to utilize both the edge and fog resources to
off-load computation that would traditionally have been carried out on
the cloud.
The "Fog/Edge computing paradigm" is expected to improve the agility of
service deployments, make use of opportunistic and cheap computing, and
leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities between these
resources. Numerous challenges arise when using fog and edge computing
infrastructure, which requires the re-examination of operating systems,
virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric
management. Extensions to current programming and storage models are
required and new abstractions that will allow developers to design novel
applications that can benefit from massively distributed and
data-driven systems need to be developed. Addressing security, privacy
and trust of the edge and fog resources is of paramount importance while
managing the resources and context for mobile, transient and hardware
constrained resources. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous vehicles
and machine/deep learning need to be supported over such platforms.
