International Conference on Networked Systems 2021
13.-16. September 2021 - Lübeck, Germany
https://netsys2021.org
Second Call for Extended Abstracts and Hot Topic Papers
-------------------------------------------------------
The conference on Networked Systems (NetSys 2021) is a traditional biennial
event that provides an international forum for engineers and scientists in
academia, industry, and government to present and discuss recent
innovations in the realm of networked systems.
NetSys'21 is again a joint event organized by GI KuVS (GI, Communication
and Distributed Systems) and VDE ITG (VDE, Information Technical Society)
and additionally supported by IFIP TC6. The NetSys21 technical program
focusses on original contributions in the area of networking and
distributed systems and also features invited presentations on hot topics
in networking and distributed systems, an industry session, separate
workshops, tutorials, posters, demos, an early work track, and a PhD forum.
Also included is the annual 1-day ITG expert symposium “Future of
Networking” (Zukunft der Netze, ZdN) with invited technical presentations
on advanced topics in networking. The German GI FG on Operating Systems
also plans to hold its fall workshop in combination with NetSys'21 in
Lübeck.
NetSys'21 solicits extended abstracts presenting original and novel
research and ideas as well as hot topic papers, i.e. presentations of
papers that have already been accepted or published at other conferences or
journals in the field during the last two years. The NetSys'21 TPC will
select extended abstract papers for presentation and inclusion in the
NetSys'21 proceedings to be published open access via the journal
Electronic Communications of the EASST (ECEASST) (
https://journal.ub.tu-berlin.de/eceasst).
Hot topic presentations shall highlight recent and highly significant
results in networked and distributed systems to be presented in a highly
innovative, thought-provoking and stimulating format - containing, e.g.,
new research topics, directions, and methods. This includes recent papers
which appeared (or are to appear) in top journals (such as TON or CCR) or
top conferences (such as SIGCOMM, IMC, MobiCom, CoNEXT, INFOCOM, ICDCS)
that are of high interest for the NetSys community.
Extended abstracts and hot topic papers, can include, but are not limited
to the following topics:
* Network architectures and protocols
* Transport- and application-layer protocols
* Software-defined networking, network function virtualization, and further
network softwarization
* Mobile, ad-hoc, opportunistic, vehicular, and sensor networks
* Novel concepts for tactile and low-latency communication
* Pertinent middleware architectures, platforms, and programming support
for networked systems
* Internet of Things (IoT)
* Cloud computing, mobile cloud computing, fog and edge computing
* Network security and privacy
* Information-centric networking, content distribution and retrieval, and

NetSys and the COVID-19 pandemic
--------------------------------
Reallistically, it is currently (i.e. mid-April 2021) impossible to predict
in which format NetSys 2021 can take place in September. We aim at a
face-to-face event which seems still possible due to Lübeck’s location in
the low incidence area of Schleswig-Holstein and the anticipated massive
increase in vaccination until September. However, we are also preparing a
hybrid backup solution, even though this would only substitute a rather
limited subset of an event like NetSys - where personal meetings play a
very important role. Fortunately, we are still in the situation of not
having to make a final decision on the conference format at the moment. As
soon as this becomes clearer, we will inform you via all conceivable
channels!

CALL FOR PAPERS
2021 ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on Network-Application Integration (NAI'21)
August 23 or 27, 2021
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2021/workshop-nai.html
-----------------------------------------------------
The Internet was designed and launched 50 years ago to satisfy yet
unforeseen applications, and the Internet's adaptation and scalability have
been proved remarkably successful over the years. However, the
general-purpose and best-effort model of the Internet continues to be
challenged with an ever-growing demand for more complex applications with
stricter application-specific requirements. How can we deliver 4k videos to
everybody? How can we ensure ultra-low latency for applications such as
self-driving cars and cloud gaming? How do applications adapt when the
underlying infrastructure cannot provide the services such as reliability
or security?
The Second ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on Network-Application Integration/CoDesign
(NAI) seeks to build on the success of the first workshop (
https://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2020/workshop-nai.html) and
continue to foster discussions on this topic. We invite researchers from
academia and industry as well as engineers to explore novel ideas and
future directions of NAI. Topics of Interest include, but are not limited
to:
- Network abstraction models (e.g., resource, state)
- Exposure of network information and control interfaces
- Data collection (e.g., measurement) for network abstraction
- Coordination of information and decisions across multiple domains
(regions and technology layers)
- Data processing techniques to generate network abstraction (e.g., low
level, filtering)
- Data distribution techniques (i.e., how, when and where to make data
available for processing/analysis) for real-time network information
exposure
- Validation of network abstractions (e.g., conforming to model)
- Privacy analysis of exposing network and application information
- Economical/game-theoretical analysis of network information/service
exposure
- Stability design and analysis of application-network control loop
- Optimality design and analysis of application-network control loop
- Condition management and conflict resolution in complex closed-loop
systems
- Control with multiple dimensional constraints (privacy, policy, beyond
networking)
- Co-design for specialized apps (e.g., video, ML, IoT)
- Integrating learning and big data analytics (e.g., wide area, application
and user)
- Experience and deployment of application-network co-design and integration
- Application adaptation to network information/service models
Submission Instructions:
Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and not under consideration
at another conference or journal. Submitted papers must be at most six (6)
pages long, including all figures, tables, references, and appendices in
two-column 10pt ACM format. We also encourage industrial demos for which a
two-page extended abstract must be submitted in the same format as the
workshop papers. Papers and extended abstracts must include author names
and affiliations for single-blind peer reviewing by the PC. Authors of
accepted submissions are expected to present and discuss their work at the
workshop. Please submit your paper via https://nai21.hotcrp.com.

*Special Track in User Engagement in IoT Systems - ACM GoodIT 2021*
Website: https://sites.google.com/view/user-engagement-in-iot-systems
Our current lives are entangled with the Internet of Things and Pervasive
applications, which provide a multitude of services that enrich and
facilitate human lives. Among different platforms and systems, many of them
also rely on user collaboration to provide data, services, and to improve
the systems also for other users. Most popular are Crowdsensing systems, in
which users measurements' are leveraged to enlarge the data available for
the platform. More recently also other forms of collaboration among users
and the platform are available, such as services made by user thanks to
visual programming languages, or user reviewing issues.
This openness of the system has a twofold benefit (i) it allows the
platform to be more fitted to the user needs and desired services, and (ii)
it allows the users to be part of the platform design, so being able to
understand how it works, gaining trust in it and also feel more rewarded in
participating.
This Special Track solicits unpublished high quality paper related (but not
limited to):
-
Mobile Crowdsensing
-
User participation in Mobile Crowdsensing
-
Rewarding mechanism in Mobile Crowdsensing
-
User aided design of Mobile Crowdsensing
-

OVERVIEW
========
In recent years, we have seen fast development of wireless communications,
networking, and cloud computing: 4G, 5G and multiaccess networks greatly
enhance the quality of service (QoS) of wireless access networks; software-
defined networking, network function virtualization, and
information-centric networking largely reduce the cost of network service
providers and improve the quality of experience (QoE) of end-users; the
development of mobile devices and mobile cloud computing lead to explosive
deployment of mobile services and applications; the recent development of
advanced algorithms such as Deep Learning has shown great potential in
resource allocation and service orchestration. Deep integration of the
above technologies provides a large number of opportunities for realizing
the future mobile computing systems. On the other hand, to realize an
efficient and sustainable ecosystem, many challenges exist. The challenges
lie in a wide range, including devices technologies, communications and
networking technologies, cloud and edge computing technologies, energy
harvesting technologies, and incentive and marketing mechanisms. Among the
above-mentioned research directions, MONAMI 2021 puts special focus on
