ICCCN 2009 - 18th International Conference on
Computer Communications and Networks
Preliminary Call for Papers
August 2-6, 2009 -- San Francisco, CA
http://icccn.org/icccn09/
ICCCN is one of the leading international conferences for presenting
novel ideas and fundamental advances in the fields of computer
communications and networks. ICCCN serves to foster communication
among researchers and practitioners with a common interest in improving
communications and networking through scientific and technological
innovation.
Scope:
The primary focus of the conference is on new and original research
results in the areas of design, implementation, and applications of
computer communications and networks. Authors are invited to submit
papers that present original research to one of the following tracks:
* Track on Emerging Wireless Technologies and Platforms (EWTP)
* Track on Internet Services, Systems and Applications (ISSA)
* Track on Multimedia and QoS (MQoS)
* Track on Network Architecture and Protocols (NAP)
* Track on Network Algorithms and Performance Evaluation (NAPE)
* Track on Network Security and Privacy (NSP)
* Track on Optical Networking (ON)
* Track on Peer-to-peer Networking (P2PN)
* Track on Pervasive Computing and Grid Networking (PCGN)
* Track on Wireless Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks (WASN)
* Track on Wireless Communication and Signal Processing (WCSP)
Instructions for Authors:
Submitted manuscripts must be formatted in standard IEEE camera-ready
format (double-column, 10-pt font) and must be submitted via EDAS
(http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=6903&) as PDF files (formatted for
letter (8.5x11-inch) paper). The manuscripts should be no longer than
6 pages. Up to two additional pages are permitted if the authors are
willing to pay an over-length charge at the time of publication
(manuscripts may not exceed 8 pages). Submitted papers may not have
been previously published in or be under consideration for publication
in another journal or conference. The Program Committee reserves the
right to not review papers that either exceed the length specification
or have been submitted or published elsewhere. Submissions must include
a title, abstract, keywords, author(s) and affiliation(s), e-mail
address(es), fax/phone number(s), and postal address(es). Please
indicate the corresponding author.
Note: A new requirement for this yearÂ’s conference is that a paper
abstract must be registered on EDAS by the deadline indicated below.
Review and Publication of Manuscripts:
All submitted papers will be reviewed the respective track TPC and
judged on originality, technical correctness, relevance, and quality

to be held in conjunction with
SIMUTools 2009.
CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of wireless networks, realistic models
and credible simulation scenarios are crucial. Recently, in the area of wireless
networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility, traffic, and
signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to provide
more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and
then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We solicit
papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various
wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers on trace
measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless networks are
also welcome.
The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research interests and
activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at
increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers working in
this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related, theoretical, and
work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modelling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling
* Combined mobility and traffic modelling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modelling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modelling on performance
Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for
presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 8 camera-ready pages in ACM
conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or journal.

[Tccc] Deadline Extension - IEEE Network- SI on Multi-Hop Cognitive Networks
by Matteo Cesana 15 Nov '08
by Matteo Cesana 15 Nov '08
15 Nov '08
Due to numerous requests the deadline of the following IEEE Network special
issue has been extended to December, 2
Our apologies in case of multiple receptions
IEEE Network Special Issue on
Networking over Multi-Hop Cognitive Networks
Schedule for Submission
New Paper Submission Deadline: November 15, 2008
December 2, 2008
Feedback to Authors: February, 15
2009
Publication of the Special Issue: Second Half of
2009
Background
In recent years, the exponential growth of unlicensed band usage has
prompted possible wireless spectrum shortage. Moreover, today's wireless
networks are characterized by fixed spectrum assignment policies, which
often lead to wasting large spectrum portions due to sporadic utilization of
the licensed users (according to FCC, only 15% to 85% of the licensed
spectrum is utilized on the average). This situation has motivated and
pushed forward the development of novel low-power wireless Cognitive Radio
transceivers with the capability of changing their transmitter parameters
(operating spectrum, modulation, transmission power and communication
technology) based on interaction with the surrounding environment. Cognitive
Radio Networks (CRNs) based on nodes equipped with cognitive transceivers
have consequently emerged as viable architectural solutions to solve current
wireless network problems resulting from the limited available spectrum and
the inefficiency in the spectrum usage by exploiting the existing wireless
spectrum opportunistically.
Scope and Contributions
This special issue aims to consolidate and disseminate the latest
developments and advances in the emerging area of Multi-hop CRNs, which is
defined as a collection of cognitive transceiver-equipped nodes forming a
multi-hop communication network. The main focus of this special issue is on
networking aspects of multi-hop CRNs where the information needs to be
relayed over multiple wireless links. Multi-hop CRNs responsibility is not
only limited to the discovery and allocation of wireless resources while
avoiding service disruption for primary users. Additional tasks must be
accomplished to sustain end-to-end communication, including identification
of sets of relay nodes, ensuring that required bandwidth is available over
all necessary links, and regulating resource sharing among all flows in the
network. Most importantly, these goals must be achieved while coping with
negative effects of frequent link outages due to primary user access.
Preferably, the multi-hop CRN must also ensure that flow requirements, such
as bandwidth, delay, and jitter bounds, are met.
This special issue provides opportunities for the research community, the
standardization bodies, and the industry to showcase the-state-of-the-art of
the research on networking aspects of Multi-hop CRNs, implementation
studies, and feasibility analyses. Moreover, since the success of CRN also
depends on spectrum regulatory aspect, we also solicit critical
contributions addressing the problem of managing the competition in spectrum
access under regulated, partially regulated or unregulated Multi-hop CRN
architectures.
While the nature of the multi-hop CRNs necessitates high levels of
interaction and dependency between the physical layer and protocols and
solutions at MAC layer and above, the main focus of this special issue is
the networking aspects of multi-hop CRNs. Therefore, the design of cognitive
transceivers and hardware, signal processing techniques, modulation and
coding methods, physical layer channel models, as well as networking issues
primarily concerning single-hop CRNs fall outside the scope of the special
issue.
In addition to original research articles, we also solicit survey and
position articles in the area of networking aspects of multi-hop CRNs. These
topics include, but are not limited to:
o Medium access control for multi-hop CRNs
o Routing solutions for multi-hop CRNs
o Real-time communication protocols for multi-hop CRNs
o Cross-layer design of communication protocols for multi-hop CRNs
o Centralized and distributed dynamic spectrum management and spectrum
leasing
o Performance evaluation and modeling of multi-hop CRNs
o Regulatory Aspects and CRN Architectures
Schedule for Submission

Authors must follow the IEEE Network Magazine guidelines regarding the
manuscript and its format. For details, please refer to the "Author
Guidelines" at the IEEE Network Magazine Web site at
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/ntwrk/authors.html. The manuscripts must be

Call for Book Chapter
Title: Delay Tolerant Networks: Protocols and Applications
(to be published by <http://www.taylorandfrancisgroup.com/> Auerbach
Publications, CRC Press, Taylor&Francis Group)
Introduction
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) arises primarily as a result of various forms
of host and router mobility, but may also come into being as a result of
disconnection due to power management or interference. Examples of such
networks include:
* Terrestrial Mobile Networks: In many cases, these networks may
become un-expectedly partitioned due to node mobility or RF interference. In
other cases, the network may never have an end to end path and may be
expected to be partitioned in a periodic and predictable manner.
* Exotic Media Networks: Exotic communication media includes
near-Earth satel-lite communications, very long-distance radio links (e.g.
deep space RF communications with light propagation delays in the seconds or
minutes), communication using acoustic modulation in air or water, and some
free-space optical communications. These systems may be subject to high
latencies with predictable interruption (e.g. due to planetary dy-namics or
the passing of a scheduled ship), may suffer outage due to environmental
conditions (e.g. weather), or may provide a predictably available
store-and-forward network service that is only occasionally available (e.g.
low-earth orbiting satellites that "pass" by one or more times each day).
* Ad-Hoc and Sensor Networks: These networks are frequently
characterized by extremely limited end-node power, memory, and CPU
capability.
Recommended Topics (not limited to)
* Routing, broadcast, multicast

* Self-x properties, i.e. self-organization, self-management,
self-healing and self-protection

First International Workshop on Autonomic Wireless Networking (AWN 2009)
http://www7.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~dressler/awn09/
Co-located with
5th International Wireless Communications and
Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC 2009)
June 21-24, 2009, Leipzig, Germany
IWCMC requested IEEE/ACM technical co-sponsorship (pending)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
Aims and Scope
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and
technologists to present new ideas and contributions in the domain of
wireless networking employed to support the needs of future wireless
communication systems. To deal with the increasing complexity of large-
scale wireless networking systems, computers and applications must learn
to manage themselves in accordance with high-level guidance from humans
- a vision that has been referred to as autonomic computing.
Quality, reliability, security and robustness are specific demands to be
provided by future autonomic wireless networks. Cognitive radio has
emerged as a promising technology for maximizing the utilization of the
limited radio bandwidth while accommodating the increasing amount of
services and applications in the wireless networks. Similarly, cross-
layer techniques exploit locally available information for providing
more robust and scalable wireless communication systems.
The purpose of the First International Workshop on Autonomic Wireless
Networking is to bring together researchers and practitioners addressing
all aspects of self-organization, adaptive management of available
resources, cooperation and detection of selfishness in wireless
networks. In doing so, we hope to further build and nurture a community
that can work together to realize the vision of large-scale autonomic
wireless networks.
Papers are solicited in the broad range of wireless networking with
focus on autonomic communication. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
- Smart antenna technologies
- Cognitive and software defined radio
- Cooperative communications
- Incentive compatible and cooperative behavior
- Self-organization
- Cross-layer design and optimization
- Medium access control
- Quality of service
- Radio resource management
- Selfishness detection
- Jamming
- Security and privacy
- Modeling and simulation
- Testbeds and experimental platforms
