Med-Hoc-Net 2004
================
The Third Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop
June 27-30, 2004, Bodrum, Turkey
http://www.medhoc04.diit.unict.it/
Call for Papers
---------------
Ad hoc network applications are emerging continuously imposing their own
stringent constraints which cannot be fulfilled by generic approaches and
thus spur new research efforts. The aim of Med-Hoc-Net 2004 is to serve as
a platform for researchers and visionaries from academia, research labs,
and industry from all over the globe to share their ideas, views, results,
and experiences in the field of ad-hoc networking and communications.
Med-Hoc-Net 2004 will include presentations of theoretical and
experimental achievements, innovative ad-hoc systems, prototyping efforts,
case studies, and advancements in technology directly affecting ad-hoc
networking and communications infrastructures.
After Sardinia (Italy) and Mahdia (Tunisia), this year the workshop will
take place in another beautiful spot on the Mediterranean Sea: Bodrum
(Turkey) where you will find wonderful nature and amazing historical sites
close to hand. Bodrum is easy to reach via frequent flight connections
from Istanbul.
Topics of Interest:

to appear in the
JOURNAL OF PARALLEL AND DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING
http://www.ipm.ac.ir/IPM/news/ViewNewsInfo.jsp?NTID=116
SCOPE:
======
The need for high computation power and advances in VLSI and communications
technology has led to the rapid development of cluster- and grid- super-
computers. Besides the technological advances, parallelism in all level of
computation (thread, instruction, task, and program) has been exploited in
such high performance network-based computing systems. Almost all of such
systems have their performance mainly dependent to the employed
interconnection networks for inter-node communication. Many factors affect
the efficiency and usabilityof such networks, including the topology, the
switching method, the routing mechanism, and the traffic load shape. This
special issue will cover various topics on networks in high performance
computing systems.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Switching techniques
- Routing algorithms: unicast, multicast, broadcast, gossip,
fault-tolerant, ...
- Parallel and distributed algorithms and applications
- Resource placement, scheduling, and load balancing
- Topological properties, embedding, and VLSI layout of networks
- Novel network topologies
- Optical/Opto-electronic networks for high-performance system
- Mobile distributed systems
- Integrated design tool environments
- Innovative parallel simulation techniques and tools
- Mathematical performance modelling of network-based systems
- Performance analysis and evaluation
- Workload characterization and traffic modelling
- Performance-directed design of networks
- The impact of implementation technology on the design interconnection
networks
- Fault-tolerant architectures
- Networks in DSM systems
- Cache-memory support
- I/O Support
- Networks in SIMD and array processors
- Networks in pipelined and vector architectures
- Case studies studying networks in successful machines
- Surveys on different issues in the design, implementation and simulation
of high-performance computing systems

Special Issue of the Journal of Computer Communications
on Sensor Networks
Guest Editors:
Guoliang Xue (Arizona State University, USA)
Hossam Hassanein (Queens University, Canada)
PUBLICATION: Fall 2004
Recent advances in micro-electro-mechanical systems technology and wireless
communications have enabled the development of low-cost low-power sensors.
These tiny sensor nodes, which can perform sensing, simple computation, and
communication in short distances, leverage the idea of sensor networks in
which the number of nodes can be a few orders of magnitude higher than the
number of nodes in a traditional ad hoc network. Applications of sensor
networks include military applications, environmental applications, health
applications, home applications, and many other commercial applications.
This special issue of Computer Communications seeks contributions describing
recent advances in all areas of sensor networks. Papers should describe
original and previously unpublished, and not currently under review by
another conference, workshop or journal. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
* Architectures and protocols
* Applications
* Energy management
* Low-energy energy routing, including multicasting and broadcasting
* Survivable routing
* Data gathering
* Data fusion
* Positioning and tracking techniques
* Reachability
* Reliability and fault tolerance
* Management protocols
* Query and data dissemination
* Network security
* Performance evaluation
* Scalability
* Self-organization
* Operating system for sensor networks

to provide and fine tune a number of middleware technologies allowing cluster
and grid users to access large resources in order to solve the most
challenging
computational problems. This sepcial session on Resource Management and
Scheduling Techniques for Cluster and Grid Computing Systems will serve as a
forum to present current and future work as well as to exchange research ideas
by researchers, developers, practitioners, and users in cluster and grid
computing. We are soliciting original high quality research papers on topics of
interest that include but are not limited to:
*Resource Management and Scheduling

*LAST* Call for Papers
IEEE Network Magazine
Special Issue on
'AD HOC NETWORKING: DATA COMMUNICATIONS & TOPOLOGY CONTROL'
http://www.lifl.fr/RD2P/download/net-adhoc-cfp-final.pdf
IEEE Network seeks articles for a special issue on Ad Hoc
Networking: Data Communications and Topology Control, to appear in
July 2004. The guest editors for this special issue are David
Simplot-Ryl, University of Lille, France, and Ivan Stojmenovic,
University of Ottawa, Canada.
Purpose
Wireless networks and mobile computing research has until recently
concentrated on single-hop networks (network nodes communicating
directly to a fixed infrastructure), such as cellular and satellite
systems. Ad hoc networking covers multi-hop scenarios (network nodes
communicating via other network nodes) such as conference, hospital,
battlefield, rescue, and monitoring scenarios. Particular ad hoc
network systems include packet radio networks, sensor networks,
personal communication systems, rooftop networks, and wireless local
area networks. Even multi-hop cellular networks may be a viable option
when a huge number of cellular phones are concentrated on a small area
such as stadium.
This special issue will cover comprehensively the network layer in
ad hoc networks, which deals with data communication and topology
control problems. Data communication problems include routing,
broadcasting, multicasting, geocasting, clustering, area monitoring,
data and service access. Topology control problems include neighbor
discovery, topology construction and maintenance, activity scheduling,
position discovery, partition detection, location updates, and network
management. The new approaches to ad hoc networks design emphasize
cross-layering approach, and therefore the relevant issues arising
from network layer problems will also be covered, such as power
management, security, quality of service, performance evaluation, data
link and transport layers.
The goal of the special issue is to publish original research and
review articles which should be comprehensive to all readers,
regardless of their specialty.
