Manuscript submissions
************
The submitted papers must be written in English and be formatted in the
standard IEEE two-column format and with a font size no less than
10-point. The mandatory IEEE template in Microsoft Word and LaTeX format
can be found at the IEEE templates page. Only PDF files will be accepted
for the review process. All submissions must be made electronically
through EDAS. Details will be available at the conference webpage
http://www.ieee-vnc.org/ soon.
The conference will consider four categories of submissions:
• Full papers should describe novel research contributions and are
limited in length to eight (8) printed pages including figures, tables,
and references. Papers exceeding 8 pages will be declined automatically
and will not be reviewed.
• Short papers should be more visionary in nature and may report on
work-in-progress without fully finished results. They are meant to
present novel perspectives, so as to foster discussions about innovative
directions and new points of view. They are limited to at most four (4)
pages including figures, tables, and references, but might in many cases
be even shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the
proceedings and will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at
the conference.
• Posters are especially suited for presenting controversial research
directions that may generate discussion, or promising ideas not yet
fully validated through complete extensive evaluation.
• Demonstration (demo) papers are suited for researchers to showcase
their latest prototypes with media, models, or live demonstrations.
Poster/demo papers should be 2-page papers following standard IEEE
2-column format using 10-point font. All paper submissions must be
written in English. The title of the paper should begin with either
"Poster:" or "Demo:”.

*GENERAL INFORMATION*
Cloud computing-based networking is a promising solution for better QoS and
QoE in cellular networks. It not only guarantees but also capable and
computes a big-data to provide better network experience to mobile end
users. The Fog computing augmentation within the 5G network will build a
unique framework to improve network capability, and provide a faster
real-time interface to applications. This lead to the researcher for the
development of fog networks. The fog networks is the next-generation
platform that extends cloud computing services and cellular networking,
such as 5G or 5G beyond (5GB) by utilizing the fog computing expertise and
adding new interfaces to facilitate the mobile end-users with improved
network performance.
This workshop introduces a new domain of futuristic cellular networks
called “Fog Networks”, and it is complementary to cloud aided 5G networks.
The proposed workshop provides the opportunity to identify the major
challenges, advancements, analysis, optimization, and performance in fog
networks, which arise due to distinct features of fog computing and
networking. This workshop will provide us a platform to discuss the
necessary modification, optimization, methodology, and possible solutions
for its deployment.
*AREAS OF INTEREST*
We seek original, completed, and unpublished work that is not currently
under review by any other journal, magazine, conference, or workshop.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Fog architectures for next generation cellular networks.
- Fog computing service and applications for cellular networks.
- Network management in fog networks.
- Cloud infrastructure support for fog networks.
- Fog networks performance over the 5G networks.
- Resource management and scheduling in fog networks.
- Mobility management in fog networks.
- Data management in fog networks.
- Security, privacy, and trust management in fog networks.
- Quality of service and Quality of experience in fog networks.
*SUBMISSION*
Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and not under consideration
at another conference or journal. Submitted papers must be at most six (06)
pages long, including figures, tables, references, and appendices in
two-column 10pt IEEE Conference format. Papers must exclude authors names
and affiliations for double-blind peer reviewing by the PC. Authors of
accepted papers are expected to present *(online* or *offline*) their
papers at the workshop venue. This IEEE LaTeX template should be useful in
complying with the above requirements. Presented Paper will be published in
the IEEE ANTS 2020 Proceedings, available at the IEEE Xplore.

DCOSS 2021 is the 17th International Conference on Distributed Computing
in Sensor Systems to be hosted in Coral Bay, Pafos, Cyprus in June 7-9,
2021. In the last few years, we have witnessed a significant growth in
the use of IoT and distributed sensor systems in a number of application
areas, ranging from smart transport, energy and buildings, to factory
automation, smart healthcare and environmental monitoring. In order for
smart sensor systems to truly become useful and pervasive, we need to
address a number of research challenges, including the tight integration
of sensing and machine intelligence, reliable and efficient networking,
interoperability and scalability, the need for dependable autonomy,
interaction with humans, and important aspects of security, privacy and
trust. DCOSS focuses on issues arising in the entire IoT and networked
sensor systems stack: covering aspects of high-level abstractions,
models and languages, novel algorithms and applications, system design
approaches and architectures, as well as tools for simulated and real
deployments. Potential authors are invited to submit original
unpublished manuscripts that demonstrate recent advances in both
theoretical and experimental research. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to, the following:
- Artificial Intelligence for IoT
- Smart healthcare to combat epidemics (including COVID-19)
- Edge and fog computing: distributed computing models from sensor to cloud
- Energy harvesting models and optimization
- Machine intelligence in distributed sensor systems and real time analytics
- Communication and networking primitives and protocols
- Autonomy: closing the loop between sensing and actuation
- Task allocation, reprogramming, and reconfiguration
- Robustness, resilience and dependability
- Security and privacy issues
- Approaches, tools, and experience of deployment and operation
- Performance analysis: complexity, correctness, scalability
- Mobile and human-centered sensing
- Interoperability, heterogeneity and scalability
- Crowd sensing and social sensing techniques, applications, and systems
- Complex systems comprising wearable, robotic and/or fixed sensor systems
- Novel and compelling applications
- IoT systems for emerging and developing economies

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts that
demonstrate current research on distributed sensor systems related to
DCOSS topics of interest. Please use the US letter size (8.5 X 11 in)
standard IEEE conference LaTeX format or Microsoft Word template
available on the link below:

The Passive and Active Measurement (PAM) conference brings together
researchers and operators to discuss novel and emerging work in the area
of network measurement and analysis. PAM is inclusive of all areas of
network measurement, but focuses on systems-based research and
real-world data. Indeed, measurement technology is needed at all layers
of the network stack, ranging from power profiling of hardware
components to virtualization in data centers to application profiling
and even user experience. Work with operational impact or relevance to
the broader network research community is especially welcome, as is
early and promising measurement technique. Original contributions that
advance the state-of-the-art in the following areas are invited:
- Applications (e.g., web, streaming, games)
- Data centers and cloud computing
- Energy
- IoT (e.g., smart home, SCADA, ICS, embedded systems)
- Measurement tools and software
- Network security and privacy
- Overlays (e.g., P2P, CDNs)
- Physical Layer
- Routing
- Social networks
- Topology
- Transport/congestion control
- User behavior and experience, QoE
- Virtualization (e.g., SDN, NFV)
- Visualization
- Wireless and mobile
Although PAM traditionally attracts early stage contributions, works
that are a reappraisal or independent validation of previous results, or
which enhance the reproducibility of network measurement research, for
instance by publishing new datasets on an existing topic, are explicitly
included in PAM’s scope.
**Submission Guidelines**
Authors should only submit original work that has not been published
before and is not under submission to any other venue. All submissions
must satisfy the following requirements:
- Follow Springer LNCS format (see
https://www.springer.com/us/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu…)
- Up to 12 pages for technical content (up to 5 pages for appendices and
references)
- Note that reviewers are not required to read appendices.
Everything needed to evaluate the paper should appear in the first 12 pages.
- Anonymization: Reviewing will be DOUBLE-BLIND:
- Do not include names or affiliations of authors in the submission.
- Refer to your prior work in the third person.
- Make a best effort to anonymize system names that would give you away.
- If you have any concerns about how to anonymize your paper while
maintaining its integrity, contact the PC chairs.

**Ethical Considerations**
Following the standard set by the Internet Measurement Conference (from
which we base this section), papers describing experiments with users or
sensitive user data (e.g., network traffic, passwords, social network
information) must follow basic precepts of ethical research and
subscribe to community norms. These include: respect for privacy, secure
storage of sensitive data, voluntary and informed consent if users are
placed at risk, avoiding deceptive practices when not essential,
beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual or to society
while minimizing harm to the individual), and risk mitigation. When
appropriate, authors are encouraged to include a subsection (in the main
paper, not in the Appendix) describing these issues. Authors may want to
consult the Menlo Report
(http://www.caida.org/publications/papers/2012/menlo_report_actual_formatted/)
for further information on ethical principles and the Allman/Paxson IMC
2007 paper (https://conferences.sigcomm.org/imc/2007/papers/imc80.pdf)
for guidance on ethical data sharing. Note that submitting research for
approval by each author's institutional ethics review body is necessary,
but not sufficient -- in cases where the PC has concerns about the
ethics of the work in a submission, the PC will consider the ethical
soundness and justification of any paper, just as it does its technical
soundness. Authors unsure about ethical issues are welcome to contact
the program committee co-chairs.
**Awards**
There will be two awards for papers of exceptional merit. The **Best
Paper Award** will recognize the paper that is deemed by the committee
to have the highest merit of all the submissions. The *Best Dataset
Award* will be given to the best paper that makes datasets and
corresponding code available to the public by the time the camera-ready
is submitted. These artifacts must be sufficiently documented such that
any researcher can use them to repeat the results described in the
paper, and they must be placed in a sufficiently long-lived archival
repository (e.g., Github, Bitbucket, or CRAWDAD).

16th Wireless On-demand Network systems and Services Conference

Wireless on-demand network systems and services have become pivotal in
shaping our future networked world. Starting as a niche application over
Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth
LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of
upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, cloud
networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic
networks, and in-body networks.
The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples
include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple
technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking
opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust
services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and
operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust
and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation.
Finally, there are many application-specific challenges.
WONS, now in its sixteenth edition, is a high quality forum to address
these challenges. WONS aims to provide a global platform for rich
interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative
contributions in a stimulating environment.
This announcement solicits original contributions of high-quality
research providing novel insights on all aspects of wireless on-demand
networks and systems; from protocol and network design, modeling,
performance evaluation, energy efficiency, models and mechanisms,
practical implementations, service level aspects, application use-cases,
to the integration of multiple wireless network technologies.
Accepted and presented papers will appear in the conference proceedings
published in the IFIP Open Access Digital Library and will also be
submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library as well as other
Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
This edition of WONS will take place in the beautiful mountains of
Switzerland, where we will hopefully meet face-to-face for great
discussions. Yet, conscious of the circumstances, the organizing
committee will keep the COVID situation under observation and, if deemed
necessary, might allow people with travel restrictions to present their
work remotely.

practitioners to share their state-of-the-art research and development
results in areas of particular interest. IEEE VTC2021-Spring will
include half- and full-day workshops to complement the overall technical
program events. These workshops provide a more focused, in-depth venue
for presentations, discussions and interaction. The workshop proposals
will be peer-reviewed with a focus on submissions that inspire deep and
interactive dialogue in topics that are of interest to the mobile and

*Title:*Millimeter-wave and THz channels and systems for high-mobility
environments
*Abstract: *Millimeter-wave based communications is one of the key
components of 5G. Among other applications, high-rate communications for
both passengers and control systems in vehicular and train environments
are envisioned. This talk will start out by discussion propagation
channels in high-mobility environments, describing both recent
measurements and suitable models. This will be followed by a discussion
of antenna and MIMO technology for such systems, their complexity, and
sensitivity to mobility.

*Title:*Deep Analog-to-Digital Compression with Applications to
Automotive Radar and Massive MIMO
*Abstract:*The famous Shannon-Nyquist theorem has become a landmark in
analog to digital conversion and the development of digital signal
processing algorithms. However, in many modern applications, the signal
bandwidths have increased tremendously, while the acquisition
capabilities have not scaled sufficiently fast. Furthermore, the
resulting high rate digital data requires storage, communication and
processing at very high rates which is computationally expensive and
requires large amounts of power. In this talk we consider a general
framework for sub-Nyquist sampling and processing in space, time and
frequency which allows to dramatically reduce the number of antennas,
sampling rates, number of bits and band occupancy in a variety of
applications. It also allows for the development of efficient joint
radar-communication systems. Our framework relies on exploiting signal
structure, quantization and the processing task in both standard
processing and in deep learning networks. We consider applications of
these ideas to a variety of problems in wireless communications,
efficient massive MIMO systems, automotive radar and ultrasound imaging
and show several demos of real-time sub-Nyquist prototypes including a
wireless ultrasound probe, sub-Nyquist automotive radar, cognitive radio
and radar, dual radar-communication systems, analog precoding, sparse
antenna arrays, and a deep Viterbi decoder.

the information at a rapid pace has transformed all spheres of human
life such as economy, education, and health to name a few. In this
context, and as the standardization of the fifth generation (5G) of
wireless communication systems (WCSs) has been completed, and 5G
networks are in their early stage of deployment, the research visioning
and planning of the sixth generation (6G) of WCSs are being initiated.
6G is expected to be the next focus in wireless communication and
networking and aim to provide new superior communication services to
meet the future hyper-connectivity demands in the 2030s. In addition,
keeping in mind that urbanized populations have been the major
beneficiary of the advances offered by the previous generations of WCSs
and motivated by the recently adopted united nations sustainability
development goals intended to be achieved by the year 2030, 6G networks
are anticipated to democratize the benefits of ICT. Indeed these
advantages are still not experienced by almost 4 billion people in the
world who are still “unconnected or under-connected” and who suffer as
such from the “digital divide”, a term coined in order to emphasize the
lack of ICT infrastructure in many parts of the world. Given this
background, this talk aims to (i) provide an envisioned picture of 6G,
(ii) serve as a research guideline in the beyond 5G era, and (iii) go
over the recently proposed solutions to provide high-speed connectivity
in under-covered areas in order to serve and contribute to the
development of far-flung regions.

*Title: *The Research Directions for 6G
*Abstract: *In this talk, we present our view on 6G technologies, its
trends and research directions. Wireless technology have gone through
several major revolutions and it is always the case that the disruptive
technologies enable the wireless innovation and market success.
As 5G technology enables the digital transformation of every vertical
business, we see a radical paradigm shift from the conventional
operator-centric view to an inclusive prosumer-centric view, and the new
approach to a federated networking and service provisioning, redefining
the smart connectivity infrastructure as a much more dynamic composition
of all resources of participating users. This include the spectrum usage
reform and infrastructure sharing, we present four fundamental changes
in terms of 6G networking and associated research challenges.
The other aspect for 6G is a total unification of mobile, satellite,
network, cloud, cloud-edge computing, ML, AI, end-to-end cybersecurity,
innovative devices, Industry IoT, cell-less MIMO and Terahertz
Communication to support the prosumer-centric model, in this
architecture, we list a few technology enablers, such a mmWave-THz
sensing, machine learning-training DNN to enable semantic communications
as intelligent connectivity, the research in these areas will shape the
radio access for 6G.
Since the 6G is future platform to enable new innovations with its
state-of-the-art capabilities, we provide an analysis of the
key-performance indicators for 6G. In addition, we share our view of the
potential impact of Quantum computing, mega-satellite-constellation and
neural-center (instead of data center) to 6G.

*Title: CAV Enabling Mobility Services Opportunities*
Abstract: The transportation industry currently is undergoing a huge
transition – estimated by some to be the biggest transformation in its
history. Vehicles are increasingly being equipped with embedded
connectivity and automated technologies and Automotive Edge Computing
Consortium (AECC) predicts that by 2025 CAV market will be $150B with
more that 100 million CAV on the road. This has enabled several Mobility
as a Service (MaaS) opportunities. Analysts indicate that connected car
capabilities already influence 6 out of 10 vehicle purchases, giving
vehicle manufacturers the ability to open new revenue streams, diversify
core activities, and improve profit margins by selling software and
connected services. Processing the big data from connected vehicles is
one of the big challenges all automakers are currently facing. But these
challenges also provide opportunities to build hyper connected
cyber-physical systems (also called Digital Twin) with several
interesting use cases like personalized intelligent driving and smart
traffic management using CAVs.

*Abstract: *In the era of the Internet of information, we have gone
through layer, cross-layer, and cross-system design paradigms. The
“curse of modeling” and “curse of dimensionality” of the current
Internet of information have resulted in the popularity of using
artificial intelligence (AI) for the Internet of information in the
recent years. However, many significant research challenges remain to be
addressed for the Internet of information to enable connected and
autonomous vehicles.
In a larger time scale, humans’ cooperation has gone through “grid of
transportation”, “grid of energy”, and “the Internet of information”
paradigms. The next cooperation paradigm could be “the Internet of
intelligence”, where intelligence can be easily obtained like
information and energy. The Internet of intelligence can become an
important enabler for connected and autonomous vehicles. In this talk,
we will present some recent advances in these areas. Then, we will
discuss some open issues and challenges that need to be addressed in the
future.

*Title: Power Electronics Research Development for Energy Storage
and Electric Vehicles*
*Abstract:*Power electronics is an enabli9ng technology for power
conversion. The key components of an Electric Vehicle are the
battery and the motor drive. Energy storages such as batteries and
super-capacitors are now the major units. Energy cell packaging is
now a new direction. The use of energy cells to integrate with the
vehicle body has been reported and suggests good potential for
energy management. The energy management and balance is now a
necessary component to manage the energy cells. Besides the energy
storage and the traction motor and drives, there are numerous motors
and actuators used in modern electric vehicles. One of them is an
active suspension system to replace the conventional hydraulic
system. The In-wheel motor is based on integrating the motor and
wheel into a single unit that increase the power density and
presents a real 4-wheel drive. The skid steering can, therefore, be
realized. Also, the anti-lock braking (ABS) is an all-electric
braking system, and replaces the conventional hydraulic system in ABS.
An extensive overview of the latest electric vehicle technology is
presented. The talk covers the major advanced components of an
electric vehicle and the technology and research related to the
development, and its associated power electronics development.
Finally, the talk is concluded with an outlook on future vehicles.

*Abstract: *IoT- Internet of Things-is proven on both the vehicle
electronic and Consumer electronics industry by its leader, Tesla,
and Xiaomi. As an important role in the new energy vehicle
ecosystem, EV charging station is welcoming the intelligent trend of
IoT as well. Smart charging stations utilizing IOT technologies will
enhance the user experience, enable great expansibility to CPO,
finally providing an intelligence information port or the entire
energy system. Thanks to IoT hardware infrastructure on our smart
charging station. We designed an embedded system based on the
charging scene, enabling our device to achieve control, interaction,
and internet communication functions on a tiny PCB. We also make a
reasonable cut to the system and application software to achieve
higher efficiency. As the advantages of IoT integration, the
simplification of the supply-chain, the reduction of cost, and the
reduction of the marginal cost of software also make the profit of
charging station providers possible. Finally, we believe that the
smart charging station will be used as an infrastructure
construction to welcome the new energy era.

*Title: Virtual rail intelligent express system*
*Abstract:*Due to the role of track guidance, bearing and
constraint, rail trains have the advantages of large volume and high
efficiency, and have been the backbone of urban transportation for a
long time. However, due to the harsh smoothness and other
requirements of the track, the system construction, operation and
maintenance are complicated and costly. Therefore, the industry has
been exploring new types of trains, simplifying the requirements of
vehicles on the track structure, and innovating straddle-type
monorail trains, guideway type rubber trolleybuses, etc., so as to
change the solid track from double track to monorail. Whether the
dependence on the physical track can be completely overturned is a
new technical challenge.
The virtual track intelligent express system is the first to create
a new multi-group articulated rubber-tyred train based on the
virtual track, which completely replaces the physical track through
technologies such as path perception and active guidance control.
Since 2010, it has undergone an iterative innovation process such as
concept research, principle verification, prototype testing, and
engineering demonstrations, it made its world premiere in 2017.
This system creates a new rail transit system, which can be widely
used in the network connection or extension of metropolitan rail
transit, the construction of backbone transportation systems in
small and medium cities, and the operation of special lines such as
tourist attractions. Compared with trams, the overall cost is only
about 1/3, the construction period is only about 1/2, it can be
flexibly configured and quickly form a transportation network.
Taking the 17.7km T1 line of Sichuan Yibin, where the system is
applied, as an example, it saves about 1.7 billion yuan in
investment compared with the tram system. In the year of opening
(2019), the city was promoted to rank first in the congestion
reduction rate in China. At present, the system has successfully
passed the extreme cold and high heat extreme tests in Harbin and
Qatar, and has become the traffic (connection) solution for the 2022
World Cup.
The emergence of this system has injected strong original innovation
power into the diversified and deep development of the world’s rail
transit. It has outstanding characteristics and obvious advantages.
It has a broad market application space in the future and has great
potential for sustainable development.

*Title: Making Electric Vehicles and the Grid Work Together*
*Abstract: *The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) will
pose significant technical and economic challenges on the power
grid, particularly on very infrastructure they are connected to the
electric distribution network. These networks have been
traditionally designed to have no or limited controllability and,
hence, are largely unmonitored.They will become the bottlenecks and
therefore understanding how to best integrate EVs is critical to
facilitate the electrification of our transport.
This keynote will discuss the impacts of EVs and the challenges
faced by distribution companies. Furthermore, it will present some
of the findings of the large-scale UK trial “My Electric Avenue” in
which more than 200 EVs were monitored for over a year to understand
usage patterns as well as to test the effectiveness of EV charging
point management to avoid network issues. The keynote will also
provide an overview of the challenges brought by fast-charging
stations and the need for future cities to have holistic planning
approaches that involve traffic flows.

*Title: Bumblebee-Inspired Connected Vehicles: What’s All The Buzz
About*
*Abstract:*Wireless connectivity is quickly becoming a critical
element in future transportation systems, especially with respect to
self-driving cars and various levels of vehicular autonomy. Given
the complex and highly time-varying environments existing on busy
roadways, having each vehicle possessing real-time situational
awareness is essential for performing complex functions, such as
autonomous lane-changing, traffic intersection management, and
platooning. Although there already exists a variety of different
sensors that can gather data about the vehicular environment in
order to obtain real-time situation awareness, such as LIDAR, RADAR,
and vision systems, these sensors can only collect this data via
line-of-sight (LOS). On the other hand, wireless connectivity is not
constrained to LOS data gathering and can greatly increase the
real-time situational awareness of each vehicle on the road,
enhancing its performance and increasing driver/passenger safety. As
the number of vehicles on the road become connected to each other,
this information sharing will evolve into a Vehicular
Internet-of-Things (VIOT) environment. To support the VIOT
ecosystem, adequate wireless spectrum is needed to enable this
connectivity between vehicles in real-time as they are operating on
the road in complex conditions. To achieve this, Vehicular Dynamic
Spectrum Access, or VDSA, can be employed, where unoccupied wireless
spectrum is temporarily accessed by non-licensed users in order to
support data communications during that time interval. Compared to
conventional DSA techniques, VDSA needs to be capable of handling
significant spectral availability variations during a transmission.
Past research has explored the use of VDSA in television white space
spectral environments as well as the implementation of VDSA
algorithms using machine learning techniques. However, recently a
new approach to VDSA has been proposed where each vehicle performs
VDSA using an algorithm based on bumblebee-inspired resource
foraging. In this talk, the fundamentals of how bumblebee-inspired
VDSA will be presented, with several examples shown in order to
demonstrate the performance of this approach.

Collaborative Intelligence for Vehicular Internet of Things

Future vehicular Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems feature a large number of
devices and multi-access environments where different types of
communication, computing, and storage resources must be efficiently
utilized. At the same time, novel services, such as cooperative autonomous
driving and intelligent transport systems (ITS), that demand unprecedented
high accuracy, ultra-low latency, and large bandwidth, are emerging. These
services also have an extreme variance in user requirements and resource
demands with respect to time, location, and context. Hence, current
research is no longer confined to improving reliable communication and
system operation in the presence of highly mobile vehicles, which has been
the main focus in the past. It is therefore important to empower future
vehicular IoT systems with advanced features, such as real-time reactive
and proactive cooperation and coordination among different agents (or
decision makers), including vehicles, roadside units, base stations,
pedestrians, and other entities.
Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) based approaches have been
attracting great interest in empowering computer systems. Some
collaborative learning approaches, such as federated learning and
multi-agent systems, have been used to reduce network traffic and improve
learning efficiency of some smartphone applications. In vehicular IoT
systems, collaborative intelligence can be achieved via an efficient
collaboration among heterogeneous entities, including vehicles, edges, and
cloud. This special issue will focus on the technical challenges and the
synergistic effect of collaboration among heterogeneous entities and AI in
enabling intelligent perception of environment, intelligent networking, and
intelligent processing of big data in vehicular IoT systems. We invite
researchers to contribute their original research articles that will
facilitate the development of vehicular IoT based on collaborative
intelligence.

We are delighted to invite you for the 5th IEEE International Conference on
Fog and Edge Computing to be held in Melbourne, Australia. The conference
will be held as part of and in conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2021, which
is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and ACM.
INTRODUCTION
Billions of devices and sensors ranging from user gadgets to more complex
systems with sensing and actuating capabilities, such as power grids or
vehicles, from the physical world are getting connected to the Internet.
However, the need to operate the scale of heterogeneous devices and sensors
while being performance-efficient in real-time is challenging. Typically,
the data generated by the devices and sensors are transferred to and
processed centrally by services hosted on geographically distant clouds.
This is untenable given the communication latency incurred and the ingress
bandwidth demand.
A new and disruptive paradigm spear-headed by academics and industry experts
is taking shape so that applications can leverage resources located at the
edge of the network and along the continuum between the cloud and the edge.
These edge resources may be geographically or in the network topology be
closer to devices and sensors, such as home router, gateways or more
substantial micro data centers. Edge resources may be used to offload
selected services from the cloud to accelerate an application or host
edge-native applications. The paradigm within which the edge is harnessed is
referred to as 'Fog/Edge computing'.
The Fog/Edge computing paradigm is expected to improve the agility of
service deployments, make use of opportunistic and cheap computing, and
leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities between these
resources. Numerous challenges arise when using edge resources, which
requires the re-examination of operating systems, virtualization and
containers, and middleware techniques for fabric management. Extensions to
current programming and storage models are required and new abstractions
that will allow developers to design novel applications that can benefit
from massively distributed and data-driven systems need to be developed.
Addressing security, privacy and trust of the edge resources is of paramount
importance while managing the resources and context for mobile, transient
and hardware constrained resources. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous
vehicles and machine/deep learning need to be supported over such platforms.

The conference seeks to attract high-quality contributions covering both
theory and practice over system software and domain-specific applications
related to next-generation distributed systems that use the edge. Some

PerCom is the premier scholarly venue in the areas of pervasive
computing and communications. Detailed information about the scope of

AFFILIATED EVENTS (www.percom.org)
PerCom'21 Industry Track
This year, PerCom continues the dedicated Industry Track. Accepted
papers will be published in the PerCom Workshops and other Affiliated
Events proceedings. This track will be an opportunity for people
associated with industry and academia to present their novel ideas while
attracting funding and/or further expanding collaborations. These papers
will be presented with focus on research that has direct Industry impact
and potential for industry uptake. For this track, important criteria
for papers to be submitted to the Industry Track is clear industrial
association, either in the form of extensive evaluation of research
results in industrial use cases or active participation of industry
representatives as co-authors. Having this condition in mind,
contributions related to ongoing or finished, but previously unpublished
research papers are welcomed. Submissions from a broad spectrum of
research fields with common interest in pervasive computing and
communications are expected. There will be a Best Industry Track Paper
Award to acknowledge and encourage excellence in collaborative industry

PerCom'21 Work in Progress
The Work in Progress (WiP) session provides an opportunity to present
and discuss new challenges and visions, showcase early research results,
and explore novel research directions. Papers (4 pages in the IEEE
proceedings format) are expected to report on early or ongoing research
on any aspect of pervasive computing and communications. The authors of
accepted papers will present their work during the main conference and
must register for the conference. (Paper submission: December 15, 2020)
PerCom'21 Demos
The PerCom Demo session provides a venue for the latest breakthroughs in
pervasive computing to be presented live to the research community.
Demos ranging from examples of working prototypes, novel applications,
groundbreaking ideas, and live experiments related to PerCom are all
welcome. In particular, we encourage demos from industrial researchers
who are leading the way in pushing pervasive technology into the hands
of the public. A "Best Demo Award" will be presented based on research

PerCom'21 PhD Forum
The PerCom PhD Forum provides an excellent opportunity for Ph.D.
students to present their dissertation research, including work in
progress, to the wider pervasive computing and communication community.
This meeting offers an opportunity to share experiences with other Ph.D.
students and meet with accomplished international researchers and obtain
feedback from them. Please refer to the conference website for details.

The 6th IEEE PerCom Workshop on Pervasive Health Technologies (PerHealth
2021)

workshop that brings researchers from engineering, computer science, and
medicine together to discuss the latest findings in this area and
advance the field. Pervasive health research spans a broad spectrum and
health-focused technologies ranging from mobile health and health
information technology to medical devices, telemedicine, and
personalized healthcare. The interactive workshop will be inspiring for
anyone conducting research in the area of pervasive health and related
fields. This includes research in technology design and development as
well as clinical studies and novel application areas. The aim is to
provide a forum where hardware, software, and middleware technologies,
as well as data privacy and security issues are discussed that relate to
aging in place, geriatrics, chronic disease management, health

The 17th Workshop on Context and Activity Modeling and Recognition

The CoMoRea Workshop is a follow-up to a successful 16 years series of
workshops on Context and Activity Modeling and Recognition (CoMoReA) and
the ACOMORE Symposium. This workshop's aim is to advance the state of
the art in context and activity modeling and reasoning and discuss
fundamental issues in context processing and management. The goal is to
identify concepts, theories and methods applicable to context modeling
and context reasoning as well as system-oriented issues related to the

IEEE First International Workshop on Deep Learning in Pervasive
Computing (PerDL)

working on pervasive computing and on deep learning, by soliciting

distributed deep learning techniques and algorithms; theories, models

and distributed computing; novel applications of deep learning
techniques in the context of pervasive and distributed computing;

The 5th International Workshop on Annotation of User Data for Ubiquitous
Systems (ARDUOUS )

Labelling user data is a central part of the design and evaluation of
pervasive systems that aim to support the user through situation-aware
reasoning. It is essential both in designing and training the system to
recognise and reason about the situation, either through the definition
of a suitable situation model in knowledge-driven applications, or
through the preparation of training data for learning tasks in
data-driven models. Hence, the quality of annotations can have a
significant impact on the performance of the derived systems. Labelling
is also vital for validating and quantifying the performance of
applications. With pervasive systems relying increasingly on large
datasets for designing and testing models of users' activities, the
process of data labelling is becoming a major concern for the community.
Even more, with the increase of pervasive applications relying on
annotated data, it becomes important to develop standards and
normalisation methodologies for transferability of annotated data across
different applications. To address the problem, this year's workshop
focuses on methods for standardisation and normalisation in annotation
practices and possible roadmaps and good practices in addressing the

The 5th Workshop on emotion awareness for pervasive computing - beyond
traditional approaches (EmotionAware)

An important goal of pervasive computing is to integrate computer
devices into the users' everyday life seamlessly. This allows
context-aware applications to gather information about the users to
support them in their daily tasks. A newly attractive source of
information for pervasive computing is provided by mobile devices,
wearable devices, and pervasive sensors able to detect the emotional
state of the users. In many real-world scenarios, it is essential to use
wearable sensors, embedded in mobile devices such as smartphones and
smartwatches, to measure the emotional state of the user. This would
help to understand how emotions influence processes such as decision
making and reasoning. We aim to have unique contributions addressing
this challenge and to provide a discussion space to facilitate
collaboration among researchers interested in emotion recognition for

The 3rd International Workshop on Pervasive Computing for Vehicular

including wireless networking, mobile and distributed computing, sensor

and realizing intelligent, smart vehicular systems. The topics include:

computing/middleware for/by vehicles, V2X communications, UAVs, MEC,

The Fifth IEEE International Workshop on Smart & Green Edge Computing
and Networking (SmartEdge 2021)

Recent studies show that the amount of data generated at the edge of the
Internet will be vast, incredibly rich, extremely valuable, and becoming
the key enabler for data-rich edge systems and applications. SmartEdge
has taken a leading role in addressing data/systems/applications
interests, challenges, and research problems of the edge. This year,
SmartEdge's themes are: Intelligent Edge, and Green Edge. By integrating
the advances in smart devices and edge systems with the advances in
machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), the future role
of smart edge systems, networks, and applications is becoming limitless
and it is expected to revolutionize the future of the world within the
next few years. Green Edge is a recent emerging research field that
focuses on architectures and algorithms to support energy-efficient edge
operation, and distributed algorithms and optimizations that make the
edge a major contributor to the overall energy efficiency of the entire

The Fifth Workshop on Security, Privacy and Trust in the Internet of

As the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) increases and more data
are shared through the hyperconnected networks there are more concerns
associated with the security of data. Furthermore, maintaining a
balance between the availability of data and users' privacy, and
ensuring trust are issues that require attention to encourage the
adaptability of IoT applications. The SPT-IoT workshop is organized to
encourage researchers and industry practitioners to come up with
innovative ideas to focus on IoT security, privacy, and trust. (Paper

Pervasive Context-Aware Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation
Systems (PerAwareCity)

This workshop will focus on bringing together researchers and
practitioners working on systems and applications in the Smart City
domain. The architectural, networking and decision making aspects will
be investigated and discussed. Underlying structure of Smart City
systems, including different possible architectural models such as
peer-to-peer, location based, server oriented, and hybrid models will be
studied. Almost all smart city related problems, which are important for
societal welfare, and could potentially be solved using AI techniques,
can be presented in this workshop by researchers from industry and
academia. In general, we want to focus on solutions of the following
questions: (a) How to design city-scale smart systems with autonomous
coordination capabilities; (b) How to develop intelligent decision
making abilities in emergency and safety-critical systems or during
medium and large-scale disasters, and (c) How to handle real-time
conditions innovate computing technology for diverse societal
applications to improve the human experience. We also hope to produce a
post-workshop position paper providing a summary perspective and future
directions for work in the area. A community of researchers and
practitioners will also be created and nurtured via this workshop.

Mobile and Pervasive Assistive Technologies (MPAT)

The aim of MPAT workshop is to showcase recent advancements in mobile
and pervasive assistive technologies, connecting researchers and
practitioners working in the fields of accessibility and pervasive
systems. This is motivated by the fact that mobile and pervasive devices
are rapidly becoming platforms of choice to support the development of
state-of-the-art assistive technologies to improve the quality of life
of people with disabilities. Pervasive sensors, actuators, and IoT
installations are able to provide key information about the environment
and those who traverse it, while mobile devices enable general-purpose
computing on the move, cutting edge sensing, and persistent
connectivity. They are also compact, widespread and socially acceptable,
and therefore well suited to provide assistance everywhere and at all
times. These qualities can be leveraged to achieve ubiquitous assistance
for everyday activities such as mobility, information access,

International Workshop on Mobile and Pervasive Internet of Things (PerIoT)

In recent years, the Internet has become increasingly pervasive allowing
people to connect anytime and everywhere to achieve pervasiveness and
mobility. The coupling among mobile technology, embedded objects, and a
worldwide pervasive communication infrastructure constitutes the Mobile
and Pervasive Internet-of-Things. The aim of International Workshop on
Mobile and Pervasive Internet of Things (PerIoT) 2021 workshop is to
bring together authors from the research and industrial communities,
standardization bodies, and institutional entities to meet and exchange
ideas on recent research, challenges and future directions on: i) the
recent advances in the area of existing and emerging mobile and
pervasive IoT technologies and ii) research, challenges and future
directions for IoT real-world deployments in multiple production-ready
application scenarios. PerIoT is organized with two main tracks in order
to properly highlight the contributions related to the two main focuses
of the event - 1) MPIoT Track - Mobile and Pervasive Internet of Things,

Workshop on sensing systems and applications using wrist worn smart
devices (WristSense)

Using sensors, computation resources, and communication interfaces
available on smart watches and smart bands, it is possible to capture
information about the device user, perform computation to infer the
user's activities and their context, and communicate these to a
smartphone or the cloud. These wrist worn smart devices represent a
perfect platform to conduct research on human activity and behavior.
They introduce opportunities for exploring new research problems, such
as efficient classification and computation on the wearable device,
offloading of computation from the user's watch to the phone or the
cloud, enhancement of user experience, smart notification management,
physical activity sensing, behavior modeling, and data analysis. This
workshop will bring academic researchers and industry experts to
collectively identify challenges and opportunities in wrist based
sensing and present research to push the field forward as well as
practical solutions for commercial wrist based devices. (Paper

International Workshop on Pervasive Information Flow (PerFlow'21)

PerFlow 2021 aims to present and discuss research challenges on
timely/real-time utilization of massive information flows from IoT
devices. Examples of topics are IoT device collaboration, mobile data
offloading, mobile crowdsensing, machine learning for sensor data

The International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor
Networks (IPSN) is the leading annual forum on research at the
intersection of networked embedded sensing, control, and systems design.
Now in its 20th year, IPSN has been at the forefront of the development
of today's "smart" systems. IPSN brings together researchers from
academia, industry, and government to present and discuss recent
advances in both theoretical and experimental research on all aspects of
networked systems of sensors and actuators. Its scope includes signal
and image processing, information and coding theory, databases and
information management, distributed algorithms, networks and protocols,
wireless communications, collaborative objects, the Internet of Things,
machine learning, mobile and social sensing, and embedded systems
design. Of special interest are contributions at the confluence of
multiple of these areas.
IPSN 2021 is part of the CPS-IoT WEEK, the premier venue for research
and development of cyber-physical systems. IPSN is co-sponsored by both
the ACM and IEEE, and it continues to emphasize research that bridges
multiple research communities. IPSN is interested in all aspects of
sensor networks, ranging from traditional topics such as networking to
more recent developments such as embedded machine learning and computer
vision.

In addition to the established Best Paper Award, IPSN 2021 may provide
a Best Research Artifact Award to the authors who have contributed the
research artifact that is judged to be the most novel, easy to use, well
documented, and useful to advance research. Research artifacts, such as
code, data sets, and tools, are highly encouraged to be submitted or
made available simultaneously with paper submission.
*** Paper Submissions ***
IPSN 2021 accepts double-blind paper submissions which have not been
previously published. Posted technical reports (ArXiv or similar) do not
count as prior publication and do not violate the double-blind
requirement. Submitted manuscripts are up to 12 pages, inclusive of
figures, tables, and references, following the ACM master article
template. During the review process, the reviewers may anonymously
communicate with the authors for clarifying questions.
Papers are to be submitted at https://ipsn2021.hotcrp.com/
IPSN collaborates closely with the IoTDI conference, given the proximity
in research themes (both related to IoT) and the co-location in CPS-IoT
Week. We provide submission guidelines to aid prospective authors with
the conference venue selection. In the meantime, we would like to make
explicit that double submission remains prohibited under ACM's policy of
Prior Publication and Simultaneous Submissions. In 2021 and to foster a
closer joint-community, we would invite quality submissions to one venue
for publication at the other, in case we find fit and the authors agree.
