CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
================================================
IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing
Special Issue on Energy-Efficient Edge Computing
================================================
Submission deadline (EXTENDED): April 15, 2020
The future increase in the amount of data and workloads generated by
Internet
of Things (IoT) devices and connected sensors will lead to the necessity to
move computational nodes from the cloud data centers closer to the data
source,
i.e., at the edge of the cloud, for reduced latency. An edge system is
composed
of any computing and networking resources along the path between data
sources
and cloud data centers. Depending on the specific computing needs, edge
computing devices can use either a wireless or a wired connection to
exchange
messages with the data sources. IoT devices and sensors can then exploit the
hierarchical structure of the edge and cloud system to analyze the collected
data and provide useful information to users in a timely manner. For
example,
wearable sensors could use the computing resources of the user’s smartphone,
laptop, or even smart vehicle to analyze the collected data. Because a large
majority of edge devices are battery operated and have limited connectivity,
the energy efficiency of computation becomes critical. To this end, it is
important to minimize the energy consumption of all the components of an
edge
system, including sensors, IoT devices, edge nodes, and network devices
while
guaranteeing the desired performance. For this special issue we solicit
original experimental, conceptual, and theoretical contributions on the
following topics related to energy-efficient edge computing:
- energy-aware application placement and offloading
- energy-aware resource management
- energy-aware data management
- energy-aware edge2cloud coordination
- energy-aware sensing for edge computing systems
- energy-efficient hardware architectures for edge computing and devices
- energy-efficient edge computing for AI applications
- energy-efficient edge computing applications
- edge computing powered by distributed renewable energy resources
- energy-efficient vehicular edge computing
- energy-efficient edge computing for autonomous robots
- energy-efficient networks for edge computing

Call for Papers
3rd Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems
and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench'20)
in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2020
September 21-25, 2020 - London, UK
https://cpsbench20.ethz.ch/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last decade, research on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet
of Things (IoT) has led to smart systems at different scales and
environments,
from smart homes to smart cities and smart factories. Despite many
successes,
it is difficult to measure and compare the utility of these results due to a
lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies. This problem
inhibits
evaluation against the state-of-the-art, the comparability of different
integrated designs (e.g., control and networking), and the applicability of
tested scenarios to present and future real-world cyber-physical
applications
and deployments. This state of affairs is alarming, it significantly hinders
further progress in CPS and IoT systems research.
******** TOPICS ********
The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things
(CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different
sub-communities
to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and
comparing cyber-physical networks and systems. Unique to this workshop, we
seek reports describing the reproduction of experimental results reported in
published papers. Examples of this include researchers looking to validate
another piece of work before comparing their own to it, or industrial
organizations evaluating a new technology or demonstrating the robustness
of their technology before customer delivery.
We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit
papers focusing on one of the following topics:
- describe an attempt to reproduce experimental results from published work;
- identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous
benchmarking
and evaluation of cyber-physical networks and systems;
- report on success stories/failures with using standard evaluation
criteria;
- present example benchmark systems and approaches from any relevant
community
(embedded systems, networking, control, robotics, machine learning);
- propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the
level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results;
- report on examples of best practices in different CPS sub-communities
towards achieving the repeatability of results;
- present models to capture & compare the properties of algorithms &
systems;
Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to
support a
paper's claims.
Submitted papers must be written in English and may contain up to 6 pages,
including references, figures, and tables. We will follow a double-blind
reviewing process, therefore authors must anonymize their submissions.
References to the authors' own previous work must not be omitted, but
referred to in third person. Accepted papers will be published either on
OpenReview.net or on the ACM Digital Library.
******** IMPORTANT DATES ********
- Paper submission deadline: May 15, 2020 (11:59:59PM EST)
- Notification of acceptance: July 1, 2020
- Camera-ready versions: July 31, 2020
- Workshop date: September 21 or 25, 2020

IOIoT 2020 CFP
Due to the ever-increasing growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices
with resource-hungry applications and the unprecedented demands of
computing capabilities, edge servers with limited resources cannot
efficiently satisfy the requirements of the IoT applications and Deep
Neural Networks (DNNs) computing. Task offloading technology can break
through the resource limitations of IoT devices, reduce the computing
load and improve the task processing efficiency. Optimizing DNNs through
task offloading has become a new direction in edge intelligence
research. Deep learning driven approaches can facilitate offloading
decision making, dynamic resource allocation and content caching,
benefit in coping with the growth in volumes of communication and
computation for emerging IoT applications. However, how to customize
deep learning techniques for task offloading in IoTs is still under
discussion. Learning algorithms in edge computing are still immature and
inefficient.
The goal of the IOIoT Workshop is devoted to the most recent
developments of intelligent offloading technologies for IoT and and edge
computing. Industry experience reports and empirical studies are also
welcome. We aim to bring together researchers and practitioners to
discuss the latest advancements and identify further challenges for task
offloading in IoTs that must be overcome. The topics of the workshop
include but not limited to:
Computing Paradigm Frontiers: Edge Computing, Fog Computing, Cloud
Computing that assisted with AI
Theories, Scenarios and Applications: Learning-based approaches for
Learning-based approaches: Intelligent decision making for task
offloading, resource allocation, profiling, modelling, content caching,
cyber-security, and privacy in IoTs
Design, Development and Architecture: New AI-based theories, scenarios
and applications for application placement, computation offloading or
data offloading in IoTs
Performance Modelling and Evaluation: Deep learning driven latency and
energy consumption model of task offloading; Joint communication and
computation optimization for emerging IoT applications
Optimization Algorithms: Joint communication and computation
optimization for emerging IoT applications
Sustainable and Green Computing: Intelligent resource management and
scheduling; DNN-based applications partitioning in IoTs

*Workshop Overview*
Smart technologies are increasingly present in our everyday life, rapidly
changing the environments in which we live or work, as well as the way in
which we travel beween them. In order for these technologies to be accepted
by laypersons, they must be user-friendly. This is made possible by
increasingly sophisticated human-machine interfaces of today's information
and communication (ICT) systems. Such systems, on the one hand, communicate
with humans, on the other hand they require external services which they
obtain from a globally networked environment. Therefore, "communication"
in such settings refers to both the communication between technical systems
as well as the communication between ICT systems and humans. While the
reliance on external services offers great opportunities for the development
and deployment of adaptive algorithms, it also comes with risks, both for
security and safety. The challenges inherent in this research area cover
various disciplines of computer science ranging from embedded systems,
systems engineering, telecommunication, mobile computing, computational
theory, cryptography, computer graphics and computer vision to artificial
intelligence.
The SENSYBLE workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners from
various disciplines of computer science who work in the area of enhancing
living environments with information and communication technologies. It is
organized by the SENSYBLE doctoral college, a joint research initiative by
the Computer Science and Mathematics department of the Goethe-University /
Frankfurt am Main and the department of Design, Computer Science, Media
(DCSM)
of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences / Wiesbaden.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
* Self-X properties (self-organization, self-configuration,
self-optimization, self-healing, self-protection, self-integration)
* Â Cryptography for authenticity, integrity and anonymity
* Â Safe and secure embedded systems
* Â Multi-modal data analytics
* Â Multisensor and evolutionary user interfaces and embodied interaction
* Â Visualization and usability aspects of self-organizing systems
* Â Internet of Things and Middleware for context-sensitive, adaptive
services
* Â Engineering of distributed smart systems
* Â Software engineering and business aspects of smart system development
* Â Applications, e.g. intelligent assistive systems for health care
Submissions that focus on a holistic view and vertical integration aspects
of smart systems for better living environments are particularly welcome.

**In conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2020 - The 26th Annual International
Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking, 21-25 Sep, London, United
Kingdom.**
### MOTIVATION AND RATIONALE
This research-oriented workshop is related to the broader topic of
technology issues for developing regions and it focuses on the adoption
of frugal innovations. Frugal innovations aim to minimize the cost and
complexity of novel solutions and are particularly oriented toward
low-income population groups in any part of the world. Ideally, these
solutions have to be scalable, durable and environmentally sustainable,
while using state-of-the-art technologies and know-how. The FRUGALTHINGS
workshop focuses on frugal innovations and the application of its goals
for the design, implementation, deployment, operation, and evaluation of
novel approaches and systems for smart objects in the emerging
cooperative environments. We are therefore seeking original, previously
unpublished papers empirically addressing key issues and challenges in
the frugal innovation arena.

Call for Papers
2nd Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Trends
in Engineering Low-Power Networks
(NewNets - co-located with WoWMoM)
June 15-18, 2020 - Cork, Ireland
https://newnets2020.github.io/
AIMS AND SCOPE
A founding pillar of the IoT concept is the availability of low-cost
low-power devices with wireless technologies providing sensing,
communication, and actuation. In the past decade, the research community
have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks.
Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g.,
ZigBee, Bluetooth, and ZWave.). An appealing alternative that have gained
momentum in the IoT landscape, is to equip the nodes with long-range low
power radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication
technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, and 802.15.4g) are considered as
candidate technologies for many low-power wide area network (LPWAN)
applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as
citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure
monitoring.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners
working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and
explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two
paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the
state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the
long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio
resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and
sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain
vertical markets.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- protocol design
- hardware platform design
- modeling and analysis of low-power short or/and long-range communication
- reliability, adaptability, and dependability of short and long-range
communication solutions
- new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates,
roaming)
- wake-up radios for short- or/and long-range technologies
- radio resource management
- applications domains (e.g., smart cities, smart health, smart buildings,
smart transportation)
- deployment experiences, case studies, and lessons learned
- evaluation and testbeds
- regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing
- business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical
markets.
