Important announcement regarding Coronavirus/COVID-19
IEEE has been monitoring the developing Coronavirus, COVID-19. The
safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority.
After studying and evaluating the announcements, guidance, and news
released by relevant national departments, the Organizing Committee of
IEEE SECON 2020, in concert with the Steering Committee and IEEE, has
decided that the conference will run as a virtual conference (i.e.,
using remote audio/video support) and not as an in-person event. Authors
will be required to present their paper remotely, according to IEEE
policies and procedures about publication(s). Attendees will still be
able to enjoy the presentations and interact with the authors remotely.
We will communicate the details of the specific audio/video tools we
will be using, as well as, the scheduling and format of paper
presentations and other conference events.
A registration will still be required for all authors and conference
attendees; we are currently re-defining this aspect. For this reason,
the registration deadline originally communicated to authors of accepted
papers is postponed to a later date. However, the deadline for the
camera-ready version remains the same.
We will soon post further updates about the reconfiguration of other
aspects of the conference.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Autonomous unmanned vehicle networks in civil applications are
considered with increasing interest. Such networks are envisioned to
consist of wireless sensors, robots and unmanned (aerial, ground,
underwater) vehicles and are being used in environmental monitoring,
border surveillance, network provisioning, delivery, construction,
emergency or disaster assistance. The challenges in the design of these
networks range from physical control of the vehicles, navigation, to
communication limitations. Due to diverse and interdisciplinary nature
of these challenges, algorithms and design principles proposed by
networking, robotics, control theory, computer vision and artificial
intelligence research communities will need to be utilized.
IAUV aims to bring together state-of-the-art contributions on the
design, specification and implementation of architectures, algorithms
and protocols for current and future applications of autonomous unmanned

In the last few years, Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs), have developed
rapidly and have been used for emergent applications that range from
inspection, surveillance, agriculture, cargo delivery, and communications.
The symbiosis between UAVs and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) started
quite naturally: UAVs perform remote sensing, act as data-mule that carry
the data collected by the WSN. Evolving WSN in Internet of Things (IoT)
devices, single or multiple Drones/UAVs can cooperatively provide services
that require efficient protocols where multiple objectives and constraints
should be accounted.
For this workshop, we search for papers that combine design of algorithms,
optimization, and test-bed to develop the theoretical foundations for the
UAV systems operating in symbiosis with WSN in IoT applications. The
numerous emergent applications nurtured by IoT may require an
interdisciplinary approach, involving techniques from algorithm foundations
and different areas, such as robotics, artificial intelligence,
mathematical modeling, machine learning. Possible topics are:
Autonomous WSN via Drones
Topology monitoring of WSN with Drones
Build Remote Sensing Networks via Drones
Communication architectures and protocols of Drones over IoT
Modeling and analysis of Drone systems over IoT
Precision Agriculture
Monitoring crops
Controlling bugs in Agriculture
Drones for environment monitoring
Autopilot and UAS autonomy
UAV mission planning, path planning, and scheduling
Parcel delivery using Drones
4G-5G networks and UAVs
Constraints and multiobjective optimization problems in UAVs
Ground Localization with Drones
Cooperative control of multiple UAVs
UAV secure communication techniques
Optimal UAV deployment strategies
Experimental results, simulators and test beds for drone networks
Single UAV Applications
Multi-UAV Applications
Human Rights and Drones
Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts that
demonstrate current research on distributed sensor systems related to
Wi-DroIT topics of interest. Please use the US letter size (8.5 X 11 in)
standard IEEE conference LaTeX format or Microsoft Word template available
on the link below:
http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html
All submissions should be written in English and submitted as a full paper.
Full papers should have a maximum of eight (8) printed pages including
figures and references. Full papers are expected to describe fully
developed ideas with a thorough evaluation.

The spread of the Internet of Things (IoT) in industrial environments
has fostered the development of new Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications
and, more in general, the advent of the Industry 4.0 revolution. The
current trend is towards the development of connected machines able to
interact with each other as well as to send data and access cloud and
Internet services. In particular, real-world industrial use cases are
usually characterized by stricter Quality of Service (QoS) requirements
compared with traditional IoT applications, especially in terms of
reduced latency, limited (or no) packet loss, wide and guaranteed
bandwidth. Moreover, the integration of consolidated Operational
Technology (OT) processes and relatively novel Information Technology
(IT) services poses novel challenging issues in terms of safety and
security (e.g., cyber-attacks could compromise the functionalities of
machines also representing a risk for human operators).
Smart components and services within industrial environments represent a
novel and promising solution not only to better support QoS
requirements, but also to more easily reconcile safety requirements of
OT with the openness and dynamicity typical of the IT. Moreover, the
emergence of edge devices equipped with relatively high computational,
memory, and storage capabilities facilitates the adoption of these
technologies. They are not only able to increase the efficiency of
existing industrial processes, e.g., by more promptly identifying faulty
machines to reduce the downtime and maximize OLE/OEE KPIs, but also to
provide new business opportunities, e.g., by widening the market
offering industrial equipment based on pay-per-use fees.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners
interested in or working on innovative solutions for smart services in
industrial environments. Experimental use cases based on real-world
testbeds are particularly welcome. Topics of interests include but are
not limited to:
* Real-world industrial shifting from Cloud to Fog computing
* Novel architectures for smart computing
* Middleware platforms for real-world industrial smart computing
* Integration between mobile systems and industrial smart infrastructures
* ML/AI and Edge computing in real-world shop floors
* Machine-to-machine communication, integration, and cooperation
* IoT systems for smart industrial applications
* Cyber-resiliency of industrial applications
* IT/OT integration and security
* Blockchain in industrial environments
* 5G for industrial business cases
* Innovative business models for real-world industrial smart computing

Building on the success of eight editions of the IEEE Workshop on the Internet of Things: Smart Objects and Services (IoT-SoS), this year we propose a workshop that looks ahead towards a vibrant future where a new level of awareness arises from the IoT devices thanks to context, cooperation, and federation, leading to a new revolution of Intelligent Things and Services ( InThingS ) that will re-shape technology and society.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is shaping the evolution of the future Internet by connecting people anytime and everywhere, as well as inanimate objects. By providing objects with embedded communication capabilities and a common addressing scheme, a highly distributed and ubiquitous network of seamlessly connected heterogeneous devices is formed, which can be fully integrated into the current Internet and mobile networks, thus allowing for the development of new intelligent services available anytime, anywhere, by anyone and anything. This year we want to shed light on the use of machine learning tools to support services and perform resource management in intelligent IoT scenarios.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory, application, and implementation of the Internet of Things concept with a specific focus on the use of machine learning and/or artificial intelligence techniques on technologies, protocols, algorithms, and services.
Many applications with high social and business impact fall under the IoT umbrella, including personal healthcare, smart grid, surveillance, home automation, intelligent transportation, while it is expected that new ones will emerge once the enabling technologies reach a stable state. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel ML/AI for IoT devices and services: applications, services, business processes, and enabling standards and technologies
- ML/AI techniques for devices with limited capabilities in terms of computation, memory, storage, connectivity or energy, e.g., compressed models and federated learning
- Distributed cloud technologies and algorithms; in-network computing
- System architectures and reference platforms enabling intelligent things and services
- Modeling and simulation of large-scale scenarios of IoT devices and services with embedded intelligence
- Testbeds, prototypes, and pilots for evaluation of intelligent things and services in a realistic environment
- Solutions to increases trust in IoT devices and services: security, privacy, governance, ownership, and accuracy of data and interactions
- Ethical issues with regard to the increasing intelligence of IoT devices and services and their large-scale adoption
- Flexible and dynamic distribution of intelligence in the thing-to-cloud continuum
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theory, application and implementation of the Internet of Things concept: Technologies, protocols, algorithms, and services.
