Pervasive and Mobile Computing
CALL FOR PAPERS for Special Issue on
Mobile and Social Sensing
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/pervasive-and-mobile-computing/call-for-p…
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
The ubiquity of smart phones together with the popularity of social
media heralds an era of mobile and social sensing. Mobile and social
sensing is becoming a paradigm for collecting observations of the
physical phenomena, either directly from human observers, or by means of
crowd-sourcing the data measurement tasks using sensors in the smart
phones or various other wearables (e.g., Google Glass, Apple Watch, and
Fitbit devices). It thus involves massive amount of sensory data
collection and/or dissemination where humans can act as sensor carriers
(e.g., carrying GPS sensors that share location data), sensor operators
(e.g., taking pictures and videos with smart phones), or as sensors
themselves (e.g., sharing their observations on social media). This
emerging field faces new challenges in data collection, dissemination,
fusion, and mining; cognitive modeling; computational social and
behavior science; information and coding theory; information processing
and knowledge discovery; data dissemination and forwarding, reliability,
privacy, and security; and cyber-physical-systems with
human-in/on-the-loop. This special issue invites technical papers on
both theoretical contributions and systems describing original ideas,
exciting results, and real-world experiences in the context of mobile
and social sensing.
This special issue will focus on (but not be limited to) the following
topics:
+ Mobile, ubiquitous, and pervasive sensing
+ Social sensing and social networks as sensor networks
+ Crowd/participatory and opportunistic sensing
+ Rural sensing
+ Urban sensing and smart city
+ Reliability, privacy, and security in mobile and social sensing
+ Sensing unstructured data in mobile/social domain
+ Modeling, analysis, fusion, and mining of social and mobile sensing data
+ Theory, algorithms, systems, and experiments pertaining to
mobile/social sensing
+ Ubiquitous, mobile, and pervasive information processing and knowledge
discovery
+ Mobile and Social Sensing Applications (i.e., Social Internet of
Things, Social Internet of Vehicles)
+ Data mining in Mobile and Social Sensing
Submission Guidelines:
Manuscripts must not have been previously published nor currently under
review by other journals or conferences. Papers previously published in
conference proceedings are eligible for submission if the submitted
manuscript is a substantial revision and extension of the conference
version. In this case, authors should indicate the previous
publication(s) in the cover letter and explain the enhancements made in
the journal version. The published conference article(s) are also
required to be submitted together with the journal version. The
submission website for this journal is located at
https://www.evise.com/profile/api/navigate/PMC. Please select
“VSI:Mobile&SocialSensing" when you reach the "Article Type" step in the
submission process. To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly

### 2nd IEEE Workshop on Cyber-Physical Networking (CPN’20) ###
###############################################################
Co-located with the
IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC 2020)
in Las Vegas, USA.
10. January 2020, Las Vegas, USA
https://ccnc2020.ieee-ccnc.org/workshop/2nd-ieee-workshop-cyber-physical-ne…
Low-latency networking and the increasing data rates of communication
systems have been major research objectives of the past decades. The
corresponding research efforts lead to the modern information society of
today. Recently, we see a rapid spread of cyber-physical applications
such as telemedicine, smart production, and infrastructure systems.
These systems build the backbone of Industry 4.0 environments, for
example, and operate with feedback control loops that are closed over
communication channels and, thus, impose real-time requirements for the
communication. Predictably low latency is a necessary property, however,
it challenges concurring requirements for high reliability, spectral,
and energy efficiency in particular when wireless links used. Classical
approaches for the independent design of communication and control have
reached their limits for quite some time.
The research objective in the area of cyber-physical networking is to
develop a theoretical and practical basis for the paradigmatic change
from throughput- to real-time-oriented communication in networked
control systems. In order to meet the requirements of cyber-physical
applications, a tight (horizontal and vertical) integration of all
communication, control, and system components is necessary in order to
fully exploit their individual elasticity and mutual adjustment
potential. We understand cyber-physical networking as including all
aspects of such a system, in particular network and communication,
control and the physical system itself. Ultimately, this workshop aims
to bring together leading researchers in the area of communication,
control and systems design - to share views on approaches to bring
together these domains for enabling cyber-physical networking.
Topics of Interest
Submissions are encouraged to cover multiple of the following top-level
topics.
Application Scenarios for Cyber-Physical Networks
Benchmarks, Quality Metrics, and Testbeds
Industry Case Studies and Experience Reports

Submissions:
https://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=26508&track=99350
The workshop allows two types of submissions: papers & demos.
Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently
under review in any other conference or journal, and has not been
previously published. All paper submissions should be written in English
with a maximum paper length of six (6) printed pages (10-point font)
following the IEEE format.
All demo submissions come in form of an extended abstract with a maximum
length of two (2) printed pages with the same format as paper
submissions. At the workshop, demos are required to bring a poster (A0)
that accompanies their presentation. We also encourage the paper authors
to optionally present a demo. This does not require a separate
submission of an extended abstract but is covered by the paper submission.
We encourage the submission of courageous research ideas and proposals
that explore the potential of cyber-physical networks, also off the
beaten track.

wireless communications
in conjunction with EWSN 2020, Lyon France, February 17, 2020

Lowering energy consumption is one of the most pursued goals of next
generation wireless communication to ensure long-term applications. In
recent years, wake-up radio has emerged, enabling pure asynchronous
wireless communication that eliminates energy waste due to idle
listening. These devices allow continuous channel monitoring while
consuming orders of magnitude less power than traditional
transceivers. On the one hand, many efforts are made to design wake-up
radio circuit with low power consumption and low sensitivity. On the
other hand, this technology changes network paradigm as dedicated
access and network protocols should be designed.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers both from
academia and industry to exchange and share their experiences and
research results related to wake-up radio emerging technology.
Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Wake-Up radio circuit and architecture design
- Coding, modulation and signal processing for Wake-Up radio
- Heterogeneous communication (or Multi-transceiver) and protocols
- MAC protocol leveraging Wake-up radio
- Cross-layer design for Wake-Up radio
- Communication and networking for wireless systems using Wake-Up
radio

The 21st Annual International Workshop on Mobile Computing Systems and
Applications (ACM HotMobile 2020)
https://hotmobile.org/2020/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
March 3-4, 2020
Austin, Texas, USA
Call for Papers
ACM HotMobile 2020, the Twenty-first International Workshop on Mobile
Computing Systems and Applications continues the series of highly
selective, interactive workshops focused on mobile applications, systems,
and environments, as well as their underlying state-of-the-art
technologies. HotMobile's small workshop format makes it ideal for
presenting and discussing new directions or controversial approaches.
We solicit submissions of papers that (1) focus primarily on systems and
applications and (2) propose new directions of research, advocate
non-traditional approaches to old (or new) ideas, or generate controversy
and discussion. We especially encourage papers that identify fundamental
open questions, advocate a new approach, offer a constructive critique of
the state-of-the-art, debunk existing assumptions, report unexpected early
results, report on promising but unproven ideas, or propose new evaluation
methods. Novel ideas need not be supported by full evaluations;
well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations suffice. The program
committee will explicitly favor early work and papers likely to stimulate
reflection and discussion over a “6-pages conference paper.”
We take a broad view of Mobile Systems research. This includes:
· Novel applications, environments, and devices supporting mobility.
· Operating system and distributed system support for mobile
computing.
· Wearable computing, internet of things, edge computing, sensing,
and context-awareness.
· HCI issues related to mobile computing.
· Security and privacy of mobile computing.
· Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting
mobility.
· Wireless technology, as it pertains to mobile systems and
applications.
The deadline for submissions is *October 22, 2019, 11:59pm EDT (Extended)*.
Acceptance notifications will be sent by December 15, 2018.
Presenting at HotMobile is a good way to get early feedback on research
ideas at least one year away from a full-fledged conference submission to
ACM MobiSys or other high-quality conferences. A full-length paper on the
same topic submitted to a conference in less than a year is unlikely to
include sufficient new material and mature ideas to warrant publication.
As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may not
be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Papers accompanied by
nondisclosure agreement forms are not acceptable and will be returned to
the author(s) unread. As customary with the scientific peer review process,
submissions will be handled as confidential material during the review.
Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format,
including all references, figures and tables. The submissions should not be
anonymous. The submissions must meet the following formatting requirements:
· Font size no smaller than 10pt.
· Font size of the bibliography no smaller than 9pt.
· Double column format with each column having dimensions 9.25 inches x
3.33 inches, a space of 0.33 inches between the two columns, and with no
more than 55 lines of text per column.
· Fit properly on US letter-sized paper (8.5 inches x 11 inches).
We recommend the use of the "sigconf" ACM proceedings template, available
at: http://www.acm.org/, with the font size of the main body amended to
10pt. An example Tex document can be found here. For more submission
guidelines, please visit the conference website. Please note that it is the
responsibility of the authors to ensure that the submissions are meeting
all formatting requirements.
The submission link: https://hotmobile20.hotcrp.com/
The papers accepted to HotMobile 2020 will be publicly available from the
workshop's website for a limited time window, as per ACM's Digital
Library's Policy.
If you have any questions, please contact the PC chair at
qin.lv(a)colorado.edu.

Submission Deadline: 30 November 2019
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Communication
and Fog/Edge Computing Towards Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICVs).
With rapid economic development, the number of vehicles on the road has
grown dramatically, which introduces an array of traffic-related issues,
such as traffic congestion and driving safety. Intelligent connected
vehicles (ICVs) can provide a safer and greener transportation system,
which has been envisioned as an effective measure to resolve traffic
problems. ICVs are expected to run many emerging smart applications
(e.g., autonomous driving, safety early warning, natural language
processing, etc.) to assist both the drivers and passengers in vehicular
environments. These kinds of applications typically require significant
computing power to perform computation-intensive and latency-sensitive
tasks generated by the vehicle sensors for low-latency response.
However, the limited computation capacity of the on-board computer makes
it difficult to satisfy the computation requirements of
quality-of-experience (QoE)-demanding applications. To tackle this
challenge, fog/edge computing are proposed as innovative computing
paradigms to extend computing capacity to the network edge in order to
meet the requirements. Fog/edge computing is expected to not only
maximize the computation capability and alleviate the greenhouse effect,
but also achieve sustainable operation by pushing rich computing and
storage resources to the edge of the network.
The limited computation capacity of the on-board computer brings about
an unprecedented challenge for the future development of ICVs. Fog/edge
computing provides cloud computing capacity in close proximity to
vehicles. Vehicles can migrate the computing to the edge of the network
via vehicle to everything (V2X) communication. Processing can be
completed at road-side unit (RSU) at the side of the network. The
advancement of communication technologies and edge computing, such as
Fifth-generation (5G), Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network
Function Virtualization (NFV), mobile edge/fog computing and so on,
makes it possible to enhance computational capabilities, ensure
near-real-time responses and realize communication requirements with
ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability. The Special Section in
IEEE Access aims to provide the latest research findings and solutions,
in terms of communication and edge computing for ICVs.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* New architecture and framework establishment based on fog/edge
computing for ICVs
* Advanced vehicular networks technologies, such as 5G vehicular
networks, LTE-V and so on
* Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications for ICVs
* Resource allocation and management based on fog/edge computing for
ICVs
* Machine learning, deep learning for intelligent management and control
* Joint analysis of communication and computing to improve
performance in vehicular networks
* Cross-layer optimization for fog/edge computing
* Mobility modeling and management for ICVs
* SDN and NFV technologies for vehicular networks
* Security and privacy challenges
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.
